I've had that line engraved on a few pieces of silver and have dropped them in the casket of loved ones that I have lost over the years. it holds special meaning to me.
Song writing at its best. Dave has always been underrated as a song writer. I always remember that line from the song, especially when life gets tough.
This song was written the day he found out Cliff Burton of Metallica died! The version where he it explains is in the official video which is a clip from the movie "Decline of Western Civilization the Metal Years". I love this song and this album!
Wow! Thanks for the insight, I had no idea it was his reaction to Cliff's death. Definitely gives it a new meaning to me now. I remember very clearly hearing about the bus crash. I had just seen them opening for Ozzy a few months prior to it and was devastated by the news, wondering what would happen next with them. But then I heard Blackened for the first time and I realized they were marching on and were going to be ok.
@@arnorreginn7604 why can’t the anger and heartbreak be about Cliff though? They were friends and bandmates for years - which means their relationship was probably similar to brothers. Wouldn’t you be angry and heartbroken if you just found out that your brother died?
To clarify he heard about cliff, called his ex gf to come and support him in his "time of need", she never showed up and so he shot up and wrote this song so its about a whole package of BS
Thanks for bringing the metal back around! There's so much more to explore. I truly believe that metal is the most vast of all genres, as it can be adapted to and blended with most types of music.
God I love this album. Still my top favorite from Megadeth. I remember when this came out, was a freshman in high school, and the syndicated metal radio show Metal Shop did an entire episode dedicated to its release with interviews with Dave Mustaine and Dave Elfson. Such great memories. Thanks guys for bringing back some of my youth. And yes, as stated by others, Liar, Hook in Mouth, 502 and Set the World on Fire are great tracks from this album.
@@ThomasTallant I prefer the sound of the original. For one, it is the album/sound I remember best and which elicits the memories. Also, I didn't really like how they changed some of the arrangements in the remastered version. I know, Dave even said in the interview on that Metal Shop episode, that he wanted the sound of a car radio come on and KISS Detroit Rock City on the radio, but the mixing for it wasn't available, or didn't have the time (can't remember what the excuse was exactly). However, I prefer how the original sounds without that effect. I just always like the "garage" band feel to the poor recording quality of the original.
The only track I don't care for is Anarchy in the UK, every other track is gold. Frankly I think the Sex Pistols are nothing but hacks that wrote shit songs, and couldn't play their instruments worth a damn.
Song from the album So far, So Good, So What. from 1988, actually the third album in Megadeth's discography. Lex, you have to keep in mind that bands might change their sound from album to album or within years, so it is difficult to say that they sound a certain way, because they might surprise you. Megadeth, has had a lot of changes in their sound throughout the years, but you can still identify their main essence in their sound, despite the changes.
One of my favorite songs by megadeth. And favorite albums. Cant go wrong with any of songs on this album. You should try "liar" next from megadeth. Definitely, would do lyrics on it tho!
Great reaction! Into the lungs of hell/ Set the World Afire, Mary Jane, Liar and Hook in Mouth from this album are all classic Megadeth!🤘 Thanks for the Megadeth reactions!🤘
C'mon y'all, this album is, in my mind, contrary to the popular opinion, the overlooked Megadeth's magnum opus. The best line-up (Jeff Young & Chuck Behler), one of the best productions in metal history, Dave's drug fuelled madness and anxiety resulted in this absolute masterpiece. Also Brad & Lex, maybe you should try "MARY JANE" from the same album. It is, unbelievably, even better than this one, beautiful, crazy and haunting and will stay with you forever. Thank you for this reaction guys.
I agree, it's my favourite Megadeth album, maybe Rust for Peace and Peace Sells could be 'objectively' regarded as better albums but this is an amazing album. Set The World A Fire, Hook In Mouth and 502 are other great tracks from this album worth reacting to.
Sorry man, this album is great but Young and Behler do not compare to Gar and Poland, or Marty and Menza, or even Chris Adler and Kiko, for that matter.
I'd have to go with the Menza/Friedman line up for best line up. However this album I once heard referred to as "The Megadeth fan's album." The rest are more for the masses but this one's for hardcore Megadeth fans. Mary Jane, this song, Into The Lungs of Hell, and Hook in Mouth are all unique and don't sound like anything from any other albums.
"Time has a way of taking time. Loneliness is not only felt by fools!" That line is one of a small handful I found in songs that really helped me understand things in life growing up.
This is, for some reason I dunno why, my favorite Megadeth song from my favorite Megadeth album. Rust In Peace is technically better but there's just something about this record...
So much respect for this song... considering the circumstances, it was written under. RIP Cliff. Dave's tenacity to keep up with Metalica always impressed me so much. Both bands had amazing songs, and, in my opinion, they are both in a class all of their own. SO many metal bands are where they are because of them. My band covered Wake Up dead, Peace Sells, Creeping Death and Master of Puppets back in the day. I have nothing but respect for these guys... even if I don't listen to them now. B&L... keep it up guys! Thank you!

