Season 22 was a rough time for South Park. They tried to push the limits to see if they could be cancelled, but it obviously didn't work, and they just removed characters like Mr Hankey and Satan for ultimately no reason
Tbf Mr.Hankey is a talking shit, he is a gag. Which is something Matt and Trey have bitched about when talking about Family Guy that gag characters and random gags just aren't funny or atleast aren't funny for long.
The Replaced Mr. Hankey as a shot at the Simpsons for replacing Apu for being racist. The episode is called "The Problem with a poo" in response to some article written by an offended snowflake called "The Problem with Apu"
I was 10 years old when South Park first aired. My parents didn’t like me watching it but I did it anyway. When they saw the episode Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo, they came across some of the clips from the episode that included Cartman singing “Kyle’s Mum is a B*tch” and the Mr Hankey Craft Set Advert and they were laughing their heads off.
I found a used copy of that album on Amazon a few days after "A Problem with a Poo" aired and bought it (along with a replacement of the Chef Aid album, the explicit version, because dickhead in high school tried to put a staple through my disc when I walked away from my CD player). I didn't even know there was an album version of the episode "Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics". I don't even wait for Christmas time to listen to it, I play it year round.
The episode were cancel culture was attacking mr Hankey and Kyle was defending him was too real. Especially today. "You can't defend friends in 2018" 2023 is way worse.
The scene where Santa finds out how the town treated Mr Hankey and tells everyone to go f themselves themselves is amazing. The only problem is that he didn’t spend more time ripping into those self righteous assholes.
And then he returns with a vengeance in south park: snow day, Mr Hankey casts a neverending blizzard with dark matter, and as the main antagonist, in the end, Mr Hankey is defeated by Cartman, Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and the new kid, and they forgive him even after Mr Hankey got cancelled
I may not be a fan of Mr.Hankey in the early Seasons of South Park but he warmed up to me after the first episode despite of his cancelation it felt bitter sweet of how he was written off of the show
OMG!! The Circle of Poo song put me off burgers for three years 😂😂 Then my best mate borrowed the video and told me when his mum asked him if he wanted burgers for dinner while he was watching that episode his reaction was: “Erm… No.”
I can't confirm this, so take it with a grain of salt, I think Matt and Trey believed that the fans hated Mr. Hanky. According to TV Tropes (again, grain of salt), Mr Hanky is viewed as The Scrappy (here in meaning a character that inspired a large amount of unintended hatred by the audience) by a not insubstantial number of fans. This might explain the bitter send off.
Red Sleigh Down will always be my favorite South Park Christmas episode seeing Mr.Hankey and the Boys and Jesus saving Santa and being home for Christmas and it was magical EPIC and Whimsical
I'm disappointed that the Simpsons didn't reciprocate by actually putting Mr. Hankey in an episode. They would have been the show to do that, and it's a shame they didn't.
I never realized that was his goodbye seen forever my heart sunk I have a hanky hat it's sadly smashed from something years ago but it'd got hanky on it under the bill says howdy ho it's trashed but I couldnt throw it away 😢
That's when upu know you've peaked , love Mr hanky. Shouldn't have known this character existed but my mother didn't know south Park was for adults until 3 years in . She actually bought me my vhs copy of the movie when I was 10 as a kind gesture for helping with my baby sister. Some people might think of literal shit but Mr hanky brings back those golden family moments for me and what a laugh we all had xxx
Out of all the things you brought up, I’m surprised you didn’t mention that the crew apparently addressed people’s feelings about the dismissal of Mr. Hankey in the Amazon arc. Remember when Santa comes to help, only to leave in a huff when he finds out they kicked Mr. Hankey out because “he tweeted some inappropriate things”.
I never understood why Matt and Trey hated the first 3 seasons so much. I go back to them all the time and they're hilarious. Much better than their stuff in recent years.
Imagine if instead of doing COVID in the pandemic specials they did a pod people parody with the Noro virus with the townsfolk of South Park all becoming like Mr. Hankey.
