What product would you use to clean Kiddie 900-CUAR? The sensor looks pretty exposed and the saucer shaped thing beneath it looks like a dust catcher. I was told by customer support that a vacuum wouldn't really work for cleaning this kind of smoke detector. The person suggested compressed air. I read somewhere that canned air has additives.
I am not going to lie, while the new design is certainly questionable as of recently, I like what Kidde did with the harness. Granted it does make getting it in and out of the unit much more difficult than previously, it's flush, so it hopefully leads to less wire clutter within the backbox, and it also has a tab on the side making it asymmetrical, that is to hold the battery door down, so you have to disconnect 120VAC power to change the batteries, however they already done that with the old harness, so you only get less wire clutter. I think the P4010 does a bad job at keeping minimum backbox intrusion because it has a little hump sticking out the back with a receiving connector coming out of that hump, which takes away backbox space. As I mentioned during the premiere, it seems that Kidde will now make the new designs less practical to save money. Then again Kidde hasn't been the greatest anyway.
I’m just glad I don’t have these in my house because knowing these love to have false alarms and how much false alarms annoy me ESPECIALLY at night and in the morning I would probably be returning them and going to complete different models.
Can anyone help with a link on how to actually install this model? Everyone only reviews it or shows set up.... where's the actual installation? Please help.
It's just like installing any other hardwired smoke alarm. Screw on the new mounting bracket, connect the wire harness to the house power and then to the unit, remember to turn off the power, then install the unit, turn on the power, and then test.
@@Photoelectric_Elevators I’ve never installed a smoke detector before. I’m a visual learner. That’s why I come to UA-cam for video instructions. Thank you for responding to my question. ☺️
Personally I don’t mind the redesign, but I don’t think the sensor should be so exposed without some sort of bug cover. Like even a mesh would do the trick. I got one of those new first alert talking ones, (can’t find the model rn) and even the sensor inside the casing has a mesh. But honestly I’d prefer this one over something like the kn cosm iba just because of the photoelectric smoke sensor, but this new wire connector is awful. I’d like to pick one of these up sometime
Fun fact: Kidde Discontinued their 900-CUARs. The new IBA replacement has a truesene voice. That also somewhat added a bug grille. the model is 30CUAR-V.
I do find the new design of this very strange and if I'm being honest I much prefer the older design, but I don't understand why they havent considerd using a bug grill especially with the grill sticking out of the detector. I was also very surprised to see the conector they had used as I never seen anything like it but in my opinion I prefer just having the traditional style connector and I'm confused by the fact why it doesn't have voice either. Either way in my opinion I still prefer the old alarm as it is alot better than this new model
I just recently found a video of the 900 CUAR V, ua-cam.com/video/L0fQGpuxTn0/v-deo.html, it even has the 2010+ voice still, probably the only positive thing to come from such a weird unit
Idgaf about the design, but this lil b*tch goes off not every night at the same time but most? No smoke in the house. I occassionally crack My bedroom window open just a tiny bit, and that is the one going off, none of the rest in the unit. It's the four beeps, pause, 4 beeps. Absolutely nothing happening. We live in townhomes, not even management or anyone reacts.i am thinking I need to get a totally separate CO monitor. Not sure of electrical surges but there MUST be something because we are not the only unit this happens in. During the summer it happened multiple times, and that IS the room it get hottest I'm, and we do live in humid ass MN. We've heard these alarms going off in completely empty units. None of our units has central Ac, all are 2 story, with only one slot in one of the upstairs bedrooms for through the wall ac units, which run over 600$ anywhere I've looked closely, unless ypu have a standing one. I've never had this issue before in the winter, since they've downgraded to this 900 cuar unit. It's frustrating because they ate 'required',, buy if there's no fire and ypu contact management they are always 'out of town or unavailable, or send the 'maintenance man' who actually is just one of two jobless dudes that the manager knows or is married to. Wondering if they only care about doing the due diligence to get paid and don't care at all if there is actually carbon monoxide, electrical surges, or whatever it is they try to blane on tenants. I've just started using compressed air to try to blow around it; since it does tend to get dusty af, even though we try to open windows and dust when it gets noticeable quickly. None of the sessions dusting days have set off alarms. It's just getting more frequent, like it did in the summer, before they installed this older unit, and someday it'll just start and won't quit for hours, like has happened before. Perhaps are the hard wired units connected to the apartments on either side of us? We have a quiet family on one side, and a young woman who is hardly home on the other, both are 420 friendly cuz we can just tell, bit not very often, and no one in my unit is, or smokes cigs inside at all. I'm really at my wits end. I don't know what to do, except perhaps follow videos advice saying to leave the apartment and call the fire department. Perhaps management will be inclined to take action if we do so?
@@bell6dandy564 same happens to me. I have 9 of these . 2 of them go off randomly at night and there is no fire or smoke or change in temperature. Fucking frustrated
@@mnsweeps I actually had SO MANY ISSUES that I finally, against all good judgement, just 2 weeks ago, took the unit out of my bedroom. My young daughter was so seriously scared of hearing it again that she had developed sleep problems. I won't describe, but it hurt my heart. Management gave zero effort despite numerous videos and much evidence. We will be out of these townhomes before Halloween. I love this area so much. I wanted to stay here for at least another 2 or 3 years. The smoke alarm is NOT the whole reason, but the straw that broke the camels back.
@lookout_gamer127notjustlookout its not only that. the performance is awful. Also the hush button doesn't seem to work as it was tested in this video. also the alarm just looks ugly
What was your old one? It IS compatible base with many Kidde. You dont even tell us the OLD one's model. This is a useless video. Press it to get the flange under the lip to rotate. Worthless video. I cant watch this drivel anymore. It is a voice alarm, according to Kidde. Your prep for this video is subpar. I have to stop it.
This is not a full in depth review video, also you can force the unit on the old base, but the wire harness still sucks. Also the "old" model was advertised by kidde themselves. You need to be on track more instead of being insecure.
After watching so many videos, I finally found this one that helped us remove this smoke detector from the power wires at 04:01! Thank you so much!
Not a huge fan of this device, but why is Kidde moving backwards?
Is this supposed to be the KN-COSM-IB as well? Mine just hit 11 years and now needs replacing
Yea just...literally do *ANYTHING* that's not a CUAR...
Replace your IB with a P4010 if possible
On the website they are still selling the KN-COSM-IBA
Understandable. They just said it was a “new look” so I consider this the replacement model. I did a lot of comparisons to the KN-COSM-IBA
And the Kidde logo got a redesign
The voice got ripped out 😭
@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n I am actually having the 900-CAUR-V delivered tomorrow too!
Just updated my old ones. Got 5 of them and they don't interconnect. How would you suggest to go about interconnecting five?

