Great flights, and great bird! She looked big in your hands, and since you are a woman (smaller frame), I thought the bird is probably not that big, but when I saw that her hunting weight is 1130g I was impressed! And she moves exceptionally good for her size, what is her fat weight? She looks like she has Peale's blood in it? Is she capable of keeping up with the grouse after a miss from a stoop when she still has the momentum from a dive (I know she can't catch it from the ground, grouse has so much better acceleration from a dig). I'm asking because the best flights for me are the ones when the falcon misses and throws up for the tail chase! The only problem with that is the fact that the flight can go very far, and most of the time other birds of prey can attack them on the ground! One of the best flights I have witnessed was the hunt with my male peregrine in that fashion, the miss from a stoop, and aerial dog fight afterwards! The flight was incredible pleasure for me because all elements of the hunt were present (the stoop, maneuvering, the tail chase, ringing up), but soon it turn in to a nightmare when I saw 5 buzzards rushing to the spot where my tiercel landed with his catch! Luckily, he was able to fend for himself and escape, while I was running almost 1 km to save him :D
Thanks Dylan, I'm glad you're enjoying them! Although it might look like it, experienced falcons don't usually kill the ducks over the water. They target the ducks that are above ground because they know they won't be able to get them otherwise. Ideally, the falcon is at a high pitch (700'+) when the ducks are flushed, which gives them adequate time to get higher in the sky and farther away from the water. I can tell when she's killed one because she doesn't return to the sky after the stoop, and I also have GPS on her which gives me her exact location. Then I just make my way to her, let her eat on it for a while, and trade her off with a piece of pre-plucked meat. Then take the duck home and eat the rest :).
Thanks Greg! I’ve been a falconer for 6 years. Shiva did come from a breeder. She is pure peregrine but a hybrid of peregrine sub-species (3/4 Peales 1/8 Anatum 1/8 Cassini), and was bred in captivity.
@@MeganTheFalconer hi Megan. Does or Can Shiva take any Rabbits? Or he just a Game Bird Hunter? What State to you hunt? Do you let her Breed? Thanks for the Reply back and please be Safe with this Crazy China Virus! God Bless. Greg
@@gregoryh4601 Falcons typically only hunt feathered quarry, I only hunt ducks and grouse with Shiva. She will be of age to breed this season and it is my goal to get her laying, so hopefully! Stay safe as well.

That's the pinnacle of falconry! You've done a fine job with that Peregrine. Winter grouse are incredibly hard to put in the bag. Kudos from Colorado.
Thank you Mat! I honestly never expected her to get a winter grouse her first season, but she is an exceptional peregrine. Cheers
Another awe inspiring Vid🎥 Megan! Thanks for posting these exciting Cinematic Falconry experiences!🎇🦅🏔 Food for the Soul!🍛🍴🍹
The video is like an aeroplane movie (without the stereotypes) ;-)
Great video! Thanks.

Loving your videos!
How do you retrieve the ducks and your bird from the water after a kill?

Megan. Very nice Hunting how many years you been into Falconry? Did Shiva come from a Breeder? God Bless. Greg

I think you have too many *quarters* in her mix:
1/4 +1/4 + 3/4 = 125% Peregrine
I'm no *mathematician* Megan, but?
😮👏👏👏
Cool
