Imagine, someone who is permanently disabled. Perhaps from the neck down. They can never fulfill their dreams of seeing the Grand Canyon or travelling to Mount Fuji. But we are living in a time where they can.
Imagine when your kids come home from school, and tell you that in Geography they travelled to the North Pole and visited Machu Pichu.
Imagine one day when we can walk around Ancient Rome, walk around on the USS Enterprise (Both of them), take a tour of a bustling medieval city, wander around the Homur Bazzar, stumble through the Trenches at the Somme.
Fuck, I can't wait to get a vive and put my dad in it.
Thank you for not including the Voyager enterprise.
Wasn't Voyager's enterprise called, well, _Voyager_?
Jonathan Hughes Fuck. I forgot.
Jonathan Hughes I mean't the enterprise enterprise. I can't believe I forgot enterprise while talking about the enterprise.
My brother is handicapped, from the neck down...
They have planes for them...
this would be amazing for geo guesser
Once it's a bit less bumpy, yes.
I can't wait for google to streetview everything in stereoscopic 360.
starmaker7099 yea
starmaker7099
I may or may not be working on adding VR to my GeoGuessr android clone
I think throwing teapots at australia is dans longest running joke
Zachary Siegel I missed that joke so much
What video did it originally come from? I can't remember.
Minato284 Universe Sandbox
Minato284 Universe Sandbox
Zachary Siegel i watched That video
We seriously need an extra camera so we can see Dan crawling around on the floor, shouting at it.
YES
Now we need Cities:Skylines in VR
Yes!! That would be brilliant.
or planet coster
I need that
A lot of games would really benefit from a VR version Cities: Skylines being one of them. The one I've been waiting for is KSP, but they only have it in mod form with seated compatibility.
Planet Coaster in VR
29:12 This whole "view" segment just drips with Nostalgia, arguably the best moment of this channel from the 2010s 🥺🥺
"If somebody pushed me right now..."
Rebecca? Please.
I love that you're geeking the hell out over this because it's the type of thing I would geek out over if I had a Vive. One day...
You're not alone
The SilentCaay Channel Same, i'd love to experience VR, but i'm short in cash
I got it, it's glorious.
1 like = $1 for a new htc vive for you sir
Just get the Oculus Rift it’s way cheaper. ($400 rather than $1100) Or if all your really gonna use it for is Google Earth, try the Oculus Go. (Only $99)
"Now were in assassins creed!" 11/10 would be a geographer agian
Assasins creed is my favorite country.
+Al Weighs Wright Mine too..
Damn, dan actually referenced his own video. Ballsy.
+xDJ Rockstar What video?
1,000,000,000 views unspectacular
6:16 reference to 2.5million sub video
20:46 aswell (Universe Sandbox 2 video)
Humble Sim Bundle video.. cough.
for as much comedy as there is in this video, it's genuinely one of the most heartfelt nerdcubed videos in my opinion. dan talking about seeing his old school and flat and how he described those emotions actually made me quite emotional. i come back to this video all the time just because it's one of the most perfect blends of comedy and genuine heart i've seen on youtube, and it's a video that perfectly shows why dan will always be one of my favourite youtubers.
I'd visit my house
You're not alone
Did that. Pretty flat if you ask me. The city close to me is much better looking XD
Bacon King "wow, any where in the world from my own room... let's go home!"
Matthew Campbell
Let's do it! I'd probably go to my school roo
But what if.... there was a completely different house there? DunDunDUN!!!!
i love how in all the time dan's been on youtube, his voice hasn't really changed
He was done with puberty by the time he started, why would it change?
It has, though, in his intonation. The way he carries himself has changed and because of that certain qualities of his voice have changed.
fired
i didn't realise how many replies on this lol wtf
Reminder: Don't give Dan control of the Earth... or control of ANYTHING!
No, matt does
All he'd do is just make lighting.
