Yoongi got into an accident before their debut and broke his shoulder, when he was working as a delivery driver. This is why we see him repeatedly get into a crash in this music video. For fear of Big Hit kicking him out of the company, Yoongi didn’t tell anyone about his shoulder. I’m pretty sure that he didn’t go to the hospital, or he did but he wasn’t able to pay for it as his family was suffering from financial problems at the time. He finally got surgery for his shoulder in 2020 so he was on hiatus during Life Goes On promotions. I can’t imagine how he went through training, dancing everyday and doing complex routines with the pain. He deserves the world🥺🫶
He had injections in his shoulder for years, and we also saw him wearing a brace before performances. I think he said it was the Black Swan choreography which finally made him get the surgery.
I think it was a torn labrum not a broken shoulder but it was a very painful, injury and serious enough to prevent him going on active service despite corrective surgery.
the last scene of the mv is heartwrenching. He tried to reach the door but failed. on his very last day of his world tour last year he performed in Seoul. The last scene, after he said goodbye, was exactly this door, they recreated this scene of Amygdala on stage. Yoongi opened the door, turned around, smiled and went off. I think all of us were in tears. What a moment.
I remember the first time I heard that song it hit me so hard and once I read the lyrics I sobbed. Felt seen and I can honestly say that made me army coz from there I did a deep dive
@@RoseOfGrace78 Same thing happened to me with First Love. My first album was Wings, I was just listening to it on through and then First Love came on. I had it on repeat for hours. I'd been in therapy for years for trauma, but his music was the first time I was able to face those emotions in a healthy, non destructive way.
I love how you call him 'this kid' like there arent just a few years between you. Very sweet. I've been really enjoying your reactions! Looking forward to more
Honestly, I had the same reaction you did. Fortunately I knew about some of his struggles already so, I didn't cry. I agree with what my fellow ARMY's have said. The strength, perseverance, and mental fortitude that Yoongi has is amazing. He continued to practice, learn new routines, etc. with that shoulder injury and didn't say anything. He is truly amazing.
The part in the MV where we see him cutting his face, is a reference to the eye scar he has in Daechwita and Haegeum. So AMYGDALA is actually a prequel. Yoongi had an accident when he was a trainee. He was working as a delivery driver to pay for his tuition and had a car accident which damaged his shoulder. He was afraid to tell BigHit in case they sent him away. He told the other members that he fell down the stairs. He couldn’t afford to have the surgery needed to fix it. He eventually had surgery in 2020 to correct the damage but for years he had terrible pain and would often suffer during performances with intense choreography. Mama and Papa Yoongi are still around thankfully despite the health issues outlined in the song. For more emotional Yoongi songs I recommend: The Last Snooze (feat. Woosung and Ryuichi Sakamoto) He’s very introspective and raw. If you want emotions, Yoongi is the guy! ☺️
There are a few reasons why this video only has 12M views on YT. 1. YT is well known for filtering the streams of ALL BTS songs. 2. This video is hard to watch. Most ARMYs cried while watching this video for the first time. Yoongi’s willingness to share such private aspects of his life for the first time (such as his mom’s heart surgery and his dad getting diagnosed with liver cancer) was so shocking and heart wrenching. The trauma of his accident was shown here to its full extent and how it really affected him. I was fortunate enough to have watched his concert in Singapore last year, and it was so emotional. The most profound moment we all shared was during the final concert, when he finally walked through that door, signifying his healing. I bawled my eyes out when that happened. 😭😭😭
One more thing to add 3. It has a “content warning” on it which makes it harder to stream & younger ppl can’t watch it & some ARMY couldn’t watch it due to their own personal backgrounds.
I agree. This MV is triggering. It brings embedded memories out and you know exactly how it feels to have those repressed memories out in raw. It's a hard watch for me. But I love this song. And I'm so in awe he is able to explore his pain like this. I feel really seen. Thanks yoongi 💜
I'm 54 year old ARMY from NZ. Yoongi is my bias. I rarely watch the video or listen to the song because it hurts me. It's so traumatic and we all know that Yoongi endured pain for years. We are also acutely aware of his struggles with mental health and depression. He is so loved and appreciated that it's hard for me and for ARMY to know how much he suffered. It's portrayed in such a beautifully tragic way, that it's quite heartbreaking. But we're also grateful of the trust he has in ARMY to embrace it. Genius.
Thanks for sharing, i feel exactly the same way which is why i haven't watched Amygdala more than a few times. It hurts. But I'm so grateful to him for sharing this with us so openly. 9:45
Cutting his eye is how he got the scar in Daechwita and Haegeum, which is how the trilogy all fits together. Basically, his way of handling trauma led to the creation of Agust D, where a lot of his earlier music was full of rage and pain (The Last for example. A hard listen but great insight into his past).
Yoongi has been through a lot and has always been open about it in his lyrics. He has some songs that make it very clear how he struggled with mental health in the past and tries to comfort others that might be going through similar situations too. He was assumed to be cold and rude even a few years ago but he has now accepted all of the things in his past and now is often seen as a chill, sweet, warm and comforting person. He talks about how his personality and even mental health changed over the time and discusses about the journey of his emotions frequently.
