Life is a cabaret, old chum.
Midst is an audio drama in which three mischievous narrators spin a surreal, reality-bending, sci-fantasy space western about a crotchety outlaw, a struggling cultist, and a diabolical bastard making awful decisions in a world on the edge of disaster.

My name's T, and here's my rhyme.
This ep of Midst was mighty fine!
But don't forget, this ain't the norm,
Beware the calm before the storm.
The song portion of this episode really, *really* shows the strengths of this storytelling format - and the incredible talent of our wonderful Narrators!
I'm pretty sure. We can all agree, this is just a wholesome episode and nothing bad whatsoever will happen afterwards
ive subscribed so ive got the next 2 weeks epsiodes, and this is true! the phineas is falling thing? they go to a trampoline park!!
Ok, was waiting throughout this whole episode for the awful surprise, the other shoe to drop, someone to hear Tsila talking about Lark, or Mock Weepe to somehow Vader his way into the party and ruin it.
Instead, wholesome episode front to back. Possibly the biggest surprise of all.
I think it did, we just don't realize it yet. Saskia's language throughout the episode is ominous at best... I think they are setting up her other half's death.
Yeah obviously everything is getting fucked up in the highest light
This episode is like those short videos of a peaceful looking clip with the caption “there’s no jumpscare in this video, I promise” that have you on edge the entire time only to actually not have any jumpscare in the video.
My new favourite character is the person who shoot their shot with Ned in the middle of a song.
As silly and humorous as it was, throughout this entire saga I have not been more overcome with intense emotion as when listening to the mining song. Third Person so perfectly captured the love and camaraderie that is so unique to a small town community. I have lived most of my adult life in the city, but as someone who grew up in a village where everybody knew everybody else and their business, I was crying from both laughter and deep nostalgia and longing to experience again such a tight-knit community. I was afraid my partner was going to walk in on me ugly-crying/laughing to this seemingly nonsensical hoedown.
Thank you, Third Person for such a beautiful narrative. And anyone reading this, cherish the community where you belong, wherever you are, and whatever that might look like for your life. If you haven't found it yet, you will find it. And if you have, keep the love alive and don't be afraid to reach out to those on the fringes who might not yet feel they belong. Let them know that they do.
Can confirm that Ned's verse was entirely sung on D. So hot.
They promise the D, they deliver the D!
It totally is! I didn't catch that the first time through. That's really impressive that he held that one note so long.
jesus, the terror just 'yeeted' that one guys wife and his memoery and turned one of his kids into a dog. thats grim
Wasn’t it his mother he forgot? And the child who turned into a dog was the guy who died
@@14s0cc3r14 *Emmet* forgot his mother. *The Postmaster's nephew* got turned into a dog. (That doesn't sound like a good thing, but it is.)
@@KenDaizhai Right. And the Postmaster wasn’t Emmet.
Okay but that moon tune was some heat🔥
This episode is gonna end up in my Spotify wrapped with the amount of times I've replayed that song over the past 2 weeks. Also God it just adds a cherry on top to Weepe's shittiness that the actual lyric Midst people use is "belly's full" but he changed it to "wallet's full" in his version with Saskia.
It really does! I thought they all chuckled because of how he sang it with the extra enthusiasm on that part, but nope. Its because he's a greedy bastard.
Absolutely no secret major reveals in this episode. No siree. No foreshadowing doom, whatsoever. Just a wholesome episode! You can trust me - unlike the Narrators, I'm completely reliable!
Shhhhh
Oh god now you made me MORE nervous for next episode bdunfuwnfi2
haha, a comforting break before the next nerve breaking episode!
"Let's get this party started! Oops, did I say that here or there? Haha"
...
...
...
"It's okay, you go on without me."
...
Ngl that moon mining song is a damn good banger. What a lovely time.
My name is Miguel and I am here to say:
I have loved this series from the very first day
Every episode is shaped like mental clay
But this one made me feel like I was part of it
Being in the cabaret and really wanting to stay!
YEEEEHAAAAAA!!!!
So good!
For the part you want to hear repeatedly: 20:33
(I recommend 1.25x playback speed personally)
Tbh, I'm subscribed to this channel more for Midst than anything else at this point. That song was wonderful. This show is so underrated.
Massive respect to you guys for going the mile to create verses to the song in character! I hope you will one day just release a collection of song bits from the podcast!! (also everyone please remember to relisten to this episode at one point)
This episode is pure delight. Favorite one in the series. The singing and rhymes were downright amazing. A very well earned moment of happiness for these characters.
