As a former military person that moved every 2-3 years for over 20 years... when packing, the final box is your necessities, plus clean sheets for each bed. The final box when moving out, is the first box to open when moving in, boldly marked "OPEN FIRST". The very first thing is to make all your beds, so when you're suddenly beat and tired of unpacking, your bed is ready and waiting! It's also good to do the same with a kitchen box, "open first" that has a plate, bowl, glass, mug, coffee, coffee pot etc for each person... you get the idea! After these two boxes are unpacked, and beds made, welcome to your new place, and start unpacking! Truthfully, my donations went before moving because I did not want to move it or unpack it. This worked for me after many, many moves to practice on!
When me and my son moved. We each had a backpack with clean pjs, clothes for next day, bath towel and shampoo. Besides our open first box. For our first night in our new home.
@@Moogers16 haha I'm old.. back when you had to go to a special store for a back pack LoL for hiking! .. but absolutely love the backpack idea!! Very smart way to go!!
For the person who asked about organisation styles relating to trauma, here is my experience/personal research. A lot of people who are traumatised in childhood tend to grow up to be perfectionists (we might naturally want to be crickets). Shame makes us believe it is our fault and if we are 'good enough' then we wont be bad anymore. We are perfectionists to avoid punishments and stay safe. But as adults we have more 'life stuff' to deal with, all the the trauma we are supressing and the perfectionism is exhausting and unattainable. Which just reinforces the message of shame we have ben telling ourselves. So, if no one told you yet, you get to decide what is enough for you and your home. You are safe now, and you get to explore what is ok for you. It's ok if you don't know what that is yet, when you connect with your values and who you are it will come to you. If you think your style is complete choas, then I would bet that you go from perfectionistic all or nothing cleaning sprees and then long periods of paralysing nothing at all, shaming youself about how useless you are. You aren't useless, it's just you started the race of life with a starting line miles behind everyone else and you are probably judging yourself against someone who wasn't pushed back by evil *holes. With trauma, slow is fast. Set yourself a realistic and managable routine, even if it is to maintain one square patch on a kitchen counter and focus on that one thing. Then when you have mastered that patch, increase the patch a little. That way you can always be winning at life a little bit each day. You got this 💜 (much love from a traumatised recovered hoarder).
I remember my mom teaching me to make my bed once. I was so proud and excited all day. When I went back in my room, she had remade it. I don't know why that affected me so, but it did. The neighbor kids always had chores, I didn't. I would find my things at the neighbor kids house. They didn't want them. I guess it was her way to tidy but it didn't teach me how to do things, it made me weak and discouraged. It has been and continues to be a battle to train myself and fight the fear of not good enough and learning I do have a voice even if it isn't valued. I tend to wait until someone gives me permission to breathe. Enough of my whining. Thank you everyone.❤
I am closing in on 40 and still remember the day I cleaned my bathroom without being asked and wanted to show my mom so she'd be proud of me. Instead I was shown everything I missed or did wrong. I never tried again. I figured if it was going to be ridiculed anyway I'd rather it be over poor effort. I have a child and make sure I show them how happy I am even if it's not done very well. I just say I'm so proud of them for doing it on their own. They'll learn the skills over time. Parents forget how powerful their voice is.
You beautiful soul. I had not consciously connected my own similar experience to this aspect of my inner bully until reading this. Thank you. Know you're not alone and have the rest of your life now to learn to give yourself grace and space. Eventually recognizing and accepting it was not you. You were just a child and deserved kindness and encouragement. I've been learning this too and life has been getting better and brighter and will for you too as you embrace yourself ❤
You are so much “enough” as you are (although even in that word I’m sensing a kind of judgement!) … all is well. ALL the best in your process of knowing what you know ❤ and Being who You Be. 😊❤
@@talanacaine9810I also have a very overcritical mother. They don't realise how much their words can hurt us. As a child I wanted ti help my mother cook. She would give me something to do, like chop a carrot. Always she would criticise what I did - I wasn't chopping the carrot pieces small enough etc. It discouraged me so much and even now as an adult I am always thinking I'm not good enough and trying to be perfect.
It's so, sooo refreshing to learn from someone who isn't naturally organized that it's possible to get better. Marie Kondo seems like a lovely lady but if I compare myself to her I'm setting myself up for failure. What I CAN do is be good enough. Thanks so much Cas!
