Seen on Social Media: "Did anyone hear how the vampire's interview went? Did he get the job?" Response: "Yes, but he sucked at it." Please don't block me! Have a good weekend, Emma!
One thing I love about the film is how open-ended it is. We the audience have no idea if Louis chose to become a vampire or not. At the beginning of the film, it certainly seemed that way because when Lestat introduced himself as a vampire all Louis seemed to care about was the immortality portion of being a vampire. It is only when Lestat portrays the negative of being immortal such as loneliness, having to kill, etc that gives him pause. However, Lestat also portrays the positive aspects of a vampire to balance out the negative such as witnessing the ages, and new inventions which allowed him to witness the sun on the big screen after centuries. So now we don't know what choice he's going to make.
I have a prediction I think Louis is going to choose immortality since no-one really wants to die. Louis is portrayed as a man with a conscience which is why I believe Lestat chose him out of thousands of reporters to tell his story to, so I don't see him enjoying killing. However, for a vampire to live they must eat or drink whatever term one likes to use. Lucky for Louis this is not the eighteenth century since we have blood banks all around the city and you can easily bribe someone to deliver to you several portions of blood every week. If you are not a murderer then the choice is simple. The rules state that you couldn't drink from a dead body not that you couldn't drink from fresh blood that is contained in a bag from a person who was or is alive, and as for the loneliness, you can always try to find a companion one who is already a vampire that shares your values like not killing, etc
Cozy and quiet video, l love your way to talk about books .
I promise this has started to become my favourite comfort channel
honoured :')
Hemingway vs Steinbeck should be the next book club once you guys eventually finish the Tolstoy v Dickens one.
2 of my favorite writers!
I come from the future and they are doing it in January 😂
@@majorzhou6150 LOL.
What I love about your book hauls is that they’re not basic tiktok books. It’s refreshing 💕
Honey, The Vampire Lestat is literally the best book of the whole saga, I swear you won’t regret it!!!
your videos are literally the best thing ever for insomnia nights! thank you for creating a safe, sweet space for my mind in those times
you are so so welcome, I'm so happy to hear that - hope you get some rest soon lovely
Interview with a Vampire was my favourite book when I was 14 - and it still is. I love the depth of melancholy gloom. Also, the Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned are still pretty good - in fact I enjoyed a lot of them.
Lady Susan is really great! Its her only epistolary novel but I think she executed it excellently.
The Blue Fox is one of the best books for me - so parabolic, sad and fascinating at the same time. Just love it.
I love a good BOOK HAUL! ❤ btw camera quality is so darn good!
How Much Land Does a Man Need? is an incredible short story. Left me stunned. One of the best short stories I remember reading. Also, Farewell to Arms is fantastic. One of the most propulsive last 100 pages. Another ending that will leave you staring at a wall for an hour lol
the best way to spend a cozy friday night with a cup of tea🧡
On Lestat/Vampire Chronicles: the series changes its purpose/genre after the first book. With the IWTV, Anne Rice had a particular vision & philosophical questions she was exploring from the grief of her young daughter's death. With The Vampire Lestat and the rest of the series, the series becomes a campy supernatural romp (think more 'stereotypical' gothic-y silly melodramatic stories). The rest of the series is neither good nor bad, it's just they are a different type of book than the first one.
My best guess for how you Emma specifically will feel about it is that you'll like IWTV most, and not enjoy the rest of the series as much, unless you can get into the type of camp Anne Rice writes.
Today was a really tough day and I was feeling shit about myself. This is the perfect timing for you to post, I really needed this. Thank you!🍁🍂
I'm so sorry beautiful, I hope the rest of your day looks up - you are amazing and wonderful
@@emmiereads Thank you so much Emma 💗
I love Lady Susan by Austen, I think it's so underrated. There's a quote that's stuck with me in all the years since I've read it - "The spell is removed; I see you as you are." I sometimes just quote it dramatically to myself lmao
Can I say I just freaking loveeeeee the cozy vibe of your videos 😄
thank you so much!!
I'm pretty sure you will love The Vampire Lestat. I mean, he is such a great character to begin with. Don't let the Rock Star stuff put you off. It's only a small part of the book and fits in really nicely. Anyways, the book really managed to scare me, which doesn't happen often. Not a jump scare, of course, but a deep sense of dread and terror that stayed with me for quite a while. It's fantastic!
A surprise Friday video? I am thrilled 🥰 something to watch when I've finished all my school work
I love A Farewell to Arms. Hemingway’s writing is almost like music or painting to me.