Amygdala is the part of the brain that stocks our memory, in this song, the room is that part of him The trilogy is just parts of him dying and being killed. Even tho the others were “supposed to die”, like the emperor who terrorised people (his fame) and the police officer (who was like shackles to him). But this last one, it’s an accidental death. He tried to save himself from his amygdala (that contained all his memory, his past suic*dal thoughts, his accident where he injured his shoulder and couldn’t tell anyone, his mom and dad being sick etc). He tried to save this part of him, before it would turn into something he couldn’t control. But he couldn’t. Sometimes I feel like the emperor agust d and the police officer (in Haegeum) are just what remains of his hurt self.
[Edit: See kabazinga's comment below for better details.] The "accident he couldn't mention" is shown in the music video. In 2012 when the BTS members were still just trainees, Yoongi was doing bike deliveries on the side to make ends meet. He was hit by a car, almost run over, and his shoulder was injured terribly (torn labrum). If I remember correctly, Yoongi couldn't afford to have the injury treated and he was worried that if he told the company about it, they would cut him from the team. (Big Hit was just a small company back then.) When the company found out they offered to help. He finally received the surgery he needed in November of 2020. 💜
I remember when I first watched the MV it was so tough to visualise all the pain he went through over the years. We all knew about his shoulder injury but the fact that he had to put off the surgery for 8 years due to his schedules and other reasons made it even more heartbreaking. The MV shows how much he fought mentally with all his personal and family issues but he is a champion for winning at the end and overcoming most of his traumas through his music and creations. I really hope he feels at peace now. And the fact that this MV has lesser views might be because it was the 3rd MV from the album and this video has viewers discretion cause of the self harming scenes. It is also tough for us to rewatch the MV and see him go through such pain.
I can see the video only having 12 million views because it is a sad, emotional song that some people might struggle to watch. I can generally listen to this song without much problem, but watching the mv makes me cry.
True - it's emotionally intense, and not something you can "happily" listen to on a loop. The MV also has a trigger warning at the start, so that probably limits many viewers. I had it on a UA-cam playlist once but it would "interrupt" the playlist because the trigger warning paused the video and you'd have to click through it every time. Such a hard-hitting but beautiful song, though - the instrumentation is also great/one of my favorites.
From one metal head to another, thank you for checking out these videos. Yoongi is the one member I've felt more connected to. His willingness to share his struggles and strengths with us makes him one of the truest artists in the world. When he performed this song at his final concert before entering mandatory service is one you should watch. His raw emotions and the way ARMYs were with him the entire performance made that concert the most powerful i have ever seen. I watched online and was crying so much for him. We love him so much 🥺💜
Suga only walks through the white door on the end of his very last concert, and waves. All over the world tears were streaming down ARMYs face. SNOOZE ultimate comfort song. A collab with the fantastic lead singer from the ROSE Woosung
I cried upon seeing this for the first time. Even thought we already knew about his hardships it still hurts. But to be able to talk about this, requiers a lot of courage and I admire him for that.
I heard the song first and read the lyrics and they were heartbreaking, but I remember when I saw him on that scooter in the video, I had to stop it and breath through it for a moment, because I knew that part was about his accident. I think my heart really broke for him when I heard The Last for the first time. Amygdala is powerful, but he also wrote it in a mentally much better place from what I understand, so even though I was heartbroken he had to go through it, it felt cathartic too. The Last was a lot harder to listen to.
Suga aka AgustD aka Min Yoongi has always been very honest and open in his lyrics. I cried the first time hearing and seeing the mv pf this one, wasnt expecting that. Also cried the first time listening to 'The Last' , highly recommend that one to understand a bit of his struggle 💜 Also love the genuineness of your vids💜
I love the whole Trilogie, but Amygdala is the one that hit me always and make me cry , to see through how much pain he is gone in the past. He gives me so much strenght in Times i have doubts on myself or about the decisions i have to make.
I’m a 68 year old Army for 10 years. Yoongi has a song The Last, that song touched my soul. It made me realize there is someone like me. And then he writes Amygdala and absolutely destroys me because I feel every word of that song. Check out The Last, it also deals with mental health. 💜
Yoongi (Suga/Agust D) has so many amazing songs, it's hard to pick which one! His latest album (D-Day) is honestly a no skip album for me, Polar Night and Snooze are incredible but I could listen to any track on repeat all day. For something in the same vein as Amygdala, The Last is emotionally heavy, along with First Love. So Far Away is another one. If you're wanting to see a live performance, his People Pt.2 with IU on her Pallette show blew me away! So did his performance of Eight, but it's actually IU's song though he produced it. Thanks for your reaction!
Yoongi was in the process of writing Amygdala during their "In The Soop" staycation, there is a moment when Jimin joins him while Yoongi was working on it. And he said that it was a difficult song for him, he suffered of strong mood swings in the process. But I think it was somehow cathartic and a further step towards his healing 💜
Yeah, I sobbed when I first saw this video. That feeling of realizing you have so much to properly unpack and process and the only person who can truly help yourself is you. And accepting that sometimes, you can't. At least not right away. His line about making the best choice, the second best, the third best always hits me so hard because I think that's just being human. Doing the best we can in the moment and then trying to live and grow through the consequences.