Whenever I really need motivation to get started I turn to my Clutterbug playlist. I don't even need to be able to hear your words as I move from room to room getting stuff done. Just the sound of your voice with all that energy and empathy keeps me going. Thank you so very much Cas.🎉❤☺️
I want to thank you also for telling us a while ago to embrace "good enough". I found it a little shocking when you said that at first and then realized that sometimes if you just do it good enough you can get on to other things and then things are getting done! I love that! It's my new mantra and as someone who is also ADHD I thought you were brilliant, yet again. ❤
Cas, a few minutes before you said it, I realized that I was equating my work organizational style with my home style. When I first took your quiz I thought I was a bee, but trying to be a bee at home has been mentally exhausting. Now I know I'm an office cricket but an at-home butterfly!😊🥰
My computer has big folders with more folders inside. And more folder inside. And yet more folders inside. I'm an accountant for several companies. So imagine this. One big folder for each company. Inside more folders for cost invoices, sales, expenses, bank, etc. Then inside a folder for each year. Then for each month. Inside it's booked, not booked. I open 1001 folders to save one lousy invoice. But in accounting I need to find it fast and know for sure where it is. So that works for me. But at home? Forget it. Give me a big category and just let me put things away as fast as possible. Maybe I have to search the medicine basket for what I need, but when I'm done it's easy and a no excuse to throw it back on the basket. It's in the basket, I'm done. If I had to find a smaller basket for a very specific medicine... no way. I'd probably leave it out for later. But clothes I have the patience to put away short sleeve white t-shirt with other short sleeve white t-shirts because it's just putting a hanger up. But socks? Long, short, white, black, it's socks it goes all in one place. Who cares? I guess I use different styles in different spaces. When I find something that works, magic, that's what I'm gonna keep.
@@mffmoniz2948 I'm just like you with my computer and email organization, folders inside of folders inside of folders. I worked with a person whose computer I had to sometimes use, and almost every document was saved to her desktop. It was so chaotic! As time goes on I find that what you say is accurate. Not every space warrants the same organizing system. I think I follow all 4 of Cas's systems throughout my house.
As a bee I can confirm what Cas said - it takes a lot of effort to organise our stuff, so we often just leave it …. So true, but when I set up a good organisation system I instantly love it and feel proud for months/years. Eg, since I started folding underwear and organising it in colour/type - I can see exactly which ones I wear the most, which I only wear when I haven’t done laundry and know which I need to get rid of 😂 🐝
Yes! Lol I’ve had an organization scheme for my underwear drawer for years now and it gives a sense of peace having it that way. I have to try to over simplify the common areas though.
....😳I am not the only bee that organizes my underwear (for your same reasons)!?!? ... Any other bees track their daily outfit on an Excel sheet... So you can easily declutter the stuff you legit never wear at the end of the season? Meanwhile, The underneath my stairs is a "garbage sandwich" to quote cas - it is perfection or Armageddon... There is no in-between
This is totally me too 😂 I fold my underwear but organize it by type, like that time of the month vs certain dresses vs it’s the end of the day just throw some on 😂
What a relief to hear you say "don't pull everything out at once". Every time I do that I look at the mess, think oh shit, get overwhelmed & put everything back again!
32:20--"when people struggle to let go, it's a trauma response" and then your further explanation about this issue is the most clear I think I've ever heard! "Any time things have been taken from you, against your will." If you have never lost everything, had zero control over basic necessities, or struggled financially to the point that you had nothing, you really don't understand the odd attachment to "things". So many organizing and decluttering sources don't take some of this into account. And people can go through the same circumstances but have totally different responses to the trauma.
@jodieh4739 I have never suffered a big loss, yet still want to hang on to things. It’s not about someday or scarcity or paid money for it or sentimental or forgot I had it
My husband and I are the cricket and butterfly combo you've mentioned. We often organize with the Bee type products - oeganize in bins (for me) but they're clear (for him). I also love to label everything. This method works for us. It's all about finding the balance.
I love that you tell us we are supposed to throw away photos! I only discovered this a couple of years ago due to desperation. My mother never discarded a single photo in 76 years! Helping my parents move into assisted living made me realize that I CAN throw away photos because I CANNOT move/keep them all. No one can. When I returned home, I weeded through all the boxes of photos of my kids and realized that really only about one in three photos were worthy of keeping.
I went through the same thing!! I had albums upon albums of photos of people I didn’t know. I opened the garbage can, took a deep breath, and started dumping. I don’t regret it one bit.
My Dad is trying to give me old family photos (of people I don’t know) . Meanwhile one of my cousins is really into genealogy. I keep telling him to give them to her. They mean nothing to me.
oh my god, the pep-talk about loving yourself enough to get rid of stuff that isnt worthy of me.. that takes from my happiness, from my peace... an amazing reframe, so inspiring. thank you xox
I've learned from you there's Not just one way to be organized. I now feel successful in my different ways I organize - some detailed, some in bins. Not a failure in my head anymore 🥰
I am so happy you did the style summary at the beginning of this video, because I am helping my sister organize, and I told her to watch your channel. This is such a good introduction.
