Sheerrreeeeeennnn where is the nutmeg, cinnamon, orange juice, etc.!!? southern style girrl🥺🥺
I was just coming to ask this lol we use white and brown sugar, a little syrup, nutmeg, cinnamon, butter and a little lemon extract or juice to cut the sweetness
I wanted to ask the same thing 😭
My grandma used cinnamon and marshmallows.
Pecans too
No marshmallows though on mine
I put cinnamon, nutmeg, Jamaican allspice, ginger, maple extract, and a lil orange juice in mine…I’ve never had them with just sugar before.
🎯🎯🎯
That sounds amazing
.......and a lil vanilla
@@promisemadepromisekept.7575 Yes! That too!!
Your recipe sounds fantastic! What would be the specific amounts for all the spices that you add to yours? Also, could you replace the maple extract with maple syrup for the same effect? Thank you!
Shareen friend! Orange juice and brown sugar are the secrets to sweet but not overpowered yams ❤️ once I started adding orange juice i never went back.
Ohhh yeahhhh
Are you kin to Anita Bryant?
@@SusanKay- no ma’am. You’re the only one shuddering.
Zest that orange!
I know.. right! But I have a problem every year cause my sister is allergic to orange anything. Yes orange makes them most delicious 😋
Sweet potatoes and yams are two completely different plants. Yams are very uncommon in the USA. They are from Africa and the flesh is white like potatoes. They store well and made their way to the America’s with explorers. They grow the best in tropical climates. Sweet potatoes were probably called yams because they resemble them on the outside.
I know what a yam is but many people such as my family, call it yam. So it depends where you come from. And to be specific when speaking to someone at a vegetable grocery shop, we could say yellow yam and immediately they know it's sweet potato
Nice to know! I will No LONGER call them YAMS!! Lol!
Came here to say this!
It’s a yam and is indigenous to Central and South America.

Been making candied sweet potatoes for 45+ years and my 85 y/o dad made them his whole life, we never added water, sliced them about 1/4 in thick and cooked them until the sugar and butter syrup was thick. Delicious!
Yes same 5hing i said it makes its own juice with the sugar.
My mom always adds southern comfort to those bad boys 😂
And it is delicious!
That sounds great
Special occasion candied yams Easter, Mother's Day & Thanksgiving, my mom did the same added some cognac and marshmallows. They were delish! I only make them during special holidays and I add some pecans or walnuts.
I add Kahlua. Delicious!
Before or after cooking? Haha
No vanilla extract, cinnamon or nutmeg? Oh my
Yes, I've always seen those ingredients used on yams/ sweet potatoes.
lol I would say why, but ppl might be mad at me
Mam, you just dragged your finger on molten hot sugar, are you okay?
My exact thoughts! Also, had to be the 69th like on your comment :)
@@gillianboate 68 and I'll owe u 1 lol
🤦♀️
I thought the same thing.😖😱
If you not a cook you don’t know
I've been making savory sweet potatoes for holidays, since that captures my brothers taste .preferences...but those candied yams are my go to for dessert in the winter. Oh. My. Goodness. Succulent, richly sweet and buttery. Heaven
How Much Do You Weigh?
wwow....really? A woman can't enjoy dessert without a comment? I'm going out on a limb that you're attempting to insinuate that I'm fat. I wont insinuate: you are a 14 year old male, or a troll. Who kicked your rock?
Back in the day, markets called them yams, IDK why, I guess marketing.. Mom called them yams, so candied yams it is. And NEVER add any spices, it'll ruin them.
Do you have a daughter with all your wonderful talents and charisma that would love a southern man, that loves the kitchen as much as you do.??? Your cookbook is a must have and your energy is vibrant and warming. Keep them coming , NEVER STOP! And your mama has it right, CANDIED YAMS.From Texas with love 🤘🏼💛
Yep! Candied yams they are!
You are so dam beautiful mam 😍
Because so many people call yams sweet potatoes which they are not
Where can I buy your cookbook?
You should promote that book more I had no clue I'm going to buy it
Yes I agree I want to buy one also!
I have that book. I love it!
@@maryscott3060 where or how did you get her book?
@@420asia they carry the book at Amazon. Shereen has a link to click in the description. She will have another one out in 2023.
I love this straight to the point yummy recipe🫶🏾
Ahhhhh the way my mommy made them. Didn’t care for them as a little girl but I grew to love them and appreciate her wonderful cooking. Thanks
Recipe:
3 lbs yams peeled cut in 1/2 inch slices
1 lb dark brown sugar
Salt to taste
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup water
Making this right now for Christmas Eve Dinner. Yum!!!
Shereen.. are you aware that you’re a literal cooking angel?
I use evaporated milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract as well.
Milk? 🤮🤢
They are yams. Sweet potatoes are shaped more like a baking potatoes & yams have the elongated shape & are usually thinner than regular potatoes!
Those are definitely sweet potatoes. Yams are white on the inside and hairy on the outside.
Both what you described and what she used in the video are sweet potatoes, just two different types. Actual yams aren’t native to the US, nor are the often used in American cooking, so they are typically found in international grocery stores, such as African (where yams are native to), Caribbean, Asian, and Hispanic markets.
I Always Enjoy Your Videos & Recipes...I Must Admit That I Find You Very Easy On The Eyes As Well.