Amygdala is really so close to my heart. This is not just a song, but Yoongi's truth, literally a part of him that he allowed us to see. And what made this experience even more memorable is the fact that for the trilogy, he chose Amygdala to close that chapter. In the mv, it showed that no matter how much he tried to open the door to his memories, what's done is done. But in Yoongi's final concert, he ended the concert by exiting through a door. Such raw and sentimental detail made me realize just how strong Yoongi is. From being chained to the past memories to bravely opening a door to move forward :(
Min Yoongi is an amazing young man who has turned his trials into opportunities to help others. He has always been open about suffering from depression, social anxiety and OCD. Just sharing that within his lyrics and savage performances touches people and let's them know they aren't alone. I believe he is a creative genius.
I've just binged through all your reactions and am in awe of how well you analyse each song. Yoongi is my bias and a huge part of that is the music he makes and how honest he is in his lyrics. A few other song recs by him that I would love to see your reaction to (no MVs but the 3rd one has a live perf): So Far Away (featuring a truly epic guitar solo) Dear My Friend (honest raw lyrics about his past) Snooze (my absolute fave, it's so powerful and the instrumentals are out of this world) People (one of the first times he showcased his angelic singing voice) Side note that he performed some of these on his tour last year and on the final concert day he was incredibly emotional and ended up crying through some of the more emotional songs (dear my friend, snooze and amygdala if I remember correctly). It really shows how deep he goes with his music and how real it all is for him.
I cried the first time I saw this. His real accident was worse. He was hit by a truck and he has said that when he opened his eyes, a tire was right in front of his face. He is a musical genius.
The first time I saw this video, I was just overcome with intense, overwhelming emotion, and I cried. This album (D-Day) was my most listened in 2023, and the tour he did to go with it was so amazing. I was lucky to see it in person, and I still watched every online concert, replay, and watched it again in the theater.
I haven't seen anyone mention the almonds. So! Here I go! "Amygdala" comes from the Greek word " ἀμυγδαλή " meaning "almond", as the amygdalae resemble almonds. During this MV we see Yoongi (Suga / AGUST D) constantly eat almonds during the video. For this, I will reference the book Almond by Sohn Wonpyung (a fantastic book, mind you, I recommend it to everyone who hasn't read it). In Almond, our MC Yunjae was born with Alexithymia, a condition where a person is born with underdeveloped amygdalae and therefore have trouble recognizing, naming, and/or describing their own emotions. Yunjae's mother concerned over her son's inability to "feel" things always had almonds on the table during every meal and would make him eat them. I'll quote an excerpt from the book after Yunjae describes his ritual for eating almonds (he had to make it especial because he didn't like them): "The reason I bother going through this ritual is not because I like almonds. At every meal of the day, there were almonds on the table. There was no way of getting around them. So I just made up a way to eat them. Mom thought that if I ate a lot of almonds, the almonds inside my head would get bigger. It was one of the very few hopes she clung to. Everybody has two almonds inside their head, stuck firmly on somewhere between the back of your ears and the back of your skull. In fact, they're called "amygdalae," derived from the Latin word for almond because their size and shape are exactly like one. When you get stimulated by something outside your body, these almonds send signals into your brain. Depending on the type of stimulation, you'll feel fear or anger, joy or sorrow. But for some reason, my almonds don't seem to work well. They don't really light up when they are stimulated. So I don't know why people laugh or cry. Joy, sorrow, love, fear-all these things are vague ideas to me. The words "emotion" and "empathy" are just meaningless letters in print." Now that we know this, in the MV we see almonds and pills being mirrored. We know Yoongi suffers from depression, and we know he's been to a psychiatrist. When you are depressed, or have any disorders, and your brain isn't working like it's supposed to, you get prescribed medication to try and manufacture the response your brain should be creating. I think the almonds and pills are nudging at that. Yoongi had to take medication to try and make his brain function normally. I don't think this says he abused pills or anything like that. He'd take his "almonds" daily in the hope of "fixing" his problem, hoping that one day, he would stop feeling things too much or too little. Again, this is my interpretation of what it means. Yoongi's music always hits me the hardest out of all of BTS. He's the one I connect to the most. I think you should react to Agust D - The Last (lyric video + live performance).
The imagery of him crawling and the platform rising, and then he can't open the door!!!!! Brilliant!!!! I thought this had more views. It was such a hit with ARMY. Sometimes I think UA-cam takes away views, I swear!! I love Yoongi. This song and MV should have gotten so many awards in a fair world. It really hit all my emotions. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼💜💜💜
YT does take away BTS views. It even did that to another reactor who made a cover of Jin’s The Astronaut. Seeing it first hand was wild. Another reason it doesn’t have more views is that it’s “age restricted” and has a “viewer warning” attached (self harm, etc). It’s not an MV that most people would watch multiple times either, because it’s emotionally heavy and because it can be triggering for some people.