Thank you for this. I often despair that I will never get my life under control. I have “issues” like ADHD, OCD and other crap that messes me up. But what you say makes so much sense and you are so encouraging that you give me hope that I can dig out of the stuff I have buried myself and my home in. What you said at the end made me cry. I Am worth more than this stuff! My family and I Deserve to live in a pleasant home. I’m going to listen to this on repeat! You are the best!
Have been useing your chanel for a while now to help me declutter , clean and organise, after long term illness (10 yrs bed riden on and off) still cann't do things everyday, even the basics. However I now have a tidy wardrobe, an organised bathroom and my towles are put away and organised. I have to do one spot at a time while I have the energy, but after a year and a half I am now starting to see the benifits. Thank you for your encouragement and company on this journey.
Oh my goodness! I need to watch this video over & over weekly! I have to say you are quite the motivational speaker & I actually paused you a couple times to fill a bag of donations. It really touched me to hear I’m worth more than my stuff (paraphrased). Thank you for that.❤
Thank you. I hit my bedroom closet yesterday and have 6 bags of clothes. Step one. Much more to go. I'm a semi hoarder w some trauma issues that I'm working on healing. Both my parents passed away over the last few years and I've been dealing with 30 years of stuff in a few homes. It's been semi overwhelming at times. I've had to put my own home on hold to tend to them. I'm learning it's a journey not a destination. It takes time. That's ok. Being kind to myself has been quite a challenge. With each step I start to feel better. Your advice has helped me move forward. ❤ I'm excited to see the results and possibilities of new energy coming my way.
A year later...I am watching this video, again....the wisdom just rolls off your tongue. You are ABSOLUTE GENIUS in the area of decluttering. 'Saved your video....GREAT CONTENT!! 😊
First of all, I’m a ladybug. Thank you so much for teaching me to organize! I’m finally organized with my style and I’m happy. I do live with three adhd butterflies. But, I can now help them deal with their things. I’ve had to adjust with their visual stuff. But, everything is working. Thank you again!
Cas, I am so grateful for this understanding of myself and how I organize. People have said to me that I am an organized person and I disagreed with them. What I have come to realize is that I need organization to not feel stressed. One layer, not having to move something to get to what I need. There is a dumpster in my driveway and I feel the biggest sense of relief at the space and breathing room that this will create. I want to see my beautiful things but I need them to not take over our house.
Clear bins work great in our house. Hubby likes to see everything and it has to be easily accesible and I just want things coralled "with their friends" as I like to say. So it's a good compromise. So for ex in the pantry I have my bucket of baking supplies that we reach for (flour, sugar, brown sugar, etc) that anyibe can grab and everything you need is right there and it's clear plastic so you can SEE "who lives there".
I so wish you were around when my kids were little!! All of my life I tried to live like a Cricket because I thought that was the “right” way, and I was frustrated with my house and felt bad about myself for all of those years. Now that I know that I am a ladybug, and that I have a low clutter threshold, I enjoy my home. And when my kids & grandkids come to visit and make a mess, 😀 I can pull it back together in minutes after they leave. Thank you for all you do!!
Your channel ist the best for organizing. Don't get me wrong, Marie Kondo seems like a nice person and her results are a revelation BUT there's no way to tackle declutter her way without professional help! The two gals who organize in rainbows create beautiful pantries BUT it's netflix not reality. So thank you!
I'm a ButterBee :D I like to have some things out that inspire me to do stuff, but never too much at a time. So other stuff i like to store in organizers that i can store away and take out for projects. Also i like to furnish my rooms so that coming in you first look at closed storage and comfy seeting, and open storage in corners where you only see it when you actually spend time in a room. Gonna work on getting better now - need more organizers i can store away and take out well - thanks for the Inspiration 🎉
Excellent video! So much great, functional advice. I love giving yourself permission to be imperfect, if it takes too long to tidy you have too much stuff, working with other bugs, one minute rule, non-negotiables, it’s all so good.
