  • This is a sort of follow-up to a video I made several years ago. I actually recorded it in August of last year (2020-08-18), and then forgot to upload it for over four months. Original video: • NDS Emulation - Full s...
It's actually kinda embarrassing, because I actually forgot to assemble a good party from my PC, and got crushed by the bug type elite four member (the first one) as a result.
I got asked a lot how I did the touch screen split thing on my other video, so I'll try to do a video on how to set it up sometime, but be warned that I am doing this under a Linux distro and that it's extremely hacky how I set it up.
The computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet with the multitouch screen option (the X201 Tablet was available with either a stylus-only or a stylus-and-touch screen; mine has both the stylus and touch options). I am doing it in FVWM (a window manager for Linux which allows for automation of tons of non-trivial tasks, including removing the window borders and resizing the window to fill both screens, which are both configured to run at 1280x800 at 60hz).
This laptop (i7-640LM, 2.13GHz) is just barely fast enough to emulate the DS at full speed in desmume at this resolution; it's not a very powerful machine but it is the top-spec X201 tablet version they produced. The regular X201's mostly ran moderately faster than mine, but consume more power.
If I were to recommend a machine for doing this, I'd recommend a higher-spec Thinkpad X220 or X230 tablet instead (which didn't use the ultra-low-voltage CPU's like the X201 tablet did), or maybe certain Fujitsu Lifebook tablets.

Why are you still using it, then? (BTW, this might be possible in win10, but you'd need to find a way to hide the title and menu bars on a window stretched to cover both screens).

@@wyatt8740 I don't know how to work without Windows, many programs I use don't work on Linux

I can try, but it's honestly a convoluted setup that is highly dependent on my window manager and OS.

I keep searching and it keeps seeming like it may be difficult to do on windows

Yes - I think to do it in Windows you might need to do some programming and probably use an open source emulator. Maybe you can make retroarch span both screens in fullscreen mode, or something?

Had you attempted this on a smart phone?
