Got the 9 mm, 209, and 309. I use mine for surf fishing here in the gulf coast. These reels are work horses and I was told by a fishing guide on an bay fishing party boat they are not made for casting. Nonsense I thought to myself, I cast mine all the time. It's important to fine tune it before going fishing. Great info by the way.
Absolutely. The 209, 309 and senator models are probably the best lasting conventional reels for the price in the market. Unbelievable how many applications you can use them for and we are glad you found our video helpful!
It's a tank. But reels in like 14" per turn, super slow. Very snag prone since it's slow. With 1 ounce or more of weight I can cast my 209 50+ yards. They can chuck it.

I have the 9 m great reel
Thanks for the great review just won a vintage 209 on eBay ! Can’t wait !
Sweet! Hopefully you get to land some giants on it!
I have a 309 and took it with me vacationing in Louisiana and I caught some 20lb red drums in the surf and some large sail top catfish as well.
I feel I could've caught them even on a 209 because with the 309 I felt at no given moment I was not in control with the reel
For the price it is an incredible buy. Very versatile and so easy to get parts to repair.
@@JKFishingYt I can agree on that. The design and schematics are so simple as well, that even a novice can figure out how to fix it
Exactly. Not the most innovative by any means but simple
Looks good ware did you get your reel from I am looking for one thanks
Got ours from Canadian tire but you can also get them from places like penns website and even eBay
I got both of my older ones off EBay, last one was 23 US dollars and shipping.
Wow that’s a steal...nice!
Just bought a new 309 m love it still looking for the 209 m thanks great job on the video thanks
Hi great video I have a Penn 9 m level wind reel I took off the level wind man it casts way better
Nice!

Great reel for the price but we’ve never run into a problem with the low gear ratio as we use them for trolling.
@@JKFishingYtyea they'll last forever.
Do u have any spare vintage pen fishing reel 209 please
I bought 1 at Walmart a few years ago for $50. Mine might have been the 309 though.
Got to find them when they go on sale, and when you can, those 2,3 and 409’s are a steal
