Just adding to the crowd thanking you for reviewing the RGRTBB21. I've been researching baritones for weeks and it lead me to it. I needed info and some tone examples. Your breakdown was about everything I could've asked for (maybe other than some solo clean tone examples). I was a little skeptical of the bridge, but you clarified its value. It's still out of my price range, but if I save up and/or sell a couple items, it could work for me.
Wow been looking at this new baritone for months and you have done an excellent demo and comparison of the other baritone. Thanks for this and for going over everything in great detail.
Still in the first third of the video but already giving a like and subscribing. This is a very thorough review....true to the channel name. Well done!
Absolutely true; not a single video for this guitar, make me wondering why and also raising some doubts about buying it blind. It would be wonderful getting additional videos from you as new user being able to listening to it without a mix (raw)
I’m one of the weirdo’s that somehow ended up with the 621 version. I also have the BB21. What gauge strings to you use and what’s some good tunings? I’m pretty new to baritones and your intro sounds amazing.
Thanks! I used my own patch on the Headrush MX5, no additional processing, just a direct recording from the MX5. As for the string gauge, those are the default, as those were the factory strings used in the demo.
I got the RGRTBB21 from sweetwater over summer 2023 and paid for the extra setup with low action no buzz. When It arrived as soon as i seen it i fell in love with its all black aesthetics which is why i wanted it. I wanted to love the guitar so much but when i got the guitar it had a lot of buzz, the edges of the neck wood was wonky and wavy looking and not smooth and there was a chip in the fretboard so i sent it back and was credited, though the guitar was still on backorder when i was told that "one" came in and the sales engineer asked if i wanted it and i said yes so i think they sent me a bad one knowing it. I Decided yesterday to reorder the RGRTBB21 on back order hoping to get one from a good batch this time, if so i'll most likely put a evertune and fishmans in it.
Yeah, I had a similar experience with my AZ42P1 BK. The first one had uneven processing of the neck, some dips and bumps, a stain on the fingerboard and the nut was way off. Returned I, got a new one and super happy with that one :)
A W E S O M E !!! 🔥. I've been litteraly searching info and some footage about the BB21 for weeks... finally today I find your video to see this beauty on someones hands... and what I found? Probably the BEST guitar comparison/review I've ever seen... You even teach me shit that I didnt know that I needed to know haha.. THANK YOU man! YOU are legendary ⚔️
I think I will be keeping the BB21. When testing , just do an open chord with distortion, and you'll hear the witchcraft of monorails in action. But it is a tough choice, because I really do like the IB21 as well.
@@MyDeepGuide I was watching baritone channel (The Bunn), he says the bridge is further back , I also have a Danelectro BT66 the scale is 29.75 , everything was great but hard to reach the lower frets. The RGIB21 was a little longer the other way , making shred stuff a little harder the other way. I am hoping the bridge is a standard spot. And yeah it’s crazy there’s not one piece of information on this guitar , other than what they put out , maybe not many people have it yet.
When walking into the music store with buying a guitar in mind, owning a Chinese strat, I wanted either a BC Rich or a Gibson. The owner of the store looked at my hands and asked if I felt comfortable playing those, I personally didn't know but he said it didn't look right, he then offered me an Ibanez RG model and the moment I put my hand on that neck it felt like picking the right wand. The guitar was cheaper than anything I was looking at and I've been a regular customer for decades until they closed shop a couple of years ago. Anyways, a little testament to the amazing Wizard necks (and great store owners) from my end. Thanks a lot for this review, indeed it's almost impossible to find anything on the RGRTBB21-BKF Baritone, all demo video's are with the normal version. Which one did you end up keeping?
@@MyDeepGuide check out video called "FORGOTTEN SECRET about Humbuckers | Guitar Tweakz" by Kris Barocsi. It will explain this in a lot more detail than I could. As for personal experience, I have d activator in a Fernandes guitar, which has a sustainer pickup in the neck. I'm used to playing with only one pickup, but in this case, I just couldn't find a sweet spot between good, chunky metal rhythm tone, good lead tone and something bit more tame & crunchy. I tried to lowering, raising pickup, etc, but nothing really worked until I started adjusting the pole-piece heights. I raised the pole pieces for 3 lowest strings in the coil, that's closer to the bridge, and raised the pole pieces for 3 higher strings in the coil closer to the neck. It made a huge difference in the tone. I suggested checking that out. Cheers!
