That’s the thing tho. Telling some kid that some dude ripped back in the day never gets the point across. Penny is a perfect example. There’s only a handful of clips of him, most of the stories you hear were live with no footage. If you didn’t see him live for yourself, chances are you are missing most of the allure, and it’s a criminal shame
@@khrissyboy69 I disagree, in order to appreciate something your passionate about its highly important to know the history of those that paved and came before you. It's not required by any means but I think those that have an insight on the history will always have a greater appreciation for it. The ability to dive into that history is so much easier now days too so imo there really isn't any excuse not to.
@Jared Davis I realise it now playing Session Skate Sim and trying every Historical Challenge! Hahaha😂I didnt knew much about Jeremy Wray, i'm a bit too young my go to were Fully Flared, Circa It's Time, Almost Round 3, etc.
@@Lilmax006 haha thats dope they got that history in that game and yeah he kind of stopped being super active as a pro around that time so you just barely missed his rampage on spots.
J Wray is like the good guy in skateboarding, and i like that about him. He crushed going big when no one was, but he always came across as a humble nice guy, which always made him stand out from the rest of the too cool, kinda assholes who made up the majority of pros back in the 90’s. Definitely does not get the respect he deserves, but just add him to the list i guess as he’s not the only one…
I was no more than 6 months into skating when my friend who rode for XYZ skate shop got us tickets to the premiere of Secondhand Smoke. Looking back I remember Jaime Thomas, Alphonzo Rawls, Danny and Colin and a few other guys who’s personalities stood out, but at the time I had no idea who any of those guys were. I’ll always remember that as one of the best memories of my childhood.
This was probably the gnarliest part of the time and it's still such a good part to watch. I watch it pretty regularly in my playlist to get hyped to skate.
One of the best and memorable skateparts of all time! When the song kicks in while he is doing fs flip down carlsbad after the long line in the beginning - Goosebumps!
He made a big impression on a lot of skaters from that era. Such a smooth and powerful stlye coupled with his chill demeanor really made J Wray a favorite among me and my friends
I’m so glad he talked about every single clip. I started skating in 96 so this part was before my time. When I eventually discovered it I was completely blown away. It’s like he was a terminator sent back in time to 1994 to film this part or something. It was that ahead of its time. The tricks would’ve held up in his Adio part like eight years later.
Jeremy is one of my favourite skateboarders of all time. I learned how to perfect my kickflip by watching his video parts back in the day, and I still do them the same way. I also had the chance to meet him in Paris at the "Bercy blocks", where he kicked some heavy tricks on the four and five blocks. Those tricks are part of the secret footage you unlocked at the end of the first Tony Hawk video game. There were also other guys: Steve Berra, Jamie Thomas (I think it was him) had a broken arm and was not skating but filming that day. My friends and I witnessed some sick skateboarding that day.
Jeremy skates the local park. and is as humble as he appears in this. Also when he says " I can do FS360 still whenever I feel like it " hes not joking, hell throw em down first try, its a sight to see like watching a gazelle
he was going big in this Video. When the music hit and he starts he's line.. Dude had so much power. Water Tower ollie is def one of the best skate tricks ever done.
The GOAT himself. Young dudes go watch everything Jeremy Wray it'll blow your mind. Also nicest dude ever. I ordered the Salt Girl deck from Wray Bros, I emailed him to tell him I was hyped they reissued that board and I was going to wall hang it and he offered to sign it for me.
I dont why Wray and Creager never get the recognition the way "The Boss" and Koston. No offense to Reynolds and Koston they have a huge influnce in skateboarding for sure but the trick Wray and specially Creager is the fundamentals of the gnarly stuffs skater do nowadays.
Santa Rosa skatepark kickflip was nuts. I grew up in that bowl lol. I could maybe get a foot and a half air out of that. Jeremey kick flipped like 10 feet in the air lol that must of been crazy af to see IRL.
I was in high school when this video came out, I had been skating for 10 years by then. I bought the video and took it to school and my art teacher let me and 6 of my skate buddies show it to the entire class. We were all freaking out I’ve the frontside flip down Carlsbad, knowing Kris Markovich was the only person to do a kickflip down it. Memories for life!!! Thanks JW!!!!
That was the first skate video I saw in 96 and his part was the go to before a session. Thanks to Jeremy cause he was the reason I got hooked on skateboarding!
One of my all-time favorite skaters in one of my all-time skate videos with one of my all-time skate parts. The skating, the music, the editing - love every second of it! Thanks Nine Club!
I vividly remember walking into Pacific Drive one winter day in SD and this part was playing on the mini tv-vcr combo on the skate counter the day the tapes came to the shop. This part stands up so incredibly well today almost 30 years later. I remember another time Jamie Thomas was in there setting up a board and called Jeremy Wray on the phone calling him "Jay Wray" and boasting that he had beat Duffy's rail grind stair length record. What times those were!
More of these please!!!! Went to a demo once and ALL the big name world/Plan B pros were too cool to skate it, stoned, barely awake sitting on their boards or off somewhere smoking more weed and macking with 16 year olds. EXCEPT THIS GUY! blazing, sweating, showing up all the hometown heroes and the hungry ams smiling all the way through. I had driven hours to get there, only saw one demo every couple of years cuz my state was not on the circuit. He saved the day!
2:28 "Sturt didn't like the way he filmed that one" - Honestly the way the camera shook, how he was tip toeing on the grass and Colin with hands in face made that moment even better! It was like omg! It was a happy accident. It was art.
Impossible to be disappointed. Jeremy was so impressive at that time, looking his part from France, we weren't able to do any of these tricks. Perfect foot placement, style for days, attention for details, gnarly sets of stairs...Now its a great privilege to see the other side of this rider, how this human being is thankful, remembers everything, has a nice word for everyone. Great dude. Thank you Mister Wray (and shout out the nine club for making these available) !
20:37 really tall rail was Lincoln jr high in Oceanside I believe I was there that day but didn’t see it go down. It’s not there anymore . Only person I have ever seen do a trick down it
"Kind of a rare trick at the time." Every trick in this part was mind melting and rare at the time. It felt like this part came out of nowhere and nothing else was like it. This is ground zero of tech going big.
Watch other parts from ‘94 and you can see how incredible this was comparatively. The fast/popped/clean thing we have now just wasn’t happening yet! This part is one of those parts that reset the bar of the entire game, progressing what’s possible. It was jaw dropping to see as a fourteen year old in ‘94.
Hes one of those dudes whos tricks are just text book. I remember the trick tip video he did, first step i think. Just simple shit like pop shuv its or kickflips he was doing ovtlike, kids step 2 picnic tables. And hes got the best frontside 360. Period. The butcher was close.
some of these kids don't realize how much jeremy wray was crushing spots during the 90s-early 2000s. Mans was always ahead of his time.
Check out his Blockhead part or 411 Issue #1 Pro Spotlight or Color video too, that's early 90's destroying everything

