The way Legendary shield works is like this: Each team starts with a designated unbreakable punch shield and their goal is to steal the other team's shield and smash the two together. You usually have to say something silly when you do it, or else you don't win. In our realm, we say "With our powers combined!"
Excellent work. I think you guys did a really excellent job of capturing all the aspects of Dagorhir. Showing how people enjoy it for different reasons, and even how it is important to people. My hat is off to you folks. Cheers.
This is one of the best Dag documentaries I have seen on youtube. The quality for these types of videos seems to continue improving. I'm excited to do some eastern boffer these coming years. Thanks for keeping me stoked.
Thank you for this vid. I am Mikhail Mobius of Seregdor. (Southern Louisiana) and moved to the northern parts of Louisiana. I will be using this vid to get people interested to start a group. Many thanks!
I am glad to see so much support and want to thank the Vid crew, My Canaur peeps and the other fighters of Dagorhir that help make this documentary great! It wonderful to have great publicity like this to shine a light on the game. See you all at Ragnarok! ~Deakon Avory~
It's when you have more than a couple teams preferably 3/4. Each team elects 1 shield to be their legendary shield and before the fight you let it known that this particular shield is your legendary shield. ANYONE can carry this shield on your team and the idea is to kill off the other team, steal their shield and everyone else's shield and touch them together to win. Like capture the flag in a sense.
It's quite interesting to see the differences between the German Larp events and the US Dagorhir events. The styles and types of armor seem to be different. Probably, this is due to personal preferences.
Are there any active branches near west New Jersey? I checked the Philadelphia chapter's website and the last posts are from 2010 with no new announcements.
This is great! I am trying to get a feel for Dagorhir because my son is an active member. He wants me to make garb for the group. This documentary gives me a good start. thanks!
You folks did an amazing job with this. If you took your current footage, then packed up and went to Ragnarok, you could do an outstanding full-length documentary. I strongly encourage you to do just that. Fantastic work.
It's not a "medieval combat sport" rather it is a "fantasy" based recreational activity. I'm not knocking Dragonhir participants as to each his own but let's be honest with what is going on here and not sugar coat it for fear of what outsiders might think. There are bona fide medieval combat groups such as HEMA, Battle of the Nations, etc. and then there are historical re-enactment groups like Society for Creative Anachronism. Dragonhir doesn't fit into any of these categories because it is not historically based rather it is simply fantasy.
I've been with Dagorhir for 12 years and have always described it as half-way along the fantasy-history scale. Started in the 70s by fans of LOTR there is a LOT of fantasy. However, there are also many aspects that make it medieval reenactment as well. These aspects are not necessarily represented in this video. ;)
I'd say it's historical fantasy; fantasy based upon actual mythology and religion, as opposed to D&D style high fantasy. And most people wear armor that is historically accurate, as well as using historical methods of fighting
no so far dagorhire is strictly in America your welcome to make your own i am a member of a kingdom in Missouri its a fun fun game it is amazing i have been a member for more than a year and it has made my life so much better. wanna know more go to dagorhire com
idk man.it does have some characteristics of lord of the rings but also some of real history..ive been to *larp practices*cuz they wanted me to check it out and i did.and i still think that dag is alot more about WHACK BLOCK SHEILD BASH WHAKC..than .FIREBALL THREE FIRE DAMAGE + 6..but everybody has there opinions and i respect that
i honestly dont think dagorhir is a larp neccesarily...its a combat sport to answer a comment..i practice with people who drees up and poeple that just like to come out every weekend and wear there normal day clothes and they go to events and put on a little tunic or somthing and no one cares...theres a sense of freedom to do what u want..lot of larping doesnt have that
Fantastic. One of the best I've seen.

Dont worry about what friends say. Its totally worth it.

Everywhere my brother. You can even start your own chapter.
Best video on this i have seen wish it was longer and had more information but its a nice introduction into the sport and less of a documentary

Dagorhir as an organization actually is a Lord of the Rings LARP. Technically, its counterpart Belegarth is the less larpy of the two.
Well done guys.
wow I really didn't know dagorhir was this big. I discovered it just a month or so ago and figured it was just something in my town

I'm going to the georgia battle soon. Great video.
Why don't we have these kind of things in Sweden? I'm amazed.. I WANT THIS SO BAD!
It's full contact with weapons that aren't exactly pillows, I'd call it a sport. :d
This is fantastically put together! Great job!!
you can always start one yourself.
I'm 14 and do dagorhir in my town I can't wait to go!!!!!!!
Very Cool.

Druss looking like he belongs in a L'oreal commercial at 5:27
Figures on the accountant thing. There isn't an accountant still alive that doesn't have some really intense weekend stress relief
This is great! I am trying to get a feel for Dagorhir because my son is an active member. He wants me to make garb for the group. This documentary gives me a good start. thanks!
Ani Waya represent! Awooooooooo!

well done, hope to see everyone at winterwar 2012 as well :)
who need real swords when you can kill some one with a foam one
Do you need to be a certain age to play in the huge fights
Update since this video was made: Winter War has since been moved to Aiken, SC (Eastwind). Ides of course is still in Bowden at Dragon Hills
Of course!
This looks amazing.
Hell Yeah Deakon!!!! Eryndor for life brother!!
-Talionis
Eryndor '08
I was there actually I was the girl in black walking in a cloak at 7:45 it was the most amazing thing ever. I hurt my wrist...
I would like to use this on our dag unit's webpage is that okay?
whats the legendary shield battle if i could get an explanation please
You should start it, it would make the game go international. Not too many people play this out of the US, if any.
Oh, I wouldn't care what my friends think, I actually love being dorky.
is there an age limit and if there is what age is it and when are these
i wanna go so bad!
they do its just not as hard hitting its more about roleplay. and they can take things to serious sometimes.
FINALLY!! A SPORT FOR US NERDS!!! :D
This looks amazing. I'm quite a dork myself, and I would laugh at the expressions on my friends' faces if they saw me doing this kind of thing!
I just like melee fighting
RAGNAROK AWAITS!!!!!!!!!!
the lowest age limit i have seen is 14, and that is a viking clan in dagrohir. you can only go to practises when you are 14
How have I not seen this video before?
where is this?
This video makes me really want to give Dag a try
This looks awesome I wish I had it in my town.
edit: Is this still going on? (2012)? :)
Hmm, i know i wasn't in it, but i was part of all that, love doing Ides and winter wars.

I've never seen historical fighting rather an elaborate pillow fight. If people find this enjoyable then by all means have fun with it.
I'm so jelous.. Why does this not exist in Sweden?
Central Florida, eh? Who are you?