Except for this channel. This is the only thing he should keep control of. :p
"Why is it that whenever I am given any modicum of power people die?" - Dan
You should have stood on top of the Burj Khalifa
Yextus I was thinking the same thing.
Yextus You know something's wrong when your brain fills that in as Mia Khalifa.
I tried that, they don't have it in 3D sadly...
Jack Baron Then they'll probably have it some time soon.
Ototoxic You realise that would require a real, physical dude to climb to the top with a giant friggin' 360 degree camera rig on his back?
"On a nice day in London"
Whats that?
James Orr
It's an annual event.
It's yo big fat momma!
NotaEpicUsername
At least his didn't cause a tsunami when she took a step into the ocean
pffffft, theres no such thing
I’d class a nice day in London as being, blue sky with few clouds, not too hot not too cold, little if any wind, and not raining.
I’d say something about busy streets and busy Tube, but they’re pretty much always like that when you need them, and nothing can really change that.
That’s just the reality of living in a city, not that I do, but I’ve been to London enough to know that’s the best you can really hope for.
im tempted to buy a vr helmet just for this
So am I xD
Sneffman you should! I have the Rift and use it everyday with no regret! :) with the touch controllers you can point and flick someone off :)
Just for this, don't. not worth the money.
I would use it for other games and stuff but this is a very big selling point for me as the shit in this video makes me wet
I will say the same as i do all others who are considering buying a vr headset.
Unless you are; really fanatical/enthustiatic about it, it is your job, or the price is "throw away" money for you, then you would want to wait a generation or two. (Not sure "throw away" money is a regular english term?)
Its true that the tech is awesome right now, but it will look extremely dated within a few generations, which will also be cheaper and with more uses and content.
I myself are in the fanatical/enthustiatic group :P
when dan stood infront of st. paul's on that building (before the sherlock music kicked in) i knew he might make a sherlock joke todo with jumping off a building or just in general ahha
Same
when was that in the video?
TheManiac201 near the end when he was in london, he said "anyone want to go solve crimes"
Holy shit, when Dan started talking about his old home it made me remember when he was with Rebecca Black and she asked if she could survive a fall from a massively tall office tower, that is the fucking tower right in front of him house!
Rocko7927 *Emma Blackery. But good remembering skills!
Tom Arnott oh, well i was close xD
Imagine if they added literal gravity, you could experience the joy of killing yourself one million times without consequence.
Btw this game=motion sickness
The peripheral vision is removed when he moves around. Dan says this helps with motion sickness.
"The joy of killing yourself" WTF you have values in wrong ways
Where's the fun in that?
Dan mentioned that it doesn't give him motion sickness because of that peripheral-blocker option.
It hurts watching people spend 5 minutes on a game like this and go "ugh you can't do anything" - Thank you for actually appreciating this
Was that scrabble tiles thing a reference to his 1 billion views thing?
Lukas Saunders probably
Yep.
Yeah
no, it was your mum playing Scrabble. OBVIOUSLY
now I'm imagining a giant dan appearing from the side of a building saying "HELLO PROCRASTINATOR'S!"
umm id rather not
this is one of those times I wish I wasn't broke and could get an awesome PC and htc vive to play this game
It costs around $500 for a PC that runs it, just a heads up. However, at that cost most things would probably have slight lag, which might induce motion sickness.
So $500, is that including the cost if the actual headset and controllers
Patrick Star no, I would say a $650-$700 budget for the PC and whatever for the headset you're buying
Patrick Star No, that's only for the computer rig itself (if you built it yourself, buying it prebuilt would cost a lot more). The headset will cost another $800, if you get the Vive (which is the best option), although others are available, and for other consoles/systems as well. The cheapest headset you can get is the Gear VR, which I have, and is only $100, but you have to have a phone that works with it (it doesn't need a console or PC to work), as it uses the phone as the screen, and is nowhere near as good as the other VR headsets, but it works for the price.
it's going to be on the pixel phone and daydream on release
City skylines VR is looking pretty nice...