I moved into this house nearly three decades ago. My mother stopped by, impatient that I still had boxes with stuff in them. So she grabbed one and finished unpacking it, calling attention to her deed, thinking she was setting an example that I should (obviously) follow. It was a carton full of many coffee mugs. We were a household of 3 people. We usually stored the extras in the cellar, taking them out as needed - and returning them later. She'd left no shelf space for glasses, plates, bowls, etc. I thanked her, but pointed this out, then re-packed most of the mugs in the carton. She was so mad at me (frustrated) that day. She also criticized that I kept binoculars on a shelf in the kitchen. "That's not where you keep binoculars!" But only the kitchen and bath had windows facing the back field, where we regularly spotted wild animals. Once again, I'd defied her logic - which didn't sit well. She was more intent on enforcing her technique - regardless of its impracticality - than taking a moment to understand the logical method behind my "madness." The box hadn't needed unpacking - it was just waiting to be relocated to storage. Ultimately, she was happy to take the extras to her friend's beach cottage, where there was often a crowd, and rarely enough mugs to go around. The binoculars are still in my kitchen, where they get frequent use - and remind me of Mom ❤, who's been gone almost 21 years.
Thank you again, Cas! Love your videos! Both helpful and enlightening. I am definitely one of the ladybugs with a bee husband - we default to visual, which can stress me a bit sometimes, but as I declutter, the less stuff the less stress. Dishes are a non-negotiable for me, too.
This came across my feed today. I love listening to your ideas! I'm decluttering my house right now with your 30-day Organizing Bootcamp! My kitchen is taking longer than a day. But I heard you say, it's okay. ❤️ I needed to hear that! 😊❤️ Thank you! My kitchen is looking better and better and I already have several boxes of donate stuff. 😁
I really love you, Cas! I am a 🐝 and my husband is a clear 🐞. I am not a real perfectionist but if something is not gonna work for me I don’t do it all, including decluttering and tossing. It’s so hard to get moving. Oh God, someone come and declutter my home!
I'm in the same situation! I'm only now just getting started on my decluttering mission but the all or nothing in everything is absolutely my life. My trick for doing things at work and I'm trying to use it in the house is to make the "all" part smaller and more bite sized so I can get a win. "Declutter the house" is obviously way too big, but for me so is "declutter the bedroom". I need to make it smaller like "declutter the bookshelf" or if it's real bad "declutter the worst shelf", cuz I struggle with the "21 item" rule Cas suggests but if I clear one space I can SEE what I did, even if it's tiny, I have better motivation. At work we have to fill timesheets every day, so each objective is a "Job" (eg: declutter the bedroom) and we need to put the specific tasks under the job (1: remove obvious trash, 2: declutter the bookshelf, 3: declutter the end table, etc) and when we put our time in we say if the task is complete or not. Even if the job isn't done, that task still can be. I'm trying to apply it to home life, I just need to complete one task at one time, not the whole job. Maybe the 21 item rule will work after my big declutter but it'll be a while. 😅
Thank you for your resources! I took your test and finally realized I’m not a cricket ! I’m a lady bug talk about an eye opener! Spouse def a butterfly ado excited to hear this whole video now that I know that my house is driving me crazy and his piles are getting larger and our house is feeling smaller. I love our home but in a place where I’ve lost that love because I feel like I’m suffocating thankful for help!
My kids knew that anytime they felt like they didn’t want something anymore they could just place it on my bed and I would take care of donating or trashing it. It worked great for us!
We use cricket organizing in the frig, freezer, pantry and cupboards. Some ladybug in with baking goods and spices. We use butterfly and ladybug on bathriom shelves. Garage we use bee and ladybug. Hot mess for sure. It works somehow.
Thank you❤❤❤ I have learned so much from you! Not only have I learned to embraze myself as a butterfly in the way of organizing... I have also learned to embraze myself as a butterfly in so many other ways in my life. It shows through everything! Now I finally know who I am and why. Now I have the courage to be true to the butterfly I am🦋❤ I live with a lovely handsome ladybug and we are slowly getting to the kompromises that are needed. Thank you❤❤❤
Loved this so much! I watched this while cleaning & organizing our hall closet. My mom has bags in here from the 90's 😅 Most of this being recycled or throw away and its really helping get rid of my anxiety every time I open this stuffed closet. I'm a dominant cricket with bee tendencies & my mom is a ladybug. Thank you for this video!
Needed to hear this 👏 I like order and everything organised my boyfriend is very laid back and very messy and my adult son has Autism is just as bad 🤦♀️ and to top of it my stepdaughter has took after her dad 🤷♀️ iam basically only tidy person in the house so listening to this has helped loads Thank-you ❤
This was very awesome.. so many relatable comments.. we are a cricket and a butterfly household..happy marriage.. 2 bathrooms and 2 hobby rooms 😂 and compromise in shared spaces.. boxes or bins to store like items and I retidy anything that gets too messy.. If we have guests.. all the stuff on his bathroom counter gets stored away for the day 😄.. I tried for years to force the "put everything away" it just frustrating both of us.. when he looks for something he left out... I let him know it is in its home or in his room.. admittedly he does like things organized (ok I do have his socks and sweaters organized by types and shirts sorted by color 🙃) but he actually enjoys that he can quickly grab what he needs .. my inner cricket is happy and his butterfly sense doesn't have to organize it 😄
@clutterbug Cass- you are simply amazing!! ❤😁 You have a wonderful and soothing voice so aside from getting great advice and tips, your voice is calming to me as well. I know you must help so many people. Thank you!
