This is a great but unfortunate tutorial because the game clearly has a design flaw if we need to strategize around the intended note sweet spot. Not really a phenomenon as you say, more a bug, and one they'll hopefully fix.
Someone should programme a better game that has less adds and allows you to delete or hide songs you don't like whist still keeping the score from the song
The only thing about this is that sometimes (a lot of the time actually) it doesn't register the taps when you tap beneath the hit box. So it lead to many a rage when I was doing really well and then a tap inexplicably didn't register which resulted in losing.
This is true, and a valid point if you drift too low! If you watch in my other videos I typically won't exaggerate below the line as much as I did in the tutorial.

I first noticed this while I was trying to get my first perfect on kill v. Maim where sometimes I didn’t get full points every time for a particular long note. I gave up for a while and then when I tried later “you got the touch” I had literally 1 note that wasn’t a perfect plus, and somehow got below the diamond threshold. I was so frustrated and then looked at a video of someone else getting a perfect on the song (and luckily they showed their fingers) and I noticed they were tapping lower. So when I tried exaggerating how low I tapped it, I got that diamond soooo easy! It was at that point that I was also starting to watch the score and not keep an eye in the area I’m tapping (kind of hurts me more sometimes though) and I noticed that the long notes that usually gave me trouble had one last beat on that long note super late. That being said I made it a habit to always tap much lower for long notes and they almost never give me trouble anymore.

Thanks, glad you found it helpful! With respect to your question, after some testing it appears to still drop the final tick even after shifting mid-hold which is interesting because the game must somehow register a tap dot shift with Hold-Swipe notes!

I don’t play with index fingers, this was recorded as such to get clean camera angles without the phone moving. I am a thumbstyle player if you watch any of my other content 😄

This bug was actually recently fixed, if that happened to you on a deluxe chart it’s your hold-rail-swipe mechanics. You need to do the swipe portion basically late because it’s a tight window and you’re punished for swiping early!
Good question! It's a personal preference, some pro players prefer to play everything just below the line. I tend to play regular notes on the hit box and holds below. It doesn't matter from a technical standpoint where you tap regular notes, so long as you can maintain proper timing.
Do you have to hit all the way down on the screen or do you get the extra points for just hitting below the perfect+ bar line? Because I seem to get missed notes the further down I go on my screen
As long as you start the initial tap below the P+ line you're all set! To your point, if you go way too low you'll start to get out of the hitbox and drop inputs. If you watch along to my videos you'll see I float about 1/4"-1/2" below as the sweet spot.

Ok so I’ve always played this game by tapping below the perfect plus line as it felt better and I could see if I was tapping in time more but only today have I found this an issue with a song I have played getting all perfect plus but at the end not receiving a diamond perfect score. I’m really confused as there is literally nothing I could have done better and I am tapping below the perfect plus line all the time. What’s going on?!
If it’s a deluxe song and you’re missing hold tick points it’s a switch-hold-swipe (where it changes lanes + swipe at the end) mechanic. They’re very unforgiving and the swipe needs to be done almost late to score all the ticks. Tapping below the P+ line is no longer required as it was patched somewhat recently.
So I've tried the screen record and got a worse score than before because the game already has random glitches in it but with screen record it's much much worse. I love the game but I am getting so frustrated because songs I have platinum on I can't get even to platinum on them now.
Yeah, unfortunately some devices can’t handle the multitask of running a screen recorder along side beatstar without causing processor spikes. I’d recommend my basic sync audio tutorial to help you dial in sync!
Would I be considered good? I have 91 songs all diamond all extremes up to gimme chocolate including fast lane but not coc and I have averages above most leaderboard players up before top 10 but am f2p. I also used your videos and it's helping me get more dps and I already have a couple.
It's likely you're scoring 'perfects' instead of 'perfect+' on your initial hold note taps with the change. It definitely takes some getting used to, just keep in mind the timing remains unchanged.

Yep! I always still tap below but not nearly as exaggerated as in the video. NOK for example will typically fail if you tap too far below in the gallop section. I also find that index finger style is better than thumbstyle if holds are in quick succession to score final ticks like in "The Kids are Coming"

I got 2 perfects on the song, but i had a 49507 score So that means that the remaining points must be lost through me not holding the bottom of the perfect plus line?
it should be if you get a perfect score that you automatically get you a diamond... i've played a few games where i will score a perfect and get 5 stars and won't win any diamond...😡🤔
This is only possible, If your Phone is stabalised. But the Intention of the Game is, to Play through the Songs while using your thumbs. So you are able to play wherever you are, and Not only at home where all your gadgets wait. So show me, how you would Play it by only using your thumbs. Guess what, ist doesnt work
Im no super mega hard core gamer for this game but wow thats so freakin dumb, you literally have to be careful about where you tap on the screen, thats just mental. I am just star struck here
Anyone can say what they want, diamond perfects are nothing but complete luck. I have 2 dps and I played it the same as if I played it at the first time. No difference it just based on dumb luck whether you get perfect or perfect+. Whoever is hunting these is quite hilarious to me

Good question! I've tested this and you do NOT get the final tick points. The initial tap dot appears to remain fixed once it's entered.

That’s exactly right! This song famously has huge gaps in scoring due to final tick drops. 2 perfects should be worth ~49,930+
My own problem is the input bug in this game. Its so annoying!
