  • PING G430 HYBRID Not one to MISS out TESTING as this new model from Ping comes with some realy interesting and important changes and improvements. The inclusion of the Carbon Fly Wrap around crown that improves greatly its feel and sound, not to mention the changes to its weight distribution to further increase its forgiveness and ability to launch the golf ball high.

    They look great and perform really well in your hands. Love a hybrid. Play the Tsi2 in a 24 and 21 and I don’t find that they go too much to the left for me. I can fade and draw them and hit them hard and medium and great off the tee, fairway and semi rough.
    Can’t imagine my set up without them.

    Looking to replace my Ping 5 Crossover, G Series 4 @ 3 Hybrids, G series 3 Wood and G Series SF Tec Driver with G430’s. Hybrids will be 5 & 4, will have to see if I go with 3 Hybrid or a wood. Looking forward to test out the G430 Max as whilst I’m generally a fader of the driver, I sometimes need to shape it right to left where I play.

    Terrific review, as usual. Do you have access to more than the 4H? I’d love to know how these gap at your speed - 3H to 4H to 5H and so on. I’ve demoed the G430 hybrids a couple times now and am so impressed. Frankly, I want to play them into the highest lofts possible - I’m pretty close to your speed and it’s pretty windy here, so that often means the 3H and 4H are fine but the 5H is too high and spinny … but man, it’s so unbelievably easy to hit that I want it anyway even if it’s only to bring out on calm days with little wind.

    Greatly value your tests, especially those for moderate swing speeds and for off center strikes. Wish you would test the Ping G430 6 and 7 hybrids, particularly after your super helpful video on how far should you hit a 7 iron. I am 82. My 7 iron swing speed is right in the 75 mph zone. Two years ago with Trackman I registered 74.8 mph with a 120 gram stiff shaft and solid muscle back blade iron with 34 degree loft, ball speed 100.6, smash 1.34, launch 22.9, height 81 ft, spin 5370, descent angle 46.3, carry 137.3, total 146.4. But that was the very best shot. With the lack of forgiveness in a solid blade and my modest skills, off center hits are inevitable, as you show us, so I have to consider my 7 iron as having a carry from 128 - 140 depending on strike and conditions. Would be nice to get a reliable extra few yards to make it that 150 yards to the pin club again. Within the past year I have replaced longer irons with a 21 degree 7 wood and 24 degree 9 wood. Love the look and feel of my forged blades but seeing some of the top pros using 7 and 9 woods opened my eyes and erased any of the old biases that they were only for little old ladies. So now the 6 and 7 irons are the question. I could buy a couple of stronger lofted mid-irons with added tech to keep trajectory high, but you have aptly shown the likely negatives and the advantage of that mystery 31 degree 11 hybrid.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  9 місяців тому +1

      The Ping 6 and 7 hybrids are normally custom only, when I was Coaching and Custom Fitting full time I bought in extra heads specifically for this and it worked with golfers really well. Unfortunately not many golfers ever get to test the benefits of the higher lofted hybrids due to their rate demoing nature. I guess that why these Eleven Hybrids work so well as they are effectively hybrids throughout the set and when reviewers get them to sample or review, it's not just a hybrid in a 2,3 or 4 hybrid option 👍🏻

    • @johnatchley9754
      @johnatchley9754 9 місяців тому

      @@AskGolfNut Thanks for clarifying. You are the only one who has actually demonstrated a high lofted hybrid. Andy the Average Golfer demoed Ping vs Paradym 25 lofts, so that got to the 5 iron equivalent but not 7 iron. I hit my forged blade 34 degree loft 7 iron today in a practice bay with Foresight GC Hawk monitor that gives ball speed, carry, total, spin, height and descent angle, and then hit a Ping 430G 34 degree 7 hybrid. Results confirm what you said. Will provide tomorrow, now 2:30 a. m. here. Also I was using my set with a 120 gram stiff Rifle Lite shaft that is heavy for me at age 82, and fitter only had a 70 gram regular flex graphite shaft for the Ping, while I would have preferred something a bit lighter, maybe 55 grams. I have another set of same forged blades with 87.5 gram Nippon Zelos 8 stiff shafts that I can swing faster, will do another comparison against the hybrid. But you are 100% right. Only problem is hybrids cost more.

  • @johnk.atchley5079
    @johnk.atchley5079 8 місяців тому

    You hit this one club well and like the performance, feel and sound. I tried a G430 34 degree 7 hybrid a day ago with a 70 gram regular flex shaft and did not like it at all. It felt heavy and dead. One of the staff at the indoor range also hit it into a screen with launch monitor and said the same thing. It was 5 minutes before closing and we did not have time to try an alternate shaft. I actually got better results with my forged blade 34 degree loft 7 iron with an 87.5 gram light steel shaft. However, those were the best two shots out of a dozen. But still, am comparing best iron swing with best hybrid swing. If I were to play mid and short iron hybrids I would want them to feel crisp, light and active, not dull and heavy.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi John, it's a common comment made by golfers that try out the Ping equipment, this is due to the high forgiveness design which unfortunately can make them swingweight head heavy. All their shafts are counter balanced to try and offset this. But they now do have the G430 HL hybrid which has a lighter setup. It's not going to give you the same seemless transition in your irons etc but that is an option.
      Going to a fully hybrid setup would bring continuity 👍🏻

      @@AskGolfNut Thank you for your incredibly responsive and quick replies. They are really helpful. You must be up really early. It’s 2 a.m. here so with our change of time it’s 5 hours ahead or 7 a. m. where you are. Or else you don’t sleep at all! As for swing weight, I can see how my irons feel so different. With the 87.5 gram Nippon Zelos 8 shaft and the fairly heavy Golf Pride Mccc4 mid size grips, they are D-0 even though a half inch long. The set of the same heads with 120 gram stiff Royal Precision Rifle Lite shafts and those grips is D-3.5. Again, the half inch longer shaft makes more of a difference in swing weight than I realized. Am learning new things every few days. Thanks again and enjoy your coffee.

    Hi, great review, thank you! As a 'teens' handicapper, I've always had multiple hybrids in my bag! I currently use Ping G425 4, 6, and even 7 hybrids, and adore them!! Now, the last 6 months or so, I find I'm continually reminding myself I need a 5H, as either too little for 6H or too much with 4H, you get the picture I'm sure!!
    In your honest opinion, have they really bettered the G425 hybrids?? Of course I hope to trial in the coming weeks, but would love plse some unbiased views on the differences between the 2 models..
    Many thanks in advance..

      Have they bettered the 425 by a large margin, no definitely not, however they have improved the forgiveness slightly, the feel absolutely, my only reservation is the lower radius roll on the low part of the face.... Only time will tell on that one. I'd say honestly if someone has 425s then I wouldn't be in a hurry to replace the lot for 430,however if someone is in the market for hybrids then this one is a definite test. If you can get a 425 5H at a cheaper price then defo go for that 👍

      They do play softer than the Tour side of the stock shaft choices, there are other options that fit in and around it but it is fair to say that they are on the weaker side of what people see as flex... In reality they play exactly to the bend profile they were designed for 👍🏻

      One way to remedy this consideration is to find out what bend profile you are rather than seeing it as flex as there are many many shafts that blur lines and even cross back and forth. As soon as you find out which bend profile you require then shaft choice becomes very very easy 👍🏻👍🏻

      I tend to fade the longer clubs Dickie, as the shaft lengths increase, angle of attack gets shallower, path creeps a few degree's across and the face weakens off to hit a small fade. Absolutely not uncommon for my tendencies 👍