This song is amazing, in fact the whole "So Far, So Good, So What" album is highly underrated in my opinion. You should definitely checkout more songs from this one! Mary Jane, Hook in Mouth (about the PMRC music censorship that ultimately lead to the Warning Labels on music), Set the World Afire (the song Mustaine wrote on the way back to California after being fired by Metallica, originally it was titled Megadeth before he decided to name the band that), and Into the Lungs of Hell, which is an awesome instrumental. 🤘🏻
Best Megadeth album. My fav song. The song was inspired by the death of Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. He and Megadeth lead singer Dave Mustaine were close. I remember seeing Megadeth live many years ago - the whole show was energy but this song was on another level - they came back for an encore to play this song and then one other finish the show. Love this song. So powerful. So haunting.
This song was written about Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed in a tour bus crash in 1986. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth had played w/ Cliff Burton in Metallica from early-to-mid 1983, before he was fired and sent back to Los Angeles on a Greyhound bus - his 'darkest hour' ... Mustaine hated the members of Metallica and vowed revenge w/ a new band, which became Megadeth. However, when news came to Mustaine in the fall of 1986 of Burton's death while Megadeth were on tour, he was devastated... he immediately wrote the lyrics and music as an 'eulogy' to Cliff Burton... Later, Megadeth did deliver some metal 'breakup songs' for sure - 'Trust' ... 'Almost honest' ... '1000 times goodbye'... 'The hardest part of letting go... Sealed with a kiss'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Great song choice! Old Megadeth which I like the best. I’ve listened to this song hundreds of times. It is simply awesome. It is one of their best songs of all time (I think). Dave wrote this song shortly after hearing of Cliff Burton’s death (Metallica bass player). It was not a break up song, although it very much sounds like it. Dave also had said he went right out to buy heroin after hearing of this friend’s death second-hand which was very hurtful. Lots of dark emotions put into this song. Keep rocking Lexi \m/
For those that are saying the song is written when cliff Burton died, you're half correct. Dave satdown and played and wrote the music the night he learned. The lyrics of the song came later and is about an ex gf of his and their break up.
I'm pretty sure he says "your grace did not shine on me" and hes talking about being the guys from Metallica not being there for him when he was at his lowest point, after Cliff Burtons death
Brilliant song choice. That album was a huge transition for Megadeth. The drummer Chuck Behler was a friend of mine from back in Detroit, he was always cool to people that enjoyed his music and the younger people at his shows.
OMGGG!! My most favorite Megadeth song!! This song turned me on to this band. So happy to see you reacting to this!! The song was also part of the soundtrack for the coolest metal movie ever! Decline of Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years from 1988. A must see! Excellent song choice.
This is such a great video of both of you. She is so beautiful and you need to hang on. I love how she's getting into this because Megadeth is one of the best bands in the world. She is such a beautiful soul don't look away from her don't lose something that's so beautiful she is an amazing woman. Do never block her out or think that she is below you. I love Megadeth and it's cool to see such a beautiful woman getting into this. Don't lose her my friend. Never lose this woman. She is so perfect in every way. Don't shut that down a woman who likes metal is someone that you take care of. She is the most beautiful person I've seen on UA-cam. Don't ever lose her I love you both for listening to good metal!
Dave Mustaine wrote most of this song in just one sitting after learning that bass player Cliff Burton had died in a tour bus accident while traveling with Metallica on their Master of Puppets tour. While he was a member of Metallica from 1981-1983, Mustaine became good friends with Burton; he fondly recalls driving to practice, listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and smoking pot with him. Mustaine says that when he heard the news, he headed straight to downtown Los Angeles, where he bought heroin. He began crying, and through the tears came up with "In My Darkest Hour." Burton's death was the inspiration for this song, but the lyrics are not directly about him, as the song is about remaining true to your friends and being there in their time of need. Mustaine didn't get a lot of support from his family, and also felt betrayed by Metallica when they kicked him out of the band. Reflecting on the song, Mustaine explained that he treasures his relationship with his fans, who have shown him the kind of support he didn't get as a kid. The song doesn't have a happy ending, but many Megadeth fans found it very helpful in getting them through difficult times, since it can be comforting to know that others have been through it.
To clarify Brad, this song you listened to is from their 1988 album “So Far.. So Good.. So What?”. The album with the ‘alien’ artwork is called “Rust In Peace”, and was produced in 1990. Yes, “Hangar 18” was from “Rust In Peace”.