Looking Good! 😊Thanks 😊
Your videos are the freakin best! I always watch! Your awesome! Have a good day!!
No They’re not she can’t cook
@@lovelygirl1730 your negative person, have a good day!
In South Africa we add one final step to the process:
We layer them and then place a topping if marshmallows on top, pop under the grill for as long as it takes to soften and plump up the marshmallows...let stand for a few minutes and serve...
Yes! That's how we do them in New Orleans. Get those marshmallows a light golden color. C'est si bon!
Broiler, not grill;IMHO
Love that I too can cook & be “Fancy”!! BTW, I was gifted your cookbook for my birthday 🎂
Love the recipes!!
Girl you got me cooking a whole thanksgiving meal using your recipes! 😂
Always enjoy your videos the pot pie recipe is to die for thank you
That looks so simple and so delicious!!!
would be really good if you add pecans
This is a great, indulgent recipe for the holidays, but if you want to eat healthier sweet potatoes throughout the year, after you scrub them, prick with a fork a few times and put in the microwave on high. Start with 5 mins, test with a knife for tenderness, continue until tender. You can add butter and salt, but I love sprinkling with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice and salt. Very healthy and delicious and the skin is fantastic (unless the sweet potatoes are not very fresh)!
Love this recipe TY🎃
i heard a sweet potato say to a Russet potato " I yam what I yam"!!
I need this recipe.. thanks.. BTW your skin looks great whatever you did recently is lovely on you..
So enjoy how you present your recipes, you are hilarious and brighten my day and your food is delicious too 😋
Love the delivery... you make it fun!! Super delicious
Sweet potatoes are my favorite potatoes. Fried, mashed, roasted (with or without the skin), cook'em or eat'em raw, love 'em.

There ya go. The best !!❤
I'm going to make it, looks so good.
Yea, other than the fact that a yam and a sweet potato are different, I feel you...
seriously I just made them and wow. I needed simple and delicious to ight. tha k you so much
Thanks for sharing
Looks delicious
I love your recipes, wish l can get your book
This is a perfect recipe ❤️ And delicious!
I love this show
They look so good, so easy - but I can’t have that much SUGAR anymore (yes, that includes chocolates, too, darn it). I just roast the yams/sweet potatoes in their nice clean skins, open them up and flake the yummy potato a bit; add butter, sprinkle a LITTLE dark brown sugar and some nutmeg and cinnamon over that. I used to love them the sweetest way, as you did them, but I love them “my way” just as much.
Great job ❤
Love your videos.
Your the Best!!
Looks good
They look good but no cinnamon? No nutmeg?
No seasoning.
You’re free to put cinnamon in yours. I understand Sheree’s version: “candied.” “Brown sugar” is enough for me.
They look good
LOVE THIS GAL.
I think you are simply awesome!
I do mine that way, with a little honey as well, and stock,if I add meat I add the stock that goes with it,and roast it on a low heat,so good
Sure looks good. I actually also have that exact pot. Love it.
I've made sweet potatoes like this for 55 years. Best ever . My 1st mother in law taught me to make this in 1967.
Great now I'm hungry 😂
I like anything Italian, you are a real Italian and also doing Italian. Bravo!!

I like your style. It’s good to know the basics then once u have that u can add whatever else u want to your own liking. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love your yams.
I want her to adopt me!
Love it !! And not a marshmallow in sight! Thank you😊
I use white sugar and cook them in cast iron skillet. My gramma(a country woman) taught me how to cook, and that was how she did it❤
I’m following your recipe to bring to my family thanksgiving! I’m sure it’ll be easy!! Yours look the most appetizing! Thank you! And Happy Thanksgiving!!
Yummy 😋 I'm definitely making this next time I buy some kumera thanks nice job
I'm making these now. I hope they taste as wonderful as they smell.
