Saw Beefheart open for Jethro Tull in 1971 . Was blown away. He came out and Booglarised us ! The Drummer had women's underwear on his head !! Been a Fan since but at the time had only heard the name. if you get tired with pretentious rock pick up a Captain Beefheart record to cleanse the soul.

I met Don in NYC on tour with FZ. We had several hangs subsequently culminating in LA at a rehearsal For FZ where we 3 smoked cigarettes together and had a great time.

I cleansed myself of C by listening to Looking At You. It is in E.

Don had "issues"... he was perhaps insane... but so was Van Gogh.
His music stands as a testament to his genius, as does his art, which was displayed at the best galleries in the world and go for a high price.

It's Rockette Morton! I got his autograph when I saw the Magic band play in Manchester about 15 years ago when I was a student there. got him to sign my TroutMask inlay sleeve, he fucked it up though, so had to sign it twice. Cool story.

I was at that ( free trade hall or bridgewater, cant rembr) do you remember when the lights dimmed and the band got really quiet - special moment

I think it must have been at Free trade hall. I don't remember much really, just that I was literally the only young guy at the gig and that I got my album signed and a dvd I bought there signed as well. Did you go to the Arthur Lee Love concert around that time? that was good, not long before he died too, that one. Remember seeing the band members from Happy Mondays there and they were all completely wasted. saw Bez a couple of times in Manchester out and about in Manchester. Great days!

Yeah that sounds right, The Free Trade closed not long after. Gary Lucas, Rockette and Denny Walley (my fave slide guy!) It was the first time I heard Drumbo doing vocals like the captain.
Missed the Love gig - damn!
Bez is often in the bars of Chorlton, South Mc
      Take care mate

PS - Check Out the Dust Junkies if you got time - one of the best Manc bands ever. Very underrated.

Did you go to that Transformer event at the Victoria warehouse this time last month? I travelled all the way from London, booked expensive hotel etc, mainly just so I could see This is not This Heat play again from the front of the crowd and get my vinyls signed by Charles Hayward afterwards, but thanks to my best friend who I went there with, he fucked it up for me with his selfishness, having casual sex with a friend of his in the bed next to me, meaning I didn't get to sleep till about 11 in morning, ended up missing the 1st 5 hours of the event and This Heat, who were playing 1st on the main stage. Typical. I am so angry about this, basically wasted £300 and had a shit weekend because of it. The whole weekend was a joke thanks to him. I was so looking forward to this.

Rockette Morton - bass, from the early years until 1972 I think, ?, ?, Gary Lucas - guitar 1978-82

Gary Marker (bass player on Moonlight on Vermont, engineered Safe as Milk) is the guy in the chef's hat, Morris Tepper (guitar 1976 - 82) is the guy on the roof.

Does anyone know where exactly in "Cardboard Cut Out Sundown" the synchronisation occurs? Is it at 1:50? It also sounds like they sync up around 1:05 to me but that's not near the end of the song...