I’m a recovering perfectionist, but I have come along ways since I raised my 2 kids at the height of my OCD and perfectionism. My husband and I are finally empty nesters , after these last 7 years that I have been full time caregiver for my daddy from age 81-88. Daddy has mixed dementia ( Alzheimer’s & strokes) and has now advanced to where he requires 24 hr care. He is now living in an Alzheimer’s unit in a nursing home 5 minutes from my house. My solution to my husband’s opposite organization style from mine, ever since our children left home, is my own bathroom and bedroom. That way I’m not resentful of his messy bathroom and what used to be our master suite ( clean clothes thrown on a loveseat etc etc). That is what works for us😊 10:44
I learned about fantasy selves from the minimal mom and I started to realize my fantasy self was holding me back. I felt that I have some great qualities that aren't really recognizable so my fantasy self was the person I wanted to be so that others would see how awesome I was. But in the long run I failed at being my fantasy self and didn't embrace the awesomeness of myself and failed that way too. I have since woken up from my fantasy and have started to be kind to who I am and forget if other people see it as long as I'm true to myself.
I'm so glad I listened to your podcast today. I recently moved from a house I lived in for more than 30 years. I am really struggling to unpack. When you said to shop your boxes. That really clicked for me. I have Myastenia Gravis and tire easily so some days I only get one box unpacked.
I'm a cricket and my husband is a drop everything wherever he stopped at first.. not necessarily the door ( butterfly, but he would be insulted as a man to be called butterfly) ... even the basket by the door for his shoes doesn't work 😂. One time we both were looking ALL over the house several times for the tv remote... it was in the pantry when he went to get a snack. I found it because I stopped looking to make dinner 😂.
I think we need an organization style called Dragon. Or maybe we just call it Smaug lol. My mister is a Smaug. He loves his horde and looks lovingly upon the great abundance of the items he collects 😆. I have my own set of problems, to be sure. I just thought it was funny to hear him say "I don't mind seeing my collections. I'm a dragon. I love the horde."
Great video, Cas, thank you ❤. I’m definitely a bee but with massive piles everywhere. For instance, my kitchen counter has a Mount Everest size pile on it which randomly includes two casserole dishes perched on top of my cat’s insulin needle sharps box 🤨. Unfortunately, I have fibromyalgia and migraines so a lot of the time I’m struggling with energy. I hate the mess but never manage to get round to it. Your video was brilliant and really useful 😊
Could you have a friend or younger relative help you declutter or organize 2ce a month or so? Take some of the anxiety away from wishing you could do it alone!😮
From another with fibromyalgia, I’ve slowly removed stuff from my house because I don’t have the energy to clean it. I do clean the kitchen before bed so it’s clean when I get up in the morning. Slow and steady wins
Bee with Ladybug Husband here (He hasn't taken the Test yet, but there is no need for it. I know.) Your cute Categorys help me SO MUCH! We realized we struggle to keep Order in ouer home, even though we both crave it. It was simply unfathomable for me how ouer mess can derail again and again after I set up such nice systems..... which my dear Husband just can't use for the life of his.... At the same Time he was frustrated with me leaving out stuff that needs to be sorted later or I just don't want to put it away, as It has its neat home in the open where I can access it.... This wil help us SO MUCH! Thank you for sharing all this for free!
You have the most practical advice!!!! It’s so great! So helpful. Especially just pulling out a few things instead of making a huge mess, getting overwhelmed before I’m done decluttering, and effectively accomplishing between 0 and -20 things. Before I found your content, I thought I had to Marie Kondo everything. I’m not a Marie Kondo. Im a Bee/Butterfly hybrid (mostly bee).
WOW, that was DEEP..."Do you love yourself Enough to stand up to your stuff?!?" Honestly, that hit me, like Hard, and exactly where it needed to!! I. Fricken. LOVE. this. Woman!!!!
CAS!! Can you do a specific video on "shopping your moving boxes" bc I'd love more tips on how to unpack if...when...I don't declutter before moving. Thanks! ❤❤❤
You wear a lot of cute clothes, but I have to say the outfit in the thumbnail for this video is the absolute most sweet outfit I've ever seen you wear!
