Boy, has it been one helluva three weeks! I started building my own desk (which is both unique and beautifully designed and really fun to make), I bought a guitar, started drawing, connected with some old friends, took a few long walks and did some more stuff. Thank you for inspiring me! I will keep you posted when I have more news!

I am a second year architect student and these videos really help me elevate my designs. I have a fair amount of knowledge about color, design, structure, light etc but you touch on a lot of points that i hadn't really thought about as much. Thank you! keep it up!
This is such a well-made video and an awesome channel. I'm very interested in architecture and I'm basically just watching all the 30x40 videos to learn more. The amount of useful information crammed into these videos is fantastic.
My question is: as a student what other activities can I do to earn (As I have a lengthy architect accessories wishlist) the things which actually help me even in my career! Ex: photography, vlogs,etc
GREEK GOD try going to art classes. like drawing or painting. photograhy will help you see better. music helps you focus. you would be surprised with the things you can do to help. the real trick is to find something which takes you away from architecture. to help you balance your life. dont fo too deep, otherwise you will get fed up with work.
*work, that's the 100% best you can do because all will be real life situation experience.* - if you work in a construction firm you will learn lots of technical stuff no one is going to show or even mention while you study - if you work in an architecture firm you will learn lots of design process, materials use, light/wind tricks and so on that no one is going to show or even mention while you study. - if you work in a design-related firm (furniture, interior design, graphic design, etc) you will learn lots of design process, materials, techniques, marketing strategies and so on that no one is going to show or even mention while you study. so... yeah, just work because photography, learning a new program, vloging, model making, rendering, post production, etc etc etc is stuff you can learn by your own with 1h a day and when you get to the end of the university you will see you have like 2+ years doing all of that = experience and portfolio material.
I used to work as content writer for software company.. this was 180 from architecture..buy it has helped me in my career as an architect. The research that goes into doing this job made research work in masters course fun and easy. Also it pays well and it's a break from hectic study schedule.
I just had my first attempt at site analysis photography yesterday, really should have reviewed my photos on site though with the sunshine, seeing the digital screen wasnt to easy. Having now seen my images, they are all crisp and clear but I think I have focused to close in for many of my photos so showing context within the site was lacking. Think I need to go back and try again :-)

Could you talk about your formation and if the architecture schools in US pay a lot of attention to this artistic side of our profession. One thing that's never touched on in discussions of color is how the people who will live there look against the color palette. I have an olive complexion, and while I might want to use color to physically or emotionally warm up a room (especially here in Wyoming) the reality is that my skin tone against warm colors make me look ill. Against a cool gray I look rosy and healthy, so I stick with cool main colors and use warmer colors sparingly to accent.
my sister pointed that out to me with umbrellas. She has a yellow one that made her look sickly. Then she bought a pinky-red one and her face looked rosy and healthy instantly.

I am a beginning first year architecture student at a college in Los Angeles and all the time I'm looking for really cool and interesting things to inspire me, to dream bigger and I found your channel and i immediately got stuck watching your videos. Thanks for these videos. I just started my first semester in college majoring in architecture. I'd really a appreciate a video on the basics of model making. I've been having trouble cutting chipboard and other materials. I have an assignment on something called "Kit of Parts". Totally lost on that. We're required to make planes; (2) 4cm x 1cm, (3) 8cm x 3cm, (2) 6 cm x 4cm, (1) 12 cm x 5cm, and a cube of 6cm x 6cm x 6cm. All made out of chipboard. We're exploring three-dimensional systems of organization and space making. I need to keep balance, symmetry, and stasis in mind while doing this project. I'm allowed to notch the parts when intersecting but I can't cut them in half or anything. My composition should be able to sit flat on a table on TWO sides. All the planes and solids must be connected perpendicular to each other and layering planes on top of each other is not allowed. If you have any tips, I'd really appreciate it. And thanks again for making these videos. I'm always watching whenever you upload.

I enjoy your videos , must take a lot of time to create -re: color I agree with most of your premises on light ,color, and color theory however (being an interior designer with 40 years of practice) I do feel you as most of the architects I collaborate with over the years, have a very different approach to color that short changes it's potential contribution to interior spaces , and it's potential psycho therapeutic contributions to it's inhabitants and the interior space's ambiance . Honesty in materials is important , but so is the human element ( those who inhabit the space) perhaps since they (architect) are focused on creating the building / exterior materials juncture they feel reticent to deviate when addressing the interior 's color . Modern architecture, because of it's premises/ underpinnings, tends to overly organically influence this decision .I find it Interesting looking at how differently these two design disciplines approach this subject. Keeping a balanced approach is at the root of good design. Just as an landscape architect can be worth his weight in gold to a project.

