+Reckon fun times man. still a little scared to drive with other people on backroads only becase me and my buddy flipped his dads car like 5 times out drifting on gravel but no body got hurt and thay was like 4 years ago by now
celuler22 no that couldn't be anymore wrong to drift as fast as you can you want as little countersteer possible or even a zero counter steer technique power sliding is probably the slowest way to drift
Love Myth Busters but this episode was flawed and bound to fail the moment they decided to do the drifting instead of using a pro. All they proved was that they themselves were insufficient and lacked the skill set and ability to take on the drift myth.
obviously comments 5 years old but the myth itself was flawed from the beginning so it doesn’t matter either way, drifting will never be faster than a decent racing line, that’s why f1 lose pace when they lose even a bit of traction on turns
Just watched a rerun on Discovery Science. The only thing I agree with the guys is that some corners are faster drifting and some are faster racing line, even on gravel. But if Ken Block was driving(his rally car), a combo would be the fastest, full drifting second because of the momentum he could bring out of the corners and clean racing line last because of the momentum he would lose trying not to loose traction. But the Busters are gone for more than five years so no more revisiting 🤷🏻♂️
I remember when i was like 12 i had a 4 speed 800cc go kart that was an offroader and I had a little course through the woods and one time on a left turn I just braked a little and got back hard on the gas earlier than I should have and I started to slide and instinctively turned the wheel to the right and like that I learned how to drift. I got to be great at it but then when I was 20 i flipped a ranger trying to do that at 45 ish mph
So for this test on gravel you should've gotten a real rally driver and not a drift driver. The difference in technique is massive. If you don't believe me you can watch some WRC/normal rally clips and compare it. Isn't that hard to find on YT.
Rally drivers dont pull the brakes through the corners, they solely rely on momentum/power, which brings you to a slide. MUCH faster than trying to avoid slides
I learned to drive 4 months ago, 2 weeks ago drove my first manual, now ive just learned how to do donuts around a gravel roundabout, it's not that hard, Scandinavian flick + clutch kick
+ricki josevski (Rickisgamertag) Scandinavian flicks is something you do before a sharp corner/turn. You shift the weight to the other direction off the turn and then shift it back in the direction off the turn to get your rear end out. It's not close to how drifting works.
drifting on dirt is definitely easier. The lesser coefficient between your tires and the ground makes it easier for you to manipulate and recover from the drift
well its not really drifting on dirt, but more of "sliding" since the car is AWD, then u would use all the momentum of the weight of the car to transfer energy into and out of the corner. which is why the Scandinavian flick is a very useful skill in terms of rally. granted I'm not a rally driver but drifting on dirt doesn't make u faster in the car depending on what type of drive train it is. like RWD
To make this test accurate they need a rally driver to teach him. I bet it's faster. It looked like he drove terrible in the dirt. Stop going off course and stay on the road. Like Jamie was.
they're talking about flipping the car that they were using lmfao, there no way in hell adam would sauce that specific car on this specific course enough to flip it
I think their results were correct in drifting on dirt is the same speed as not drifting. I think the viewers wanted to see actual rally style driving. That would have been faster. I was really surprised they didn't bring in a rally driver as it is a hard skill to learn.
Just grow up in a small town and rip around the backroads that's how I learned
YUP!
+Reckon done it in my caviler then my silverado and now rippin around feilds and backroads in my cherokee.
+Brandon Schumacher Nice
+Brandon Schumacher 86 F150 manual here
+Reckon fun times man. still a little scared to drive with other people on backroads only becase me and my buddy flipped his dads car like 5 times out drifting on gravel but no body got hurt and thay was like 4 years ago by now
Yay that 240 sx at least they got proper drift car
guess they haven't seen rally
+LUNITIC WILL Aren't those all wheel drives?
most of the time, some are RWD or FWD
+This Guy WRC is AWD. Most normal rallyes are either RWD/FWD because it's cheaper.
hmm idk, the best drivers in the world are rally drivers and they drift everything.
Mind you "show" drifting is different from "speed" drifting.
4 wheel drive drifting is different from rear wheel drive drifting. That's the main reason why
dagumi tofuboy
speed drifting is powersliding
Even rear wheel drive drifting or simple sliding into a corner can be faster in low speed situations on dirt
celuler22 no that couldn't be anymore wrong to drift as fast as you can you want as little countersteer possible or even a zero counter steer technique power sliding is probably the slowest way to drift
they might fail the tofu delivery drifting test. Bunta be mad!
take a water cup with you
Adam is like lighting mcqueen when he had yet to master turning left to go right, and the race care driver is like doc hudson. xD :D
Love Myth Busters but this episode was flawed and bound to fail the moment they decided to do the drifting instead of using a pro. All they proved was that they themselves were insufficient and lacked the skill set and ability to take on the drift myth.
