- I have always wanted a steam cleaner or hot water pressure washer. Whatever you call it I just haven’t been able and or willing to spend the thousands they cost. I found this one on marketplace and it was only 45 minutes away.
Nick and I were excited because it looked like it would be an easy cleanup and fix. Wrong, it was a can of worms to say the least. I knew it had been sitting for a long time but with a little tinkering we got the electric motor running as well as the pump.
The tank and the hot water part is like new the paint isn’t even burned off and it works great so I decided to marry my 11hp Honda 4000psi washer and the hot water part together. Now after another day invested I had a badass washer. Super happy and we only paid $300 for it so I’m still in good shape!
Thank you all for following along!

Who else is happier than a pig in shit , Dennis started a youtube channel.
Good to see a father and son in law getting along
The son Dennis always wanted 😂
Came to make similar comment. Nice father-son moment
so nick and alex are married?
I'd watch "Dennis and Nick fix random marketplace junk" every week.
Just two friends having fun doing boy stuff. Brilliant!
When I was a kid the Ramones were such an underground band and I absolutely loved them..fast forward 45 years..still love them! Cool steam cleaner.
Can't believe I watched the whole thing. But I would watch it again. I love fixing shop stuff. #267 thumbs up
Thanks man!
Hey Dennis I am 72 year old plumber and the best thing to clean out the coil is CLR which stands for Calcium Lime and Rust remover.
Under the weather, but laughed our 😂😂 asses off, Great Video, Dennis, you and nick working together, so much fun❕️🤙Bitchin.
See you still have your old truck, will it become a show in the future❔️
So much fun, like any two hot rodders working on anything, "get your finger out it" & "l bet its this" just great fun Dennis & Nick. Thanks. ✌🏻🧡 🇨🇦.
As super talented as Dennis is is anyone else surprised that he hasn't built one these already using a tank less 110 electric water heater or a LP converted gas unit mounted on a pressure washer cart?
You can get a propane tankless that uses a couple D batteries. With that and a gas engine it would very portable
Sure, watching vids about flashy hotrods are great. But I really dig watching a couple gearheads save a vintage piece of equipment from the scrap yard. This reminds me of when I rehabbed a Reddi-heater someone chunked in the dumpster back in the 90's ... just because it made too much noise. The fan housing was bent and rubbed on the blade. I still have it, and it still works just fine. ✌
If you build a sandblaster nozzle on that machine. Hot/steam water and sandblaster is way better than just sand.
And hi from norway😊
Another great video nice change of pace, Nick and you make a good team
Back in 86, I used one like that as a diesel mechanic helper. Washing big rigs.
Since this video I’ve used it a couple times it’s killer.
Seems crazy that you got the piston block off the electric to work. Makes me wonder if someone swapped a wrong rpm motor on it. Works great with the gas engine. The near steam is the ticket. Great video all around gang, Dennis you did great solo
They say you marry your father's type. Pure genius. Thanks, guys. love your clean content. Great job, momma, for filming.
The argument can be made, with all due respect, Alex is carbon copy of Dennis. So the bros aren't the same type but rather a good match. Lol. Nice family.
Thank goodness for this hilarious video, Presidential campaign is just about to drive me nuts, not even a good movie!! 😊
You will love having hot water pressure cleaner because it works so much better. I used to have the exact same pressure washer. They still make them. Pressure zone has it for 3600$
Commenting early,,,,that looks like something a small local airport would have??? Indiana has a few lol...love the channel,,,reminds me as a kid,,hanging out with my Dad and my uncles....70s,,,,love the b roll music 🥁
Dennis. I worked at Waukesha Engines in the test cells for a long time and washing engines with Hot water as opposed to cold water was 10 times better. Cold just will not get the grease and oils off adequately.
Cool video. Love the troubleshooting with Nick
Very educational, I love stuff like this, with no yelling.
The Ramones was a nice touch!!!
