I will forever believe that Andy Timmons has the best guitar tone that has ever existed.
I can get close on an Egnater, but problem is it's either close for soloing or for rhythm. I can adjust for one or the other. Wish I could get the kind of tone he does going back and forth between the two. There's probably more to it than just the amp though and probably some compression involved which I'm not using.

@@BrandonVMoore1 Depending on the part of the song, he uses different drive stages, compressor on/off, and his pickups are pretty different with the humbucker and the Dimarzio cruzer that is a pseudo single-coil. So basically in order to sound like AT without the exact same setup, you still require a lot of changing. I actually get pretty close with my JCM800 though a ribbon mic profiled into a kemper with a Comp66 in front.

I changed my type of guitar because of Andys playing (i played fast Floyd Rose Guitars for decades).He is one of my biggest influences/inspirations.
My first "Hero" was Uli J. Roth , i was about 10 / 11 years old started to play guitar and listen to a early Scorpions LP and for a long time listening to van Halen ,iron maiden, alcatraz, deep purple because to birthday (11) i got a box with lot of old records.....scorpins,maiden,ac/dc,van halen, alcatraz,metal hammer from 81,deep purple,black sabbath and many more.
Later i listen for a long time to Satriani, than comes dream theater....holy shit....i was flashed....at this point i want to shred :D :D
And one Day i heard cry for you......goosebumps....this tone....this feeling...
All this experiences over 30 years a important to find out "What is my own style, sound, to let go feelings into my guitar playing"

What can I say? Everything Andy writes, composes, plays is just pure musical bliss! The tone, the feel, the phrasing, the spirit...is it April 1st yet?
And improvises! I'm always so impressed that he can improvise over a piece that I love and the improvised version is every bit as good as what's on the studio version.
This is beauty expressed in harmony. It has the most beautiful arpeggio Ive heard on electric guitar. The magic of repeating it and resolving it melodicly on itself. Andy thank you inspire the soul to search for expression on the electric guitar. God bless you. Your sound and emotion phrasing are a force of nature.

Met Andy Timmons at an after party. Danger Danger opened for Alice Cooper in Hollywood so so long ago. Had to be late 80's, maybe early 90's. Nice guy.

AT: Oh yeah, so this is interesting because this is the most consistent part of my signal chain. It’s a Dunlop Jazz III Tortex 1.14mm.
Small stiffy, so to speak! (laughs) It’s weird, it was a guy at the music store I was teaching at when I was in Miami, he just said ‘try this pick!’
I immediately recognised the level of detail I was able to get. It’s got a really fine point at the end, the size didn’t bother me. I greatly prefer the tone of nylon though. For a while there, they made an XL nylon Jazz III for buckethead; he requested them, so that was a thing around 1999 or 2000.
I was using that pick a lot. I even love the tone of a Fender Heavy, but so much of my technique has been developed over the years around this pick that I can’t get the detail and articulation with any other pick. I’m kind of in a way married to this pick.
It is shocking though: if you have not done this when you’re tone questing, just get a jar full of picks. There are massive differences in tone and feel with all of these. "
