When John Mayer Uses The Dumbloid & Flux Five - The Key To The INSANE 2019 World Tour Solo Tones

- In today's video we will go over multiple examples of John Mayer using what we call the "Third Overdrive" in his rig. The best era to talk about the Third Drive and his higher gain solo tones is the 2019 World Tour, where he primarily used the Shin's Music Dumbloid B and the Mesa Boogie Flux Five overdrive pedals!

another good combo for high gain is bluesbreaker>tubescreamer>klon.
I have one of the shin Suzuki dumbloids and i genuinely had no idea that John ever had used one of these. Rad!!! Like always the Mayer whisperer one of the best channels on YT
Thanks brotha 🙏🏻
Your dedication to sorting these things out is (yeah, I shouldn’t be as interested as I am - my life will continue and I can get there easy enough with different pedals) but us geeks can’t help ourselves! Tx!
Great video
I saw him on this tour and he most likely had something extremely interesting going on with the tone caps in his SS. There is a cocked-wah sound that you can get from using certain non-conventional cap values and rolling back on them (which we know he always does). If you watch the Changing performance from the 14.10 show in London, there is a part where he plays some very odd chord voicings during the outro solo that really accentuates the nasally cocked-wah sound. John's tone that night and in general, has some of that same 'ooooh' characteristic that Steve Vai has.
Cool Video! Is the MB Flux Five also on the board and moved to the 3rd row (next to the Providence Chrono) for the Amsterdam show on the picture at 9:49?
That’s the Free The Tone Tri-Avatar Chorus!
Can you do a video going over the tone for Wild blue on the Stephen Colberts show? Particularly the ending solo
Am I right in thinking that the graphic eq on john's flux 5 is set completely flat? In other words, if the eq part isn't being used then the same could be achieved with a regular mesa boogie flux?
As far as videos, I'd love to hear what some of the different pedal combinations sound like in isolation from your rig. Thanks
Looking at his board close-up, it seems that he is using the red channel on the Flux V with the eq engaged. I personally use it similar to that, as the amber channel is closer to the TS-type sound.
Awesome. Can you do a video with new pedals you’ve bought to try out? Just to see what you’re checking out lately.
That’d be fun! I sold my OX though since I want to go with a mic’d setup for the cabs and audio, might be a little before I get that up and running though!
i have a Klon KTR and a TS9. I think I'm going to try to stack them with a Revv Chat Breaker or 1981 LVL.
Any sense of what settings he sets these to?
Can i use the mesa boogie flux drive also instead of flux five. Or is it different sound
I would also like to know
What about changig?
For the Dumbloid, I’m pretty sure the boost only works when the drive is engaged.
Both sides are completely independent, or else most of this video wouldn’t make sense! www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/guitar-pedals/boost-pedals/shins-music-dumbloid-boost-overdrive-pedal-hammertone
@@JustinJeske I didn’t see that pedal in the video. I’m sure the version I played only worked with the drive on, but maybe that’s changed or is model specific.
which pedal is this 'delay 80s'?
It’s the providence delay 80's
John Mayer is using three pedal boards for his solo tour
The dumbloid is a great pedal but it can be a little high gain and super loud.
I’m looking to get one to try it out. Have heard mixed reviews from friends who have owned it