Dennis has an amazing mind when it comes to engineering. i swear he could figure out how anything works
Back in the late 70s/early 80s I bought my second 55 Chevy and took the front suspension all apart and it was greasy, dirty, caked on nastyness. I was working in a machine shop at that time that had a steam cleaner and after work one day (or maybe it was at lunch) I got the foreman to show me how to set it up and it cleaned all that gunk off and when it dried it wasn't even oily-feeling. I took it all home and painted it as it was. I wished I could have taken the car there and done the engine compartment.
You know, google can be a friend with stuff like that. A 10 minute search for Super Steam 12000 (or whatever the make and model is) and no guessing. Parts diagrams, electrical diagrams etc.
Dennis: "But where's the fun in THAT?" Right? LOL
Steam cleaning is a game changer, we use it to wash bus/coaches underside. It's dry fast after, and it clears grease even piled up around a king pin etc
Dennis, back in the late 70s the neighbor man had one just about like that. well he took it apart put the tank on one side of his van and ran a belt to the back had a pull start motor on it and started washing cars. then he bought a industrial carpet cleaning wand for it and we started cleaning carpets in houses. and he made a fortune we worked night and day everyday at that time the man paid me 4.00 per hour + my lunch not bad for a 15 year old kid. appreciate the videos thanks dennis!
Not sure who won the lottery in this relationship….. just cool to see everyone happy 👍💪🙏
Just a cool & great deal on your new washer 👍.
Be able to comment on a few ideas.
For the exhaust, stacks like an old tractor?
For the plug in, a retractable cord like on a vacuum?
👌 Good job on it working 👌
Hot water is very good , steam is awesome ( and dangerous). Thanks for sharing.
Hot water is a gamechanger for grease and enginecleaning
After using the hot side water, let the water run through it to get the coils cool, never shut it down hot, , we clean the big white fuels storage tanks
Thanks.
True mechanic right there to Figure out how things work. Motor to engine swap priceless. Oh, and by the way, Dennis I love how you're still rockin the vans. Grew up in SO CAL. Moved along time ago. They say I'm 56 now but I still have a closet shelf full of vans. Love the content 👍🏻🤙🏻
Very cool...I wouldn't expect anything other than success from Dennis...Enjoy that pressure washer!
Great video. Making things work, one piece at a time.
Just couldn't help yourself The DT treatment LOL.
Thanks for this video. It motivated me to work on my Mi-T-M That has been sitting in my shop for the past six years. Turns out it was just plugged up with calcium and the fuel line to the heater was plugged.
Thanks Dennis...im here watching you fix your stuff while my stuff that needs fixing ain't getting fixed 😂
Use to have a diesel burner steam pressure washer at a shop i worked at. Loved it. Was amazing at grease removal on anything. Had to fix a ton of times. But miss having one.
Yeah, that steam cleaner has some years on it. Back around 80 we had one at work it got really hot!! We never had any problems with it except when it started to run out of Kerosene it would start blowing them puffs of smoke out of it. It will be worth putting a little time into it. Great video
my buddy owns a salvage yard and they use a hotzy pressure washer to clean everything they bring truck chassis in with the loader lift the front of truck up and the hotzy strips everything off of the frame and engine and underbody it looks like a new truck underneath when done it even takes rust off they are amazing when they work correctly anyways great detective work guys and recycling parts
I just looked it up and there are posts on this except one on UA-cam. Good luck. Love the way you and Nick communicate and react to each other.
have a hotsy at work...destroys greasy stuff....hot and a mild degreaser works wonders..
Water heater+pressure washer
they make a wand for car washes in northern climates that have a weep hole, keeps water flowing.
@@mayshack yep unless you buy one rated for that temp, this cold water pump he put on is probably going to melt.
my house already has a tank water heater, wall mount pump rated for 150*. Unless you want to keep it mobile, then yeah they make small portable propane tankless water heaters. Either way pump must be rated for the temps.
Man Dennis . Thank you for putting out a great video !! I’m so tired of the election bs . Thanks again!
Could watch this stuff all day dennis making stuff work
You can still get parts and manuals for that they still manufacture them in South Dakota
Good score ⛳
Another good one 👍👍
Yessir two great minds 💯 🏁🏆🔥🇺🇲🦅
I recently learned about PSI and the 8.1 liter well come to find out its all badass stuff made by the hotrod brands we go fast with so you will find that you have fell upon a hell of a hotrodders dream killer parts at a bottom dollar racers budget. Hope they serve you well. And awesome stuff keep it coming.