Love your motivation soeeches, can hear it tousand Times & it's always effective. Todays New Energy came & I Decluttered & organized my Little "office" Space 🎉 Thank You ❤❤❤
Cas, Many people aren’t familiar with the word “Duo-Tang.” I hadn’t heard the term until a year ago or so, for example. At about 18:00 or so, you might want to add the following to your screen: A Duo-Tang (once a brand) is a name for a type of folder with brass fasteners. You may know it as “a folder with brads.” OR Duo-Tang = a folder with brads
I'm a cricket with ADHD & and a trauma event that makes me a cricket. My husband is a bee with trauma, creating an issue for letting go. I found you about 5 years ago and did your hug you home. Your 4 types helped me understand us. This has helped us have a happier home. The common spaces he relinquished to me for the most part but I have loosed up and then we each have our own space and neither one of us judge the other for our ways. We are at a point where we don't need stuff. So we tell family at holidays no stuff. If you must gift. Donate to our charity's or share. One year we asked for a recipe or two for each family. On birthdays we request audio book they love, which opens us up to new things.. This allows the people in our lives to give but we don't have to worry about the stress of more studf.
Oh that is such a good idea, thanks for that. I've been defaulting to garden plants as gifts but your ideas are great. Im a very cricketty cricket, also with trauma and adhd.
We're gardeners. I think I'm going to ask our family to buy us garden seeds, plants, or money/gift cards for the garden and household repairs. Thanks for the idea!
I do have a specific question about your combination though. I'm a cricket living with a bee as well. We have SO MUCH clutter everywhere and it's all open butterfly-style right now. Super anxiety-making for me. So how did you get through this time in your journey to get to the fun part of organizing??? 😶🌫️
I normally don't have time to listen to videos quite this long but I listened to this one and wow! It was inspiring! You were so on fire! And even though I have been listening to your videos for a couple of years I still found it helpful. I will not skip the long videos in the future!
Thank you for this video….my husband and I struggle constantly about the clutter and messiness of our house to the point that it affects my mental health…it never occurred to me that we were speaking a different organization language. He definitely has a huge (horder-status) problem with letting things go but catering to his organizational needs could help at least give his things a home. He seems to be a butterfly when I tend to be cricket/ladybug.
i am always amazed at how spot on you are...bees dont want to shove things and have it risky being lost...i just finished organizing my nail art dip powders by color and had so much anxiety over which drawer to put certain colors in cuz what if i cant find it when i need it! just knowing i am not alone in this helps tremendously...still not confident in my decision, does coral go in the pink drawer or the orange drawer? i almost left the undecided colors just sitting on top, but i took a break, listened to you for a bit and forced myself to make a decision...so proud...thank you for all that you do, you are truly amazing
I am on the tail end of a whole house decluttering from basically an already organized home. Cannot believe the result....from the garage, kitchen, front room, main bathroom, hallway, laundry room Approximately 40 containers of donations have gone out the door.... and, at least 20 bags of trash. Starting to really feel the fruits of my labors....peace❤...it feels so good. Taking a break from the master closet....I THOUGHT I had my clothes culled down.....but, no don't think that's the case...sooooo As soon as I make a phone call....I will be going thru the hanging necklaces...and, then all the clothes. Yes, I have done this process so many times....and, have never regretted going thru the process....the reward was always WONDERFUL. THIS TIME, I'm changing some things..... 1) Doing the 5 minute pickup every morning and every evening...your tip... WOW....WHAT A DIFFERENCE!....I LOVE THIS TIP.....THANK YOU CASS! As soon as I'm done decluttering the house (finish master closet, do kids' room, front yard, back yard....attic, car) I will begin this process....the very next day.... 2) a "daily five minute decluttering". (I think it was Peter Walsh who recommended this tip...) Cass, I love your videos....so helpful....especially now.... I have fed myself a steady diet of decluttering books and videos while decluttering....and these give me the inspiration I need for this goal: "STREAMLINED and ORGANIZED". ❤ Thanks.
See through bins and baskets absolutely make a difference if you need them. I am never going back to the decorative ones beyond pretty gold metal or whatever. 🦋
“Small apartment” also tells me maybe less money which causes people to cling onto things even more. It may seem backwards but decluttering ends up SAVING MONEY not losing. You become more aware of what you have and what you actually need so you don’t rebuy necessities and don’t buy unnecessary things
Butterfly here - I stopped, years ago, folding bath, hand and kitchen towels. Very liberating! I just throw the few kitchen towels into the designated drawer and the bath towels into the cabinet under one bathroom sink and the hand towels into the cabinet of the other sink of the double vanity. After folding towels for like 30 years I am SO over it so I simply stopped. I also just throw my underwear and socks into the drawer, no folding it. I do fold my other clothes because I hate ironing and as an adult I should not look like a wrinkled mess lol. I do fold the clothes for the other family members.