Chickan Redd OH MY GOD THAT NEEDS TO BE A THING!
Chickan Redd or planet coster earth sized, in VR🔥🔥
So is surgeon sim...that came out for vr 5 minutes ago.
Chickan Redd and they already put in the natural disaster dlc
He's got the whole world in his hands...
[Sylvester Stallone]
_panic breaks out randomly_
[Insert Name] could be a great dick joke
[Insert Name] your name is JOHN EGBERT....
And you are argued over by some people on the internet.
I would be more than okay with making this a series.
Yup, I would watch that. "Nerd3 Tours the world"
Krepidus Dickie Absolutely. Just episodes of him going to famous destinations and saying, "Wow!" for a solid 30 minutes every now and again.
Totally!
*Plays Google Earth VR*
*Searches for world's smallest island*
lol.
Same.
McDonalds island
Bishop's Rock
no man is an island
in my hands...
James Page under his feet JS
James Page I WAS THINKING THAT
I've got the whole wide world...
James Page I got the plants and the creatures
He's got the whooooole world, in his hands!
imagine a giant dan peeking his head out from around a building and shouting "HELLO PROCRASTINATORS!!!!!"
Exactly what I was thinking! XD
Imagine him saying it in the next video
"I want to visit Los Angeles!"
"Alrighty"
*puts VR headset on*
"Now we are in L.A."
"Yay!"
He's got the whole world... in his hands
"2nd biggest piece of shit other than Nigel Farage" lmao
Mr Jai That joke was on point :)
I like it when Dan makes jokes that only English people will understand
+Dusty Potato Or non-English people with a basic understanding of world events.
Still found it funny even though I like and respect the man.
I love it when jokes are not only funny but completely true as well.
If you zoom in on the Hollywood sign you might see severed limbs and maybe a head or two.
why?
The Amnesia Grunt2356 once in a while body parts will show up in that area. Really.
The Amnesia Grunt2356 search it and you might find a few cases.
Franky Ramone well that's kind of messed up
Really?? When has that ever happened? You know how guarded that thing is?
I require a video of your dad experiencing Google Earth VR.
I love when you get so... not really emotional, but almost as if you're at a loss for words, but in a good way. It shows you have true interest, and are emotionally invested in things.
I want to see Dan do a complete series of this. I would watch the crap out of it.
Jealous Hater YES! Each episode he visits a city XD
Complete earth? XD
mazdarati2 Nerdcubed zooms around the planet in VR at godzilla size, trying to find all landmarks.
"round the world in 80 episodes" best series ever!!!
Daniel Paterson
Even at godzilla size he wouldnt finish the series until I'm 30
Just wait until Space Engine VR if you think this is beautiful
That's actually really cool and useful because of the scale, if you are say going on holiday and wanted to work out exactly how far away stuff is from where you are staying then you get a real scale of how far away stuff is from your hotel. Awesome.
In Australia, we may just have a big rock, but at least we don't have to pay a fee to own a TV =P
I've climbed the rock as well and I've stood under the Eiffel Tower. While I'm not sure of the view from the tower, I can say that the rock is a much more "in your face" object.
We don't have to pay a fee to own a TV.....
it's called uluru, we stopped calling it that a while ago
He's talking about the UK, we have to pay £150 a year per household to own any device (TV, computer, I-pad etc )that can receive BBC content. If you don't pay, they will send some people to look at your house, and they will take your devices away from you.
All this from the organisation that protected Jimmy Saville and other child molesters, for fear of being sued.
I.. Jesus, I'm really sorry for you lot, mate
Didn't go to worlds tallest building...
AlsusGaming i cry everytime
IKR the entire video i was screaming BURJ KHALIFA BURJ KHALIFA BURJ KHALIFA BURJ KHALIFA
Burj khalifa?
Tallest building in the world, it's in Dubai, UAE.
