I don’t agree with criticizing early stages for being “too simple” because the game is played by “returning players.” You have to remember, even though there’s been Mario games in the past, it’s still a brand new game that needs to start off easy for newer players.
When you consider that a newer player wouldn't be looking at a ranking of levels video and would instead watch it when they've played either that game or a lot of other mario games where beginner 'easy' levels are extremely dull. Im willing to side with him on this point...most early mario levels are ridiculously boring.
I'm not sure how much I agree with the idea that Mario games are "mostly" played by returning players. But even if it's true, Nintendo markets and designs the games mainly for young and relatively inexperienced players. Something they have specifically said is that they try to assume every Mario game is going to be played as someone's first video game ever.
And they have a good point. My very first Mario game was Super Mario Galaxy. I don't know where it stands chronologically with all Mario games, but it was the 3rd 3D game released so you can have an idea. I wasn't in a position where i could get my hands on the copies and much less the consoles for 64 and Sunshine. It's unfair to expect every single person to have played all previous Mario games.
If Mario games are played "mostly" by returning players, then how did the first Super Mario Bros game become a success? It had no returning players That argument makes no sense 😂
I think calling Bonus stages "boring" is unfair. They're not supposed to be challenging. They're supposed to be short and easy. Same goes for the switch palaces in SMW. Also, the most boring level in Super Mario Land 2 was "In the Trees". This is the level where you float through the tree sap and it is slow and tedious. Not to mention, you have to play it at least twice because it had a secret exit.

And they didn't even make any music for it, they just reused the Secret Level music, and it get so annoying after you just sit there for a half hour or so with all the stars. The hotel beach level in sunshine rocks. The indoor setting is unique in a series where we're mostly outside and exploring the hotel especially star 3 is always interesting. It also has one of very few shadow Mario chases that doesn't feel boring. While I don't think it's necessarily bad but noki bay in a few missions is a bit boring and somewhat annoying.
Sirena beach in sunshine is oddly one of my favorite levels. Because its unique factor, where a majority of the shines are more puzzle based instead of platforming focused. Its a really interesting change of pace from previous levels
In super Mario bros 3, world 2-2 holds a secret. If you collect 30 coins in there you get a white mushroom house. It holds an anchor which prevents the airship from moving if you die during the level
Also, every world holds a white mushroom house except for world 8. 1-4 if you collect 44 coins or more … then I forget the other worlds. The odd worlds give a p-wing and the even worlds give an anchor
In SMB3, I completely disagree with World 2-2, but that is because it has one of the most difficult white mushroom houses to unlock, which is how I always play the level.
The Lost Levels were also released as bonus content for Super Mario Bros Deluxe on the Game Boy Color, and the graphics weren't remastered as they were on the GBA
I've always wanted yoshis island to be included in these vids. Was pleased [and surprised!] to see an appearance in this vid! It would be cool to see a compilation of previous video topics, but for Yoshi's island. Probably my fav mario game, alongside SMW.
SMB3: The Hand Trap levels are basically the equivalent to the wandering [Weapon] Bros/Muncher stages in other worlds, and I don't think they should be counted as regular levels. Plus, it's a cool novelty to see all the different Bros together (and one of only two places Fire Bros. exist in the game at all). And it's weird that you criticize them by saying you can fly over them, then cut away right before a part where there's a wall that you can't fly over (and if you try to fly, it then kills your momentum and makes it harder to get under the wall, punishing players for trying to take the easy way out). Also, World 2-2 is one of only 7 stages in the game that lets you trigger a White Toad House. Collecting the coins on the moving platform (particularly considering the limited time associated with the P-Switch) is a decent challenge, especially so early in the game. Nothing revolutionary, but certainly enough to elevate it above the most boring stage in the game. Granted, it's not NECESSARY, but there are plenty of stages that are made interesting due to secrets or collectibles, rather than their main path/objective.
If there’s a boring level in Yoshi’s Island, it’s one that focuses on Yoshi’s transforming into a helicopter or train. I remember Yoshi’s island being my favorite Mario game.
the question mark levels in 3D land don’t rly count as levels tho…. you could’ve talked about actual levels, since the question mark boxes aren’t meant to be actual levels or exciting they’re just there to collect gold coins
3:20 "That was only released in Western markets in the Super Mario All Stars SNES collection" Super Mario Bros Deluxe for the GBC (which did have the JP SMB2 as an unlockable): Am I a f'ing joke to you!?
