Keith Whitley-"Lord, It Sure Is Drunk Out Tonight"

- Опубліковано 18 лют 2008
- Another rare Keith Whitley demo he wrote with Bill Carswell back when he was a songwriter with Tree Publishing. These lyrics are a perfect example of a tendency he showed as a songwriter to use a play on words, much like he did with "Charlotte's in North Carolina" and "I Want My Rib Back."
Being a recovering alcoholic i can say this..that you dont quit until u hit bottom or the alcohol kills you. I wish i could have talked to Keith, but alas the bottle took him much too soon and may God Rest his Soul. None of us know the demons that plagued his beautiful soul and voice. A tragid loss much too soon God Bless and put the plug in the jug!!
So true
Or ya always learn how to “cope” …. IMO, wouldn’t be surprised if the bottle….is on purpose
Can u imagine how many dozens and dozens of number one hits he'd have today if he was still with us??
I still miss him and his singing dearly after him being gone for 34 years!!
Seems like he left us just yesterday.
Wish he was still here singing for us!
I’ve always said and will continue to say he’d be bigger than Strait if he was here today
What a wonderful singer Keith Whitley was. I can only imagine how popular he would have been had he lived longer. He was already popular before he passed away. Such sorrow for Lorrie and Jessie.
He would’ve just as if not bigger than George Strait if he didn’t die so young
Thanks. Another of Keith's own songs, My Old Friend, is even more explicit in dealing with his own alcoholism and depression, which started during his days with Ralph Stanley (long before Lorre). Also his entire final album "Do You Think Of Me?" deals with it directly. Keith's unabashed emotionalism and introspection makes these recordings overwhelmingly powerful.
Love Keith Whitley, and his music! How can anyone say he didn't want a cure for his problem..The ones that are saying this you guys have problems also thinking you know everything!
That's right, he was so proud of that album, too. He put so much of himself into that last album. It's a beautiful piece of work. He took a lot of chances with the vocals, too, which he wouldn't have taken hadn't he been confident in his abilities to deliver it. Thanks for your comment and for stopping by.
You and me both. That's why the fans are so close-knit, because we're always hungry for something "new," something we've never heard before. And when one comes across something, they share with the fans (providing the family OK's it, of course). I guess that's where I come in. Thanks for stopping by. And sign that petition!
He was the best and that's hands down! Not a day goes by when I don't play his songs!
Getting to hear songwriter demoes is a rare treat. And some shuffling going on in this one.
Many thanks for sharing this music.
when you moved out a drunk front moved on in lol love that line.
Honesty is a bitch
There was not a shortage of pictures of people partaking of alcohol on the Internet. The video really made itself. I was happy to find another family portrait of Keith and Lorrie and the kids. Keith wrote songs this way quite often, using the play on words. He wrote one called "Flying Colors" that was just full of them. I might have to make a video for that song sometime. Really cute song!
I love you Keith, hope u r proud of the boy I'm raising.Jackson Keith Johnston.Let your Mom know that the talks we had on the phone saved my life and she made me feel like I was part of your family.First time I called her Richard Nixon actually had been the last person Faye had talked to.Isnt that crazy. He gave her his state flag.I told her I wanted one of your motorcycles and she told me I would have to ask Jesse when he grew up.ibcould actually here him in the background riding a dirt bike.so Jesse u all growed up now,hit me up so I can visit the farm and pick up my bike
Brilliant singer, lovely song. Thank you for sharing
Keith byl a zůstane jeden z nejlepších zpěváků,do svých písní dával celé své srdce ❤️
I love this song and I love to hear him sing it
Great song, and great talent!!!

Me too Stella....do you like to hear covers of ol country songs? If you do, i have a few
i know first what aolchol can do to a person and loved ones i have a drinking problem and for some reason i heard this song and man it brought back some memories form my teenage years..i should have already been dead but thank god i'm not and i live with this problem and i have my down days where it is so easy to give in but i know what i don't want to happen..keith whitley is so amazing
The Landscape of Country Music Would Be Totally Different If Keith Whitley Had Not Passed Away. Instead, We Are Left With What Might Have Been...
Great song...but heartbreaking when you know what happened to him later. So much talent, what a waste.
Once I thought I have heard every KW song ever recorded, I run across this one. Another masterpiece from Keith. There is much irony here. Thanks for share'n this great song.Bud
Dam best country voice I ever heard!
I saw him open for Hank Williams Jr he was awesome I was at work when he passed away he didn't know how great he was at least that's what I thought

Keith is the king of Country!
That's Right George Strait don't got nothing on Keith Whitley
The king went out early
He had his battle. It's so sad no one noticed. He is a great singer, no one can top him .To bad.
Awesome song.
He is singing about the way he feels.