Just have to go back and keep re-listening to the episode… every time I hear something new. One of my favorites from such an amazing story
God that was an incredibly fun episode, glad to see everyone on midst getting some time to celebrate and enjoy life for once. Can't wait for the next episode!
It is terrifying to think that Saskia's last line of dialogue may have been said in both ends of her existence... Oh I hope she's ok
I'm sure some major things will go down really soon. I'm also sure that there was some foreshadowing in this episode that I will look back on in the future. But at the moment I'm going to enjoy the amazing Midst music, I'd unironically buy the album.
For me and anyone else: song starts at 21:00
That rhyme sing was insane! I can't believe they passed it around so fast! So sad for Saskia. I hope they don't kill her other half.
I totally want the song portion of this in its own video so i can play it on repeat XD great job wonderful narrators!
Bravo, Third Person, what an episode, what between the song, the lingering consequences of the tearror, the happy wholesome moments and yet the dread of foreshadowed pain to come. Midst truly makes my wednesdays, so thank you to all involved.
I may just be a cat,
but I can tell you that
I know a good party when I see one.
Lovin' all the singin', lovin' all the dancin',
Lovin' everyone just havin' fun.
Bringing everyone together,
nothing's any better
than a community unfettered
and united as one!
Mighty fine shindig.
And some good damn heroes
So, 5 more episodes? I am thrilled and also nauseous with anxiety to see what happens.
That song. So, so good. The lead up, the pacing, the timing of when / what episode to put it, the world building, the vibes, the relief and tension at the same time... Just amazing.
I need a full version of that moon mining song _now_
That was genuinely a lovely song
That's it. That's the finale. There is no bad stuff to ever happen again and it's all just happy parties forever. No need to remember the cold open with Phineas falling to his death... Nah.
I agree with a lot of the commenters here. We finally have a really good wholesome and happy episode. Be honest, honest honest I was expecting a different vibe for this week, but I’m all for it.
But my favorite line on this episode was, “this is an anti-toast. Fuck mock weep!” 😂
Love the moon mining song. That chorus is gonna be stuck in my head for a while.
Had to come over here to see the art specifically for this one. I swear I've rewinded the song about 15 times just today!
Ned is King. Amazing Song. This Show just gets better and better.
Weird feeling that almost all of Saskia's lines are going to be repeated in the next episode with very different contextual meanings.
Saskia is the best character of this story ❤️
“Let’s get this party started” works in both situations huh?
[Spoilers for this episode and potential future events]
Ok, I might be in too deep but I think Saskia in the Highest Light is dead.
It is implied that Saskia said "Let's get this party started." in both places at once, or at least it would fit in both places. That leads me to believe the team in the highest light is starting their ""assault" on the vault.
More importantly, the ending sticks out to me a lot. I think the "It's ok, go on without me." wasn't just for Sherman there.
O_O Oh No why would you put this out there? It makes so much sense though.
I also think this; I think her focusing fully on Sherman at the end was only possible because she doesn't have anything else to focus on.
They also kinda insisted on the word "alone" at the very end. She hasn't been alone in a while.
Yeah, kinda felt a double meaning in that "go on without me" line.
Just side eyeing the 'nut lady' that was briefly mentioned, I'm sure she's not important. No sure ree... I'm sure she's not looking for, say, her brother... On an entirely different note, i wonder where that nutcracker wound up. I miss them. Best character. Hope they're okay.
@Irishxlily Saskia found it in his office after cleaning and threw it in the dumpster.
@@DanielArnett oh that's right, I remember now. Thanks!
Still would like to see nutcracker return lol.
@@Irishxlily I appreciate the gray characters they create; like a hideous monster who enjoys fidget/sensory toys. That scene had me cracking up (like the ice cubes)
Ngl I was holding my breath this whole time because everything sounded so wholesome wxniwfb but thankfully everyone on Midst is okay.
At some point they mentioned in the song about a Sylvester. Made me feel that maybe its there for a reason but I may be reading too deep in this 👀
Everyone knows Sylvester, though, right?
Cheers to the narrators for the miners’ song, it was so fun, and cheers to the artists for the wonderful art!
🍺🍺
That cabaret illustration is GORGEOUS holy crap!
