      I did a few days ago and just got some Noah’s mill bc the brand was lodged in my brain. Yes, cinnamony - but beautiful bouquet of vanilla perfume onthe nose.

    In my opinion this is an AMAZING whiskey when you add one of those round ice cubes…. It cleans it up just enough. It’s AMAZING!!!

    This was/is my first love. Before Noah’s bourbon was supposed to be cheap and drank by the shot glass with friends at the bar. This was the bottle that changed all of that. I struggled with spending $50 on a bourbon, but I’m so glad I did. That was 5/6 years ago and I still love this stuff.

    Trying my first pour of this right now. I started this tasting before starting the video, in order to keep my tasting a bit more unbiased. Such an incredible pour. I definitely got the cinnamon and vanilla from it. Even without me finding out from you that it was a blend of different aged bourbons, it definitely had a complexity that contains a wonderful blend of the excitement of youth, and the wisdom that comes with age.

    In past years this has been a fun bourbon adventure since you never know what taste profile you would get, but the last bottle I purchased was so cinnamon heavy as to be almost undrinkable. I brought it out for a tasting and to a person no one could stand it.

    Found this bottle very sweet, even for bourbon. Ice or water ruins the flavor, even thought he proof is very high. Neat is the only way this bourbon tastes right (for me).

    I'm surprised that Rex didn't know whistle pig is another term for groundhog, as they are quite similar. Much like the whistle pig only comes out of it lair for food, Rex only leaves his lair to mouch whiskey!

    I bought this because I love lot's of caramel in a bourbon, but when I tried this, it had a predominant peanut flavour to me that was off-putting. :-) It's really sweet but It was hard for me to detect a caramel flavour in a sea of peanuts.

    I think I like this one more than Rowan’s creek but it might be a bit too sweet as a regular whiskey. I could see it as a situational type of drink.

  • @andrewwebb6270
    @andrewwebb6270 7 років тому +1

    Since finishing the aging process in a different barrel, for example sherry, changes the overall flavor profile, could you(in theory) finish the whisky in whatever you want? Or are there things you should avoid? For example are there any good brandy-finished whiskies?

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому

      In theory, you could do anything! I can tell you that Brenne is a brand that ages in Cognac barrels. Only weak link is that it can be overwhelming to the whisky flavors.
      Woodford has a brandy finished bourbon, I think.

    • @trinityzaku
      @trinityzaku 7 років тому

      To go along with Webb's question, is there a minimum length to which something should be finished in a different barrel? I assume that finishing in a already used barrel can give a new note rather rapidly due to some left over still in the barrel.

    • @andrewwebb6270
      @andrewwebb6270 7 років тому +1

      trinityzaku I second this question and also add, do you know of anything that has been transferred between multiple barrels? like say port then Sherry then cognac? or something of that nature?

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому

      The length is entirely determined by what was in it, the ambient temperature of the warehouse, and the size of the barrel, etc. Too many variables to have a flat standard.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому

      So are you meaning, starting in traditional used bourbon barrels and then using two "finishing" barrels? If so, I don't know of any off the top of my head. Although there are a few that are using different finished whisky that is then blended back together. But nothing single malt.

    You mentioned "10 other bourbons" you'd go to (in the $50 price range) before the Noah's Mill. What are they so that I can start to track them down. I know little about what to buy when I'm faced with selecting among 100 bottles so your reco's would be much appreciated. Good call on the tasting notes BTW. I really like this bourbon at that proof.

      figbag The Rowan comment is not to be snippy! Folks in KY love their history! The Rowan family , John Rowan in particular, owned Federal Hill which is today called My Old Kentucky home, which is of course the inspiration for our state song! Our bourbon is tied to our history! We are just protective of it that’s all! 😉

    While I appreciate the educated pallet comments about peppermints, roasted peanuts, and other sophisticated tongue comments.....personal taste is well......personal. I like this bourbon. It has a bite. It has a place. Unlike swill like Jim Beam and Wild Turkey. $50 a bottle. Pffffffft, Id pay that much to watch a monkey hump a football. This is very good albeit unusual bourbon.