Compressed air is your only valid option. That's what I typically do

@MoogleFanCreationsKidde is finally selling adapters for the CUAR, but why… this is a bad sign for the company…
It sound like the P3010K-CO

It's fine in performance but the Hush button appears to not work.

well except, it's photoelectric
So it's more of a COPE-IC replacement lol

This is not the first time they neglected the bug grill...
This alarm actually did come with a voice. It’s just a different alarm.
(900-cuar-V
This alarm had so much potential. Guys just get the IBA’s before they’re gone lol
There has been quite a bit of minor changes of this alarm since this video was published.
Clearly Kidde released an unfinished product at that time
Also, my only IBA expires in December :(
I hate that kidde discontinued all of their KN series, the regular P4010s, P3010s, and anything that's not their new models
I’m kind of sad that they changed the design
I understand that.
Me too
Same 😢
What mind boggles me is that this brand new device does not have a working hush button.
Mine does
I uploaded a video in response to the redign.
ua-cam.com/video/wT-VwbbUtYk/v-deo.html
And I was like “Kidde!! Why did you kill the kn cosm iba!!!?? It was our good alarm!!”
I hate this design, what is the best alternative??
Snatch some first alert
Looks like a hybrid of a First Alert SA67B and a BRK 2002RAC
I see that, however it won't be unseen unless it's not remembered.
You gotta know the difference sir if which one has a voice
900-CUAR: No voice
900-CUAR-V: Yes voice
I know the difference bruh. I got this as soon as it came out. And the one with voice came after this video was posted.
He's not dumb bro
I know that
It looks like the ones in fire alarm systems!
Oddly enough, the new ones fit on my old bases…… keep trying, it’ll work
The reason why they changed the harness is because it snaps so easily
there is literally no aesthetic that can fit the design of that new smoke alarm
What a disappointment! I can’t even explain the features we lost for this crap. Kidde is slowly becoming a P3010 of their own.

New smoke detector hobby. My guess is they went with cheaper material and a cheaper voice recording system

this looks pretty ugly because it looks like its from the 80s or 90s