Tony Angelo just found 2 6.0 PSI engines for $750 for both. He just dropped a cam in one and put it in a vette. I think it made 427hp at the wheels
How about mounting the plug for the heater on the control panel? It will be off the ground and somewhat protected from the spraying water there.
hot water is the way to go. I'm still looking for one cheap like that.
That's a sweet score!
The primary purpose of the water reservoir on the pressure washer is a break tank to seperate the potable water from being directly connected to the high pressure pump which prevents water from being siphoned or pumped back into the potable water supply in the event of a malfunction or interruption in water supply causing backflow /siphon.
Another project that will work like a champ once you get it all dialed in!!
I bought a steam cleaner back when I had two Peterbuilts, it cut my time in half cleaning them and did a better job.
Great find
dennis...you remember smokey unick did an engine with ceramic pistons..I think I read it in mechanix illustrated..maybe 1967 or 68..
Lube it, my friend.
Cool. The last place I worked had one of those.
As a maintenance man at a facility where we have cold water, hot water, snd steam pressure washers, this was an interesting video to watch. Hot water will clean much better than cold. Steam will do better than both. The washer is working as it should. The burner should not run when the trigger is not pulled. If it can run as high as steam, you don't want over about 500 psi. Also no trigger on the gun. Steam is deadly if left to build pressure. Also be mindful of the temp rating on whatever pressure washer hose you are using. Most normal hose is not rated for steam.
CRAZY GOOD DEAL!!!
Fantastic Video, it's like watching a smart but still funny Laurel & Hardy, I was waiting for Denis to say to Nick "When I nod my head you hit it" then cuts to A&E lol 😂🤣🤣😂
Loved this!!
Awesome video nice to see Nick and Dennis working together
My man Nick he all about a facebook marketplace bargain lol if it works chicken dinner
Got that thing hopped up now
The knob is ur unloader valve and it controls the pressure when you let off the trigger it's sort of like the blow off valve on a turbo car it relieves the pressure when your not on the trigger on the wand and keeps the engine from bogging down when ur have the trigger on the wand wide open and it also allows you to adjust the pressure at the wand on the larger pumps so you have more control of how much pressure you have coming out of the wand
McMaster Carr sells a float switch similar to the one you would need to replace that one.
So I am not the only believer in Bleach white is so good as a degreaser
Great deal on cleaner. Great job Dennis!
Awesome video!
I used this same steam cleaner back in the mid to late 80s all the time it was a great machine,,
Turn the old rack in to a small parts washer!
I have a slightly older hot water pressure washer someone gave me.
The water tank is a anti-starvation protection for the water pump. The hose is not enough & it WILL suck it flat. The tank keeps the pump from running dry & damaging it.
The water in the tank gets pretty warm. I used to borrow one from a friend, just like the one I have, by the time it needed a refill of diesel, the water tank was steaming & almost too hot to put your hand in.
Mine has a common wall between the diesel & water which has rusted through. It's too hard to repair, so I have a 5 gallon diesel can & a 7-8 gal water tank I'm going to breed into mine.
I got it right before I got cancer & haven't had a chance to put together the pieces I have.
Haven't used my cold water pressure washer since I got back on my feet, so I'm not missing much, w/ the hotty needing work.
They are exceptionally handy to have around. BE CAREFUL, you cannot be as casual w/ them as you can be w/ a cold washer.
They will kill plants/shrubs in a heartbeat, they're hell on acrylic & PVC, (PVC has very low melting point, soft in mid 90⁰s).
It goes w/o saying, it'll cook human skin in a flash, too.
Good score, you won't regret the $300. Parts are readily available, if you need anything.
The steam cleaner I cleaned motor parts with the water came out of the nozzle all the time and would get super hot and when you squeezed the trigger then the pressure pump kicked in.
15:57 he did it again! Oh wait, oh ok…😁😂
Flush some vinegar through the heater coil to clean it out like a coffee maker.
