Are those orange wedges plastic felling wedges? I was wondering how they’d work for splitting since there a whole lot cheaper than slitting wedges

Yes they work, just fine. Ypu could even use homemade hardwood wedges to split stuff like this because it doesn't actually take that much of a beating or force to split.

    How about dog wood ?
I have a 64 inch clean and clear dogwood stave,do I chase a ring or do I treat it like my 62 # @28 inch hickory self bow ?
I you are not familiar with dogwood who could I ask or what reference book or material could I find this information. 🤔

If you type in dog wood bow on google there a few threads that come up. You don’t have chase any rings on it like other white woods as long as you don’t damage the back removing the bark. I believe it has a similar specific gravity to hickory. The one thing I remember reading is to watch out for pin knots on the back.

Which side of the bow does the bark side of the stave become? The belly or the back?

The bark side is the back of the bow.

@@NobleSavageOutdoors Thank you! Is this true for most types of wood?

@@Seabass-a It depends how you are making the bow. For this case, with hickory the sap wood does well in tension and the heart wood does well in compression. So the best thing to do would have half heart wood and half sap wood with the heart wood as the belly and sap wood as the back. With other types of wood like Osage orange, you will do what's call "chasing a grain." Removing all the sap wood and exposing 1 continuous grain line of heart wood to be used as the back of the bow. This method works for many types of wood.

Could you tell us the overall dimensions please

These staves were about 7 feet long and 3-4 inches wide at the bark. If you are looking for bow dimensions keep watching the series because I go through that more in later videos.
