I used this camera for years for travel photography, because of it´s size and whenever I don´t wanted to carry a DLSR or DSLM. After it broke on a trip in scandinavia I switched to the RX100 III because of it´s better aparture values, the slighly wider lens and it´s evf. But I use this cam 90% in automatic mode, because with the small sensor size changing the aperture value doesn´t make any difference other then changing the maximum sharpness. The hyperfocal distance is only a few centimeters. I only switch to S when sitting in cars or trains for faster shutter speed or I use P for adjusting the HDR option or for using the multishot noise reduction, also the mark II often uses a bit to long shutter speed in automatic mode at night, this was slightly improved in the mark III version. There is a fully manual mode indeed. You can use M and switch the function of the wheel between aperture and shutter speed, while you can set the ISO by pressing the fn button. I use this all the time when using a tripod and shoot with F4.0 at ISO 160, for maximum sharpness and dynamic range. Really a nice cam for the price and very compact. Good choice for a cheap and compact but good street photography camera. And with the additional grip that can be glued on the front it fits good in your hands.
Found this video amongst my suggestions and I have to say I agree. I have the RX100 IV so it’s a bit more recent but still very cheap - less that £250 - and it has the same features plus a built in ND filter and the additional electronic view finder. I love the camera, so portable and nice to use. Yes, sometimes the autofocus struggles and the battery doesn’t last as long as mirrorless camera, given its size, but like you say it’s perfect for capturing pretty much anything.
It's a lovely little camera to always have in your bag. I got the Mark 1 for a total bargain of 20€ last year, and I use it daily as a sort of "journal" camera. I'm not sure what you mean with the manual mode, though. On my Mark 1 I can set aperture, shutter speed, and ISO if I put it to M-Mode.
I completely agree, altho I use the mark VII. So small it is almost always with me. Great range, good enough quality - when there is at least decent light. People think you are a tourist, but you can produce some great images with it.
You can totally shoot manual on this camera. It has the Manual mode right there on the PASM dial. Then set the ring around the lens to adjust aperture, and the command dial to adjust shutter. ISO is handily default on the function button once you set it up as such. Then the exposure triangle is sitting quite conveniently placed. More convenient than my Leica Q was, honestly lol. I love this camera as a back pocket backup. My Leica M240 with 35/2 is my EDC and it's perfect. But, obviously, there are certain kinds of shots that set up simply cannot get. So when I want to shoot tighter or video, just whip the Sony out of the back pocket and grab it no problem. It takes great shots. Has a bit of that "pre-raw" in-camera magic that bodies still had at the start of the 2010s.
I love these little point and shoot cameras and the RX100 series is one of the best. I had a Canon G11 back in the day and it was awesome. Unfortunately it doesn't look like any more cameras of this type are being developed.
I've used the Sony RX100 M1 for eight years. Full manual mode is possible. There is literally a manual mode on the top dial that allows you to change aperture, shutter speed, and ISO values in the FN menu on the fly.
It's in my bag since it came out, and it has travelled dozens of thousands of miles - yes, the RX100 OG. It has its issues, e.g. the way Sony processed photos (even Raw) back then, which was over-sharp. But then, it's served me well.
The original RX100 has the nicest SOOC images, imho. I've used other versions and none of them had the same magic. They all required editing. End result is still good... but whatever they had going on with the internal image processing in the MK1 was 👌👌
I've had my eye on one for a long time and I've been scouring eBay since last year. The biggest feature this model has that I want is the AIS on top because I have a Sony stereo mic that would go perfectly with it for video. The M2 really does tick basically all the boxes for me as the perfect compact camera. If it had a fully articulating LCD screen it'd be damn near perfect. Great review!
Hi, I have version 6 and it's scary! After about 1 year of use (for street photography) I feel confident in challenging any owner of any other camera, including those with APSC sensor, such as Fuji, Ricoh to do a street photo challenge!!!
Yeah...I agree. I have the Mark I and even that impresses me everytime I see the images on the back screen. It's like I'm using a full-frame Sony A7 model.
@@Nerdzombiedisco I also have the Mk1 but I assure you that from the Mk5 onwards the image quality is even better, you should try it, you will be amazed! Sharpness, contrasts, colours, superb image quality!
I have one of these, I also have a Fuji x20 which is also a great travel, street camera, both cameras are lightweight, have a zoom lens, inconspicuous, and no need to change lenses etc, and take great photos....
Since I always look forward to photos you create, I looked at the few (in my opinion great) motifs that you included in this video with great interest. I protect my (relatively new, but also expensive) gear like the apple of my eye - you know what I mean because you recommended it to me and because you asked: it's my favorite at the moment. Kind regards - Monika
I was trying to choose a used camera for my next trip (between this RX100 Mark II, for exactly $200 or the Canon G1X Mark 1 for $250) when I found this video, found it pretty helpful, this seems like a nice cam, compact but still going to have better handling/ergonomics than a phone.
i like the samsung ex2f and the olympus xz2. my oldest compact which i use at bright light is a panasonic lx5. all of these cameras you can get for less than €200.
I keep seeing videos like this one claiming that this camera can be bought for $200.00 I'm not sure where you are, but where I am you can't find anything worth having for less than $500.00
Hi Tony! Thanks for your feedback. I really think the price has slightly risen over the last year like with many older cameras...but you can still get it in Germany at Ebay in good condition for around 250-300 Euro...
I can buy a yeard old RX100 Mark III foor 450 euros. I want to try my hand in street photography, but also want to use it as an everyday camera (since I use a dumb phone) and to take lots and lots of photos in my trip to Norway next month. Good deal, or nah?
I have an rx100 mark 2 as well! Got this when it was launched . Well fired it up after all these years today and saw your video of mark 2 pop up on my feed. So happy to see :). Surely one hell of a beast in your pocket. Happy shooting. :) cheers.
Hi Michael, it depends. I found some here in Germany online for around 180 - 210, but there were also some for around 300. Idk if maybe Germany is cheaper here?
I have a Rx100 mark one, love it great street photos in good light very Sharp. Good build quality . Would like Mark 3 or 4 for flip screen.

I've had a rx100 III for 9 years and it's still in my pocket. It's great how inconspicuous you are on the street and still get great photos.

Hi Oliver, great video - yes I have the 100 III and that’s from my beginning of Streetphotography I love this cam - thanks for your cool video 😊
Thank you a lot dear Flo, so happy to read! Sony makes really nice cameras, even i as a Fuji Fanboy have to admit😊😀 Have a great evening!

Hi Oliver. How does this compare with the Panasonic DMC-LX100? Is it worth the switch?
Hi Tony, unfortunately i don't know this specific camera. But in general, with Panasonic you can be sure to get good value for money.
This camera or a DSC W830 to begin with?
Hi! I'd go for the RX100. Bigger sensor, higher ISO, better video quality, faster, better battery...
How can I change the language I have it but i can't setting it course it in Japan
Oh, i am sorry, I have no Japanese subtitles here, but I will include them in the next videos!
How do you transfer the images to your phone or iPad?
With an SD card reader. I have on called Icy box - works perfectly fine.

It´s still great , isn't it? Thank you for your kind feedback! Happy shooting :-)

The camera?
i have a canon g7x mk1 and sony rx100 mk 2. the video and picture of sony is amazing than canon.
I don’t think you can find it for 200 dollars. Maybe 300.

I just got one for $200
I just bought the Mark III from a pawn shop for $133. Came with 3 batteries and a 128 GB Sandisk Pro SD Card. 😁
