Taught myself guitar, bass, piano and some drums and just got myself a violin last night, buzzing to learn
I started with drums, guitar, bass, ukelele, and now I'm working on keyboard and my violin comes in today! I want to learn EVERY instrument I can before I die, haha.
Wow
@@DavidMarksmen1992did you get the basic violin or a more expensive one? How's your learning going?
Also guitar ,mando keyboard player . Dont read music . Play in gigging bands . Just bought a cheap violín to see what I can learn . Total new instrument to me with the exeption of similar tuning to mandolin. Hows you doing with the violín. Seems pretty hard
I just turned 54 and have wanted to play the violin since I was 6. I finally got my first violin and eager to play. Your video is very clear and precise. Thank you for being so helpful! I’m looking forward to watching many more videos by you!
Me too! I'm 54 and have always wanted to play. It's never too late!
Me too

I'm SO STOKED....i wanted violin
When i was 8....im 59 it's my bday 🎂 51 years later WOW
I'm 52 and just got my first violin yesterday too. Great lesson.
Love this do much. I too have wanted to play this and i want so bad..how are you doing
57 and just bought one myself. Had to tune it and did manage to get something not extremely chicken squawkish out of it. 😁I found a note in the pocket about putting rosin on the bow after I tried the downstroke. Oops.
I don't even have a violin yet and still watched the entire video 😅
Same😂
Same here 😂😂
Same 🎉
I played the violin in elementary school, will forever be mad at my child self for dropping it in middle school. Totally hoping to get back into it soon!
Same here. Had to play at a school Christmas program and promised if they made me do it, I'd never pick it up again. Well, now I'm 67 and wish I never quit.

Forest lesson went well, thank you.
I'm a clawhammer banjo player who is finally taking the leap to fiddle. I won't name names, but this was far clearer and more useful than a beginner lesson I watched by another well-known old-time player. Thank you!
I love how he’s Australian and he doesn’t tell people to remember the strings g.d.a.e. As g’day lol
Ha! Yes I wish I’d caught on to that one before making this vid. I’m from New Zealand though 😊
That’s actually how I remember it. 😂
I love how someone who knows what he's talking about comes to criticize another on a training video... 🤣🤣🤣
@@adrianyee6575 what are you talking about
Actually he is from NZ.
I played classical violin for 5 years and put it down for about three. The CALLOUSES oh my goodness I miss them so much right now
I really like how your instructions are clear, it's not too slow, and you add a bit about your personal life like it's a personal lesson, lost of love teach
This is amazing my child gas been playing for 2 weeks and she is already getting much better ♡
The nuances you give and reasoning behind the practice is a gold mine of knowledge.
I was a very amateur guitar player growing up, but the violin has always been my favorite instrument. Your videos are so helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I played cello as a kid and now have an electric violin. This video makes me a lot more confident to play this instrument, thanks George!
Was going try banjo but grandfather threw a fiddle at me and smiled. So with your help hopefully I’ll give him more to smile about. Doesn’t seem as intimidating as I thought. To start anyways. Thank you for your videos.
thank you for the lesson! I just turned 37 years old today, I've wanted to learn to play violin since I was a kid, but for different reasons, I learned guitar instead, my wife gave me my very first violin today and your lesson was great, thank you!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much George you're awesome!
Diving in to the violin starting today.
I have a daughter with Downs she has shown interest in the violin. Her uncle had an old kids beginner violin that he gave us. We had the bow rehaired and got it back today. We have no idea how to handle the violin. I decided to subscribe before you were done with how to hold the bow. If you spend this much time explaining this one thing, I can see you as a capable teacher.
I will be learning violin along with my daughter.
Great video! Got a violin a few months ago but had difficulties setting it up, I finally got it right. Looking forward to following the rest of your vids 👍
Such clear and easy explanations. Thank you George
very good thank you. as a person who plays other string instruments wanting to add the fiddle this what I needed. all the best to you. cheers
Fantastic, thank you George. David
Just starting, I loved the lesson 👏
Have never been an instrument guy by any means, but your video is making it seem much less daunting than I expected! Always have wanted to learn and this is my in. Thanks from Aus!