My question (already told you but... i insist) how you learn to build? to the point you get enough knowledge to go on with your own projects almost alone? Also i think you missed a really important fact about colors in architecture: you talked about the temperature feeling but not about how the color actually change the real temperature of a room + how the geographic/country location matters, for example isn't the same to get the temperature of 2 rooms (same materials, dimensions, etc) painted in black with 2 windows one to the east and the other to the west, one room located somewhere in the North or South of the planet and the other one in the mid or in Australia. Keep going with the awesome vids.

my question is: how good is an interior design background for someone who wishes to get a master in architecture and eventually get licensed. Also, what is the difference between the work of an interior designer, and an architect who works/specializes within interiors, or is there even a difference?! Would mean a lot to me if these questions were answered, i've been doing research and always get a round about answer :(
I don’t distinguish between the two, architects do both and that’s certainly how my practice operates. I’d focus on your architecture curriculum above an interior design focused one because that will capture both disciplines. hope that helps...
khalid hassan I have both education and work experience in both fields. There are differences and similarities. Architects are licensed and must be licensed to practice. Interior designers do not have to be but must work with licensed professionals, general contractors/structural engineer/architects to get projects approved. Interior design background may help you visualize spaces more intimately, but you can also learn this on the job. Every architect and designer has strengths and weaknesses. Focus on your style and methods of design. This will help you figure out what form is a good fit and you can possibly learn interior design along the way. I'm focusing on my certification and debating on whether to to the AREs later on. Good luck!

FOR THE Q&A: after getting our masters in architecture you think we should do a specialist MASTERS ( Urbanism - sustainable architecture...) OR START WORKING ???
you should keep your titles, or any written text, on screen for a few seconds more as they go away too quickly. I would also suggest a 1/3 of a second audio crossfade between your hard cuts. you can do this by setting default audio transitions and then applying the audio transitons universally. Whatsoftware are you using to make these videos? Adobe Premiere Pro? or FCP?

that was very good!! I am dusting off my color theory books from my certificate in residential planning. .kitchen design. It helps to have a point of reference through a lecture. Then be able to research from that point!! I have been trying to do this on my own and failing but watching your videos has given me a spark of hope. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge. You know I am not in the position to be that architect but I want to be able to help and architect draw plans in cad and brainstorm. Take on jobs or freelance. Is this a possibility to aim for? Is there schooling online that I can take like skillshare etc. where the classes are affordable. Like a community college. I am working around my boundaries. Thanks
glad the vids are helping you find launching points for further research...freelancing CAD drafters are quite common, so certainly a possibility for you...determine the programs they're most frequently using in your area (Revit, Autocad, Vectorworks, ArchiCad)... hope that helps!

During the designs of your colour palette, do you create relationships beteeen the colour and the surface texture? -more specifically, in circumstances where you would portray the character of the colour in a surface texture that a blind person could understand. Just moments ago, I watched "Using Materials To Tell A Story: An Architectural Essay" and in it you highlighted how some of the texture was accessible for appreciation at eye level so I imagine how opportune it would be to use those colour-texture emphases...
Great content, alot to follow. Although, with my education, I was able too do so 😊 Side note: the Hard Cuts in video editing made it difficult to follow visually and verbally. Even though you made complete sense. Just SUBSCRIBED, looking forward to seeing your other content. Ps: perhaps you could interject how ethnic groups use different color palettes. 12:33 in South Africa I’ve had a paint colour set from representatives of a paint company, gone to the paint store that the paint swatch is from and asked about it there and they had no idea the colour existed 😂😂

its all a balancing act. too much archi ans you lose the edge. you lose your self in delusions of self grandeur...

my question is: how good is an interior design background for someone who wishes to get a master in architecture and eventually get licensed. Also, what is the difference between the work of an interior designer, and an architect who works/specializes within interiors, or is there even a difference?! Would mean a lot to me if these questions were answered, i've been doing research and always get a round about answer :(
I don’t distinguish between the two, architects do both and that’s certainly how my practice operates. I’d focus on your architecture curriculum above an interior design focused one because that will capture both disciplines. hope that helps...
khalid hassan I have both education and work experience in both fields. There are differences and similarities. Architects are licensed and must be licensed to practice. Interior designers do not have to be but must work with licensed professionals, general contractors/structural engineer/architects to get projects approved. Interior design background may help you visualize spaces more intimately, but you can also learn this on the job. Every architect and designer has strengths and weaknesses. Focus on your style and methods of design. This will help you figure out what form is a good fit and you can possibly learn interior design along the way. I'm focusing on my certification and debating on whether to to the AREs later on. Good luck!

you should keep your titles, or any written text, on screen for a few seconds more as they go away too quickly. I would also suggest a 1/3 of a second audio crossfade between your hard cuts. you can do this by setting default audio transitions and then applying the audio transitons universally. Whatsoftware are you using to make these videos? Adobe Premiere Pro? or FCP?

that was very good!! I am dusting off my color theory books from my certificate in residential planning. .kitchen design. It helps to have a point of reference through a lecture. Then be able to research from that point!! I have been trying to do this on my own and failing but watching your videos has given me a spark of hope. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge. You know I am not in the position to be that architect but I want to be able to help and architect draw plans in cad and brainstorm. Take on jobs or freelance. Is this a possibility to aim for? Is there schooling online that I can take like skillshare etc. where the classes are affordable. Like a community college. I am working around my boundaries. Thanks
glad the vids are helping you find launching points for further research...freelancing CAD drafters are quite common, so certainly a possibility for you...determine the programs they're most frequently using in your area (Revit, Autocad, Vectorworks, ArchiCad)...

During the designs of your colour palette, do you create relationships beteeen the colour and the surface texture? -more specifically, in circumstances where you would portray the character of the colour in a surface texture that a blind person could understand.
Just moments ago, I watched "Using Materials To Tell A Story: An Architectural Essay" and in it you highlighted how some of the texture was accessible for appreciation at eye level so I imagine how opportune it would be to use those colour-texture emphases...