Not only the endings, but Hemingway had MANY possible titles before he settled on A Farewell to Arms. It’s interesting to see all the titles because they give us some ideas what might have gone through his mind while writing.
love everything Anne Rice wrote! The Mayfair Witches is epic too. Loved Queen of the Damned and loveddd that movie. When Lestat gets to modern times you may still love it!
We always look forward to your book hauls. May you continue to make great content for us, Emmie. Well wishes to you all the way.
It is enjoyable to see you laughing at goodreads reviews 😂 I personally don’t like reading goodreads comments. But now I’ll give it another try!
Adding in the Goodreads reviews for some of the books was my favorite lolll
I am so excited to see that you bought a copy of Burial Rites! I really hope you love it. I stumbled upon it one day at a second hand book store and bought it having never heard anything about it. One of my most beloved 5 star reads ⭐️
Steinbeck and Hemingway are my favourite authors. I love the idea of reading their war books alongside one another. I might do the same!
I absolutely loved this series (Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice). I read when I was 11 yo. The second book is my favorite.
The Vampire Lestat is definitely an experience. I started reading it a while back, but realised about a third of the way in that I need to be in a certain mindset to really take it in. I'm absolutely going to pick it back up on a day when my analytical side is a little more subdued so I can enjoy it in its entirety.
I went to Iceland in 2019 and loved it so much. Your Iceland vlog made me want to go back right now. I read Burial Rites and loved it. Would also recommend Butterflies in November by Audur Ava Ólafsdóttir. It is about a woman who ends up going on a road trip around Iceland with her best friend’s deaf-mute son
The Vampire Lestat is wonderful, but I love everything Anne Rice wrote.
If you’re looking for more Steinbeck, I really liked Cannery Row and The Moon is Down. They’re quite different form each other but they’re both worth reading and they’re short and easy. The story behind The Moon is Down is really interesting too. I haven’t read his longer books but someday I’ll get around to them.
ooh yes I actually have Cannery Row on my shelf! can't wait to pick up more of his work
Oooh book hauls are my fave!
Steinbeck’s east of Eden is one of my favorite books, it’s a chunky baby I know and it looks scary but you enjoy the experience of reading it so much that you barely notice its chunkiness
This was so cozy with the lighting and the books I’ve never heard of. Loved it. ❤
I loved Once There Was a War! Probably my favorite nonfic Steinbeck after Travels with Charley ❤
This is the coziest corner of the Internet. I have my cup of tea and blanket, here we go!
This channel is the definition of comfort. Emma being the comfort character. 💜💜
I read Burial Rites earlier this year. It is very well written and treats the subject matter well. The author did a great job exploring the psychology of the characters.
You have always been my comfort youtuber. Your voice and content are just so calming. Thank you Emma! ♡
written by levin while he was drunk is absolutely genius
I loved burial rites, I felt cold to the marrow of my bones as I read it. Also really liked her The Good People. As an Irish person I assumed she would not be able to capture the nuances of our history, culture, traditions but she nailed it. Really atmospheric as well.
I read the Pearl immediately followed by The Old Man and the Sea. I hadn’t thought of how well that worked out until you did this video! They both made me appreciate the universality of struggle. Oh! Btw, when you said you aren’t a big fan of historical fiction, I thought you said struggle fiction for a sec and now I really want that to be a genre.
funny!!
I read A Movable Feast many many years ago. I gave it five stars hands down. And I don’t give five stars that easily. I still get a warm fuzzy feeling when I think of this book. Thanks for reminding me of it. I definitely need to reread it to see if it still gives me the same feeling as it did when I first read it.
im reading the vampire lestat right now!! the amc show has bewitched me body and soul, it’s so good
im like 100 pages in and it’s so good!!! it gives his character so much depth
the vibes of this video emmieeeee 😍😍😍, there is currently a book festival in my home country and i also got myself a copy of northanger abbey, our minds
ah what a coincidence, love that - also a book festival sounds amazing:')
@@emmiereads it is one of my favorite things since living in the big city, hope you are having more fun living in toronto
Emma, i love Interview With The Vampire too, and a friend of mine said the series goes well until book 3. Loved the haul with Steinbeck, Austen, Hemingway and Tolstoy. Happy readings! 💖📚💖
I just borrowed A Farewell to Arms from the library & the edition I got also has the alternate endings along with some original texts with the edits from Hemingway. I’m really excited to read it & look at the all the different changes he made!
