And 20 years after the Harrier.
if u think f35 is only about vtol and stol, ur sadly mistaken. western airforces used the harrier (wc has those capability) while the russian are stuck at prototypes only.
I watched this jet at Farnborough in the mid 1990s. It was fkin LOUD. Every car alarm parked near runway perimeter went off with the sheer vibration. On day 2 they stopped it doing vertical, it had melted huge holes in the tarmac !!! God, it really was a beast.
This aircraft was a quantum leap beyond anything else in its class at the time. Imagine, a fully BVR capable, supersonic fighter able to operate from the tiny flight deck of a 'Kiev' class.

Imitation is indeed the greatest form of flattery. The f35 is an exact copy of this aircraft.
-Single fan in the middle
-Dual tail rudders
-Same design Thrust vectoring nozzle ( mechanism)
Wrong.
Convair Model 200 and Yak 141 has two hot core lift engines and one main hot core engine.
F-35B has a single cool air lift fan geared connected to the main hot core engine.
Thrust vectoring nozzle was from year 1973 Convair Model 200.
F-35B avoided the problems that affected Convair Model 200 and Yak 141 i.e. hot air from the front lift jets causing thrust power reduction on the main rear engine.
@Dragomir Ronilac Correction: 1 ducted fan engine + the main engine for F-35

What a fighter plane! F-35 seems to be copied from Yak-41M.
The Russians/Soviets did and still make fantastic technologies. They are my heroes indeed:)
Были...
The development of the Yak-43 fighter began in the USSR in the 1980s. It was created on the basis of the carrier-based Yak-141 and was a direct competitor to the MiG-29. The single-seat aircraft had a length of over 18 m, a wingspan of about 10 m and a height of 5 meters. The fighter was created using stealth technology and had excellent maneuverability. It was equipped with an NK-32 turbojet with a variable thrust direction of 25 tons. By the way, they were installed on the legendary Tu-160 missile carrier. Its successor, Tu-160M2, will also be equipped with the upgraded NK-32-02.
The device had the possibility of a shortened takeoff: the required runway length was equal to 120 meters. For comparison, the takeoff run of the MiG-29 was twice as long. The placement of weapons was provided not only inside, but also outside the aircraft - at special suspension points. Unfortunately, after the collapse of the USSR, it was decided to curtail all work on the Yak-43 due to lack of funding. Comparing the new American fighter "F-35" with the domestic "Yak-43", the similarities between them can be seen with the "naked" eye. This is not surprising, given the fact that in the 1990s(Lockheed Martin was convinced of the capabilities of the Yakovlev Design Bureau in the area of SV (U) VP, since in June 1995 both firms signed a contract for the SV (U) VP version of the X-35) the United States actively collaborated with Yakovlev's design bureau in developing its apparatus. At the same time, the design bureau transferred all the drawings and documents related to the Yak-141 to the American corporation Lockheed, as a result of which the deck-based F-35B was born.
SOVIET POWER SUPREME ❗
The F-35B was already in an advanced stage of development by the time Lockheed purchased some Yak-41 information so it didn't really influence it and the tomcat was still superior.
You know that's bullshit right ? Yakolev signed a deal with Lockheed to provide blueprints in return for money. Yakolev even showcases 2 non working jets. But Yakolev uses 3 engines in total for VTOL purpose , F35 uses 1.

Yak-141 is the sole reason I love Soviet aircraft. It was created at the time that the country was in great difficulties, had the greatest gap with the western world. Fun fact: these only prototype phase aircrafts had better radar equipment, than the average serial production MiG-29 or Su-27 at that era. The Zhuk radar was one of the main improvement of the upgraded 9.15 and 9.31 MiG-29M and K, while the Yak-141 was originally fitted with this system, right from the start. Which means, the Yakovlev did not want to sacrifice the proposed advanced capablity of the avionics section, just because it was the first supersonic STOL/VTOL aircraft in the world and it was a pioneer technology. Even if the supersonic VTOL concept was came from the US Navy and the british aviation industry from the 60's (so as the famous 3BSN nozzle technology too), the Yak-141 was the very first flyable example of its kind. In the 80's, every critical and expensive technology was intruduced almost in the final status in the soviet military industry. For example, right at the very first start of the mighty Energiya rocket, the payload was a live equipment, the first laser weapon into the space. Which was actually also a true indicator of the way, how serious was the late-soviet effort to keep the step with the West. Especially, since the arm-race generator american SDI was just a bluff. There was no valid US atempt to really try to send a laser weapon into the space. But the soviets made it. Even if the price was enormous and the result was accidently nothing but zero. The MiG-31M was also an almost-ready-to-manufacturing system with its extremly extened avionics and weapon system, when it was cancelled. Every last minute soviet project was an all-or-nothing rush. However, I am not sure, if the Yak-141 could really able to reach a proper range, tactical, or even an operational capability, without any further development.
Love you russia from mauritius island 🇲🇺 keep it up
I am sure that if it had not been for the collapse of the USSR, the aircraft would have gone into production.
There are many abandoned Soviet sections and objects.
Not without sad irony, we call this «traces of an ancient and more developed civilization»
About the "more developed" you exaggerated too much! Today, there are many things in the Russian military-industrial complex that were not dreamed of during the USSR

One of the most sexies design fighter aircraft i ever seen ♡ !
Nice video, thank you! Is incredible how man can build this complex machines with LOTS of challenges... Every man would try to build ANYTHING, the most simple machine in its garage for example, in order to just begin to understand the huge knowledge, passion and dedication implied in the materializacion of these kind aircrafts...
no words, absolute beast, i keep coming back to this masterpiece, amazing vid / edit montage

Love this footage. Thx 4 uploading!
Granddaddy of F-35B! Awesome video, first time I've seen footage of its design and static testing.

Thank you very much!

Not only informative, but also a rather well done clip too!
Ok, now I know where the muricans got the design for the F35....
they bought Yak 141 back in the 90's. It's nor a secret
@@izaakfewton7536 No they didn't buy the Yak. They bought technical documentation, primearly of the lift-jet and swivel nozzle configuration and its performance data.
@@arkimedez3688 that's what I meant but thanks anyway

@sulaiman ok There is no record of that claim, and it does not make any sense.

F-35 sucks, read Rand report for Australian AF, it has one thing going for it and that is stealth, otherwise its terrible, I have a feeling this YAK-41 ran into a lot of the same issues
