This style of playing is in my everyday approach. I have been told that I’m not aggressive enough. But when I have a good bass player they hear a big difference.
The bass player will always push you if the are melodic and have free range. Playing by yourself frees you up more but also very boring at times especially if you're not really feeling it that day😝