Out of the 3 songs in the trilogy, "Amygdala" is my most favourite, 'cos even though it's not a loud song like the other 2 were, and it doesn't have a heavy beat like the other 2, it hits me the hardest in its own quieter way. There's like an eerie calm to this song that pierces straight through to my heart and breaks it into 2, with intensely personal autobiographical lyrics, and that kind of internal emotional pain that I could relate to. From what I understand, Yoongi's Mum had cardiac problems and the ticking of her heart refers to the pacemaker she has. Yoongi's motorcycle accident is something that happened when he was just starting out as a trainee in BTS and he didn't dare to tell the company, in case they would ask him to leave, so he put up with it all these years, and only got it fixed recently, like around the time the BE album came out, if I remember correctly. Anyways, if I got it wrong, I'm sure someone else here will get it right. If you think the music video is great (and it is), you should see him perform this live during his D-Day Concert Tour. There were a few songs that really get to him during this tour, "Amygdala" is one of them, the other is "Snooze", and yet another is "Dear My Friend". Suga aka Agust D tends to have really raw and personal lyrics in his songs, and they all hit hard in one way or another, but those songs have helped so many ARMYs, and so many people find themselves relating to him and feeling closer to him. Those songs are his healing and ours. The door that he can't seem to walk through in the "Amygdala" music video... he finally gets to walk through it and closes the door behind him onstage at the end of his D-Day concert. With BTS, things don't end with the song or the music video, the BTS world extends through their concerts and live performances at award shows and so on. It's hard NOT to want to explore everything once you start really getting into them.
Just like in the MV Yoongi had a car accident when he was doing a delivery job part-time, that's how he injured his shoulder which he had surgery for in 2020.
From the moment I've seen the track name revealed I knew that this was going to be one of my favourite songs ever. I've used the name amygdala as a pseudonym before, ever since I learned about it in biology class (my name's Magda, which means the one from Magdala - I couldn't ignore the similarity of the two words). I've allocated it pretty much the same meaning Yoongi does in his lyrics. My grandma commited suicide, my father's got depressed and went into a clinic, my mother's got breast cancer and during that whole time I've been bullied at school - out of fear of making the situation at home worse I barely talked about the bullying to my parents. Once graduated, I realised I'd forgotten about literally all of my primary and middle school time. Amygdala's not become one of my favourite but my favourite song of all time, having by far the most relatable lyrics I've come to hear. I am extremely impressed by Yoongi, writing all of this down and then sharing it with the whole world - that takes so much strength and vulnerability. With that in mind the song touches me even more deeply.
He did a solo music tour last year and the stage looked like that room in the MV, with that door. At the end of the very last concert, he finally went through that door with a smile.
All of Suga's songs are fantastic at conveying a story with the accompanying emotion (anger, grief, pride) - but two of my favorites are So Far Away (followed by its sequel Snooze) and First Love. Masterpieces
It’s well known among Army that Yoongi has suffered from depression, OCD, and social anxiety from a young age. However, after years of struggle, he’s in a much better mindset now.
I love that you make the effort to try to understand... most reactors not knowing what an amygdala is don't stop and google it and it's so frustrating! The song has so much meaning when you understand what he's saying. Knowing his history (his accident, pain, mental health issues), I think every ARMY cried after seeing this video. It's one of my favorites of his, but is very bittersweet to listen to. I'd recommend Snooze next from Agust D... it's his way of telling younger artists that it's a hard road, but he'll be their support since he didn't have that when he was younger. It features Woosung of The Rose, an amazing Korean rock band and Woosung's voice is hauntingly perfect in that song (also watch Back to Me by The Rose - just amazing - as a rock fan, you may love it!)
I’m 52-year-old ARMY, I am OT7, but Yoongi is a very important member for me through experiences. Every time I watch this music video, I cry because I sympathize with Yoongi and find myself in the lyrics. Many ARMYs feel this way. There is also the song Agust D Ft. Ryuichi Sakamoto & WOOSUNG 'Snooze' - which for me is a continuation of the trilogy - which you should see. There is no official MV, it is part of a documentary film about the creation of the album. It is one of the last compositions by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, with singing by Woosung (from the excellent band The Rose - it's worth reacting to them in K-pop). Thank you for your reactions - they bring me great joy.
He actually has a lot of really personal songs. If you thought this one was heavy you should listen to his song The Last. No music video but there are many lyric videos on UA-cam. Also his song snooze from the same album as Amygdala is beautiful and addresses younger Kpop idols, talking about his journey and telling them how to cope with the things he had to go through. It has a beautiful fan made music video.
He played this at his concert and it was so emotional - Writing the song and then singing it at a world tour were all part of his ongoing healing. Every time I wonder if I am overestimating their brilliance - something like this comes out.
I sat in an airport and cried for two hours straight the first time I listened to it. It just summed up a lot of what I was feeling at the time. An amazing song.
3:35 it’s unfortunately highly likely that he did consider this as it’s heavily implied in one of his older songs called “that last” which I highly recommend. Yoongi’s resilience is truly amazing and so inspiring.
Yoongi has always shared his inner turmoil regarding his insecurities and phobias - so that other people can relate and how he handled it. I guess this is why we call him Grandpa Suga sometimes, he’s the second to the eldest in the group and there are times he is closed off, but he really cares for the members and does not express it in words as much. The members have fully accepted the way he is and love him whenever he does show his affection towards them.