This is definitely one of the best reviews that I've seen! You really explain all aspects of each guitar, including pros and cons. I personally like the BB21 because of it's black, satin finish; however, this is strictly on appearance. I have only played 27" Baritones and it's my current scale length preference because, as a novice guitarist, it's probably easier to play without have to extend my fingers as much. I'm currently considering a 27" Jackson Baritione, but will keep these Ibanez's in mind. Excellent riffs by the way! In the end, did you keep one of them?
Thanks! Yes I did, I kept the BB21, but I have modified it by putting new electronics and pickups in, to make it tamer, and more versatile, so now it's the opposite of a sleeper 😁 it looks like a demon, but can sing gentle lullabies 😁 Joking aside, that exposed just how good of a guitar it actually is, as it has a wonderful tone, sustain and clarity at the same time.
Ordered two of the RGIB21 in 2022 and both had several tool markings. One of them had even red paintjob markings in the body. Also it had a million scratches from the polishing machine. Ridiculous… Never had such a bad guitar from Ibanez. I was so frustrated, that I gave it back and now ordered the Iron Black Label.
Anyone have any experience with the RGRTBB21BKF tuned down an octave from E standard? If so, what gage strings would you recommend (preferably Ernie Ball Slinkies)?
9-84 8 string set, and just ditch the two higher strings and use the other ones. For an octave below e standard on a 28 scale, this works very well. I play in double drop d sharp with these strings and this guitar. It works very well. Let me know how you get on.
Hey brotha Im doing a build using the sample kind of single string bridge pieces the rgdbb uses and i wanted to see if youve taken it down at all and could give me some insight if you have on how the bridge pieces are grounded I cant find much info on this topic for guitar only bass and it seems theyre pretty different on guitars bass
I wonder what's going on with the Iron Label ... label. This model USED to be an Iron Label (as was the RGIXL7) but the lineup was culled and the two models that retain the "I" in the model name are no longer Iron Label, while the current two don't have the "I" in the name. The line was never well defined, and for a while they even had some fancy tops on a couple of Iron Label models, even though they introduced the series as a "no frills" kinda thing.
I think they threw them in the standard since they both have been an iron label model for a while so essentially they figured why not throw them in the standard & make room for new iron labels
@@MyDeepGuide What pickups did you end up with? In your example I thought the 81 sat better in the mix.But with some tweaking down the chain it could easily be the other way around. Great video!
@@MyDeepGuide Thank you very much for your through review. I just ordered a black label baritone and was wondering about the factory string gauges - if kept in B standard should I go for something lighter, Like 12-62? I thought with the added scale tension it's not necessary to have such heavy gauges? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks again!
I have and love the rgib6 and that things a f beast. I like active pickups better, but that's just me. I like this guitar tho, kind of nerve racking it came not set up good. It's like buying a new car with already needing a tune up
I have the RGRTBB21. it´s an awesome Guitar, but the Factory Setup is really weird. 14-68 Strings in B-Standard Tuning is very tight. i Have it Setup in Drop D# with an 80Gauge as the lowest String, works like a Charm. But i am also a little torn on the D-Activator pickups...i cant say they sound bad, but they definetly take some time getting used to.

Super detail and well organized review.

I seem to be in the minority, but the thing that draws me to electric baritone is the deep, rich clean and low gain tones.

I want an Ibanez RGRTBB21BKF so bad! I have 6 RGs, but none are baritone, and none have a reversed headstock, either.

The large string ferrule is so you can use bass strings if if wasnt mentioned already. Nice feature.
I've found that adjusting pole-piece height, instead of raising/lowering D-activators makes 'em more versatile.
Could you elaborate a bit more, how does it make them more versatile, what was your experience? Thanks!

How is the screening in the BB21? Was it done with copper tinfoil or just painted?
The 6th string hole is bigger so you can fir a bass string into it
How is the neck dive on both of them? I wish they made a prestige model baritone