Well, for SMG1 the most boring Galaxy is by far Sea Slide Galaxy: Its stars are : a race, another race, find silver stars, yet another race, the WORST and most BORING purple coins ever and... A pretty good secret star though. As for Mario 3D Land, 3-2 is my favorite level :c
With most of these entries being debatably wrong, it just goes to show how well crafted Mario games are, and how hard it really is to call levels "bad"
SMG2: I mean, this kind of thing is obviously going to come down to opinion, but it feels like you had an idea in your head for what "Throwback" should be, and were just disappointed it wasn't that. I don't see anything particularly wrong or "boring" about focusing on one particular throwback level instead of doing a mash-up or whatever. Like, recontextualizing it by getting around with the Cloud Suit, revamping the Whomp King fight...it was a little nostalgia trip with a couple surprises thrown in, pretty much the ideal for a one-off idea like this. And I'm kinda struggling to understand why you're saying Whomp's Fortress is something we've seen over and over again. I mean, yes, a lot of people who have played Super Mario 64 have probably replayed it many times, but that's...kind of up to them? Ultimately, Whomp's Fortress has only been in SM64, SM64DS, and SMG2. When I think of something being "boring" because we've seen it a ton, I think of something like Green Hill or Chemical Plant in Sonic (or, to keep it Mario, SMB's 1-1).
in SMB: 3 level 2-2, if you get every coin, it unlocks a bonus-game in the overworld; this adds a challenge because the p-block coins on the moving platform have to be collected all in one go
8:29 calling this boring is kinda missing the point You’re supposed to suck in the atmosphere and appreciate what’s around you, which is why you go around collecting the coins It’s a very interesting way of celebrating how far you’ve come, and I’d even say it’s a better reward than Galaxy 2’s perfect run, because it lets you relax and appreciate all the little intricacies of the game you spent so long to beat. You did it, you can relax now.
in SMB1: 3-2 is supposed to be about kicking koopa shells into other enemies and there is at least one spot where you get a 1up from hitting enough enemies. You don't like the level because you are playing it wrong. And with five reused stages, you'd think you'd pick one of those. SMB2, I find some of the stages in world 3, 5, and 6 to be more forgettable. Like, 6-2 is bland and short, but no, you picked 6-1, a decent desert challenge. SMB3, the hand traps are supposed to be quick and give you leaves, which is important if you used the whistle to get to world 8. The one with the hammer bros is interesting, the other two are more bland. 2-2 is the player's second introduction to water after seeing small ponds in 1-5. Also, if you get all the coins on the platform, you get the white mushroom house. SMB3 generally has short levels so the themes it does, rarely lose their welcome. A lot of the autoscroll levels can be boring though. For SMW, the switch palace is about figuring out the puzzle with how the get the 1up, except for the first one, which is just coins and is bland. The second starworld level is more about getting the yoshi and finding the secret exit. Most of the starworld levels are not challenging as they are a puzzle to solve and novelty. I'm glad you are going to include Yoshi's Island going forward, I consider it SMB5 and Nintendo kind of sees it that way too. I think I agree with Dire Dire Docks. I was born in 1982 and I have far less nostalgia for the later Mario games as I didn't play the over and over. I did Sunshine once, Galaxy twice, Odyssey once, and most of the NSMB games once, except the one with all the coins. So I sometimes stop watching after SM64.
As Mario 3d Land’s number 1 fan, i have to say that the most boring level not being an auto scroll level is criminal. Take S2-1, this level is so long that i actually beat it crouched down.
I feel some people misunderstand the point of Grand Finale Galaxy. It's not really supposed to be interesting mechanically. Its main purpose is to give the player the opportunity to experience the Star Festival from the beginning of the game in a peaceful manner as a reward for 100%, as a poetic ending
Interesting take on this video. I agrees with most. But i tbink we should be mindful thst any of these Mario games can be a first for someone and their largest target are children/family games. So maybe a kid wouldnt kno already how to avoid the piranha plants, and thats ok. Would still loke to see vidoes like this in the future.
What I'd personally go with instead for Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 would be; Honeyclimb Galaxy for Super Mario Galaxy and Honeyhop Galaxy for Super Mario Galaxy 2.
The switch levels in SMW are pretty boring, that was my only complaint about that game. I’ve played A LOT of SMW hacks though where they actually make the switch palaces pretty damn interesting and fun, like ACTUAL levels instead of just big rooms with switches in them. Which makes them a lot more satisfying to find in the long run.