This is the first metal album I purchased. I bought it on cassette. I had heard a friend talk about them and wanted to get into heavier stuff. It was the first “Parental Advisory” album I owned
Great song. This comes from my third favorite Megadeth album. #1 being Rust in Peace and #2 being Peace Sells. Another song in this Megadeth style is TRUST.
This Megadeth Tour was the first concert I ever went to. I was fifteen back in the day at the Palmetto Civic Center in Florida. Now I’m 48 years old, how 34 years have passed. The line up was: Sanctuary, Warlock, and Megadeth…all epic! Love y’all.
Saw the same show. Dude, I was in the crowd with you somewhere. Great show. The way Dave Mustaine started the show was epic. Smoke, walked out into the spotlight stood like a god for a second and then just unleashed the riff for Set the world afire. Epic. Or was it into the lungs of hell?
This was an earlier Megadeth album. Killing is my Business '85, Peace Sells '86, So Far So Good '88 and Rust in Peace '90. I got to see them in '90 for the Rust in peace tour with another band you all should check out Testament. Souls of black would be a good starting point for Testament.
The Killing is my Business the final kill remaster is great! I always loved that album and it deserved a proper remaster. I always thought the rest of the remasters they did took weren’t as good as the originals.🤘
want to melt your ears and twist your mind? megadeth- trust, almost honest, 1000 times goodbye, 99 ways to die, victory, sweating bullets, high speed dirt, use the man, headcrusher, tornado of souls.......should keep you busy for awhile lol all masterpieces from them
The lyrics are about his toxic relationship with his ex named Diana. He wrote multiple songs about her Tornado of souls, Trust, This was my life, Wake up Dead, Last Rites/Loved to deth
Years ago I saw an interview where Dave said he went into the studio angry to write songs because his friend Cliff Burton of Metallica died and his girlfriend split. This was the result.
Alot of rap music fans doing reaction videos nowadays... don't think many metal fans will be doing reactions too rap/r n b songs... just shows how great metal is !! \m/
Cliff and Diana were the inspiration for this awesome song. One of the greatest ever. Diana was posibly the inspiration for wake up dead, Addicted to Chaos, reckoning day, sealed with a Kiss, tornado, almost honest and many others I gess. In fack he said her name in wake up dead.
Budgie's vocalist/bassist Burke Shelley passed away a few days ago. Dave Mustaine was a big fan of the band, and covered a Budgie song just a few years ago.
This is another song that's about one of Dave Mustaine's former girlfriends, Diana who was also the focus of other Megadeth songs "Tornado of Souls" from "Rust In Peace", "Wake Up Dead" from "Peace Sells But Who's Buying?" and "Trust" from "Cryptic Writings". Dave Mustaine wrote this song in one fell swoop after he found out about the tragic death of Metallica bassist Cliff Burton who was killed in a tragic bus accident on September 27th of 1986.
Does Lex really get into megadeth? She was smiling, megadeth plays exciting ,powerful music, that often makes me smile. They are amazing at what they do
If you want a metal breakup song, or maybe even post-breakup song, you really need to check "LOSING MORE THAN YOU'VE EVER HAD" by Accept. It's got great lyrics that'll make Brad think and awesome guitar work that'll make Lex Bounce :D You'll love it
A lot of the appeal for metal is catharsis, a release of pent-up anger and tension through music, so it makes sense that the genre can translate well onto breakup songs. Metal bands just tend to approach the subject in more abstract, metaphorical ways than other genres, and with more rage than sadness. Slipknot’s entire most recent album was recorded in the wake of Corey Taylor’s divorce, and a lot of the songs are about that.
Becouse of this song is written when Dave Mustaine learned Cliff Burton's death, so the song also is a reflection for Dave on his early Metallica days.
This IS one of Megadeth's Best songs they ever put together in my book! It's breakup music and not political or anything. And the music is great guitar and drums! A masterpiece I've worn out many times over the years on cassettes!
This is INDEED a breakup song! In fact, this song, along with ‘Tornado Of Souls’, got me through the worst of my divorce. This song’s first movement seems to paint a picture of a man immobilised by depression and misery, awaiting death. In the second movement, I can feel our protagonist tearing through centuries of petrification , gouging his way to the surface, until he finally breathes fresh air again. This song was particularly helpful in aiding my recovery from my failed marriage. We were one of those rare couples that were so mad for each other they can’t not tear each other to shreds with overprotectiveness and jealousy. It didn’t help that we were both incredibly young, yet we’d both been through some nightmares already in our lives…leading us to believe we were ready to take on much greater challenges than those for which we were ACTUALLY prepared.

This song was written when Metallica's bassist Cliff Burton died, he was a friend of Dave's and Dave wrote it in one sitting when he found out.
He wrote it when Cliff died in one sitting (like you said) but was writing about his own toxic relationship with a girl.

To clarify Brad, this song you listened to is from their 1988 album “So Far.. So Good.. So What?”.
