The Sudanese used these types early in their adoption of the weapon but they may have been phased out for the counter recurve form shown there. Regardless, the earlier forms are just as valid, but they are not valid for the test. Otherwise, the 2 weapons cannot be tested fairly based on the challenge level of needing to put in the counter recurve.

Honestly if you look at the haladie historically. It has many blade shapes. Not just that kinda shamshir shaped blade. So I think that this is a bunch of malarkey. Not tryimg to be rude. But how many of you are real smiths? I for one am. And I think its very ignorant of you all to cast shame when you couldn't even come close to this kids quality of work.

I just find it difficult to to turn down the craftsmanship that went into such a blade. I think the challenge was too specific. On a weapon such as the zwihander (I'm absolutely sure I butchered the spelling)another "recurve" style blade. although the blades "matched the parameters. The waves of the flamberge were drastically different styles, but they still compared the blades acordingly. Because the perameters were less strict. What he brought was a haladie, a historically acurate one at that. Youre right, but i'd still favor the kid. The piece had a better finish, and over all look.

You have GOT to pay attention to all the details, because even the tiniest mistake in the details can cost you the win in this "Weapon-Making Olympics", as Forged In Fire Champion David Goldberg calls it. In fact, that was how the first contestant in David's first episode (Season 1, Episode 4) was eliminated. Arnon finished his Round 1 blade about ten minutes early, and didn't do anything else, when he should have gone over the finer details and made sure his blade met the correct parameters. The blades had to be between 11-15 inches (not counting the tang), and his ended up being 16 1/4 inches, so that meant an instant DQ.

don't know, the blade wasn't tested, im quite sure the handle construction would have been a big issue too, check the difference in both handles, just the shape, with the first one, its not possible to damage ur hand using the blade, with the second one, it would hurt the hand for sure...

True that... Most haladie has a thick handle and its made actually to fit you hands less so that you have a hard grip on it... Just like you have a fat grip barbell in a GYM.👍

His handle was too thin and didn't flare toward the ends either, to stop the user's hand while stabbing. The way his handle was designed the hand would've struck the shoulders of the blades instead, potentially causing an injury.
i'm going to be honest i thought it was his handle was too slim and it would be dangerous to the user to stab with it. turns out it didn't recurve enough.
agreed, a good impact on that punching bag could have had his hand slip up onto the sharp knife and cut him -- or even on the keeeeel test, if he happened to get fake blood on his hand; makes it more slippery.

One of the first final round 'missed parameter' DQ's. Feel bad for the kid, he did a solid job, but missed the second curve. On the other hand it looks like he visually keyed on the exemplar Dave Baker made, that doesn't seem to have the second curve in the blades either. (Single curve center ridge blades).

It's originated from my motherland the state of Gujarar in western india. Actual Local name is "Haladiyo" हलदियो (" હળદિયો ") ! It's been used by Our Rajput warriors as supportive sidearm mostly used with smaller Dhaals ( round shape small shields), with another hand battle Tulwars, to clear path in intense CQB situations

idk how that happens - they are asked to build a weapon with clear instructions and they dont follow it. they must get really busy thinking about delivering it in time if they can't follow requirements. Proves how much they are worried they wont live up to the test

Before they sent back to thier home the instructions is very crystal clear that they make a curve for this weapon.

both blades have the curve at the tip and would do well in combat, i'm just worried about the handle when stabbing.
