A quick(ish) unboxing and first impressions video about the new Formula V2.5 X Clubsport wheel from Fanatec. In the video I refer to it as the V2, because that's what it said on the box, but according to their website it's known as the V2.5 X. This also covers the QR1 which is included with the rim.
This video is not sponsored by Fanatec.

I got this wheel last week, love it. Took me about 4 hours to get working though, multiple firmware deletes, reinstalls, couldn't figure out why it wasn't recognised on my CSL Elite wheel base. 4 hours later, finally realised I hadn't got the wheel pushed in hard enough on my wheel base. 😂😂
happened to me the first time too lo
So you have this wheel with the CSL Elite Wheel base and it does work for PC??? Just wondering because i might get it and want to make sure it works on PC and Xbox.
@@Atlas_1216 Yeah it works on all three platforms. You won't get full functionality on Xbox though, can only map 12 buttons and the rev lights won't work.
Thinking on buying this wheel, I have the CSL elite wheelbase also. Do you need any additional hardware to connect the wheel to the base, my original wheel just has a screw to attach it with no quick release? Does the quick release that’s shipped work with the CSL elite wheel base? Cheers :)
@@stevoppl Yeah you get a quick release that attaches to the wheel mate, it just slots on the CSL Elite shaft. It has a screw too, but I don't use the screw as it's secure enough with the quick release. It's my favourite wheel, feels real premium, is a big step up from the cheaper wheels.
Quick note: The joystick on the right is the Funkyswitch and the the knob on top of it rotates around as well.
Great unboxing and review, really liked it!
Didn't realise it rotated too! makes sense really as the funky switch on my other wheel has the same functionality. Thanks for update 👍
@@JimVR no problem 👍
I went from a TX with a 599 EVO wheel to a DD2 and this wheel. Holy shit the difference. You get what you pay for. Only thing that was weird to me was the left analog stick won't map left, up, right, down. I tried switching the maps in ACC (look direction) from the right analog to the left but it wouldn't register them. And the RPMs and screen don't work with xbox but that's on Microsoft's end not Fanatec. You will rotate the rotaries by mistake when correcting a driving error but they don't register more than 1 "click" per second usually, at least it only seems to go up/down 1 in ACC (I have TC and ABS toggle mapped to those)
Nice unboxing mate, and a really nice rim!👌
I have the old Formula black and really liking it.👍
Can't wait to try this thing out, thanks for watching buddy
I just wish the buttons were back lid, there’s plenty of room, it make’s it hard at night
Good to know that it doesn't come with the longer paddles that normally come with the magnetic shifter module. Makes sense that it wouldn't, but I was hoping it would have the full kit alongside it. I'll be moving my APM onto this for clutch bite point, and the regular magnetic shifter over to my current podium hub. Just was wishing I could swap out for the paddles without `-` and `+` punched through them since I find that rather useless and almost tacky.
Anyhow, I personally prefer as many buttons as I can pack onto the wheel as possible specifically for VR since I want to be able to control absolutely everything without groping about for my mini keyboard; interesting to hear an opposing opinion!
I got mine the other day too. Haven't used mine either because I have no wheel base. I'll be first in line for the DD Pro. So basically I'm air-driving like a mad man with full sound effects for the next couple months at least. Haven't lost a race yet though ;)
🤣 nice, it's hard to stay consistent when air driving so you're doing well!
@@JimVR Where can a I get a set of those stubby carbon fiber paddles? I'd like to replace the stock aluminum paddles.
@@smokingrubber I had them with the Clubsport magnetic shifter upgrade that I brought for my GT rim, it came with long and short paddles to chose from. I used the long ones on my gt rim so I had the short ones spare.
Thanks for the unboxing. I'm glancing a bit at this rim, but as I have the McLaren there are other things with higher priority :-) I'm looking forward to see a review video of this one.
Get well mt :-)
Thanks mate, can't wait to try this out
Atm i use the rift s for iracing and ive just ordered this wheel with the csl dd bundle and im moving to triple screens purely so i can use ALL the buttons as well as a button box or two, vr is fantastic fun and really immersive but to get the full potential of sim racing then them darn buttons are important and help massively for the win....!
How does this work? This wheel is for PC, PS, and Xbox. But you have the xbox buttons. I use PS. And have Square, circle, triangle and x, etc......
"remove with care" proceeds to rip the sticker off, (fortunately without ripping the sticker apart ;) )
Well I've had my eye on this rim over the last few weeks, be interested to see how you get on with it in VR. Also get well soon fella.
hi im just wondering if you get a quick release for free when you buy the wheel cause i bought a whole setup and it says that its free but sometimes it says i dont get it with
I have some questions about the Formula v2.5, would you give me an answer?
1. Does it come with a quick release adapter?
2. Do I need an adapter to use it on DD Pro?
Thanks
It ships with a quick release that mounts to the DD 1, 2 and CSL bases. I have no info about the DD Pro, you'll have to have a look on fanatec site and see if it accepts different rims, and if it does, what interface it has
Hey jim just want to say thanks for showing this off got this bad boy on order myself :D Got this the v2 version thats now the x thats seriously cool to play f1 on xbox do league racing with it the new dd base 8nm one the new pedals also along with the advanced paddle module ive gone for never owned fanatec gear before so really excited to get it all was concerned not getting the qr1 version with it but youve cleared that up thanks for that too Question though am in the uk So do you know how much the shipping cost thing is due to brexit with it coming from germany again first time ordering from abroad since brexit has happened so not sure what the process is ? or is it payed with in the order its self
Glad you found the video helpful, I had to pay £71 import charge to UPS, but fanatec only billed me £290 for the wheel, so with the currency conversion it came in around £369 in total
@@JimVR oooof thats expensive for the import but thats good to know do you get an email or anything when the order is gonna be shipped by ups ?