For the most part most of us knew about his shoulder injury, but not so much the deeper stuff with his parents, and that plus the visual of him getting into his accident hurt a lot. I remember I cried the entire video and I think even harder by the end when I realized he didn’t get through the door but after some time and then seeing his solo tour and seeing how happy he was and how the members supported him wholeheartedly just opened my eyes. He’s healed and of course I’m sure he will always struggle with that type of trauma but I truly do believe him when he says he feels lighter now. RM even mentioned in his Suchwita episode that Yoongi seems much brighter now, much happier. And btw, he did end up gettin through that white door “Saving himself” in a way by the end of his tour. He’s truly a genius and is so in tuned with his feelings I think now. 💜 I hope to get there one day myself… apobangpo (Army Forever, BTS Forever)
I cried for a whole day after watching this mv.I can’t even imagine the pain & the suffering he had to go through that too in between making music and building a career trying to survive in such a competitive industry. He made me cry the most among all of the bts members.Actually all seven of them are such strong individuals they suffered a lot yet they made an impact on others lives with their music.Sometimes my heart just feels for them coz they all are super young but they saw a lot of life 🥺❤️🩹
Hello, Yoongi, since he started in music, he didn't count on the help of his parents, just his brother, so he came from his city to Seoul to clear a path alone in rap, but in the process he passed a lot of needs, trying to do several jobs among those deliverymen and one day he has an accident injuring his shoulder, When I can't stand it, I communicate to the company and there is support, and they did many treatments but they reduced the pain but they didn't take it away, (hence the pills in the video ) until November 2020 when finally with the best orthopedists in Korea operate it, so it was absent from the group for 3 months. In the video where you see someone thinking of doing damage with an exact face, it's to make his scar from Daechwita, which reflects everything he's been through to be the artist he is today. He says that the trilogy of these ends because he has already healed his heart, so in the video he does not open the door at the end, but on his tour before entering the Military Service at his last concert he says goodbye and weeps because he has freed himself from all his fears and depression. ( I recommend you see it )
He has always been real about his own story and struggles (he has OCD, depression and social anxiety) because he hopes he can help and provide some strength to ppl going through the same things. And even when each one of his songs talks about a different side of him, all of them are true, SUGA/ AgustD/Yoongi, each "alter ego" coexist with the other. I love him sm:( I really hope that what im writing makes sense bc English is not my first language and this song getting me all emotional is not helping 😭😭
This song is my favorite Agust D song for sure. I cried the first time I watched this music video, knowing the context of the song with his accident and everything. It's just so heartbreaking. The song is incredible and the way he was able to express himself through this song is amazing.💜
The first time I watched this MV what I felt was pain, but over that was a warn, and profound, sense of HOPE. It did make me tear up a little. But it also made me smile. Because, the very fact that he could sing about it, proved it was in his past. That he had found his way to the other side.
Besides his incredible flow and delivery Yoongi's authenticity and lyricism are incredible. He reminds me so much of a younger Eminem in many ways. Also this song doesn't have many views because it's age restricted but I agree it deserves way more recognition
This is by far my most beloved song by Suga. And I know why it has not so many views - I know people who were only able to watch it once, because it moved them so deeply. I myself cried multiple times while watching it. Masterpiece.
I've watched this video so many times, and still tear up for him, the MV is so powerful I feel. You should really listen to The Last, another absolutely raw and powerful song, the lyrics are hard to hear I feel, but I love how vulnerable he allows himself to be with him music. We are so lucky!!
when it comes to AGUST D you cant chose a favorite song every one of his music is unique You can't prefer one song over another or an album over another he is in my opinion is the best rapper ever the first time i watch the mv i was speechless but my tears falling down ...on this mv it was his first time to open up to us as his fans we know how much he suffer with his family and work and his journey a long with his group brothers and us he finally let go of his inner demons we all weak in some point and to acknowledge them is what we make us better human
I’ve been a fan of him for 9 years and every time he tells us something about himself, I tell myself I would have never guessed it on my own, because he looks so strong and happy When this came out, we (fans) didn’t know half of what he told us in this song I remember crying because it felt so real and like really connecting with someone and their feelings
He has frankly discussed in his music thinking (or even attempting to harm himself). This song has taugh me so much about processing trauma as he steps through his own. It has so few views because of the content warning UA-cam seriously represses it and it’s a difficult video for many Army so few rewatched it. It’s loved but softly, gently.