And they got a show drifter rather than a rally driver
obviously comments 5 years old but the myth itself was flawed from the beginning so it doesn’t matter either way, drifting will never be faster than a decent racing line, that’s why f1 lose pace when they lose even a bit of traction on turns

there not even drifting they were just ripping the ebrake and called it drifting
Jamie and Adam should continue MythBusters as a UA-cam show!
Where do these guys get their cars? Like damn.
Why is at 1:35 a one wheel in the background?
So for this test on gravel you should've gotten a real rally driver and not a drift driver. The difference in technique is massive. If you don't believe me you can watch some WRC/normal rally clips and compare it. Isn't that hard to find on YT.

Exactly you can go so much faster into a corner when you let it slide and power trough not this gay show drifting
Now try gravel using the same technique and see how fast you do a 360 in the middle of the road.
on gripier dirt i can drift without a handbrake or brake. but when i do use it, its smoother
but i use hand brake
They should have played Eurobeat. Then they'll see the results
I learned to drive 4 months ago, 2 weeks ago drove my first manual, now ive just learned how to do donuts around a gravel roundabout, it's not that hard, Scandinavian flick + clutch kick
That's a clean 240
yeah but drifting on dirt is rally driving scandanavian fliks
+ricki josevski (Rickisgamertag) Scandinavian flicks is something you do before a sharp corner/turn. You shift the weight to the other direction off the turn and then shift it back in the direction off the turn to get your rear end out. It's not close to how drifting works.
u want to test it properly, put 'the stig' vs colin mcrae or something like that. or, do a lap each, of each type. you're comparing apples to oranges.
drifting on dirt is definitely easier. The lesser coefficient between your tires and the ground makes it easier for you to manipulate and recover from the drift
Nice dji inspire 1 used
Its not faster to drift around a corner but its more fun
That's a waste of a 240, then again it probably has the sohc version of the engine
well its not really drifting on dirt, but more of "sliding" since the car is AWD, then u would use all the momentum of the weight of the car to transfer energy into and out of the corner. which is why the Scandinavian flick is a very useful skill in terms of rally. granted I'm not a rally driver but drifting on dirt doesn't make u faster in the car depending on what type of drive train it is. like RWD
This car is rwd. 240sx
XD :/ i figured lol since i forgot im looking at a nissan here. great street car overall though! they should have at least had a subaru impereza
To make this test accurate they need a rally driver to teach him. I bet it's faster. It looked like he drove terrible in the dirt. Stop going off course and stay on the road. Like Jamie was.
they're talking about flipping the car that they were using lmfao, there no way in hell adam would sauce that specific car on this specific course enough to flip it
I love that adam still loves to MAXIMUM DRIFTO
Drifting on dirt.. in other words, rally.
They probably should've used a 5 or 6 point harness instead of 4, it's safer because you won't submarine. That's all I ever use on my racecars.
Still think the asphalt drift episode is inaccurate.
Shouldve tested it on a tight corner with wide road, at a very high speed. Like in group b.
conrad that my name
I think their results were correct in drifting on dirt is the same speed as not drifting. I think the viewers wanted to see actual rally style driving. That would have been faster. I was really surprised they didn't bring in a rally driver as it is a hard skill to learn.
Maybe use a all wheel drive car
clutch kick clutch kick clutch kick, shit whip into it, use weight transfer
is how to drift on dirt.
trust me it makes it way more fun
Didn’t even link a turn ...
?? i drift on gravel every day with my e46 320i?! what thing is this?
This was my car😂😂😂
Are they using a chess timer?
Poor 240s getting crashed
Bruh if you can drift on the road you should be able to drift on dirt easier
Rally drift it, don't modern Japanese drift it, (aka don't brake, accelerate, use an AWD not RR)
They needed Hannu Mikkola, just sayin
look up slip rate and slip angle, the whole concept of this episode fails due to lack of understanding of the basics of the subject matter.
If it was a rear wheel drive U would've slid so much easier
+zappfan The Nissan 240SX that the Mythbusters used is rear wheel drive. Many people who drift use 240SXs.
+CodyGerkenTV1 o never knew that I don't drive Nissan
thats not drifting
matthew lott yes it is
no, its powersliding
matthew lott lmao expert kid needs to teach what drifting is after playing need for speed.
How funny lmao. Still not drifting.
My Brother Is The Best Drifter In Lo Or Relly Hi Speeds All This Are Boys Trying To Learn
that's not drifting.