This comment is quite a bit after your but do the lights work on xbox?
@@speedymandawidrev lights don’t work on xbox
@@aapotoxinn heard they're making a SDK for Xbox now so games from now on should have the lights functions
Doesn’t it include a quick release??
I bought that wheel and pedals from fanatec paid £ 88.25 import VAT £12.20 freight, total £98.45, rediculous.😮
Hi! I was just wondering how you attach that wheel straight to the base without quickrelease -system? Or is quickrelease mandatory? Thanks!
You can't attach without the quick release, but it's included for free when you buy the wheel, it just ships as a separate unit
@@JimVR Okay, Thank You very much and have a nice weekend!
Are the bottom caps removable? As far as XBOX logos, etc…
All caps are removable
Hi, great video.will this wheel work with the dd1 wheel base
Yep I have a DD1 and it works fine
And do you know what's the best wheel for Forza horizon and need for speed from fanatec?
@@JimVR and do all wheels come with a shifter
@@naasirmahomed no idea about those titles, never play them. Some wheels like this one have shifters installed, others are just the rim and you'll need to pair it with a clubsport or podium hub. Fanatec website is pretty clear as to what comes with what
If you don't mind could you tell me how much the import duty was? I've just done an order from Fanatec for the Clubsport V3 pedals which should be a similar price to your V2.5 wheel and I can't find clear answer to how much I should expect the import duty to be.
Was about £71. Ended up paying 298 for the wheel so I dont think fanatec charged me shipping themselves, I had to pay the 71 to UPS, it was itemized as import charges and govenrment fees
@@JimVR Ahh okay, that’s not as bad as I thought. The majority of that £71 is VAT which isn't paid at checkout so they're not screwing us over too bad. Thanks for letting me know, that’s a big help.
I'm assuming it's the exact same wheel as the club sport v2 except this is x box compatable too?
More or less, except the 2.5 comes with clubsport magnetic shifters pre-installed
@@JimVR sorry Jim,I meant to say the same as the 2.5 wheel,so exact same except the x is obviously x box compatable
Umm the old one had a removable QR as well so basically only new is the grips and paddles
Quite right, thanks for the correction
plus its 20£ cheaper than the old one
Ohh i am itching. A lot of cash. But. but but but. Soon. Thanks for the video.
Can you change the Xbox button cap? Im playing on playstation
Yes all the button caps come off
I have the 2.5 and it comes attached with the QD. wonder what changed between 2.5 and 2.5X
The only thing difference is the 2.5 comes with the magnetic shift vs the mechanical shifters. The computer still reads it as V2.0
@@marioslrzn ahh okay but its just the magnetic shifter and not the advanced paddle module correct?
@@RahulJC It doesn’t come with the podium shifters, it’s only one magnetic shifter on each side, you would need to buy the podium to get the 3 shifters. If you’re console I prefer the one shifter since consoles only read one shifter and you can’t program the others, they’re useless basically
@@marioslrzn I own the V2.5 and I have the advance podium shifters. I was just curious what the 2.5X is
The 2.5X is XBox compatible with alcantara grips, the 2.5 is not XBox compatible and has leather grips
This is not the V2.5 X! Look at the boxes. The shipping box and the shelf box say V2 X! In the title you say, it‘s the V2.5 X though....
In the video you even say, you have the V2 X. But the x doenst stand for the updated version. Thats just the xbox compatible wheel. The V2.5 is the one with the actual upgrades over the V2
Edit: Nevermind. It‘s a V2.5 but shipped in the old boxes...
It is the 2.5X it says so on the wheel itself, if you look at around 14:02 into the video I point it out. Also the fanatec site lists it as the 2.5X as well as my order details. The boxes however don't, which is a little confusing but I suspect they're just shipping them in the original product boxes. Either way this is the upgraded version as it comes with the clubsport mag shifters as standard.
You are right. Didnt watch that part of the video. I was a bit confused, because you talked about the right upgrades between V2 and V2.5, but the boxes clearly said V2. Sorry for that...
@@evo6259 No worries buddy, I was confused when I first saw the boxes too, thought they'd shipped me the wrong thing at first, and at the time I wasn't too sure what was going on with the website either as they took the took the wheel off for a few days when they were switching to the new version, so for a short time the numbers didn't make sense!
How much did you get stung for import charges?
£71 bah. But the wheel seemed to come in a bit cheaper at £298
@@JimVR how much did you pay in total; the wheel, shipping costs, import charges etc
@@alexboulger4638 £369 in total.
@@JimVR so no shipping costs?
@@alexboulger4638 Doesn't seem so, I was charged £290 for the wheel, plus £8 currecy conversion, plus £71 import charge
why does it say 2X if it's 2.5X ?
Dunno, but my guess is they hadn't updated their shipping boxes at the time I ordered it
@@JimVR oh okay! Yeah ‘cause I think the 2.5x comes with a different saying, ‘if everything seems under control you’re not going fast enough’ something like this instead of what’s behind you doesn’t matter. I hope you actually got the 2.5x and not 2x by mistake 🤞🏻
@@rishrathi3512 Yeah it's the 2.5x, it says so on the wheel itself, and it shipped with the mag shifters attached. I ordered this the same day it hit their website so I'm thinking they launched it before updating their packaging, or just stuck it in the wrong box, lol
dont know why im torturing myself watching this with a broken g29
Got the non x variant coming next week or so... Not looking forward to the import duties...