The album with the ‘alien’ artwork is called “Rust In Peace”, and was produced in 1990.
Yes, “Hangar 18” was from “Rust In Peace”.
My favorite megadeth album “502” is a blast!! 💥
This is the first metal album I purchased. I bought it on cassette. I had heard a friend talk about them and wanted to get into heavier stuff. It was the first “Parental Advisory” album I owned
Good song. Seen them in concert.
Megadeth is my favorite metal band,So Far So Good So What is my favorite album, and this is one of my favorite songs.
Check out "Lucretia" from Rust in Peace.
One of the top songs from Megadeth, for sure. This was the first song I ever heard of them and the rest is history... :-)
Motley Crue - Hooligans Holiday
Parkway Drive - Wishing Wells
Kings X - Over My Head
Awesome reaction video. ❤️
Y'all didn't say much but your body language spoke volumes.
Absolutely worth a like and subscribe.
Good job!!!
Love that you guys are doing these songs!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻 Megadeaths catalog is vast! Some real bangers if you look!!
WOW you guys went deep man. Respect. Megadeth is one of the best bands in History
Take me back anytime!
Such a great show !!
Thanks guy's!!!!!
The line up was:
Sanctuary, Warlock, and Megadeth…all epic!
Good lineup. 51 and still my favourite band
You want a real banger Lex? Play Megagdeth Tornado of Souls. You will love the guitar solo.
They covered Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars and Hangar 18 a few months back.
This is my favorite song of my favorite Megadeth album.
\m/ !
Dave Mustaine wrote this in one sitting after he found out about the death of Cliff Burton, but it was about his relationship with a girl named Diana
Megadeth always sounds like a symphony of destruction. :)
Try "Killing is My Business and Business is Good"album. It was the first that I heard by Megadeth. Then came Peace Sells but Who's Buying. Then this one.
The Killing is my Business the final kill remaster is great! I always loved that album and it deserved a proper remaster. I always thought the rest of the remasters they did took weren’t as good as the originals.🤘
Such a brilliant song. Definitely a highlight from that particular record
One of my all time favorite Megabreath songs.
80s/early 90s Megadeth is the best stuff.
daves got some blues in his soul
want to melt your ears and twist your mind? megadeth- trust, almost honest, 1000 times goodbye, 99 ways to die, victory, sweating bullets, high speed dirt, use the man, headcrusher, tornado of souls.......should keep you busy for awhile lol all masterpieces from them
Dave wrote this song after he heard about Cliff Burton dying.
Yes but the lyrics are not related to cliff
I would hope not lol, atleast you have your facts straight, unlike some of these idiots on here. Thank you!👍
This song is one more master piece Thanks dave .
Hook in Mouth, from this albun one of top song from Megadeth
The lyrics are about his toxic relationship with his ex named Diana. He wrote multiple songs about her Tornado of souls, Trust, This was my life, Wake up Dead, Last Rites/Loved to deth
Years ago I saw an interview where Dave said he went into the studio angry to write songs because his friend Cliff Burton of Metallica died and his girlfriend split. This was the result.
The heaviest songs come out of anger. This song is a perfect example
"A new program for your robotic brain" Lex nailed it...lol
Alot of rap music fans doing reaction videos nowadays... don't think many metal fans will be doing reactions too rap/r n b songs... just shows how great metal is !! \m/
Megadeth - Ashes In Your Mouth
is a good one song you should react
One of my all-time favourite metal songs.
We are kindred! Several Megadeth songs make that list.
Hey Brad, contrary to popular belief, metal heads have hearts too. We just felt it faster and harder! LOL!
Does Lex really get into megadeth? She was smiling, megadeth plays exciting ,powerful music, that often makes me smile. They are amazing at what they do
This song is dedicated to cliff Burton and this is my favourite megadeth song ever
One of the best metal tunes ever.
If you want a metal breakup song, or maybe even post-breakup song, you really need to check "LOSING MORE THAN YOU'VE EVER HAD" by Accept. It's got great lyrics that'll make Brad think and awesome guitar work that'll make Lex Bounce :D You'll love it
That's off of So Far...So Good...So What, it's an EP and their third release.
It's no accident that this riff sounds like For Whom the Bell Tolls.
Love it... classic
Becouse of this song is written when Dave Mustaine learned Cliff Burton's death, so the song also is a reflection for Dave on his early Metallica days.
Lex, you really react beautifully to Thrash Metal. There's so much you're gonna love hearing. :)
This is the best Megadeth song i think.
This IS one of Megadeth's Best songs they ever put together in my book! It's breakup music and not political or anything. And the music is great guitar and drums! A masterpiece I've worn out many times over the years on cassettes!
They dedicated this song to cliff Burton when he died in a bus accident on tour in Europe with Metallica
