As someone who tried to get into drawing many times, but always lost interest, this is the first time I managed to stick into a tutorial video, especially more that a hour. I found my old sketchbook, and with the last pages that remained, I did all the exercises, and I was really surprised at how calm and steady I was. I ordered a new sketchbook, and I'm planning on sticking to the end! Thank you very much!
I left my pencil 20 years ago and I don't know why. I think out-of sadness as I am dyslexic. In gradeschool, I was always criticized for doing art backwards butvstill getting an A+. I feel like crying, writing this, but..The Universe sent me here and back to my first love. My old sketbooks are from the 80's. I was shocked to see how good I was. I think better when I was younger, with a free clear mind.

Thanks Markowsky. I really enjoyed this first video and am so excited to continue your class... My dad really screwed me up with trying things because I was always afraid of failure (art, as I'm sure you can understand, was ESPECIALLY daunting) despite having had won an award for a drawing when I was 10. But my prayer counselor has encouraged me to begin to draw again and I am so glad I did! The Holy Spirit is doing a mighty work in my life and drawing for me is an incredible gift that I can use to glorify our Lord with. When I was around 10 years old I was taking drawing courses in a private drawing school. To be honest, I did not really enjoy drawing back then and I was always bad at it. Few days ago thought that it'd be nice to try and give it another shot. Found this course and just went through the first video and damn, it's such a nice feeling to draw without being pressured by someone. Also ignoring my perfectionist-self really helps! I like how you said to forgive self and give myself freedom to make mistakes because I depend to be very hard on myself and self critical.
You’re very welcome! You’re not alone: all artists struggle with reconciling the difference between the vision they have in their heads and what appears on the page/canvas. The key is to allow yourself to embrace that discrepancy, to be pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns rather than be disappointed or depressed.
Currently trying to get into art. This is definitely helping with helping my brain to forgive small mistakes, and finish making the big picture. 100% finishing this class
I took this first class after having a very emotionally draining, negative interaction that left me feeling very down with a headache. Halfway through I found myself feeling relaxed and laughing at the comments. My state of mind completely turned 360 and ended off feeling positive and hopeful. I have tried to get into drawing several times but always given up because it seems that I am too much of a perfectionist, and constantly judging myself really took the pleasure out of it. Beautiful. I always found most drawing resources to walk too fast, but your way of doing it starts slow, very slow, and slow enough that I can understand it and I really appreciate it. Not everyone has a natural intuitive talent for reproducing forms; I can barely write my name legibly enough for the average person to read (but both my parents are doctors, so I guess it's just a genetic thing hehe), but your simple exercises make me feel confident enough to try them out. Thank you so much for this.

I used paint a lot few years back and after I took a break (cuz college and all the other life sucking stuff) i wanted to get back into painting again. Let me just say it wasn't a pleasant process. That was an amazing exercise! After 7 years of not drawing because of perfectionism that took the joy of doing so from me, I finally started drawing and really enjoying it! You're an amazing teacher, can't wait to watch more lessons

I've only ever done very little drawing in my 28 years, but I had urges to get back into it the past few weeks, and this statement holds up true! I've been playing guitar for 15 years (along with a few other instruments well), songwriting, and production, and I have ALWAYS had the belief with my music (and cooking) that I might not even enjoy what I made, but I know others will like it. I've put out well crafted material I didn't enjoy, but I knew others would enjoy it more than I would.
I just started this course and I'm extra motivated! Thank you so much. It heals my inner child who was scared to draw because everyone were better than me.

I took this first class after having a very emotionally draining, negative interaction that left me feeling very down with a headache. Halfway through I found myself feeling relaxed and laughing at the comments. My state of mind completely turned 360 and ended off feeling positive and hopeful. Hey Michael, I am so thankful I found this course! I have tried to get into drawing several times but always given up because it seems that I am too much of a perfectionist, and constantly judging myself really took the pleasure out of it. Beautiful. I always found most drawing resources to walk too fast, but your way of doing it starts slow, very slow, and slow enough that I can understand it and I really appreciate it. Not everyone has a natural intuitive talent for reproducing forms; I can barely write my name legibly enough for the average person to read (but both my parents are doctors, so I guess it's just a genetic thing hehe), but your simple exercises make me feel confident enough to try them out. Thank you so much for this.

I was passionate about drawing as a child but sort of lost interest as I aged into adulthood. Now age 36, I’m trying to rekindle that lost passion. That was an amazing exercise! After 7 years of not drawing because of perfectionism that took the joy of doing so from me, I finally started drawing and really enjoying it! You're an amazing teacher, can't wait to watch more lessons

I couldn't agree more! I've only ever done very little drawing in my 28 years, but I had urges to get back into it the past few weeks, and this statement holds up true! I've been playing guitar for 15 years (along with a few other instruments well), songwriting, and production, and I have ALWAYS had the belief with my music (and cooking) that I might not even enjoy what I made, but I know others will like it. I've put out well crafted material I didn't enjoy, but I knew others would enjoy it more than I would.