Knew that, just making sure it was the actual tallest. Was wrong before with it, memory is shitte.Yoshi_IX
someone needs to make this, but with trains. or planet coaster maps.
hey i like your workshop stuff, didn't expect you here xD
ChickenGames you kidding? this is where i learned about besiege! :P
(if only he did a recap episode, *sigh*)
VR vids like this make me really happy. Thanks, Dan!
This video was pretty cute, seeing Dan get all nostalgic and in a way kind of humbling, Thanks!
Nerd³ Completes...
I had only planned to pop in for a few minutes to see what all the fuss was about but I ended up watching the whole video because I really enjoyed listening to Dan be awestruck by all the sights and views. Leave it to Nerd Cubed to post a video of Google Earth in VR and it actually be fucking spectacular.
When he was on top of his old building and he said it made him really happy to be able to see that again it made me emotional and idk why but it was awesome. Thanks, Dan.
Seeing all this, knowing we can explore and see everything... it makes me so happy. Like, jeez, this is fantastic!
Says "lets get out of America"
Goes to Brazil wich is in America
TheTomasr26 em no South American
He meant he was leaving the US
....which is still part of America....
+Not Tactical Part of South America, an independent continent. If you're referring to the two continents, you've got "the Americas". "America" only refers to the United States of America.
EnergyKnife no it fucking doesn't
23:26 wait a minute that's mt chillad
25:05 wait a minute it's bent
i hope you joking
It's very rare that you feel genuinely happy to see someone else happy, this is one of those moments.
there should be a VR GeoGuesser
Jonny Beag ther is
Man just listening to Dan just fanboy is surprisingly entertaining.
"Anybody want to go solve a crime?"
Wait a sec... could you go to area 51 in this?!
Nope, just search for groom lake. Homey airport ( aka Area 51 ) is the large complex to the south of the lake.
You can, it's just crazy blurry, like North Korea
Laurendahl Gaming you're stupid. One minute of looking around on Google and you'd come up with a better answer. Here are the coordinates: 37°14′06″N 115°48′40″W
mazdarati2 saves me wandering aimlessly around the Navada desert
You used to be able to just search "area 51" and it would bring you right there, not anymore
And no, it isn't blurred out, at all
I want them to do a Simcity or Cities: Skylines or whatever, like this ;) I think that would be awesome.
"Here's Central Park. Somebody filled it with scrabble tiles the other day. No idea who that was." -Daniel Hardcastle, 2016.
My mind is blown from just the concept and this video, I can't fathom how fucking cool it is to actually play that o_o
i am lucky enough to have played this. it is encreadible
Alex Billingham I need to get a vive asap
+Alex Billingham encreadible?
I know you'll likely never see this, but thank you. Thank you for sharing this with us, this little window into your old life. Have a lovely day.
Sometimes I love nerd cubed and sometimes not our best landmark is a big rock but we don't eat crumpets and drink tea like it's an addiction
I have been to Universal studios, and yes, how you were talking about toon land, they did that with the Simpson, a full on Simpsons City unfolds around you as you walk, completely encasing you within the world, it's amazing!
GEOGUESSER VR!!!
Mumatala YES
"Don't worry I won't bomb you with teapots" like if you remember what video that was from
It warms my heart to see Dan so happy.
I wasnt expecting this to take an emotional turn at the end. You really know how to make a video touch people
"oh look it's Australia, don't worry, not gonna throw giant tea post at yoh" AAAA THE MEMORIES, ONLY TRUE NERD FANS WILL GETVTHAT
The Watcher5292 Universe Sandbox 1 and 2 Ahhhhhhh....
Dan.
You can do this for your 3 million sub special and tell your story!
Daniel Paterson long term subscribers know his story, he's told it many times.
Camhin1 Yeah, but he can actually show it this time.
Having been to Ayers Rock and hiking around the base of it, your visit to it in this gave me so much nostalgia back to that holiday that I have decided to get a Vive and play this game. Best advertising right there
love your enthusiasm. it's why I keep coming back 😊👍
imagine if they put easter eggs, we would never find them all
>"Let's get out of America"
>Goes to South America
Good job Dan, good job.