I can’t say I have a favorite because I love all 3 songs for different reasons. I was cried through this entire song. I could relate to it because I went through very similar situations through my life including wanting to end things. As he was crawling up (internal fight to live) to get to the door, I had a flash back of me doing the same thing myself. It took me many years to get through the door 🚪and leave all the bad memories behind and not look back. On the very last day of his D-Day concert tour he closed the show by actually going through the door. Again I cried because I was so happy for him. He finally got to the other side. South Korea has one of the highest unaliving rates in the world. There is so much pressure on their youth. I think he wrote this song not only for himself but to show everyone they are not alone and it’s not easy. But don’t give up, you can get through the door too. I wish for more of the youth around the world struggling to keep fighting. It does get better. 🥺
Min Yoongi is one of the bravest individuals I've ever seen! He makes himself completely vulnerable in his music. He has been open about his struggles with depression and social anxiety, and thus has helped so many ARMYs with their own struggles. He openly talks about mental illness and, through his lives, has given support and encouragement. He is a precious soul. His accident caused damage to his shoulder, but for fear of being cut from the group, he endured the pain and kept it a secret for a very long time. When it became unbearable, he revealed the injury to Bang PD. Bang's response was to make sure Yoongi got the surgery he needed, and the agency even helped pay for Yoongi's father's medical bills, which was a huge concern for Yoongi and one of the reasons he feared losing his job. Our Yoongi is talented, thoughtful, and courageous! Thank you for your reaction to this incredible piece. 💜
I would say that the music video probably doesn’t have as many views as it could have due to if having a age restriction due to the violent aspects but like…. It deserves way more x
When Yoongi first opened up about his struggles I cried as I listened to each one of his sharing and songs. Life is hard and so out of our control and truly sometimes so full of pain. And yet to still find hope and joy and perseverance through it. Honestly they have all been through so much and receive so much undeserved hate. They are humans and people with real struggles and experiences and just doing their freaking best. More than most people can say.
Amygdala and Snooze are some of his songs I find myself gravitating towards. He said it was his baby or something like that. I hope you listen to Snooze by Agust D soon. He is extremely open in it as well. It's such a good song. And he looks like a Rockstar in the video 💜
If you want to see a completely different side of Yoongi you should check out his collaboration with Psy on That That which they wrote and produced. Plus knowing that Psy conned him in to being into singing in it and then wrangled him in to the MV is pretty hysterical
In addition to everything we learn about Yoongi, this song wrecked me at first, which then lead to an epiphany of sorts. I have spent a lifetime, running from / trying to overcome childhood trauma. Just when I think I'm "past" things that for me happened decades ago, something will trigger the memories & at times I do feel trapped & at the mercy of my amygdala's incessant replay. I have always felt it was my obligation as an adult to overcome my past, in an effort to save or protect my child self who I always felt like I abandoned somehow, forever stuck in the trauma memories. When I saw this video I bawled my eyes out for Yoongi, but also for myself. But seeing younger Yoongi, trying to save older Yoongi... I still can't get over it. It was the first time that it ever occurred to me that maybe my child self wants to save my adult self. I am 54 years old & it took a young genius Korean musician to bring about a paradigm shift for me. Thank you, Yoongi. 💜
The solo concert was so very personal as well. Even if we as fans knew some of the things he went through, we can never truely know the struggle each created.
I cried the 10th first times I watched this mv. Yoongi aka Suga aka Agust D is the member who made me cry the most with his emotional and often gut-wrenching lyrics. Try The Last, Far away, Dear my friend for deep emotions. Or one of my fav is People.
Well you did better then me watching this for the first time....I bawled my eyes out! Knowing all he's been through and then to hear that in his lyrics just killed me. 😭
He is a musical genius. I cried a lot when this song came out. Thanks for mentioning how great this song is. On his solo tour, this song was played in a band arrangement and the production was great.
The self-made scar is a symbol of hurting yourself by reliving those painful memories. You could choose to be okay or hurt yourself with that kind of memory, but often we can't escape the latter. YoonGi went through that too, but he showed us that he is healed slowly (Haegeum MV show us a healing scar, where it was angry red in Daechwita MV), and completely when he was able to open that Amygdala door at the end of the last day of DDay tour, walked out, and closed the door. ARMY cried tears of joy when we all saw that. That last day of his tour was so emotional. We shed collective tears that day. His show Suchwita is a proof of all that. We can see how he's now very comfortable with himself, and that made his guests comfortable too. They often were able to open up and talk about things they wouldn't divulge with other show host. YoonGI is amazing.
I would recommend AgustD's song The Last as another example of a really raw song about his own struggles. His more recent song Snooze is also a beeeeaaauuutiful song that is a message from him to younger artists/idols starting in the industry.
This is my favorite song of his. I have so much respect for the way he shares his struggles in many of his songs. Mental health, especially in Korea, is still so stigmatized. To have such an influential public figure share these things is a powerful tool to show that it's ok to talk about it. The solo song of his that really made him my bias was the Last. Highly recommend.
I cried when I first watch Amygdala. One of the heart-wrenching MV from the first time its release till this day, that's why i didn't watch it again after spending a full day streaming this song😔😔🤧 but i still listen to it💜
I cried when this dropped and also when I saw him in LA and he did this. He’s always been pretty open with Army about his mental struggles, and has strong interest in mental health as is expected.
