  • For freedivers using the mouthfill, there are 101 ways to 'learn' the skills and techniques required for mouthfill equalization.
    However, learning a skill doesn't mean it's going to automatically apply to your diving. For that you happen you actually need to 'PRACTICE' it's application in an effective way.
    Here are 2 'PRACTICE' exercises and targets within each exercise, each applicable to either 'beginner' and 'intermediate+' Mouthfillers.

    This advice is very valuable. MF/EQ really should be practiced on RV/FRC - at least it worked wonders for me. Was constantly swallowing at the same dept for a whole year (!), then after only RV and MF from surface for a few weeks, I could add 20 meters to my depth PB. Apart from using the MF while diving in RV, I suspect there are also physiological adaptations taking place that reduce or eliminate any "MF sabotage" on full lung dives. I came back to this video by chance, should have added this to my training earlier. Thanks Nathan!

    Could you make a video how to do a dry training of mounthfill? Practices with EQ tools, empty and full lung? thanks

    You made an excellent point about learning vs. practicing. The FRC diving is the best advice for me since I only have access to about 30 meters locally. I have been practicing it this summer and finally see some improvement. Thank you so so much!

    Thanks a lot Nathan, this is very very useful for me!
    Just finished my session of rv dives to 12/14 mt with mouthfill at surface. Since I always go with a mask, wonder what would be the difference if I was only with pinchnose and no mask.
    (My actual pb is 50 with mask)
    Thank you again from Italy!😊

      Personally I see very little difference between EQing the mask and noseclip. If you have good mask technique / management, maybe on RV you gain 1-2m since the main limit is the chest, and +/- 5m on full lungs. If there's a massive difference (like 15-20m more with noseclip Vs mask) you're probably doing something wrong with the mask..

      @@ageo65 I use the noseclip only because I prefer to freefall with both hands by my side for easier balance & it allows arrow position for the descent with mono / bi fins.. not for eq haha..

    Great video but why should it be exclusively FRC or RV sessions? In opposition to a mixed training session with some equilization exercises. Thanks.

      Hey Eric,
      Sorry I just saw this now.
      If a diver has nearly unlimited training time (let's say they live in Dahab or similar place) I'd normally recommend only doing FRC or RV for the session (1x per week).
      However, if you're like a normal person who only has 1-2x deep sessions per week, then of course mixing RV/FRC with other training is what's required.
      How I do it, is start the session with the exhale exercise & then after wards do a shallow 50-60% PB stuff on inhale is fine.. But If I'm getting to the 60-80% PB training, of course, then I wounldn't mix the two.

    I still don’t know what the mouth full technique is or how to do it

    my problem is when the head is facing down can't equalize

    • @trainfreediving2772
      @trainfreediving2772  2 роки тому +4

      Normally, when divers cannot EQ head down (but they can head up) is usually just a technical or tension issues. Probably you're not comfortable in this position and it's causing you to either make a technique mistake (without realizing) or you are getting very tense in your neck / shoulders / throat.
      A relatively simple solution to train this is to;
      -Practice your EQ dry until it's very easy and automatic to do (you should have an instructors make sure you have proper technique first)
      -Then, in a pool, you can place your legs on the side of the pool so you can hang upside down with you back against the side-wall. Then just practice your EQ (same a dry) just upside down in the water.
      -Once that is very easy, you can try again in open-water.. BUT it's very important that you start with the line at only 5m and work this depth until you can do it with perfect body position & multiple clear EQs before trying to do more.
