I have a feeling the reason why you were able to do all that stuff with the 747 is because the realism settings were not maxed out. They actually use X-Plane to power real full motion simulators that are used to train real pilots and if I remember correctly, unless specifically set, the realism settings are not set to full realism by default.
The amount of memories this video brings back when i was a kid watching this over and over again.

Though, honestly, flying with the damage model switched on is... Tricky... So easy to rip various bits of the aircraft off...

I can also confirm that yes, you can do it in xplane too.
Just, if you have the options for 'remove surfaces on over-g' turned on, it'll usually result in a wing breaking off. - Although I found out that for the 747 model you don't see this. It looks undamaged, but flies as though it's missing bits.
Whereas with some of the other default aircraft, you can actually see the wing is gone.
I tried to replicate what dan does in the video with the damage options turned on, and it had no visible effect, but checking the systems status window showed I'd ripped off all 4 engines, and the left wing...

There is a setting to make the wings snap off when they flex like that in X-Plane.

Popped up after the vid on the new microsoft flight simulator, I know they cheated by using bing maps and ai to build the cities and towns but its still crazy how far we've come graphically in 6 years

The wing flexibility is actually part of the testing/certification process. For most of modern airliners these wings can flex some 20 to 30 degrees away from neutral position, which is far beyond what they are expected to encounter during normal operations.

Just going to add for people who don't go to the N3 subreddit, the reason the wings of the boing flexed like that was there is a setting in the menu that has to be manually enabled. once enabled it allows parts to come off due to stress.

What I really appreciate about Nerdcubed videos where he does all the stuff that you're 'not supposed to do' in games, he's a very thorough playtester. Someone like him can help tell if a game is broken in places. Now this flight simulator looks and feels realistic enough. I guess those wingtips will really bend that much if you fly like that, which is why real life pilots don't. The passengers certainly won't appreciate it either.

@@oppotato5440 The wings are what's causing the plane to go up, if your climb rate is increasing then the wings are generating more lift than the plane's weight, and therefore will bend slightly upwards. If you suddenly pull back on the stick then the wings are suddenly generating a LOT more lift than the plane's weight and will therefore curve a lot more. Watch some videos of glider aerobatics, you can see it most clearly with those because their wings are so long and flexible

***** Someone in the X-Plane community has fixed this with the B747.I am perfectly aware with the way wings are supposed to flex... I agree with you. But that is a mere visual effect that occurs because of the design of airframe models in X-Plane 10. To animate wingflex at all, I am pretty sure that Laminar Research focused on simulating inertial forces on the ends of the wing. If that is the case, then the inverted wing flex is not a surprise at all!

What he demonstrated there was how not to take off. In fact, that was how to stop very quickly. Also, F22s ARE powered by jet slinkies, you don't really need to see out of the cockpit as long as you have an artificial horizon, he totally overheated the VTOL fans on the harrier, and Cessnas, which are usually held together by duct tape and good intentions don't have airbrakes.

NJ Sullyalex I believe all updates are free. I have steam version so they come automatically for me (which is actually a bad thing because payware aircraft etc... but I believe all the updates are free.
I found out that you can explore the aircraft that you're flying and when you're on the 747 walk to the lower level and open the bathroom door there is someone in there (yes that actually happens)

2. If a 747 could do that, the wings would flex UPWARD and snap off.
The wings are carried by the aircraft on the ground, but in the air, the aircraft is carried by the wings... So the 747 wing flex animation alone is bassackwards...

I'm just saying they got it backwards... and a 747 CAN'T do that to begin with... and I'd have a hard time believing that even a next-gen fighter could recover a dive like that... and have the pilot still be conscious for that matter. ***** Really I dont play any of these 2. DCS and Prepar3d are the only ones that I like, both of which are far superiour than either FSX or Xplane. But judging from how the wings bend in the video, it either needs an update or its just an old game.
DoryCas21 X plane smokes fsx out of the box, in graphics and in the flight model. The x plane default aircraft are decent too, unlike the shitty ones you find in fsx (although that is age related I suppose)

The landing distance on the FSX 747 is extremely unrealistic, try it with a PMDG 747.
