Happened to me in my only run ever playing the Forrest perhaps I can shed some light, the rock textures are weird in a sense where if you are falling no matter the height and land in between 2 rocks (like he did when he landed in the pit) it will glide you to ground that has proper textures for the player to walk on ignoring the fall damage because you technically fell into nothing and glided your way to the ground
imagine you're a cannibal going about your day and in the distance you catch a glimpse of this maniac frantically hopping diagonally chugging sodas as he suddenly takes a fucking swan dive into the massive sink hole that you've lost a few friends to in the night. You peek over the edge and see him running around and jumping into the water
I know that you can slide some parts to avoid fall damage, even in the last version. But how the fuck did he do that? i didn't see the slide 6:30 Everything else, incredible. Even almost dying in the final boss. Really amazing work!

I dont know about the falling but it looked like he bailed before the stamina depleted a tick. The depletion isn't constant but more like a half second tick depletion. The first rope he jumped off just prior to his stamina dropping and the ropes ive seen so far after he climbed with his stamina gauge empty.
So can someone explain how the fall into sinkhole isn’t considered a physics glitch? I’ve been reading comments and I hear you all on “landing on a slope” but just because it happens in a lot of FPS that doesn’t mean it’s not a glitch, it just means it’s a very common glitch. Falling that distance without taking damage is not “intended” gameplay, so it feels like glitch abuse for time. And I also understand that there are other glitches like “axe clipping” and “not fighting the final boss” so are those the only glitches that MATTER in a “glitch less” Speed run? Like what if I spent a tenth of a second to glitch my rebreather light permanently on, would I still be applicable for a “glitch less” speed run attempt? But this is a great run! Please don’t think I’m hating because this is great!
This is like 5 months late but hey why not, I'm just killing time anywho xD What I perceive the fall as in relation to being a glitch is that its more akin to abusing the way the physics engine works over being a straight 'glitch'. As a glitch would be a forced malfunction or faulting of the game, here the player is merely taking advantage of a readily available thing within the game. The GAME is working as intended as the code and every part of the game was still running as programmed (unlike a glitch) as it was coded but as you mentioned, the GAMEPLAY here is is not intended but as a result of how the physics is coded, this is not a glitch, just taking advantage of the way it was programmed. e.g. An example of this is basically dribbling in basketball when it was first created, in the beginning, a player could not advance the ball himself. Rather, he had to throw it from wherever he caught it. Dribbling was a result of players 're-interpreting' the passing rule to include a bounce pass to themself. Official allowances for the dribble-just one per possession initially-were adopted four years later. Seeing as the game devs don't do anything about this (may be just them focusing on the next installation but I digress) shows that it may not be INTENDED during development but something they aren't forced or in need to correct atm in any case
It's a glitch, if you were meant to die and you didn't it's a glitch, full stop. You found a way to manipulate fall damage. It's a glitch in the map how it was made, like glitching out of bounds. GLITCHLESS means no glitches whatsoever.

The definition (while ever slightly changing and varying) usually means "no major glitches" such arbitrary code in pokemon or clipping in most games. Its up to the moderators of the speedrunning site you submit to whether something is considered advantageous enough to "be a glitch" but no, to put it simply the rock slide wouldnt be a glitch, even by deliberation because its a simple game mechanic (although an unintended one but still a legitimate one) and no player ever leaves the boundaries and no backsides of any textures are shown.

Very impressive and obviously I haven't been playing long enough to get anywhere near this time, but I have to wonder whether or not the sinkhole fall counts as glitchless. Surely we could get lost in the weeds over which aspects of gameplay could be labeled as glitches or bugs and whether or not there is a meaningful distinction between the two, but I feel as though this specific choice stretches too far into the "unintended by developer" side of things.

I assumed it was just because he entered the water and immediately transitioned to the 'squeeze through' cut scene, and the game just didn't keep up, so it ended up showing the rebreather after the cutscene. What I find funny is that this particular exploit is ancient. People use this in CS:GO (they call it 'surfing' in CS) over ledges on some maps to negate fall damage, and it goes all the way back to Counter Strike 1.5 from 2002. As far as I'm aware its also present in other FPS games but I can't recall any others right now. It's just abusing the physics. I wonder why these games share this exact flaw on the physics

It has to do with stamina. Something in the code causes strafing to use less stamina. You might actually move faster as well. Not sure. I’m sure you could get better information from a search engine, but that’s what I know about it

Me and my buddy jumped down the side of the sinkhole without fall damage but there was a small slide
Maybe the slope for the slide was really small and he was lucky enough to hit it (probably)

Because there are parts of the fall that stick out that he knocks off and corners he can slide on to stop fall damage

It doesn't count as a glitch, he just used the land to slide. To clarify a glitch is axeclipping or not fighting the final boss.