MVP of the episode: Emmet
yet again... I have a new favorite episode... funny how this keeps happening to me each week
this is such a satisfying and rewarding episode. im so glad i live at a time i can listen to delicious podcasts such as Midst
In which the party, undeniably and unequivocally, gets started
Well... this was a calm episode. Can't wait to see what the storm brings next time!
Beacon has episodes 15 and 16 already up! Guess I'll be binging those for this next hour! 😱
There were so many points where I thought things would turn ugly. But man, that song gave me chills.
What an awesome wholesome moment of respite, extra powerful when contrasted with the intense dynamic stress of the rest of the podcast. The musical improv was amazing and overall the narrators cultivated such a cosy, heartwarming sense of community
Wonderful episode! I think we all needed a light-hearted break after what's been happening recently, especially after last week. A true delight!
Love how so much of the music in the show riffs off the same motif. Really gives the show a familiar vibe throughout all the episodes.
cant stop addicted to the shindig
I love how different this episode was from any previous ones. I wonder if the narrators improvised the song parts. Major props if they did. I'm surprised (and grateful) Moc Weepe didn't show up at the end to start dropping bodies.
This episode was a bit mid until the song busted out and now it's one of my faves.
I got misty about 3 or more times out of sheer feel-goodness, can't wait to feel the opposite next week I'm sure! 😅
The song had NO BUSINESS being this good...I say as I listen again
THE ENDING MATCHES UP TO NEXT EPISODE!?? I’m once again dumbfounded by the genius of this show, and I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to have found it
Absolutely loved that song! They did such a good job!
Sherman should buy Midst. He can probably afford it, especially now!
Haha whooooo!!!! So much fun! Excellent breath before the plunge. Dancing in my kitchen, this is my favorite show 🩷💛💙
So Atticus' sister hates nuts ..
Not many people are talking about it but the build up from S1 E2, through the ENTIRETY of S2, all the way to here, to reveal that this entire time, Addicus Concord's sister has fucking hated nuts. Just the extra icing on the cake. Like, it was obviously a shitty gift from the very beginning, but this makes it all the more funny
Now part of me is worried about what the new Midst economy is going to be like without a moon to mine. Maybe they’ll make a surface mine like we have on earth?
You completely outdid yourself with that song!!!!
Whoo boy, that song was catchy!
A musical episode! I didn’t know I needed it but so happy I got it!
Finally midst gets a break! That song is an absolute banger!
Music starts at 21:09
Such a perfect cool down episode
I love this episode!
Now who's up for a game of Jod!
Best idea for a song ever
Oh man....... did Lark and Saskia fall?!?!?! I need to know!!!!
I was waiting for that other shoe to drop somewhere in there. The narrators being all like "Look, it's everyone, all our friends here. They're so happy! And alive! Yes! Very alive! Surely nothing could happen that would ever change this! Certainly not another catastrophe that would wipe them all out in one blow!"
Instead, we got an absolute banger of a song showcasing the narrators' singing talents. Much more fun!
The way they did each part in character? So cool. Was it actually improv.? I guess we'll never know.
When and where can I get this song into my list and or covers
Epic song!! Also, loved the look at the Hill once again!
I want the Moon Mining Song, both versions.
Saskia be slaying
RIP the caption writers.
What a perfect wholesome episode, please protect the islet of Stationary Hill
I kept waiting for Moc Weape to show up to the party and give us his verse.
Narrators got bars!
Please tell me y'all are releasing this song on Spotify on it's own. It's too freaking catchy
Gorgeous art as always ✨
Excellently done episode, thoroughly enjoyed it!
Wonder if Emmett is unable to remember his special someone because of the Terror, or because of some other reason...
Either way, nice to have this brief break moment before the explosions and stuff on Highest Light.
He was mentioned in the tearror episode. He lost all memory of his mother during it.
Either the Mothers left him as a dog or couldn't turn him back, and i dont know whats funnier
Please tell me that Moon Song is available somewhere for purchase? I'd buy it so fast.
Awesome episode.
Great party.
Amazing song!
ya im gonna be singing that song all week at work now lol
21:05 moon tune! (Is there any place to listen to the song individually?)
No toast for the sisters? Still amazing toast, got me quite emotional.
Waiting for the release of the Mining Song like ⌚👀🔥
Guess I should play too
Hi guys my name is Dean
These comments are the cutest that I've ever seen
It's so nice that everyone wants to play
Seeing all your verses has made my day
What a lovely shindig
Not gonna lie I was on edge for the whole episode waiting for the other shoe to drop
