    I love the short history of the tree at the beginning!!! I think a short recap, once a year will be great especially for your more developed trees.

    Consider grafting in some bare areas. A thin shoot can be guided from a nearby branch, slight cut in the receiving spot, remove the bark from the donor, etc. I tried this with a 30+ year old ficus of mine, very happy with the results!

    I'll be honest. I like the back the best. I find the separation of the added trunk from the branch/trunk from the original stump a bit awkward in the front position. In the back, though, I think it looks amazing (edit: for a timestamp, 23:26 looks really nice I think). Of course, trees look very different in real life than in video, so that may just be a trick of the camera. But, it's looking really nice. Like you said, another few years for it to fill in and it will be really incredible, I think.

    All those roots from the fusion look spectacular, very jungle like feeling to it. Imagine a root over temple version of a tree like this! These roots look so cool, it’s even worth a shot recreating a fusion like this!

    Nigel, as far as the canopy is concerned, I like every side as the front but the current one. As you say the roots are great on the current one though. I'd use another front until the canopy improves. Great job getting out of that disaster! Thanks for your videos!

    A very strong grower. By next summer it will get even bigger than it was now before pruning. It's interesting how the left sidebranch growing from the original trunk is starting to compete with the current main trunk fused on top. It's like both wish to be the top. 😋

    I was thinking that maybe you could apply a staggered type canopy or two different heights. Not every tropical tree has an umbrella shape some are kinda rectangular with big staggered canopies. I got the idea from a huge mango tree I saw today and it looked kinda like this tree, without the aerial roots.

    i think you would benefit from replanting this on a deep and wide barrel, but let the roots grow out from the sides. this would boost growth of both nebari and branches faster. that is how we do it here in the tropics, ficus grows really fast when planted and left to grow wild

  • @SamisBonsai

    It amazing how well this tree has come after the top died and the new top has been started fused.

  • @MrJcalvino
    @MrJcalvino 2 роки тому

    In this case I like the tall version more and the final product is amazing . With that small leaves looks really good and believable and in consonance with the trunk diameter. In the other side with an umbrella canopy the trunk stands more but it’s too thick in proportion to the canopy. Could looked “grotesque “

    24:00 ,, with your head beside the fusion ficus , , there are some simularitys Nigel.
    you hear the saying "like dog like owner" ? guess it goes for tress too =))
    was thinking, it before the end of video, would be cool to see eyes mouth and nose carved into the trunk, it looks a bit like a head already.

    I think your idea to plant the big cutting on top was ingenious! Although it is something that happens in nature (strangler figs), I haven’t seen it done with bonsai before. It’s great to see how well it worked, nice job Nigel!

  • @700NitroXpress
    @700NitroXpress 2 роки тому

    The left major trunk branch sticks out. I wish it was bent out from the center instead of towards the center. Bending one that thick would be difficult.

    I'm interested in how you got such a big stalk to take root on that Ficus, My airlayer form last year failed, on the tree, and never showed root formation! I'd like to do a severed cut, and root that cutting, but unsure if I will suseed with the top I want to grow as a new tree!

    Hi, what grow light is giving you better grow and how many hours? do you keep it in a humid glass box in summer? how do you fertilize it? how is your watering in winter? misting daily? I'm experimenting this year with T5 on my ficus tiger bark. impressive tree particularly for Canada! Congratulations. good video thank you.
