    Sweet potatoes and yams are two completely different plants. Yams are very uncommon in the USA. They are from Africa and the flesh is white like potatoes. They store well and made their way to the America’s with explorers. They grow the best in tropical climates. Sweet potatoes were probably called yams because they resemble them on the outside.

      @gabthang8 Рік тому

      Both what you described and what she used in the video are sweet potatoes, just two different types. Actual yams aren’t native to the US, nor are the often used in American cooking, so they are typically found in international grocery stores, such as African (where yams are native to), Caribbean, Asian, and Hispanic markets.

    This is a great, indulgent recipe for the holidays, but if you want to eat healthier sweet potatoes throughout the year, after you scrub them, prick with a fork a few times and put in the microwave on high. Start with 5 mins, test with a knife for tenderness, continue until tender. You can add butter and salt, but I love sprinkling with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice and salt. Very healthy and delicious and the skin is fantastic (unless the sweet potatoes are not very fresh)!

I just roast the yams/sweet potatoes in their nice clean skins, open them up and flake the yummy potato a bit; add butter, sprinkle a LITTLE dark brown sugar and some nutmeg and cinnamon over that. I use white sugar and cook them in cast iron skillet. My gramma(a country woman) taught me how to cook, and that was how she did it❤

    I'm going to try your recipe with the yams, sweet potato are whiter more softer texture. Both delicious 😋
