I have always had mild rosacea, but menopause has really sensitised my skin , made the rosacea worse and also triggered peri oral dermatitis. I now only use really gentle skincare , where as before I could use a vitamin C and retinol, now no more. Mine is definitely hormone related.

Nadine. If you have a tiny bit of redness around your nose you have no idea the physical and mental problems people with rosacea have. But thank you for having Lexie on and her insight as someone going through this

The best thing I’ve found for rosacea is Rosalique. Not only is it soothing ( for me at least) but it disguises the redness very naturally.

I have been a holistic master esthetician for almost 4 decades and one thing I know for sure is that if you only notice “ rosacea “ on your face and not your neck or chest it is likely bad products, sunscreen and most always foundation and concealer. Every single time I take a client off any of these and most especially foundation and concealer the skin clears up.
We have natural fungus and bacteria always on our skin and it is when we leave an opening for it that we have issues. I have found Rosacea to be one of the most overly diagnosed skin diseases along with psoriasis or eczema.
With absolute respect o both of you and simply my holistic take🧡
    Blessings everyone 🍑🙌🏻Lisa

As someone who deals with a rare immune-related skin condition that flares up 5% of the time still despite medication (staphyloccocus aureus bacterial folliculitis), this has been so cathartic to watch! I don't (want to) feel less worthy of enjoying or less welcome to have opinions about beauty because of a condition flaring up. The situation is definitely getting better, though, with diverse and open-mined bloggers like Lexie, as well as people like Nadine who really discuss beauty and skin in an educated, real, and inclusive way.

I have rosacea as well, although still officially undiagnosed (my rheumathologist pointed it out. Rosacea is common in patients with autoimmune diseases, as you are touching on, and I have flare ups with my OG disease). The LRP Cicaplast Baume is a staple for me during autumn and winter as is anything that strengthens the skin barrier. The SPF struggle is real! I react to cinnamates, so I only choose mineral ones, or those with only new organic filters. My rosacea responds really well to AHA’s and PHA’s and really calms down with the products I use (most notably Neostrata Bionic Face Serum). Thanks for the video, really interesting and informative!

I found this really interesting - Lexie knows her stuff and puts it all across so clearly too. I’ve got ultra sensitive skin with bouts of hives after a dose of shingles last year, and thanks to you Nadine am already using the Toleraine range. And you’re spot on about the Clinique Cleansing Balm, the lavender-ish packaging has been putting me in mind of essential oils. I’ll give it a whirl now. Thank you both, super stuff!

Rosacea is very complicated and different slightly for all of us. I developed it during perimenopause and did a lot of my own research to manage it. I was a Staff Nurse for many years and knew what it was, so I figured out many of my own triggers and in conversation with my GP have the medication I need to keep it under control. I'm type one, but the whole of the centre of my face is affected including forehead and chin, plus my chest and neck can also flare. i have quite a few visible capillaries from previous flares that I cover with makeup when I'm not in the house. Mineral spf works far better for me most of the year, but I do switch that to a chemical spf in warm weather as it just stays on better. I have very dry and eczema prone skin as well, so i need a rich cream for skin comfort. Fragrance is an absolute no no for me and even many products without fragrance can cause a fairly extreme reaction. I have to patch test everything really well before I even think of applying it. I would urge people to keep trying to get a GP to help, as apart from some topical treatments I also have tablets that help stop the flushing. Not every medication is suitable for everyone, which is why I'm not mentioning the medications I do have. I also have some eye issues associated with the rosacea and use eye drops etc to manage that. I also have arthritis, IBS, hayfever and i had endometriosis throughout my life since my early teens - all these are auto immune conditions and my body fighting against itself. Rosacea is another auto immune disease and can often present in peri or menopausal women, although age is not really an indicator. It is possible to get it fairly well controlled, but it will always have the potential to flare as it is a chronic condition. Best wishes.

This is interesting I have endo wasn't diagnosed for 16 years that's another story but I've had sporadic eye issues and very red highly irritated skin plus allergies to pollen, air freshener fly sprays etc but put that down to one red haired parent and the other with black Irish colouring. It totally makes sense systemic inflammation. Thankyou so much for your comment. I'm trying to find a sunscreen that will work for me I have horrific watery eyes and find chemical sunscreen ends up in my eyes stinging dreadfully. I'm very sensitive to physical sensations like hairbrushing etc and sometimes I literally can't face wearing it (I'm being investigated for autism as well which makes life difficult as well) are there any particular mineral cosmetic brands you have used and would reccomend?