For Super Mario Bros Wonder I would have chosen that one level early on in the game (can't remember the name) whose Wonder mechanic just gives you a Starman and you sprint to the finish. Its visually appealing at first but on returning playthroughs it just feels like a waste of an idea for a Wonder Flower.
How do you feel about watching paint dry? Because a lot of these are being called boring because they aren't very engaging and don't ask the player to do much.
@ninshu9073 And I don't know what YOU'RE on about. I never said anything about early levels. I said it's mostly levels that don't ask much of you. Though I will amend that as well and add a number of levels with really high requirements to get into, so they're just underwhelming when they turn out to be mid.
@@zehkiel8018 early levels tend to be the ones that don’t ask much of the player. anyways, i still stand by what i said, almost none of them shown are boring and this video feels forced lol, most of them require you to be engaged
There was one boring level for me in Yoshi island. There is a cave level that loops around until you find the exit. If you don't find the way out it's very boring. Edit: The Cave Of The Mystery Maze. There is also "Poochy ain't stupid". Poochy is stupid and that level is also stupid 😂.
i like most of the levels you mentioned 😅 also i don't consider the switch palaces levels in SMW. they were fun, I always felt it was like a party when I was a kid and managed to finally find a palace
Hey pal your videos are cool and all. But i wanted to say that in a lot of your "every Nintendo franchise" video you forget some like earthbound or fzero. Regardless, your videos are cool
The most broing levels in smb3 is definitely the airship levels. Any level that forces you to play slowly while being punishing when you lose is just garbage
World 3-2 in the 1st game wasn’t so boring. I thought it was fun running through the enemies. Better yet, skip the star, kick a shell & get an extra life.
Yikes. Every pick on this list seems controversial. I stopped at 7:14 because ain’t no way he thought Sirena Beach was the most boring level in SMS. We not doing this today 😂😂😂
SMW: By far the most boring (for me) is Forest of Illusion 2 - it's the water level that takes fucking forever, has zero interesting or difficult parts, makes you wait multiple times for the urchins to pass, and if you're trying to do 96 exits you have to swim the entire thing twice because the secret exit is all the way at the end. I've hated this level for like 30 years.
The original have has a definite most boring level, and it ain't 3-2, it's 7-4. The maze aspect is poorly implemented here, notably worse than the 4-4 and 8-4 mazes, and even moreso, once you _do_ learn the route, there are barely even any token obstacles, save for the very beginning of the level, and Bowser at the very end. The level is just so... empty. Also, kicking Koopa shells is fun in and of itself, and that's the big appeal of 3-2! Definitely not the most boring level by any stretch. 😋
The very fact you meet a Fire Bro was reason enough for me to consider this level interesting in SMB3 Also, why do you tend to equate short with boring or forgetable? These are entirely different things. edit: Okay, the rest is even becoming less and less relateable... the SMB 9-3 was so strange to me, it became interesting and fascinating in itself. The Cave in SML1 is probably one of the best levels in my opinion in the entire game. The U boot Auto-scroller is probably the most boring, or the pyramide to me. In SMW calling Bonus Stages "boring" because "not much in there" is also kinda strange to me. And here as well. "empty" does not mean "boring". In most levels you just run around and collect things while dodging enemies. And again, the critic of "I wish they were longer"... what has "longer to do with "interesting"? There are a lot of long boring levels. In fact, having a very long level is a good sign it could be potentially boring. Maybe you missed the title and acutally meant "empty levels" idk. The Colorful Yoshis themselves are reason enough to find these stages interesting. In Sun Shine, and this is why I thought your Video is promising, the Beach area could qualify as the most boring one, not meaning it is boring, but it is the most linear one and has a lot of waiting due to the Sandbird. Why you critize The Hotel level for its ambiente, while this is the most detailed one, is beyond me. How this level is boring, I cannot relate at all. Maybe here too, you are looking for another word, such as "cozy" or "sleepy"? However, this, again, does not mean 'boring'. The Piranha Stage in NSMB was always one of the rather interesting ones. Is 8-2 with the switching water and repeating spiders really more interesting to you than a stage completely built on pipes with Piranha Plants from different angels and types? Or the 2-6 Stage on the moving platform? Your criticism here again is memorability and "too easy", which is, once again, not what the term 'boring' means. Basically same thing in NSMBW, it was more of the rather unique and explorative levels of the game. You say it is "boring" because "there is no ris anymore " (when you ahve a power up). Isn't the very fact you want to have a power up to make a level easier a good indicator this level is something special and engaging? This already has been an issue on your take in SMB3. I have no opinion on your take on SMG cause I don't like that game in general, and thus have nothing to say about it. At this point I also want to stop watching this video. I usually don't give dislikes on opinion videos, since various factors play into an opinion and taste is not subject to analysis, and to value the effort to put the video data together, but here, I make an exception. Not only can I not relate tot hem at all, the reasoning behind it makes no sense at all. It seems the criticism can be applied to other levels as well, but you choose to apply this to these ones (for example, a level gets too easy with a specific power up. Is it really something special to this one?) or it feels you had no idea what the level is about. Often, you even seem to miss your own aim for the video. When you say "boring" and then say "too easy" or "forgetable", but present it as not "boring at all", when there is something terribly wrong. I do not want to pull you down, but I think these things need to be said in order for better quality in future videos. Please don't take this personal, but as a few points to think about and what can be improved on future videos. I see the passion is here, but the structure is clearly lacking. Analyse the mistakes in this video and work on articulating yours thoughts, a skill coming in handy both in real-life as well as when making videos, and I am sure, your future videos will have a better like/view-ration. with best regards

Can someone explain why the castle looks like that at 3:57?