-So you're basically a cross between the space baby from 2001 and Spiderman. You do realise this is where the Matrix crosses with Skynet?
13:08, I had the same experience visiting my old college in VR. Even with the terrible street level rendering, I was able to recognize everything and it felt like I was back there. I got teary and I had to take off the headset for a little while
Still not perfect. It needs the ability to destroy the town by walking on them. I want to become Godzilla.
As someone who will probably never own VR, and I'm sure you would love
to continue experiencing, could we see some more Google Earth VR
exploration videos?
I do this with my oculus rift and its absolutely incredible, it makes you wonder why you're stuck where u are and not traveling to places like the Burmese Highlands, but since u can through Google Earth VR, you can fulfill your incredible desire to see the worlds most beautiful places that will give you shivers down your spine. Its so mind blowing i love it
I got chills when going through disneyland because I used to go there and I remember the entire park........ I moved out of cali when my parents divorced and you just made me super happy thank you!
*You can go anywhere in the world*
Goes straight to house
Who enjoyed this video WAY more than expected. I loved it!
Fun fact, the Eiffle Tower was built to sway in the wind and this movement can cause horrible motion sickness as the body feels the slow movement but the scenery around you doesn't change or move due to the height.
I love how this is less comedic than other videos but it's still great because of how awed Dan is at the experience.
This right here has convinced me I need to get VR asap.
you should do a road trip where you just use goole earth vr and walk through the entire country of The U.K
Kevin Mathieu That would literally take such a long time.
KHCoasterKid or maybe London or, somewhere in England or the world for that matter
This shows so much of what Dan -or whatever his real name is- is... This is just... I don't know... It made me... connect? with the human behind the mic...
Love this video to bits
This is what VR is all about. This is why I hope that VR develops and grows to absolutely amazing quality. VR can give us experiences that we never imagined we would have. I can't wait until VR becomes so realistic that I can experience things that I have always wanted to experience.
Now we just need someone to make an rts in this and I will never see the real world again.
i think you'll see the real world constantly, though.
No, because it is a virtual representation of the real world
Sgt.Boris Who says the one we are living in isn't? Woah!
Now all you need is a treadmill and you can jog round the entire earth... from your living room...
The future is here, people.
really nice touch exiting on the Google Earth VR Music and not the theme song... Kept the feel of the video.
That made me happy to watch. I can't use my Vive at the moment because of life reasons, the room I use for it is all busy. But Google Earth is probably going to replace Tilt Brush for what I play while listening to music.
I think we can all agree that we need a part 2
Dan why do you lob teapots at us Aussies?
Look at one of his humble bundle videos that had universe sandbox in it
Oi! Please don't lob teapots at us dan :(
TehRubrDuk Gaming As all the ghetto memes said, its just a prank bro.
spiders
Ffs we don't have that many spiders here
Actually brought tears to my eyes. This is beautiful
Two years later, and this is still the video that really makes me want VR
And Jesus sat at the right hand of the father... and Dan sat on the right hand of Jesus
Is UA-cam 3D still a thing? Any chance you can upload these things in 3D also so those of us with 3D monitors and glasses can get some effect? I really like watching your VR games, but it really loses a lot of immersion on a flat screen.
Yes, or at least have a simple 3D option like the 2 screens and you can cross your eyes to see 3D.
Zelda's Fox Was that a reference to Nerd3's sims 3 video were he put that at the end?
Brett Gullery
No. He did that?
This remains one of my favourite Nerdcubed videos
I squeled when he went to the coast of Manhattan and the HMS Belfast because I was at those exact points and remember every view, this is a truly brilliant way to use VR
I would buy a headset just for this....
google earth have got Australia wrong
they forgot to map the giant spiders the size of houses
Aww, when Dan found his old view it brought a tear to my eye.
Easily the best Nerd^3 vid ever
