In the 1960s we would drive to the one on Springfield Ave. It was worth the drive! Later we moved to a new house off of South Orange Avenue and would go to the on on Rt. 22 westbound by Bowcraft. An older couple seemed to run the place, and the man was missing a finger. I didn't ask! Some years later I realized that I lived on the street where the owner lived--just a few doors away-- but the iron gates with the letter R on each one was not sending the message--come on in.
The "double sausage" was beyond a doubt the best in my experience. Great memories.

I feasted on these hotdogs growing up in Newark,N.J. where the original store was located. The owner was a cousin of my maternal grandfather. If I remember correctly they expanded to 4 stores one of which was on Rte 22 in Union,N.J.which i believe this one is though I can’t say for sure.Growing up in Newark in the 50’s & 60’s was terrific. In addition to Jimmy Buff’s,there was the Resevoir Tavern which made the best bar pizza and mussels marinara on the west side of Newark and over in the north ward there was Dicky Dee’s hotdogs(similar to Jimmy Buff’s) and Louis & Ting-A-Ling for American hotdogs. Those were the good old days.

I don't think I've ever been so mortified by a food video in my whole life. There is soooo very much wrong with EVERYTHING I'm seeing here. No seasoning on the fries. The massacre of the meats. The terrible condiment to meat to bread ratios. The first bite into one of these will be a mouthful of ketchup or mustard. The lack of using tongs to make picking everything up easier. The complete waste of manpower cutting the potatoes when a simple, potato slicer would do the job. No serrated knife to cut the bread. None of it makes any sense at all. I'm literally sitting here in abject terror of how absolutely horrible all this food is for the human body. I can't imagine how bad one would feel after eating one of these.
I'm also sitting here with 1000% confidence that these are probably one of the BEST tasting things that have ever been created and that they are a culinary MASTERPIECES. I don't know how so much wrong can be so right but here you have it!!! Stomach be damned, I want a dozen of these right now! Cheers!