I would recommend going back and watching them together in order. The themes running through them become a little more apparent when you watch them that way. I'll also say that while these three videos are meant as a trilogy, I think his earlier songs and MVs tie in as well. Definitely worth checking out the MVs for "Agust D" (his debut) and "Give It To Me" (the follow up) and the song/lyrics for "The Last". I've always interpreted it as the Agust D in those early MVs/the first mixtape is the product of the events described and portrayed in "Amygdala". The angry, braggy, defiant blonde rapper in those early MVs will get the success he's working hard for, but the greed and anger will create the blonde king in "Daechwita" - the scarred version of himself that's been corrupted. The more mature version of himself - still scarred, but more in-touch with where he came from - kills off the king. Then in "Haegeum" the rebel Agust D has also achieved success now as the police officer and the scar is more healed, but he's still affected by his own greed and has become corrupt. So then the thief Agust D steals the product/source of that greed - the money - and liberates himself from it by burning it and killing off the corrupt cop. But the end of the video is still a bit of a warning that the cycle could repeat - he takes the jacket, he's getting a ride home from the cops, and he's eating with the red chopsticks he attacked the guard with at the beginning of the MV. He walks into the restaurant like he owns it - he's the boss now - but will greed win again? They all tie together to show Yoongi's struggle to contain the parts of himself that are angry. traumatized and destructive. He says in the "Amygdala" behinds that one of the points he's trying to make is that people create their own scars based on how they react to the traumas in their lives. So throughout the trilogy he's realizing and accepting that, and taking responsibility for it by "killing off" those bits. And as others have said, while he did not get past the door in "Amygdala" - how could he, he has all that Agust D stuff to live through yet - he did show us that he's reconciled all the disparate parts of himself and healed by walking out the door at the end of his concert with a wave and a big smile. Either way, definitely check out his earlier Agust D vids/songs. And if you want emotionally mature, introspective, grown up rockstar Yoongi, check out "Snooze". He even plays guitar on it 🙂
Yoongi has spoken before about getting hit by a car while on a delivery for his part time job as a trainee for BTS. He was afraid of being kicked out of the group because of his injury, so he hid it for a while. He also mentions this accident in his song The Last (another good one to react to), where he also talks about his struggles with mental health and it's believed he makes a reference to self harm (it's beeped out, but from context that's what it seems). Another deeply personal song of his that doesn't often get recommended is Dear My Friend, where he tells the story of a relationship he lost that he also references in his verse for BTS's song Spring Day.
For your question about why it only has 12 million views, I think it is a combination of things. Because UA-cam put a content warning for self-harm on it, it limits its visibility in the UA-cam algorithm. Also, many ARMY although we love this song deeply, also have difficulty watching it. It is triggering for some people. For others the reminder of everything Yoongi has been through is just difficult. This song is why I will always call Yoongi our Lotus Flower, though. He really bloomed beautifully out of his hardships 💜
The first week this came out I was bawling every single time i played the song with or without the MV This and love myself answer get me every single time
This is one of the reasons he is my bias. He is not afraid to be open about what is going on in his head. Not only is he a beautiful human being, but i would call him my little brother if we ever met.
Aw, man. This song….the first time I saw it I teared up. Yoongi has been through so much. The accident he relives over and over really happened while he was still a trainee. His crushed shoulder went untreated for years because he didn’t have the money to fix it, and he had to lie about it because he wasn’t supposed to have a job as a trainee. That was what the pills represented - he had to dull the pain with pain killers just to do the choreography. I can’t imagine the pain he was in. It’s fixed now, but you will still see him in a heated wrap before shows.
This song slays me…so emotional (after his song First Love, which I love but rarely listen to because it just hits too close to home). He’s amazing and this song/MV is a lot to unpack for sure 😞
A lot of us weepedwhen we saw this video and heard the song. We knew about his car accident that he had in the beginning of his career when he was almost underneath the car, that eventually led to his shoulder surgery, but we didn't know about his mom and his dad's liver cancer. If you ever watch any of the concert footage from his D-Day tour, you can see the anger she goes through singing the song amygdala live. I think you should watch the video for Suga's song interlude shadow.. 😊
I highly recommend check live performances because really shine on stage. If you want a specific Suga recommendation, then try Seesaw. For the rap line, Tear live is incredible. For the vocal line my personal favorite is zero o'clock. And for the whole team, honestly any live is good, but the Mic Drop to Run BTS from Busan concert blows my mind
First time I've heard it with this MV I've cried so much... And even later it always makes me so emotional often with tears in my eyes. Definitely one of my fav August D songs...
Which KPOP artists should we check out next? 🗯️
Should we check out more SUGA/AGUST D songs? 🗯️
Seesaw,The last,dear my friend,snooze,agust d
He has a good discography I recommend you check it out
check out more agust d songs please
More BTS or members solo stuff please
First Love
D-Day is also one of my favorites by Agust D
@@pyejammiesfanfic640 Posterior labral tear of his left shoulder, which means the cartilage around his shoulder joint was torn.
@@chere100 Thanks for the clarification.
@@chere100 thanks
the last scene of the mv is heartwrenching.
Just remembering. Im in tears🥲
He's the best.
He recovered...
Just remembering I get chills❤
I sobbed.
Suga has always was open about his mental health you should listen to the song "the last" that's an emotional one
That's the song I connected too. I didn't understand it but I felt it. Then I read the lyrics. Oh my heart
For more emotional Yoongi songs I recommend:
The Last
Snooze (feat. Woosung and Ryuichi Sakamoto)
He’s very introspective and raw. If you want emotions, Yoongi is the guy! ☺️
I recommended the same two songs, heh.