From Kiš i really recommend encyclopedia of the dead! It's just so good! Great haul!!
I've been wanting to try some Halldor Laxness. What a cozy haul ☺️
This cozy bookshelf made me feel so wonderful. Gonna go get Behrendt now and read in bed with a cup of tea 🍵
Now I want to read Goodreads reviews on the books I have read. 🤣🤣🤣. It seems funny
I heard that Heaven and Hell is a trilogy. I read this one before, I really don’t know about the others.
I really like it and as you said the writing!
Only the first three books in the vampire chronicles are worth reading imo… and interview is the only one that’s actually masterful.
i studied burial rites in high school because hannah kent is an australian writer! one of the few books i loved from hs
A Moveable Feast is one of my favorite books.
Can’t get enough of cozy Emma 🥰
the atmosphere in your videos always get to me. I cant explain it. amazing video !!🤍
Read the entire vampire chronicles they are all amazing! I’m on book 12 but waiting because I don’t want it to end lol
Aaahh I’ve been meaning to read A Moveable Feast because I’ll be going to Paris next year and it’s a no brainer to read it before or while there. My first Hemingway was The Old Man And The Sea and I LOVED it! Highly recommend that too for anyone trying to get into Hemingway because it’s short and sweet but packs a punch
reading it in paris would be the coolest thing ever!!
@@emmiereads I’m thinking more and more I’ll have to read it there!
I read it all in one go a month after I moved to Paris earlier this year, sitting in a café by the Seine. I highly recommend doing the same! I hope you enjoy your time in this magnificent city!
I love The Vampire Lestat because it is character-focused, and I love following nuanced characters and the morally gray/byronic hero tropes. But, if you want something with a fast paced plot, or even a well-paced plot, you might not like it as much. I remember it being very slow in the beginning and middle, and then it really sped up toward the end, that it felt a bit like whiplash😅 But I was able to forgive this because I really loved Lestat's character
Just today, I took out my 10-year-old copy of Burial Rites and thought I should probably reread it. I remember loving it!
So cozy, loved it! hope you get some rest 🌼
I also love reading Goodreads reviews. For me, the best part about reading Moby Dick was - while I was reading it - reading reviews on goodreads by people also hating on Moby Dick. They were hilarious.
The new adaptation of Interview with the Vampire its amazing!!! You should definitly watch it!
I started the first episode and definitely want to get more into it!!
Interview with The Vampire was the book that got me into reading at 15, so I was really excited to continue the series, but unfortunately, The Vampire Lestat turned out to be one of my biggest disappointments. I remember dnfing it after a few chapters and then trying to forget it existed 😂
okay but the thumbnail literally made me stop scrolling, the lighting looks sooo cosy 🤌🏻
Just when I needed her the most she came back
crazy enough most people I know always state that the vampire lestat is actually the peak of the trilogy! I really love it too and I also advice reading the graphic novel version which is incredible. Queen of the damned is also veyr fun, I think its worht reading all three for sure, i think its worth your time indeed
I loved 'The Blue Fox'.
I get so calm when i watch your Videos 😊
You can use Danilo Kiš for Serbia on your around the world chalange. His most famous work is "Early Sorrows: For Children and Sensitive readers". He really is intriguing writer and one of the best from my country 😁
Ugggghhhh I'm so excited for you to read A Farewell to Arms! I loved it, and although it has a plot, Hemmingways stylistic choices are what had me going wild. There's so much movement in his words and it's so rare that the writing itself keeps me going more than the plot
Also I ordered A Moveable Feast because of your rec in a different video! I hope we both have a good time reading hemmingway in the distant future 😄😄
The best thing to wake up to: an emmie video!
A perfect video for a rainy afternoon 🌧
OMG! I Love a lot this type of videos, it's soooo relaxing❤❤❤
Thanks Emma
so glad!! hope you a lovely weekend
I think that Vampire Lestat is just different than the first book it doesn’t Cary the same melancholic vibes. I think it’s an interesting story. I’m that’s what had me put the book down the first time was the beginning. But as it back tracks through his life it’s good. But still not the same richness I think from the first book.
I wrote a few things to comment and deleted all.I just wanted to tell you that this a safe place for me. I might have never read some books you talk about, or I might not understand all the things you say (English isn't my first language. I'm Iranian) but at the end of the day when I want to feel carefree...this would be the place for me... thank you for existing Emma. You bring smile to my face. I'm happy that I found you, your little kitty and your books:).