Incredible.
I've never heard it before.
It really p's me off that the record companies are withholding Whitley's music!
Keith was one of the best; RIP; KEITH .
Best voice in country music
It has been very hard for me to say goodbye to my Country and Rock and Roll Heroes Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Gary Stewart, Vern Gosdin, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Don Williams, Joe Diffie, Roy Orbison, Loretta Lynn, Keith Whitley not in chronological order but Karma could you please stop for a while too many of the people that make my heart beat and make my days are being snatched up by the Grim Reaper? Please slow down or there will be no one left to inspire us, yeah Buddy Holly that’s another one among others
My next-door neighbor just got her 20-year coin from AA last year. She's a good person and a good neighbor, a grandmother of two who's raised her children in the church. Congrats to you for taking that first step. That first step is always the hardest, they say.
I acknowledge the fact that alcoholism is very real and the grip that it has on some people is very debilitating. A lot of these people in the video chose to live this life, view alcohol as "a good time," can't have a good time without the alcohol. I don't believe that. I love Keith Whitley. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him or listen to his music. The grip on him was relentless and would not let go, despite all he did to try to break free.
its one of many demos Keith did when he was primarily a song writer. many of them are on keith Whitley Blvd on Yahoo. They can be downloaded and stored on cds.
it don't get no better
@scrappydo,
Hope all is going well with you now. Be glad you had the 22 years with her, some of us didn't have a chance at all to be with the ones we loved.
That's the man!
The BEST!
@budmorgan64 Keith and Kix Brooks did all the demos from Tree Publishing from several years in the mid 1980s. Many written by Keith and Kix. There are dozens of them that are in the vaults somewhere. RCA says that someday they will release them.
Son Keith is the best!
This is EXCEPTIONAL ... Thank you for sharing.
DDR
Dam I can surly relate to him and this song
I agree rosalyre what a talent he was
great job love to hear the ones I've never heard.
love tha man
Wot a life but we don't no wot demons Keith had he only one who nos and now they've gone with him RIP Keith
MAMsMom97, Thanks for posting all the Keith! It's made my night. =)
Keith's final album Do YOu Think Of Me deals directly with his own alcoholism and depression. These are topics that show up in many of his own songs as well (like this one). Its sad that less than two weeks after the album was completed he died from alcoholism.
I couldn't be the man you hoped i'd be...
I ain't drewn a sober breth in days..lord.... if you don't know Keith you lost a lost. he is my life in words
In his liner notes to "Do You Think of Me", Keith writes that its amazing that some men can't stand on their own feet without help. "My help came from a bottle. In fact it was almost exactly like this". Keith used alcohol to deal with his deep depressions. It was no joke. Like Hank, like Lefty, like Townes, it consumed his life and killed him.
One of the best songs ever lol maybe the best ..we miss u
Great
theres no change in sight
I love this goddamn song!?!
Keith had the best voice in country music and if he didn’t die so young and if more recorded demos like this were released he would’ve been just as if not bigger than George Strait. Hell 2 out of Strait’s 60 number 1 hits were originally recorded by Keith
Hell yeah, pour me another shot!
Sadly, life imitated art in this instance.
the way this country is going now its drunk out every night.
lot of loss little love
my song tonight!
Oh Lord he was handsome!!!
Some do and some don't. Alcholism is often coupled with clinical depression, as it did in Keith's case. This leaves the person with a completely distorted view of life and the world around him and makes it easy for the person to constantly fall off the wagon. Its a complex difficult issue for even the most skilled professionals to deal with.
been there and done that
That's an interesting and very valid point you bring up. Thanks for your input. It was definitely appreciated!
Thanks for your kind comment and for the perspective you bring to the table. God bless you!
That was me when I was twenty:)
This is a demo? Sounds rightly finished to me! Really fine song. Thanks to the person(s) who created the professional quality video. (And thumbs way down to the people who turned the comments into a political rant and almost soured the entire musical experience for me. And I'd say that no matter where on the political spectrum you were.)
Gone to soon😢😢😢
A great drinking song sung by someone who knows it best
Keith man, what can you say about him that hasn't been said, the only thing I can say is alcoholism doesn't discriminate...I don't care what you have or how good it looks on the outside... I've known people with quarter million dollar cars in their garage drink themselves to death. It's real
This song pretty much summed up his life. He died from frinking rubbing alcohol and had Xanax and cocaine in his autopsy report. Such a great lost talent. We miss you keith I talk to your son every now and again.
I really wish I could find this song in better quality
Can RCA or someone please release this? And I don’t mean adding new instrumentals like the producers did on his 1995 album. Seriously, put this and 9 or 11 others on a CD. I’ve got cash and a credit card.
hell yea is all i got to say
Pretty hard to beat that
Ooook 👍😘😘😘
The truth is hard
I don't hear any strange chords outside of the major 4. You probably would have an easy time of picking it out. I've received many requests for "Daddy Loved Trains" other than yours. I'll try to get it on. I've been receiving other requests as well. Thanks for stopping by.
Lol awesome
he sure wrote alot of peoples lives just the way it is
You're right. The treatments, the interventions, the meds that make you sick, it's all real, and it don't work unless you have the right attitude and strong support. And then sometimes even when you have all that, it's not a guarantee that even that will work. It's serious stuff. Thanks for your comment.
HELL YES I LOVE MY BEER!!!
Some of the pics in this one are kinda funny. Like at the beginning, when that cat had all 4 limbs around a booze bottle. The clip later showed that same cat sitting up slouched on the sofa, with a bottle of beer in one paw and the remote control next to it. How about it?!
Very good song song!!! Its funny how an alcoholic can speak to another
is there anyway i can get tthe chords to this.
and can you put
"where ever you are tonight"
"daddy loved trains"
on here thatnks
i realy wanna know where i can find a download for this song somone please tell me
I think he is doing good
i never touched a drink till a woman did me wrong and it hurts less she she ever did to me.
lot of loss little lov
It's hard to say just how many he did record since the age of 15, since he began recording. He actually had a relatively long career, but I think you're just referring to his RCA days. He's even written songs that he never pursued getting copyrights for. That is to say that they're not registered with Tree, his old publishing company. Thanks for your comments! And be sure to sign the petition to get him considered for the CMHOF. The link's on my channel.
is there any way u can send me the chords to this. and if there is anyway you can put
"daddy loved trains" and "where ever you are tonight"
Well, as you might be able to guess, I don't drink, and I don't associate with anyone who has been. After May 9, 1989, I pretty much became dead set against alcohol. I only ever tasted a capful of peach schnapps, and my dad was with me, so it was no secret.
Robert, you "said it like it is." "Keith knew the problem, didn't want a cure."