I was wondering that too
I agree that NSMB 3-2 has Boring level Design but it is a very good level to farm points and 1 ups. It made it very special back then.
in SMB: 3 level 2-2, if you get every coin, it unlocks a bonus-game in the overworld; this adds a challenge because the p-block coins on the moving platform have to be collected all in one go
Did you forget about operation poplin rescue?
Serena beach was honestly peak for me in sunshine, surprised to see it on here.
Underrated video
That goddamn phantom manta was the bane of my youth for a more than considerable amount of time.
8:29 calling this boring is kinda missing the point
You’re supposed to suck in the atmosphere and appreciate what’s around you, which is why you go around collecting the coins
It’s a very interesting way of celebrating how far you’ve come, and I’d even say it’s a better reward than Galaxy 2’s perfect run, because it lets you relax and appreciate all the little intricacies of the game you spent so long to beat.
What I'd personally go with instead for Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 would be;
Honeyclimb Galaxy for Super Mario Galaxy and Honeyhop Galaxy for Super Mario Galaxy 2.
I personally don't see Blue Bowser as being Bowser's brother. But as another member of his species.
So basically his brother
@@pickletickle8407
I mean in the sense he's from the same overall species, but isn't related to Bowser's actual family.
@chunkyzamboni8407 being from the same species =/= being his brother.. Are you dense?
@@FindingsOfAnArmouredMind They don't have to be related biologically to call themselves brothers
nintendo themselves referred to blue bowser as his brother
I remember this super Mario bros, & the super Mario bros 2 & super Mario bros 3 I used to play that all the time
In mario 3, World 2-2 has a secret where if you can get every coin, a bonus will appear after you finish the level
Yoshi's Island too good to be on this list. Yet another win for this unstoppable juggernaut.
Sirena Beach is like the second best level of Mario sunshine 🙉🏨
Pretty cool to see all these takes on Mario levels 😌
Anyone else feel like adding bonus rooms is kinda cheating? I don't consider those levels.
How did you find the world 9 in Lost Levels?
Let’s a-go!
9:37 what do you mean by "they're just not"? they're not what? attacks? did an ai write this
The switch levels in SMW are pretty boring, that was my only complaint about that game. I’ve played A LOT of SMW hacks though where they actually make the switch palaces pretty damn interesting and fun, like ACTUAL levels instead of just big rooms with switches in them. Which makes them a lot more satisfying to find in the long run.
You neglected to mention the fact that you can swim right over Star World 2. I've never not done it.
I get a particular joy in grown ass adults forgetting that children exist and also play video games 😂
Mario Sunshine: The whole game
For Super Mario Bros Wonder I would have chosen that one level early on in the game (can't remember the name) whose Wonder mechanic just gives you a Starman and you sprint to the finish. Its visually appealing at first but on returning playthroughs it just feels like a waste of an idea for a Wonder Flower.
What's bad about bonus levels?
almost none of these are actually boring
How do you feel about watching paint dry? Because a lot of these are being called boring because they aren't very engaging and don't ask the player to do much.
@@zehkiel8018 early stages aren’t even a trend in this video idk what you’re on about
@ninshu9073 And I don't know what YOU'RE on about.