I have been fortunate enough to have seen George in concert (with an Australian bluegrass band called "The company") and to have been in a jam session with them after the show. Whilst I play other instruments, violin is completely new to me. I will be most happy to learn from George's online lessons.
Thank you so much, I'm a beginner and you have taught me more that anyone I've tried to learn from in person. Looking forward for more.
Awesome George...! I don't even have a violin as of now but I'm already hooked..!! Thank you so much.🎻
I'm following your lessons, you made easy for me to understand, have my daughters fiddle and want to learn! Wish me luck filling you. Thank you
Ronny
This was super helpful! I just started yesterday on the violin, but I didn’t do anything, so I know so much more now! I used to hold the bow on the 2 dots on the end of the bow so that was also very helpful! Thank you!
Tganknyou for your video. It was perfect! I played the violin as a young boy and have always wanted to master it. I have two violins now and with +God's help I am going to accomplish this. Thank you
Great! Thank you for the start!
You are awesome one of best teacher ever I saw…….. thank you so much
This was so helpful and a really good beginners guide, thankyou!
Awesome! Liked it, successfully completed.
Very good for beginners, thanks for the content
i enjoyed this lesson a lot can't wait for the next one
Man... Some simple things just perfectly explained here that just kept eluding my grasp. This has helped me more than anything else so far! Wish I had found it sooner!
Thanks, glad it’s helpful!
@George Jackson I've been a guitarist for 30 years, and the mechanics are so very different. I really have to work on muscle groups I can usually ignore with guitar, and change my grip on the bow naturally (instead of knuckle-dragging the heel like a pick in a muted grip) The wiper stretch alone was like unlocking a new skill! Thanks much!
@@mikec6840 You ain't wrong there, Mike. Am also a guitarist, on rythm. As I mentioned in a comment above...I hope the positions on my mandolin help me somewhat despite holding the violin off my neck...should be fun.
I am well versed in music however i am new to string and bow. It was exciting to watch this video. I am already sounding and looking good.
Thanks! Great lesson!
Excellent instructor and methods presentation.
Loved the soulful violin in all those country songs so much a few days ago I saw a used violin for sale, bought it. Clearly all those musicians have even more talent than I thought. I've adopted a new hobby 😄🤠
Thank you!
Good lesson.
Thank youu so much great easy to understand lesson!!
Hello George, thank you a great first lesson, i am 58 years old, i started learning guitar when i was 7 years old, not a master by any means, but im excited to find your lessons, I usually just try to learn most things by myself but its very nice to be shown properly.
Great video, just good for a complete newby like me. Please do correct me if I'm wrong, but two things I learned before watching this video which I think are worth mentioning: 1) Remember to use rosin or else the bow won´t make a sound :) If the rosin is shinny, use some sand paper to break it before using, it should release powder as you apply it to the bow. 2) Bow pressure on the strings should be minimal, or else sound will be horrible
Got my violin today!!! Thank you so much for this video, I’ve already learned so much 🥹🥹🥰🥰
That's awesome! I'm hoping to get a violin once I've saved enough money. How's learning been going, now that it's been a month for you?
glad you made a louder version of this fiddle lesson. I notice you are using the classical style of holding the fiddle
I gave up in Grammer school after 2 years because my neck hurt so much, I was just told to get used to it. Shoulder rests! what a revelation! I am upset. I wish someone had gotten one for me
Grammar? You went to a grammar school and you just spelt it wrong.
Great teacher
Thank you very much for that! ❤
Loved it clear and very able.ble
Thank you for the lesson! This is perfect for me; i just got a violin today!
Thanks!
It was a good lesson. The violin I used was in tune, thank goodness
Thank you.
Excellent guidence for biginers.

Very nice video.
I haven’t got my fiddle yet but im beginning to learn to prove to my parents im worthy enough of it at least and the way you explain it is so easy to understand! I subscribed and i will try to listen to all your videos!! ❤
Awesome George :D
Powerfull...👍
Subscribed, thank you
BIG LOVE
I have zero knowledge about instruments let alone the violin. But this video made it so easy to learn on my little sister’s violin 😂 thnx so much I look forward to your other vids
I have had my fiddle for 6 months and have made absolutely no progress. This series HELPS!!!