@@AJP.OT7 Yes, thank you for adding that as well.
This.
It is so hard to watch this MV without crying.
For some of us is really triggering as well :(
I agree. This MV is triggering. It brings embedded memories out and you know exactly how it feels to have those repressed memories out in raw. It's a hard watch for me. But I love this song. And I'm so in awe he is able to explore his pain like this. I feel really seen. Thanks yoongi 💜
Yups is hard to rewatch ..
How he will melt away when he react to "Snooze" :D That song deserves a Grammy itself
That's sooo true... It does deserve a Grammy
Yoongi is a person who Thinks Deeply, Feels Deeply, and Cares Deeply.
I get goosebumps every time I see this video. Thank you for the thoughtful reaction!
Amygdala is the part of the brain that stocks our memory, in this song, the room is that part of him
The trilogy is just parts of him dying and being killed.
@@kabazinga Ah, thank you. I'll make an edit. I don't wanna spread misinformation 👍
This song always makes me cry
I can see the video only having 12 million views because it is a sad, emotional song that some people might struggle to watch. I can generally listen to this song without much problem, but watching the mv makes me cry.
Yes this is the reason because it's kinda triggering lot of armys couldn't bring themselves to watch this mv ,which is absolutely fine !!
I don't think it would be suitable for the younger Armys to watch either.
I literally cry every time I see it.
Such a hard-hitting but beautiful song, though - the instrumentation is also great/one of my favorites.
it's also flagged with some age restriction? so it does not recommend
Also cried the first time listening to 'The Last' , highly recommend that one to understand a bit of his struggle 💜
Also love the genuineness of your vids💜
A few other song recs by him that I would love to see your reaction to (no MVs but the 3rd one has a live perf):
So Far Away (featuring a truly epic guitar solo)
Dear My Friend (honest raw lyrics about his past)
Snooze (my absolute fave, it's so powerful and the instrumentals are out of this world)
People (one of the first times he showcased his angelic singing voice)
Side note that he performed some of these on his tour last year and on the final concert day he was incredibly emotional and ended up crying through some of the more emotional songs (dear my friend, snooze and amygdala if I remember correctly).
I'll quote an excerpt from the book after Yunjae describes his ritual for eating almonds (he had to make it especial because he didn't like them):
"The reason I bother going through this ritual is not because I like almonds.
The words "emotion" and "empathy" are just meaningless letters in print."
Now that we know this, in the MV we see almonds and pills being mirrored.
The last is a masterpiece. I love the way he expressed all his pain and get over it through music.
So emotional... Every time I watch it it hits me in the feels. It's beautiful.
However, after years of struggle, he’s in a much better mindset now.
in this song, Suga shared his life story. As sincerely as possible. He is a genius.
"Amygdala" was my instant favorite song from D-Day album on the first listen-through
I sat in an airport and cried for two hours straight the first time I listened to it.
( I recommend you see it )
Agust D “The Last” is also very emotional. You can hear it in his voice
The song is amazing I love the whole trilogy, but I get teary every time I hear this song, he is such an amazing artist❤
Just heard this for the first time now, and it made me cry.
Yeah I love that he is willing to be so open and honest about his past in his music.
This song is my favorite Agust D song for sure. I cried the first time I watched this music video, knowing the context of the song with his accident and everything. It's just so heartbreaking. The song is incredible and the way he was able to express himself through this song is amazing.💜
i said that before and i'm saying again, i'm really really thankful for your understanding and appreciation for their lyrics
Suga's background makes it possible for him to go so deep into his art. Two faces of a coin.
We are so lucky!!
when it comes to AGUST D you cant chose a favorite song every one of his music is unique You can't prefer one song over another or an album over another he is in my opinion is the best rapper ever
the first time i watch the mv i was speechless but my tears falling down ...on this mv it was his first time to open up to us as his fans we know how much he suffer with his family and work and his journey a long with his group brothers and us he finally let go of his inner demons
we all weak in some point and to acknowledge them is what we make us better human
I’ve been a fan of him for 9 years and every time he tells us something about himself, I tell myself I would have never guessed it on my own, because he looks so strong and happy
When this came out, we (fans) didn’t know half of what he told us in this song
I remember crying because it felt so real and like really connecting with someone and their feelings
Already filmed and coming to out on the channel soon! ☺️
@@Allonsyyyy I’ve been so impatient for it ever since he and Yoongi talked about it on Suchwita 😉
He even plays guitar on it 🙂
I would highly recommend his songs "The Last" and "Snooze" 🙌
The first week this came out I was bawling every single time i played the song with or without the MV
This and love myself answer get me every single time
This is one of the reasons he is my bias. He is not afraid to be open about what is going on in his head. Not only is he a beautiful human being, but i would call him my little brother if we ever met.
I think it only has 12million because every time we watch it it makes us cry!!!!!!!!!
HE IS A GENIUS.
PERIOD.
First time I've heard it with this MV I've cried so much...
And even later it always makes me so emotional often with tears in my eyes. Definitely one of my fav August D songs...