Almost reminded me of an early appleyard with how hes built and how smooth he was.
Jeremy is one of the best skaters to listen to speak about skateboarding
you guys sorta have the same voice ironically, imo
....and Ronnie Creagstarr is a mutha'phukin legend🤣👊🏽
His vivid memory is as epic as his skating good grief he rules

I remember every trick he dissects. Still mind blowing. RIP Jonas.
This was probably the gnarliest part of the time and it's still such a good part to watch. I watch it pretty regularly in my playlist to get hyped to skate.
best frontside 360's ever and a legend for the Tower Gap. insane
An extra 10 minutes of this era Jeremy Wray footage would be a sight to see. Please make that footage available at some point
Thanks for this piece. This part was jaw dropping when it was first released. Such a legendary part. Thanks Jeremy.
One of the best and memorable skateparts of all time!

That's a questionable metaphor.
Why? The terminator was from the future and brought futuristic technology with it.
You guys crushed this one. Jeremy is a absolute legend.
Long been one of my top 3 fav parts

One of the most likable people in skating
What a legend! His attention to detail and stories he remembers is amazing. Seems like such a good dude. Didn’t use any bad language.
i love hearing the story behind these classic videos because a ton of work is put in for like a 3 second clip. respect!
One of the first to catch all his flips, Absolute legend!
So grateful for these videos. You guys are preserving skate history with this stuff
Jeremy skates the local park. and is as humble as he appears in this. Also when he says " I can do FS360 still whenever I feel like it " hes not joking, hell throw em down first try, its a sight to see like watching a gazelle
Can’t count how many times I watched SHS!
Jeremy Wray’s part was always epic, The build up in that opening line is crazy! Legendary shit!!
Legend! My all time favorite skater hands down. Down to earth dude. Pure skateboarder. Thanks for this!
he was going big in this Video. When the music hit and he starts he's line.. Dude had so much power. Water Tower ollie is def one of the best skate tricks ever done.

Yes!!! Legend. Love how he remembers so many details. More of this please

J-Wray is so rad. Good stuff
Best one yet. Loved all the little details.
One of my all-time favorite skaters in one of my all-time skate videos with one of my all-time skate parts. The skating, the music, the editing - love every second of it! Thanks Nine Club!
My skating life spanned from the mid 80's into the early 2000's. This part was, and still is, my hands-down favorite video part ever.
These kind of videos are the JAM, Guys!! Keep 'em coming.
Jereme Wray doesn’t get enough credit. One of the greats
D.H. Stuart jumping down fuckin' Carlsbad while filming is amazing and pure Stuart. So rad

Much Respect & Love for Jeremy Wray... Icon of street Skating!
Favorite skater of all time.
20:37 really tall rail was Lincoln jr high in Oceanside I believe I was there that day but didn’t see it go down. It’s not there anymore . Only person I have ever seen do a trick down it
So much power
Second hand smoke was one of my first skate videos. probably watched it literally 100 times.
That is that man right there!
Jeremy Wray is one of the best street skater to converting one trick to the next spot to extending the flatground lines of Rodney Mullens!
I would LOVE LOVE to see the other footage from the SHS line that Jake has.
Love these so much
i really liked this one, Wray bros 4 ever!!!
Please get Pat Duffy to watch his questionable part 🙌🙌🙌
Probably seen that part 500 times
"Kind of a rare trick at the time." Every trick in this part was mind melting and rare at the time. It felt like this part came out of nowhere and nothing else was like it. This is ground zero of tech going big.
Dude was such pioneer and so ahead of his time, he should have won a soty