Those doggies are sitting around not being pet. That's a real waste or perfectly good petting time. I'm willing to take a number. :)
There's check balls underneath those three big nuts on top of that pump valve and I'd say they are rusted in the holes and corroded and stuck and they allow the unit to build pressure when it's running and those ceramic plungers are on the bad side of their life and most likely need to be changed but like I said earlier call American Airless and get a new and improved pump that u won't have to worry about or work on cause once you start working on a power washer pump ull be working on it every time you want to use it and the guy i talked to at American Airless informed me that most residential power washer pumps are only designed to run about 100 hours and then they have catastrophic failures and most pumps on power washers even the high dollar units are not made to work very long before they have a breakdown or have to be rebuilt or simply replaced cause it's cheaper in the long run to just bolt a new pump on a good engine cause the engines all out last the pumps with even the worst maintenance they'll outlive the pump three times over
steam cleaners are great but you have to be carefull you dont cut through hoses and filters if it starts to whistle shut the burner off right away and keep the water flowing the one i used had a deisel heater it put out alot of pressure
Thanks. It’s a scary machine
What's really nice about Hot Water Pressure Washers is that it will clean the Oily Film away that a Cold Water Pressure Washer won't.
You've got a good unit there now
The hot water will clean a lot better on greasy stuff than cold. Used one on the tow trucks all the time
I am going to try my portable propane powered hot water heater inline with garden hose and electric pressure washer. The hot water does make a difference in my limited experience. Great project.
The hot water through your pressure washer will not work for long, not designed for hot water...
@@jeffstevens9849 Thanks, good to know. I don't plan to use hot h2o very often.
That black knob is ur unloader valve it controls the pressure coming out of the wand so ur able to decrease and increase the pressure but u don't want it turned all the way in cause I'm pretty sure it closes the valve off completely and it'll burn ur pump up if you run it like that very long most large size pressure washers have that valve so you can adjust your pressure coming out of the wand
That's so funny I had the exact same steam cleaner sometime in the 80s early 80s I picked up a notch back thought I'd clean out the engine compartment that they took the paint right off the car
It may have a soap siphon too.
Be careful using that wand all the ones I've used had a cage around the metal end to insulate your hands. Great find' Just remember to drain the pump if its going to freeze. Made that mistake once. It hurt.
glad to see at the end a differnt wand with a cage on it. Steam is a huge advantage especially when we woiuld clean greasy engine comparments etc. You're right to covet one for yourself
Interesting video, but it would have been good to know how you got the burner to stay on, what was the problem?
Put in a water bypass to activate the thermocouple that runs into the tank maybe?
I think the chamber with float is for chemicals/soap 🙂
I thought that as well but it had a clinical injection hose. But now that you mention it you can’t spray high pressure chemicals through the injector hose but you could through the tank. I bet you’re right. Thanks.
@@hotrodsbydennistaylor Btw love to watch your channel, got to know you thru Alex s channel , and hoped you start on your own and you did :-)
try running white vinegar through the coils
I will give that a try! Thanks.
Just a suggestion.I wonder if you ran some meretic acid to them.Coils would get rid of the lime and the debris that is accumulated from hard wandering things in it.Just a suggestion , larry here from missourimilo missouri
oh ya ive seen them peel paint off also
It’s to pull suction to start you off
Yep, they only make hot water when its actually flowing. Its a safety thing, it would boil the water and be a bomb in a very short period of time if the burner ran without water flow.
Looks like a gp 3.5 gallon pump replace the brass packings and valves
A gauge looks to go were you put screw
Like an air compressor regulator gauge... The screw you put in Dennis could block the flow
I would turn the engine so the fittings don’t leak on the burner head
Yes sir back in the early seventies I worked for Westinghouse Apparatus Repair (electric motor rebuilding shop) over in Tampa Fl. When we would get a cleanup job on an electric motor we would steam clean the greasy parts with what we called a steam ginny which is a hot water pressure blaster. I am here to tell you the grease did not have a chance. That's going to be a good machine and when you get the clogs out of those coils you will be going to town.🥸👍👍👍👍👍
