    I can't agree more about Daniel's opinion of Black Bottle. I was shamed when a friend pulled out such a low-cost bottle while I was attempting to mooch something much classier. Damned if it was not one of the finest blends I've ever had! I'm even tempted to buy my own bottle, it's that good. I haven't tried the Bunnahabhain 18. I went to said "friend" to try it but he turned the lights off and wouldn't answer the door. "Nevertheless, I'll persist."

      Persistence is the handmaiden of mooching. Never give up. Never surrender.

    My Dad got me into Black Bottle a few years back, it puts many single malts to shame with its flavour profile. Brilliant value for money.

    Wait! Wait! Wait! You just recommended black bottle, i have been searching for anything region specific single malt or blended, and for first time a recommendation comes in under 20 euro! Thank you so much!

    "If you're seven minutes in and still watching you're drunk." I've been binge watching your episodes while drinking various Irish whiskeys (is that the plural?) and must say I laughed pretty good at this because I am.

    Bunnahabhain 12 is never lacking from my house. I like the 18 but the 12 is a treasure. I'm still pretty new to things and the heavy peat doesn't really do it for me so I was amazed to find an Islay without the peat.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому

      It actually has a small amount of peat, but it's so late it's almost invisible compared to other Islay's. But it is absolutely a "must have in your house" whisky for me.

    You are right about the 12 being unpeated (and amazing) but the 18 is lightly peated, I think it even states the ppm on the bottle. Anyway, agree that is is a very underrated Islay distillery.

    I just found you guys thanks to The Modern Rogue. First thing I looked for on your channel was this video. Bunnahabhain 18 and Tomtoul 16 are two of my favorites. It would be cool if you did some sort of recommendations like "If you like this whisky you might like that whisky" as part of your videos. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work, you have earned yourselfs a new sub.

    I went to my little whisky collecting trip with having Suntory Toki and Ballantine's in mind. Toki I never tried and Ballantines I tasted so long ago, plus I need to buy some cheaper whisky to not spend too much, anyway, I was happy to spot Black Bottle on the bottom shelf as I've been browsing a little.I was about to buy that and the Toki (I'm hella curious about it because I love Hibiki Harmony), then I saw Bunnahabhain 12 with two whisky tasting glasses and decided to spend the few extra bucks just to taste another Islay single malt after Laphroaig 10 and to have those glasses finally so I'm not tasting whisky from highball and rocks glasses..
    In the end I bought Bunna 12 and Toki and Bunna is very nice, I'm 3 pours in and still keep on discovering different notes on the palate. Somehow it keeps changing! Very happy I bought this bottle and next time I visit the liquor store I'll buy a Black Bottle and compare it to this. Thanks for the great recommendations!

    I did some googling on the Black Bottle, and from what I've seen, a lot of people were upset that they changed the formula a while back so that the new blend is no longer all Islay whisky as well as being fruitier and friendlier. I'm still gonna try out a bottle next time I see one in store but I'm curious to you guys' opinion on this.

    • @WhiskeyVault

      I unfortunately didn't get to try the old recipe. But if it's better than what they currently have, the old recipe must have been amazing.

    Never mind I found this. Bunnahabhain 12 Bottling Note. This entry level Bunnahabhain bottling comes in a redesigned bottle. This12 year old is lightly peated for an Islay single malt and consequently is a light, fresh dram. Now at the higher strength of 46.3% - for more complexity and flavour.

    Bunnys use ightly peated malt. Don't think water will remain peated after all the distillation.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому +1

      I totally agree. Compared to most Islay's the peat is invisible, but it is there. Anyone saying they can taste peat in an unpeated whisky doesn't understand how distillation works ;-) But they could be mistaking mineral water flavors for peat.
      Have you tried any of the special edition Bunny's that are aggressively peaty? They're awesome as well.

    Bunnahabhain is my favourite Scotch. I‘ve only got the twelve year old but it‘s amazing. No smoke on the palate at all. Fruity, sweet damn it’s delicious. One day I Need to try the 18y and Daniel That’s just your fault :P

  • @vredehuman5242
    @vredehuman5242 3 роки тому

    sipping on it now very sherry forward with a very spicy burn on the palate but prefer Black bottle it has more smokiness than Bunnahabhain 18 and if I want sherry I'd go Redbreast, being a peathead/smokehead a Laphroaig daily sipper to be precise.

  • @blainerhunt
    @blainerhunt 6 років тому +1

    As much as it pains me to say, Rex was right. The 12 and 18 are both peated. It’s only between 1-3ppm, but it is peated.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  6 років тому

      True. but relatively not compared to the traditional Islay which is why I really love it as a remarkable example

      There is a tiny percentage of peat in that Bunnahabhain. So small that they say "almost unpeated" but technically it's there. Good catch!

  • @TheOriginalRaster

    I tried Bunnahabhain 12, and I was bothered by it's aroma and taste... a sea salty, smell of the sea, maybe decomposing seaweed... (hot, salty garbage?) so, once it popped into my head "it smells like sex" then I couldn't drink it.
    My oldest step son (legal drinking age plus 5) came to visit, I introduced him to dozens of Scotch, etc., and I told him I had one bottle that I couldn't drink. I told him he should try the Bunnahabhain on his own, but I had warned him of my "hidden reason" why I couldn't drink it.
    He said he liked it but he mostly wanted me to fess up with what this "bad smell or taste" was that I didn't like. I admitted then that I thought it smelled like sex. That's when the story got interesting. I didn't expect the next part...
    He said... I know what you mean... you're saying it smells like hot puzzy... oh, ya, I guess he's right. Then he lays into "hey man, I like it!"
    Oh well... I told him he should finish it. He laughed and smirked, and eventually finished it off.
    About my description. Do you guys know what I mean?

    • @TheOriginalRaster
      @TheOriginalRaster 6 років тому