Such amazing books. Really looking forward to your views on some of them
Hemingway did a lot of rewrites apparently so that might account for all the alternative endings....its excellent whichever way you chose to end it!!
I have to know where you got that sweater! I'm obsessed!
I’ve watched queen of the damned, and every time you mention interview with a vampire I always question why it sounds so familiar? 😂 Until I noticed it was based of the books! I’m defiantly going to be picking up Interview with a Vampire soon:)
Well, I paused your vid at IWTV to see if it was on Kobo and stumbled upon Burial Rites. I read the quick preview and purchased it immediately, then returned to your vid to see it in your hand. Only coincidence I know, but still freaked me out a little. lol.
so weird!!
From hearing you speak about Heaven and Hell and knowing how much you adore conversations and discussions about language, I think you should read Babel! Currently reading it right now and I really want to hear your opinions on it! Much love❤️
You have a wonderful channel. One question and apologies if you have already addressed it. McLuhan famously argued that the medium is the message (or was it the massage)? or both? But my question is whether you think that reading the books with your eyes is a different experience and has a different effect than listening to an audio book? Just as watching Hamlet has a different meaning that reading the play. Although McLuhan would probably have used an example related to Joyce.
it’s a rainy day here so this is perfect
love you the most
I managed to get through The Vampire Lestat, but I just couldn't continue the series; it did not feel like a serious book. Her novel Belinda hit the right notes with a totally different story. But, yeah, the Rice oeuvre is a mixed bag.
Anne Rice's series does go downhill at some point, but there are still jems lying ahead, so no fear, Emma! I suggest you read them all and see for yourself! As for The Vampire Lestat, I absolutely loved it. It was even more unsettling and heartbreaking than Interview.❤️😉
cozy vibes, I love it 💕
If you’re curious about the Vampire Chronicles, I recommend the video ranking of the books by youtuber Maven of the Eventide, who reviews (and loves) all things Vampire. She explains the ones you can skip, the order to read them and how things sort of progress (without too many spoilers) as it goes on. I think it would help you reframe your mind for the upcoming books
The Vampire the Lestat, it is absolutely awesome book. I like Queen of the Damned because of the Story of how the Vampire line started and Maharet and Mekare's story. Also Blackwood Farm is awesome for the story line brings in the Witches (the Mayfair Witches), the Audiobook on this one is So Good, the guy reading it is fantastic. Blood and Gold is also Great, you learn Marius Story back in Rome and Pandora is in that book as well as Lestat. Memnoch the Devil is a good read as well the story of Lestat meeting God and the Devil. Anne Rice is not for everyone, but very good reads, I have read all of hers except the Ann Rampling books, not my style. Love Lasher as well.
Wow emmie I am proud of you read alot of book and you got a lot of fan who respect you
47 endings… well now I need to read some Hemingway! A big gap in my reading, for sure.
Just books 1 and 2 from The vampire chronicles. Also, I'm trying to find a copy of Burial Rites, so far no luck (At least at a reasonable cost, and I spend a lot of money on books). 🤗
Try Rice's 'Witching Hour' - It's her best. From there on it's downward. Then - Clive Barker's 'Imajica'
You absolutely gotta read East of Eden by Steinbeck at some point😊 I actually thought I wouldn't like it at all and than it completely blew my mind (I literally sat there at 4am having an existential crisis of some sort after finishing it😅).
A if your channel isn't comfy enough! 😴 sleepy! I want to read vampire hunter D! He doesn't do interviews 😭 but he would 😭. Ah, how much man does a land need! So cute, love you Emmie 😭💜
Emma, if you don’t love the rest of the vampire chronicles, I really recommend Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice! It’s a lesser known book of hers but I think it’s such a beautiful book. It’s set in eighteenth century Italy and is about the castrati (young boys who were castrated to preserve their singing voices) which sounds like a weird topic but it makes for such a rich exploration of gender, music, passion, and I feel like it is more similar in tone to IWTV than some of her others.. I think you would really like it!
My favorite Anne Rice book. It's soooooo good, I love Tonio. Still think about that book all the time.
@@angelacanedit me too! I have so many highlights in it☺️☺️
Two questions. One, where did you get that sweatshirt? Two, do they have a Bubbles one?
I’m sorry but I MUST know where your buttercup sweatshirt is from. I gasped when I saw it, I love it so much!!! Love your videos ❤