Love you sm
Wish me luck. I went to the music store and just bought a fiddle on a whim today. I used to play the piano as a kid and I remember the notes, but have no clue on a string instrument. Glad I found your videos! I’m going to attempt to let you teach me 😆
Good luck! Hope these vids help 😊
Thank u ❤
You have great acoustics in that room. I play a mandy, and hoping those positions will help me given the tuning is the same.
Thank you, this was my first ever lesson :)
Fantastic! Hope it started you off good.
It helped
This is so cool George. Thank you. 🙂🎻
when i first learned the strings I found "G'Dae", kind of like how an Australian would say it and here I am getting lessons from an Australian
THANK U!!!!❤❤❤🥰🥰😍😍😍…
Hopefully I'll get around to starting to learn to play the Violin, until then I'll be alright with the piano and the electric guitar, I've got a long way to go on both, especially on the guitar. Plus having no frets on the violin is very frightening. The final goal is Vivaldi's "Winter" and "Jhin's Login Theme" from League of Legends, the main theme for Jhin, The Virtuoso.
Well, I managed to break a string. Oops. However, I appreciate your thorough explanation. I found myself asking clarifying questions in my head, and lo and behold, you managed to answer them as if we were having a conversation face to face. Wonderful job anticipating a newbies mistakes. I watched the bow string while doing upward and downward strokes and that seemed to improve my ability to make a clean note. Is this improper? Where shall we look when learning?
Beautiful, thank you so much
Wow simply amazing teaching gradually going to get everything maybe perfect.💐🤗🙏🤷👍💯🧠☝️😴tnku.dear sir.4!🤷👍💯 explanation.see u next class.👍
Thank you so much for this!!! Does anyone have recommendations for a good beginner violin to purchase?
I just made a video that will hopefully help with this question :) ua-cam.com/video/EMh3L_lYFfM/v-deo.html
Would you consider posting a tutorial on how to play Fur Elise ? By Beethoven?
Is it okay to turn it it a lot until there's a gap of is there a chance it will like, break?
According to the android app "tuner & metronome" your A and E strings were tuned about 6 cents too high.
just got done watching episode 1, but how do i know How much resin you apply to the strings? And how do you see where to.put your fingers if your head is facing forward? Just bought a Cecilio electric violin off amazon, and am excited to learn how to play music on it!
Are you happy with that violin?
👍
@georgejacksonmusic what is you violin size?
How much should I invest in my first violin? I am an absolute beginner. Thanks for the video :) I am one step closer to finally starting to learn the instrument.
Here's an overview for buying/ renting your first violin. ua-cam.com/video/EMh3L_lYFfM/v-deo.html
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. My bow stops making a sound about halfway down. 😔
How hard is it to learn Vivaldi summer?
thank you subscribe
im happy
Your my hero
Cuz ....i play bass guitar !!!
This is TOTALLY new TO ME
IM TRUCKERS WIFE ...
he doesn't use utube.
I'm 6strings 😊k.
Why when I play it, when I try playing full bow with the same technique, it isn't making a sound despite having rosin, Is my bow bad or am I doing something wrong..? what could be the possible reasons?
What's fhe song called in the intro?
I'm left handed so I was struggling to get used to holding the bow with my right hand, you said "your bow hand", does that mean that I can switch sides and hold the bow with my left?
A lot of left handed folks play violin the conventional way, in fact your left hand does a lot of the hard work playing “right handed”. However, if it’s just not comfortable and you want to try playing left handed, yes you’d just switch sides so your left hand would become the bow hand rather than the hand putting fingers on the strings. Some left handed fiddlers do teach themselves to play on a right handed strung fiddle, that is the strings are still in order from left to right GDAE. I’d advise against restringing a regular violin left to right EADG as there are generally structural elements such as sound post, bass bar and carving that are set up for the pressure of the strings to go one certain direction. But you can get someone to realign these things for a left handed instrument or find a left handed instrument for sale. So those are your options, good luck!
