Another thing people never seem to mention about Carlo Anceloti is that he actually listens to players when they say a certain tactic is not working. I have seen Vini come to him and tell him they can’t get the ball to him etc, and he doesn’t get mad at the player he listens and tries to do something about it. So many times where he has done that

The rule states you keep your flag down until the play is over. He raised his flag too early, and the player was not offside. Challenging for the ball does not make you offside. He never touched it. Big mistake from the lineman.

The linesman raises the flag and the ref doesn’t let the play finish.. even if it was offsides, the ref has to let the play roll. That was absolutely the most disgraceful act of referring.
@@jiimmyboi12 Joselu goal happened much faster, ref first instinct was to give offside, even Nuer had the ball on goal kick waiting for VAR if VAR didn’t interfere the goal would have not stood, plus it’s a perfectly legal goal so why disallow it. As for De Light the whistle had already gone before even the ball reaches to him. They should have let the game play but nothing guarantees you that De Light would even get the ball if Madrid players didn’t stop playing

I totally understand being upset about the referee error, but Ale makes a great point. The other effect of the referees' decision is that the Real Madrid players stop playing with the whistle so it becomes very unclear whether Bayern would have scored if Lunin had attempted a save.

It’s not a clear goal. Many Madrid players stopped when they heard the whistle, namely Lunin the goalkeeper. So, yes, the referee made a mistake, but whether it would have been goal or not isn’t as clear.

The ref should have stopped the game minutes before Bayern got that controversial offside. The game went on for something like 5 minutes after he showed 2 fingers to signal 2 minutes arrival time to the players.

With Bellingham making all kinds of runs and Vini swinging in all kinds of crosses and shots, Modric with the layoff, Brahim with the dribbling, Rodrygo with the close quarter control, Valverde with long ranger, Joselu with his number 9 instincts, Carvajal with the crosses.... it's not a single trick then rinse repeat like Man City. Real Madrid is multidimensional in the attack, you can't hold on much longer against such a team unless you waste time effectively.

I'm a high level match playing players out of their position is not wise. You see Madrid missed those sitters in the first half because they don't have a number 9 in the field.

Full credit to Madrid for the comeback. But a spectacular match was ruined at the last second by a terrible breach of offside protocol. Regardless of whether the Bayern player was marginally onsides or offsides, the whole point of the VAR assisted protocol is to let situations like that play out and retroactively determine if there was an offsides or not. That leaves such a bad cloud over an otherwise wonderful match. Absolutely atrocious breach of protocol by the linesman. And to anyone out there trying to downplay the incident, the linesman apologized to Tuchel after the match. Credit to the linesman for taking ownership of his mistake but he 100% messed up big time.

As a Madrid fan, we bossed the whole game and deserved the game, and I'm gutted that the ref made that dumb mistake.
Now everyone is talking about match fixing allegations.
Once the whistle is blown, play is dead. Review not necessary, only restart possible would have been a dead ball restart such as a dropped ball.
Doesn’t matter the play was called finished with the whistle thus the Madrid players in particular the keeper Lunin didn’t react to the shot from De Ligt . Bad referee decision to raise the flag before knowing fully if it was offside but it was raised and therefore stopped the entire play . Rules of the game
