Clancy! Not sure if you’ve changed the island colour yet but the wood is actually really nice. It adds warmth to the kitchen rather then just the harsh contrast of white on black / black on white. The wood helps break up the sterile look and adds homeyness and more character 😊
Agree! And I actually just deleted a comment saying the same thing. So I’m glad to see you say you are going to keep it as is! My island cabinets are gray and the wall cabinets are white… and I really like the contrast. Plus, when people sit at the island stools and their shoes inevitably kick the island cabinetry, the marks/dirt don’t show up as much as they would if it was white.

It’s been a year and I’m still unpacking. I did put contact paper on my Ikea desk and it works really well. I had to come back and edit, we sold our home and it appraised for 25,000 more than we asked. We were shocked and we were in Florida. We just took the loss. Congratulations on your new home! 🎉
Hi Clancy! Just a friendly tip: the compartment in the dishwasher is for liquid soap, not pods! The pods actually sit on the racks/on dishes! You will see a huge difference, I promise! :)
We took a lower offer because they also offered no inspections and it was all cash. There can be many reasons people would actually accept a lower offer.
At first I thought you meant you were painting the kitchen island counter white but now I see the island base is beige. That’s what you are painting 🤦🏼♀️ lol. Yes that would look good but I’m thinking why not paint it black and go for the monochrome look. The white on white on white kitchen trend is coming to and end soon. Love your fridge! Re: the wooden island - it's likely intentional that it is wood, as its actually in very on trend to have a different colored island than the rest of the kitchen. We actually just did this to our kitchen! But totally cool if your preference is the other way.

Clancy if you're trying to save on grocery, I really like going to Aldi's! it's much cheaper than Kroger and I like the quality. I live in the same area so I can attest to the prices, it makes a huge dent in your weekly grocery bill!
I think getting the boxes out of the room you are primarily finished with helps so see the end of the tunnel. With the entertaining area still having boxes of some other place things makes you feel you are not making progress. Put them in a room you really aren’t using yet to have a visual of finality in the dining space

When we sold our house we had 2 offers and we accepted the higher offer. When we got to appraisal, our house appraised a little less than the offer and so they came back and offered that amount. I think it was because of the bank they could only do what the appraisal was for. Anyways, we took it because we were in a time crunch and wanted to be done with the house. We still made good bank on it so we were happy. It could’ve simply been what happened there. No games involved, just the bank wouldn’t pay more and they kept going with the offer as is. We knew that if we backed out and went through the sales process all over again it most likely would happen again so it would’ve been a waste of time. My friend had the exact same thing happen to her the year prior. Blame the bank and home value lol. Happens all the time.
That was my guess too possibly. It was happening a TON in Ohio a few years ago. A lot of my friends had to come up with the difference in cash which some people just can’t do so the seller sometimes just has to settle for less unless they want to re start the entire process with finding a new buyer!
We have found out that you can't trust Real Estate People. We recently had my late mother in laws house on the market and we had a woman we have known for years sell our house. Unfortunately, she had a "client" that she was trying to get a deal for. It went into escrow but fell out and we decided to go with a new Real Estate Group. House is in escrow again for $55,000. more and she lost out because she was trying to get a deal for her friend instead of helping us and lost a lot of money. Serves her right and she is no longer a friend. She really tried to screw us. Trust NO ONE!

An appliance repair person told me that pods for the dishwasher and pods for the washing machine significantly diminish the life of the appliances. The material holding the detergent gums things up.

He told us new appliances today suck. All of them. LG and Samsung are what he gets the most repair calls on. The days of our appliances lasting 10, 15 + years are over. I almost started crying right there. * when leaving your house for an extended period (days, weeks) turn off the water supply to your ice maker.
That "will pay whatever the house appraises for" offer seems so dumb to me. We've purchased 3 properties in the last 4 years and all of them have "appraised" for what we purchased them for, using that as the basis of the appraisal. And all had previously been appraised lower than the sale price. That's just such an odd way to do it.
Oh my gosh. Zac’s nananana boo boo actually made me laugh so hard! We missed out on a house too where they actually accepted an offer 50k over ours and we bid 30k over asking, and when I found out someone paid that much for the house we didn’t even want it anymore. Definitely not worth it even if it was in a better neighborhood than we settled for we have a much better house for our needs now. It all works out
This reminds me of my first apartment half way across the country. My boyfriend, now husband, moved from California to Texas. With only a 2010 jetta and the stuff inside. We literally lived out of duffle bags and had an air mattress for the first 9 months. We literally didn't have anything. Lol.

My husband and I will always unpack on arrival, whether returning from travel or moving in. We'll literally stay up all night if necessary to unpack every box/bag and put things in the room they belong. From there, it's easier to organize them. Of course, we deep-clean everything before starting this process. It works well because we have high stress for max 2 days then we're settled and feel at home and relaxed.

My husband and I will always unpack on arrival, whether returning from travel or moving in. We'll literally stay up all night if necessary to unpack every box/bag and put things in the room they belong. From there, it's easier to organize them. Of course, we deep-clean everything before starting this process. It works well because we have high stress for max 2 days then we're settled and feel at home and relaxed.