@@victoriahollis3454 Hi my three current favourites are:
skinceuticals mineral spf50 lotion - really moisturising with a primer like finish on the skin, but very expensive
paula's choice calm mineral spf30 - so gentle I can use it during a flare when most things sting/burn, but only an spf30 so best suited for the colder months
Avene mineral spf50 - similar to the skinceuticals, but less moisturising and a lot cheaper
both the skinceutical and avene have a type of silicone that makes them easy to spread and works well for my skin. It's not like a heavy dimethicone primer, but is much lighter in consistency and finish on the skin. It is however slightly smoothing/blurring and works really well under makeup for me. I hope that helps. I do think it is important to see your doctor and see if it is rosacea, or some other condition that he can help you with. These spf's are good for sensitive skin though and will hopefully be far more comfortable around the eye area. I hope you feel better soon and get any necessary diagnosis and medications you need. x

I have type 1 rosacea (natural "blush", broken capillaries). Finding a foundation is so so tricky. I have just about given up on face makeup. Right now I'm testing out yet another foundation as I type. Literally just got it in the mail. My skin is light, but my rosy cheeks are way darker and my cheeks look chalky with foundation. Usually if I do wear makeup, I'll just do an eye and lip, and call it a day. (59 yrs).

Have you tried rosalique? You can buy a generous sample for £2- I dove straight on and bought the tube and it’s been amazing. You need so little it’s very economical. I will never use foundation again.

I hope you do not mind my input. In my comment above I explain I have been a holistic master esthetician for almost 4 decades. I have some tricks that work? I have three holistic skin care salons so you can trust me. Not to be disrespectful in any way to this channel but come over and see my Before & After of Ann. Her skin transformed in a month a half. Stop the foundation and concealer. Blessings 🙌🏻🍑Lisa

I think you are so right about a hormonal link with some people. I had 2 miscarriages & after the 1st one, having had no problems before, my skin went crazy. I was diagnosed with rosacea & had the bumps & some redness. My Dr also had it, so was pretty good & prescribed Azelaic Acid which worked quite well. Btw I preferred the cream to the gel. After I had my son, now 11, the bumps didn't really happen any more. I now only have very mild redness here & there. I would say my rosacea is definitely hormone related. Emma x

Very interesting topic + Lexi a delight ❣️ I'm unsure if I have rosacea or not as suspected but not diagnosed by my GP,but do encounter flushing but never pustules. I flush with red wine + easily in hot weather + never dry my hair just before going out as I'm sure to have very red cheeks! I love the Avene + La Roche-Posay, your suggestions I took on board Nadine👍i have never heard of occular rosacea, but having blue sensitive eyes that weep easily, do feel I may have aspects of this as well. I struggle with most liquid foundations, opting for a light dusting of a powder foundation. Colour correcting gives me an almost grey look 🙈
Thank you ladies, really enjoyed the discussion

I have type 1 rosacea that started in early 2018. I get a patch on my forehead then straight down the middle of face including lips and chin. Central heating and cold windy weather really irritate it. Especially at the turn of the seasons. I love LRP (all of it) and CeraV cream to foam cleanser. I have also found Eucerin SPF really good especially the hyperpigmentation. I always very slowly build up products. I have also recently discovered Perfecto cica BB cream. It really is wonderful bit a bit off putting initially because it goes a ashy grey colour and the colour adjusts. plus it is also SPF40. Love your product selections. it is interesting that rosacea is triggered by hormones in women. I wonder if it’s similar for men.

I ended up with a type 2 rosacea for a few years, courtesy of a course of oral steroids I was prescribed by the immunologist to treat an allergic reaction. I gave up things I liked doing and eating in order to appease my skin, however, the redness, the burning, the postules and a couple of red capillaries around my nose persisted somewhat. And then, I entered the menopause and the miracle happened... over a few months the rosacea improved and then it disappeared. I don't know what will happen now that I am becoming postmenopausal, fingers crossed, my skin won't go back

absolutely loved this video! Such sound expert advice and experiences. Definitely going to try some of the recommended products. Side note - can Rosalique please please please start shipping to the Isle of Man? We are not as remote as some highlands and islands, and there are so many thousands of other companies will ship to us, so please change your shipping policy!

I tried the vascular IPL twice - the first time at a lower intensity and some weeks after my skin looked great. The second time my dermatologist went for a higher intensity and then I had a swollen face for a few days, which was pretty scary, and this time I don't really find the results that good. But my rosacea is due to using a topical steroid on the face for a long time, so it's very stubborn. The next laser I would like to try is the Vbeam (although it can also cause a swollen face). Luckily for me I can get these procedures at very decent prices...
In terms of skincare, I avoid fragrance, alcohol, essential oils, exfoliants, retinoids, basically anything that can be irritating to my skin. I also never put water on my skin (quite a challenge).
I love the Toleriane Ultra range, the Clinique anti-redness cream, the Cicalfate cream from Avene and the Bioderma Sensibio range.

A few ingredients that work for me are pre and probiotics (SkinGredients cream cleanser is amazing!) and beta glucan (so disappointed that JKossume is discontinued). Enzyme cleansers and lactic acid are the best exfoliators for me and even some glycolic sometimes. I do use a retinoid but very low concentration. It’s also really important to stick to my routine - even leaving my skin alone for a couple days can trigger my rosacea. Does this happen for anyone else?