This was very helpful. I was happy to see I ACTUALLY do a few of them! I have a question tho, when you have something to do or WANT to do, that is time consuming, do you just focus on that only? I’m adhd, do things as they pop into my head, so I then feel overwhelmed thinking I should be doing something else than what I CHOSE to do. Does that make sense?
@clutterbug I’ve watched you for years and this time I heard things I’d never heard before. Thank you for what you do. 💕 ✨You’ll never know how many lives are better lived because of you.✨
I find understanding my energy type (see “Live Your Truth”)extremely helpful, too - regarding organizing styles, clothing selection and more. Great alongside this advice, in my experience 😊
My fiance is a bee and I am a lady bug. We recently moved into a new house. We decided 80% of the house will be clear of clutter so that cleaning and tidying would go much faster. For his peace of mind, his office will be the room where he can have all the things the way he wants it. I never undestood why I do not like things the way I do until I found your channel. Thank you, Clutterbug. You give us all peace of mind.
I just started in my kitchen. Old grungy dish towels used for rags under the sink and more in the garage. Kept a few for floor wipe ups and cleaning. I bet I'm donating about 20+ to a cat shelter after I sanitize them one more time! Then I moved to my dish cabinet and moved heavy casserole dishes down a shelf on a heavy wire rack to reach easier. I was poking around for about 3 hours and will continue another day! Since my tall hubby passed 6 months ago, I am moving things lower, so I can reach them! Already cleared most of my counter of a rarely used Keurig and a hot water pot until winter! Now, for my island catch-all... UGH!
My husband and son are both butterflies. Its absolite choas everywhere in the house. Im going to start labeling and basketing everything. I am a cricket. I fulfill my cricket tendencies in my closet and dresser drawers. With the craft supplies, and my baking/piping supplies to keep mysrlf some what sane.
I think I am a mixture between a cricket and a ladybug but things have to be put away behind clothes doors although the level of detail varies. My husband I think is a butterbee, somewhere between a butterfly and a bee. Desperately trying to find systems that suit both of us.

I live in a studio apartment and am struggling to organize. HELP
Great advice!
It was a huge help when my young son wanted to take a bath before bedtime our first night! So much less stress than digging through our boxes.
You don’t have ADHD, do you?
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment. It's very helpul and appreciated. ❤🌟
@@fabienneroure9995 you are most welcome, glad it helped.
This makes so much sense!!! Thanks for sharing.
Yes!!!! And thank you
You have brought much love to my heart 🧡 Thank you for taking the time to write this beautifully detailed message that i desperately needed to read🙏🏻
I relate so much to this
You beautiful soul.
Agree
Same here🎉❤
I want to thank you also for telling us a while ago to embrace "good enough". I found it a little shocking when you said that at first and then realized that sometimes if you just do it good enough you can get on to other things and then things are getting done! I love that! It's my new mantra and as someone who is also ADHD I thought you were brilliant, yet again. ❤
Yes. I find this phrase helpful - Progress, not Perfect.
I like the saying:
Perfection is temporary, good enough lasts longer"
Blessings, Dot
There is no in-between
Yes! As a Bee, my idea of a self-care afternoon was to color-code all the earrings in my jewelry chest. SO easy to find them now!
@@amybee40 mine are sorted by color too! I've found my people in this comment thread! Ha ha
It’s not about someday or scarcity or paid money for it or sentimental or forgot I had it
Rich people are hoarders too. In fact, the coddled child who lived to be 95 in a hoarded out mansion is an actual stereotype.
@@toomanymarys7355Just because someone's rich doesn't mean they haven't lost something.
Crapalanche is my new favourite not-a-word word 😂
I am so happy you did the style summary at the beginning of this video, because I am helping my sister organize, and I told her to watch your channel. This is such a good introduction.
That was a fantastic live Cas. Well done. You're good! ❤
This is so helpful, I am a definite bee! So many clear containers, color coordination and piles of stuff waiting to be organized.
Thank you for the "GRACE" advice for others in my household.
Extremely helpful hints, especially about organizing with a butterfly in the house. Thank you!
I'm a ButterBee :D
I like to have some things out that inspire me to do stuff, but never too much at a time.
Thank you for helping me see how others in my life and home cope with clutter 😁
I believe this will help me relax and accept all us little bugs 👍
"That's not where you keep binoculars!"
But only the kitchen and bath had windows facing the back field, where we regularly spotted wild animals.
Once again, I'd defied her logic - which didn't sit well.
She was more intent on enforcing her technique - regardless of its impracticality - than taking a moment to understand the logical method behind my "madness."
The box hadn't needed unpacking - it was just waiting to be relocated to storage.
