  • I paid $25 for dental work in Mexico, and so can you. It helps to know some Spanish, so take notes. I set up an appointment in Guanajuato City, Mexico for a routine cleaning, and in the process learned how much a variety of other dental work costs in Central Mexico.
    Medical tourism might sound scary to some, but after my experience, you’d have to pay me to get work done in the US. Mexico is just a no-brainer when it comes to dental work.
    In the video you’ll learn the cost for:
    -Routine cleanings
    -Fillings
    -Mouth guards
    I went to:
    Consultorio Dental
    Dra. Mariela Valencia Cortés
    Ortodoncista
    Tel: 732 49 89
    Open: 10am-2pm, 5pm-8pm
    Guanajuato City, Guanajuato, Mexico

    She seemed very knowledgable and good at explaining things in simple terms! If I have the opportunity to do dental work in Mexico in the future, I'll definitely consider it.

    Chipped my tooth from playing in a basketball league in Ciudad Guzman, got it fixed going to a small dental office the next day for 400 pesos! No appointment required and cheaper than what the co pay would be in the US

      Ouch! And only 400 pesos?! Wow!
      We love Ciudad Guzmán. May used to work there when we first met 10 years ago. It's a nice little town.

    Thanks for the video. It's excellent. I go to Nuevo Progreso and get all my dental work done there for 1/5th the price in the USA. The dentist is an oral surgeon who does mostly implants but he does a great job on small er things too. Dental care in USA is simply too expensive for me in USA, sad to say. BTW, there are some fabulous dentists in Saigon nowadays also. 3-D CAT Scan in Saigon at a super modern clinic is less then $65.

    That is great. Last year I spend 2, 500 in two molars. My friend from Aguas Caliente would tell me to take a plane there and I was going to savea lot. But I already was sitting on the endodontist seat. So I did it all at Puerto RIco.

    Thanks much for this video-am going to Guanajuato soon and definitely need a dentist. Was nervous, but she seemed very nice. Was she the dentist or hygenist? As you know dentists do not clean teeth in the U.S. My main question is does she speak English as my Spanish is too weak for dental talk. Thanks much!

    Don't get amalgam fillings. They have some mercury in them and there are dentists who specialize in removing them safely because of the mercury. I'm actually disappointed that this dentist even offered them.

    I had teeth laminates done Delta Maya dentistry in downtown Cancun 2012 and it's just recently that they have pretty much worn out. 10 years! I had another tooth that an American dentist would have wanted to do a root canal on in a heartbeat, and that one's still good to go as well--NO ROOT CANAL!! I can't remember the actual cost but it was a fraction of what these gold mongers do here in the states. The savings and EFFICACY well covers the $$flight!!! My dentist there, in downtown Cancun, was overwhelmed at the amount of mercury in my head. Maybe I should plan extended stay and get some of that stuff taken out. It's tens of thousands of dollars to do that here in the United States.

    I've had dental work done in Costa Rica and Colombia, both super cheap and excellent service. In Costa Rica my wife and I both got deep cleanings for about $100-120 total. My deep cleaning in Colombia was around $60.
    The crazy thing about my visit in Colombia is that the $60 include a dental exam the day before AND the actual appointment the next day.
    I've never personally had work done in Mexico, but I did go with a friend. He walked in with no appointment and it was super cheap as well. This was in Tijuana.
    Definitely a huge cost savings and in my experience it's totally worth the trouble to visit the dentist when traveling if you can.
    How about the eye doctor Jim? Have you found contacts and eye glasses to be cheaper?

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  4 роки тому

      Thanks for sharing! Yes, I have gone to the eye doctor in Mexico. Just last summer actually. I spent about $120 USD which included an appointment with the optometrist, a new prescription, and a new pair of glasses with clip on sunglasses. Ben & Frank are the company I used in Guadalajara. Maybe I’ll make a video about that next time we’re in Mexico. I hope you’re doing well, Rodney! Un saludo. -Jim

    Thanks Jim for taking us behind the scenes, Awesome! You conversed so naturally! As a beginning Spanish learner, I wouldn’t of been able to keep up! I know Guanajuato is more heavy on Spanish than more Expat areas so I imagine the hygienist being frustrated in trying to explain over and over. I will watch this over and over and perhaps take a “Medical Tourism” trip back to Guanajuato!

    Canadian dentists are even more expensive than USA dentists. I only go to a hygienist in Canada. Any major work will be done in mexico. Oh yes the cleaning in Canada by a hygienist is $100 and thats considered cheap because if you went to a dentist in Canada cleaning is above $150. Dentists here charge as if everyone is employed by a big company and has full dental benefits. Of course those jobs don't exist here any more. I remember saying to my dentists if the profession don't adjust prices to reflect the new economic realities people will go to cheaper countries.

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  4 роки тому

      Wow... Yeah, I can see why you'd go elsewhere too. For some procedures, it's probably cheaper to go to Mexico even when you include the price of the plane ticket. Thanks for watching, Dave! -Jim

      That's ok. There are native Spanish speakers who cannot roll their Rs. It doesn't mean you won't be able to speak Spanish! Here's a Mexican woman who can't do it: ua-cam.com/video/oyoWkZPwDrg/v-deo.html