@ninshu9073 Clearly there's disagreement here, then. Not that it really matters.
putting throwback galaxy is crazy bro
3-2 is designed that way to trick the player. If you don't get the star you can kick the koopas and get some 1ups.
The most boring Mario channel: You- if you continue like this!
Gonna have to disagree on SMB 3-2. That’s one level that I really like in that game. It sticks out because it has such an unusually flat layout
These are some of the coldest takes of all time
Looks like you forgot about Mario Maker 2 the levels in the story mode or Mario Maker 1 when doing the 10 Mario Challenge.
Yoshi's Island is a yoshi game, not a mario one. Its great regardless of its subgenre.
3:53 WHOA! what happened to that castle?!
I hate that level lol I remember struggling with it
i like most of the levels you mentioned 😅 also i don't consider the switch palaces levels in SMW. they were fun, I always felt it was like a party when I was a kid and managed to finally find a palace
The throwback galaxy in galaxy 2 is what made me want to get the game.
Yeah I think it’s pretty cool when there are level remakes or homages looking forward to getting to the mushroom kingdom galaxy in odyssey
Hey pal your videos are cool and all. But i wanted to say that in a lot of your "every Nintendo franchise" video you forget some like earthbound or fzero. Regardless, your videos are cool
9-3 from Mario Bros The Lost Levels feels like a beta stage
The most broing levels in smb3 is definitely the airship levels. Any level that forces you to play slowly while being punishing when you lose is just garbage
Most of these are supposed to be bonus levels which I feel like shouldn’t be counted.
World 3-2 in the 1st game wasn’t so boring. I thought it was fun running through the enemies. Better yet, skip the star, kick a shell & get an extra life.
I don't use the star to get more points and 1ups on 3-2 SMB1
3-B is in fact my favourite level in New Super Mario Bros.
Yikes. Every pick on this list seems controversial. I stopped at 7:14 because ain’t no way he thought Sirena Beach was the most boring level in SMS. We not doing this today 😂😂😂
I don’t appreciate how you skipped Super Mario Bros. Special
The best Mario game.
Of course they design for new players, it would be painful for newbies if the game was too hard.
Wait! You didn’t mention the Drill Cap levels. Those are definitely… boring levels… ~
Title should be ‘every SUPER Mario game’ was looking forward to the paper Mario games
new super mario bros u deluxe:
*The whole game*
Remember Nintendo likes to cater towards families so there is a lot of hand holding bin Nintendo games
I wish he didnt give the intros for each game anymore lol he says the same thing every time but the rest is perfect
Calling Throwback Galaxy boring is crazy
Me: any level in Odyssey
What about Mario vs donkey Kong?
SMW: By far the most boring (for me) is Forest of Illusion 2 - it's the water level that takes fucking forever, has zero interesting or difficult parts, makes you wait multiple times for the urchins to pass, and if you're trying to do 96 exits you have to swim the entire thing twice because the secret exit is all the way at the end. I've hated this level for like 30 years.
nooooo i love sirena beach
The original have has a definite most boring level, and it ain't 3-2, it's 7-4. The maze aspect is poorly implemented here, notably worse than the 4-4 and 8-4 mazes, and even moreso, once you _do_ learn the route, there are barely even any token obstacles, save for the very beginning of the level, and Bowser at the very end. The level is just so... empty.
Also, kicking Koopa shells is fun in and of itself, and that's the big appeal of 3-2! Definitely not the most boring level by any stretch. 😋
The very fact you meet a Fire Bro was reason enough for me to consider this level interesting in SMB3
Also, why do you tend to equate short with boring or forgetable? These are entirely different things. edit:
Okay, the rest is even becoming less and less relateable... the SMB 9-3 was so strange to me, it became interesting and fascinating in itself.
For me this is the first new video since I subbed
3:54
Wtf is going on with that castle
You can get 6 1-ups in 3-2 by not getting the star
New super Luigi u was not just dlc but also a full released physical game. Which I bought. I never bought new mario bros u. Only player Luigi u physical game and I never found it hard. Maybe cause I'm a master at using Luigi floaty controls. I find him easier to use then mario. I also never beat new super Mario bros Wii found it too hard. Yet Luigi u was easy. As for the hunter levels of Mario wonder. I loved those had me thinking and I love it. I only had to search up a single token in one of those levels that was it
I love throwback ans sweet mystery galaxy! I do not agrre with 3d world and bowser fury and oddsessy. Cloud, i thought it was unquie