Ultimately, she was happy to take the extras to her friend's beach cottage, where there was often a crowd, and rarely enough mugs to go around.
The binoculars are still in my kitchen, where they get frequent use - and remind me of Mom ❤, who's been gone almost 21 years.
Lovely story, thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you so much for pointing out the difference between organizing and de-cluttering. Big impact on me there! :)
If you don’t already know Dana K White, her channel is great for getting started and for decluttering.
I love your unpacking method & photo sorting method. Thank you.
I am a lady bug and so thankful for you CASS you have helped me get soooooo much out of my home

Haven’t watched yet but have to comment that the “cover” photo of you is amazing! Those colours suit you so well 🔥🔥
I'm so glad I listened to your podcast today.
Thank you Cass. You said so many heartfelt, inspiring, eye opening things.
Enjoyed watching the live. So helpful, thank-you Cass!!❤
Oh yes! Mine too. And mine has PTSD and feels anxious if he can't see his hoard. 😖 Dragonflies maybe? Butterflies on steroids.

Thanks! ❤❤❤
I love that you give people permission to just throw things away.
You wear a lot of cute clothes, but I have to say the outfit in the thumbnail for this video is the absolute most sweet outfit I've ever seen you wear!
Such powerful messages all throughout this video! Thanks Cas!
Love your motivation soeeches, can hear it tousand Times & it's always effective. Todays New Energy came & I Decluttered & organized my Little "office" Space 🎉 Thank You ❤❤❤
Cas,
Many people aren’t familiar with the word “Duo-Tang.” I hadn’t heard the term until a year ago or so, for example.
At about 18:00 or so, you might want to add the following to your screen:
A Duo-Tang (once a brand) is a name for a type of folder with brass fasteners. You may know it as “a folder with brads.”
OR
Duo-Tang = a folder with brads
Sad I missed your Live...grateful for the replay!! ❤ 🐝🦗🐞🦋
Hey 👋 from the UK. So many good things to try and implement. Lots to work on 🤷♀️🤦♀️
i love the photo storage suggestions. and i really did think i couldn't throw away old photos, so thank you!!😂
Thank you so much Cass! Your words are gold! ❤️
Thanks for sharing!
i am always amazed at how spot on you are...bees dont want to shove things and have it risky being lost...i just finished organizing my nail art dip powders by color and had so much anxiety over which drawer to put certain colors in cuz what if i cant find it when i need it! just knowing i am not alone in this helps tremendously...still not confident in my decision, does coral go in the pink drawer or the orange drawer? i almost left the undecided colors just sitting on top, but i took a break, listened to you for a bit and forced myself to make a decision...so proud...thank you for all that you do, you are truly amazing
I'm so confused about the sky moon discussion
i was a kid with TOO much stuff, and it would have really helped if we had the tools to figure out how to let more of it go. great advice.
I am on the tail end of a whole house decluttering from basically an already organized home.
Cannot believe the result....from the garage, kitchen, front room, main bathroom, hallway, laundry room
Approximately 40 containers of donations have gone out the door.... and, at least 20 bags of trash.
Starting to really feel the fruits of my labors....peace❤...it feels so good.
Taking a break from the master closet....I THOUGHT I had my clothes culled down.....but, no don't think that's the case...sooooo
As soon as I make a phone call....I will be going thru the hanging necklaces...and, then all the clothes.
As soon as I'm done decluttering the house (finish master closet, do kids' room, front yard, back yard....attic, car)
I will begin this process....the very next day.... 2) a "daily five minute decluttering".
(I think it was Peter Walsh who recommended this tip...)
Cass, I love your videos....so helpful....especially now....
I have fed myself a steady diet of decluttering books and videos while decluttering....and
these give me the inspiration I need for this goal:
"STREAMLINED and ORGANIZED".
❤ Thanks.
Ugh... the "big loss" trauma from the past hit me right in the feels. Thanks for acknowledging this.
Empowering the kids is #1 thing you can do for them. We have to go through my mom's house after she passed away. 50 years of stuff now
See through bins and baskets absolutely make a difference if you need them.
Would love these videos more often. It was really helpful. Thank you.
UGH!
I have really enjoyed this video! I love the deep dive into organizational types. Also your funny little narratives at the end. 😎
Thank you. Yes I can’t do Marie Kondo method. Too overwhelming. Yr suggestions are good . Love fm Singapore
I think I am a mixture between a cricket and a ladybug but things have to be put away behind clothes doors although the level of detail varies. My husband I think is a butterbee, somewhere between a butterfly and a bee. Desperately trying to find systems that suit both of us.
My Mum calls herself a butterbee too! 😊 Very good name.
