I think you'll be fine. Mine just sits most of the time because I don't take it to the track very much anymore. But the times I've used it and the cold weather distance test I did today pretty much proved what I've been thinking for a long time.
I just did it. So far great. I used my Capital One Walmart card and got 5% back which almost covered the 7% sales tax. $90 each for 3 for my 36v cart. The Everlast 24DC set directly in place of the former 6V DC Rural Kings. The RK's are now about $130, ie $780 for 6 vs $270 for 3 12V Everlast 24DC's.
What a great idea! I may do that when I need new batteries. Please let us know in a few months if you still think your 3 12v deep cycle batteries were a good replacement choice.
Excellent idea! In addition the cart will be lighter! These are designed for golf courses, around the house 3 twelve volt batteries may be all you need. Did you use group 24 or 27?
At about 0:30 in the video you can see that the Walmart battery that he used is a 24MS. That is their marine starting battery. A better choice might be their Marine 24 DC which is their deep cycle. It's what others on UA-cam used. The 24DC is 101AH. I didn't see an AH rating for the MS version but it's probably less but with more cranking amps because it's a starting battery and less for storage. The 24DC is currently about $90. It's footprint is about the same as the 6V golf cart batteries, GC's.
Series = more volts while parallel = more amps. The old batteries were series and parallel wiring config while the new 12v batteries are only wired it series. Parallel increase torque and power up hills and driving range while series increase top speed at reduced range and loss of available amps for power up hills.
I did this swap and when the batteries were brand new after first being installed they lasted about 4 or 5 times longer than after I charge them and drive it. I tested the voltage and it gets to 38v like it should. But only last about 1/4 what it did when they were new
Have you guys seen better battery life compared with 6 Volt?? Some people are claiming they dont last as much. is it true since you have alot of experience with Marine 12v?
Hard to tell so far. Those marine batteries (and others like it) usually last 10 years or more. I've had great luck. I've only had these batteries in this cart for a few years now and have had no issues. They do great!
They are deep cycle marine batteries, so they are designed to last 8-12 years. The battery on my trailer finally gave up after 13 years, so that will give you some idea how long they can last.
Hello I know this is an old video but I noticed the batteries in your cart are 24 ms I'm not sure if you know this those batteries are starting batteries the batteries that you should have used are 24 DC long use batteries like for rv or boat trolling motor even though they work you would get a few more miles run time research it let us know enjoy
Hi Chris. I made the change myself, but now I’m having issues charging the batteries. I assume you are using the same charger? I’m wondering if my charger got fried or just randomly died. Did you or any views hit charging issues?
I use the same charger and it works just fine. Your may be cooked. They are pretty durable devices though...and can withstand a lot of abuse. They are designed to handle drops, bounces and all the other issues that come from riding in the back of a golf cart. You might be able to get it fixed or just get another one.
I swapped out my old dead 6- 6 volt golf cart batteries for 3 Walmart deep cycle 12 volt marine batteries and it works great and saved me big money !
Yes sir , just made same transplant did 6 mile test run no problem at all!!
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos !
Thank you for this update, I'm going to grab some marine batteries this weekend and let her rip!

They still work great... do it!

Can you show a picture of the label on the side if the battery please ? Group size, MCA size etc ? Thanks, nice video

Thanks for the videos bud!
Do you have a video of the wiring you did or do you just wire it like it is and just leave out the other batteries
Just wire them in series just the other batteries...except you only have 3 to do instead of 6.
Series = more volts while parallel = more amps. The old batteries were series and parallel wiring config while the new 12v batteries are only wired it series. Parallel increase torque and power up hills and driving range while series increase top speed at reduced range and loss of available amps for power up hills.
Further more, batteries wired in parallel can draw more amps and less stress on battery bank while series draw less amps but highier voltage.
How do you charge them my charger won’t work with 3 12 volts
Mine works just fine, and has for years. You may need another charger.
I have a ezgo same 6 bateries like to do the 3 bateries I like to have a diagram to connect all wires can you do one so I comvert to 12volt bayeries
Just wire them in series.

Try charging the system at a slower rate the charger might be charging at too high of amps
What charger do you use? IE can you use a 36 volt charger for anEZ golf cart?
I just use the standard charger that came with the cart.

How long of a battery life do these hold?

I got marine batteries which are supposed to last the longest...certainly longer than standard ones.
Do you use they cart charger to charge them or a regular battery charger?
i use the cart charger. It works just fine.

What kind of charger do you use on golf cart?
the one that came with it
Maybe a Part number for one of the batteries ? Thanks
Just go get the biggest marine battery wal mart has. Easy.
What are the amp hours of he batteries you are using?
Just get deep cycle marine batteries. They have plenty of power!
So if I have 66 V batteries all I have to do is put 312 V batteries in it is and it will work just as good I have to change any wiring
all you need is three 12V batteries and it'll work just fine.
how many miles will it go before dead ?
Don't know. I've done several 4 mile runs and it didn't even blink.
Are you using deep cycle batteries?
Yep!