One time a while back I was working till almost 3 in the morning in a Kitchen and had to do the cleanup as the janitors no showed and we got the job dropped on us (that was a 14 hour day for me) we were so exhausted near the end we started singing random songs from TV, I ended up singing "Kyle's Mon is a B word" in a Cartman voice and got everyone laughing. Apparently I was a bit too loud as the Night Manager came out and was pretty angry. Unfortunately for me I was so out of it due to being tired and angry from the long shift I just went full Cartman on him, thankfully he just started laughing.
I’m watching this after the twist in the South Park Snow Day game and it might seem like Mr Hankey can come back to the main series, but giving the rating for the game, they might not…
When I was over in Japan when I was serving in the military they really get into a lot of toilet humor over there. I mean they have a whole museum dedicated to💩
Since nostalgia bait has become more common in media as of late, South Park could satirize this trend by bringing Mr Hankey back in an upcoming season or special episode.
The best part of the episode "The Problem With A Poo" was when Santa asked where Mr. Hankey was and the people of South Park explained the situation. The reaction of Santa was great.
It's not like he was my favourite character ever or anything, but I also didn't like the way Mr. Hankey left the show. I like that he was a beam of sunshine in a pretty dark show, even if he was an anthropomorphic turd. I'd honestly wished they'd have made fun of Roseanne directly like they did some other celebrities, rather than sacrificing one of their own characters. I would be OK with Mr. Hankey coming back for Christmas-themed episodes, but I miss Satan a lot more than I miss him.
I’ve never seen a single episode of South Park, so I have absolutely nothing to add to this video in the comments, but I’m always happy to support you. Great job as always, Lydia!
It's funny how I started watching southpark from the beginning and I was 9, and I thought all the episode centric commercials were in fact real commercials
I discovered the Christmas album when I was like 9 or 10 my sister has the CD an left it when she moved out ❤I play the album every year just realized I haven't played it at all this December I'm gonna play it rn 😊
I think they could have added something about how it feels when someone you have looked up to your whole live suddenly turns out to be a massive piece of poop.
13:19 Yeah, Mr. Hankey had, in fact, nobody and nothing to blame but himself. But, I really hate to say this, I feel for his own moral shortcomings as a character. His behaviors had gone completely and totally out of perspective, and therefore should have taken fullest accountability for his own X(Twitter) posts(Tweets) while he had the chance.😢😢😢
Mr. Hankey wasn't cancelled. He aged out. Just like Big Gay Al and the bus driver lady. They'll always be loved, but the show doesn't need them right now. A crossover with Rick & Morty for a Mr. Poopy Butthole vs. Mr. Hankey special, though? Greenlight that shit.
It's incredibly sad and shows how out of touch these guys are with their fan base. I remember seeing the very first episode, the very first time it ever played. The controversy and hype wave that followed is something I've never seen since. A year and half later, South Park was everywhere! Everyone had the merch, was quoting, and talking about it. It changed the world from school yards to adults in offices. It is a fact that without those original seasons, there would be no South Park. If they made a show like the one they have nowadays back then. It wouldn't have been half as big as it is now. I'm not saying the new stuff isn't good. But it they are seriously underplaying how important those first seasons were.
I've rewatched the early seasons a few years ago. The only disagreement I have is with Season 3, which did start off more of the same but gradually improved, especially after the movie's release. Seasons 1 & 2, though, are products of their time. Not much of it is witty or coherent, and the one-dimensional characterisation is hard to ignore. Season 1 I'll cut some slack since everything has to start somewhere, but Season 2 is just an uninspired rehash with very few good episodes and an over reliance on gimmicks like catchphrases. Are they important? Yes. It's hard not to respect them for everything they've done. But in terms of what makes for engaging animation, they don't stack up much.
@@staringcorgi6475 Not a good idea to erase them though as he wants. If he did it it will make some things missing, like continuity from those seasons. No id rather protect my season 1, 2 & 3 DVDs from being erased.
