Hi Audrey! I just discovered your channel and am enjoying watching your videos. This is the recommendations video I’ve been looking for! When it comes to science nonfiction I always gravitate to marine science and oceanography, it’s so fascinating! Thanks for the book recommendations I’m going to check them all out.
I read Voices in the Ocean-fascinating! After seeing your reviews, I’m looking forward to reading her other books. I really enjoy the diversity of books you cover on your channel. Thank you!
I really did not need more books on my TBR right now but I can't resist your nonfiction recommendations! 😅 The Underworld and Shadow Divers are going on the list right now. Great list!
This is such a fun video idea! Some interesting titles on here, I’ve been tempted by the devils teeth a few times. Totally recommend Below the Edge of Darkness as well for deep sea joy 🙂
Shadow Divers was already on my TBR but The Underworld looks great too! I have two on my TBR that might fit. The first is Move Like Water by Hannah Stowe which is part memoir of a marine biologist and part study of 6 animals. The other one is The Soul of the Octopus by Sy Montgomery which focuses on different types of Octopuses. Both are highly rated.
fantastic list. Have you read Into the Planet by Jill Heinerth? I heard about that one on NPR a while back and I've considered reading it. I've not read any of these either though, so I guess I need to decide where to start. To pivot to fiction, Ellen Datlow edited a great horror anthology that dealt with the horrors of the ocean and water in general. It's called The Devil and the Deep. None of them are really about diving, more a range of fears/stories that exist around water and the ocean.
Into the Planet was recommended by another commenter, I picked it up and got a chapter into it but put it down a few years ago, so I want to re-try it after the recommendations! Ooo I will look into The Devil and the Deep also, I don't think I've read any fiction on this subject. I do have one or two thriller books on my TBR that takes place in the deep sea but haven't gotten to them yet
The only book on your list I've read is Shadow Divers. It hit all the right passions for me,.... history, adventure, and a true story. Its been a couple of years or more since I read it, but as I remember some divers list their lives exploring that submarine. On another note, have you read any books on cave diving? If you ever do, there are a couple I can recommend to you.
@@audreyapproved The cave diving book I would recommend to you or anyone else is "Blind Descent: The Quest to Discover the Deepest Place on Earth. By James Tabor. It's an entertaining nonfiction adventure story.
oh wow I've def seen this cover too! I think we actually debated reading this for Georgia for a read-the-world pick (on of the caves I think is there?) but we went with something else that was more focused on Georgian culture. I have added to my TBR!@@franklinrobinson

Ah yeah I saw your recent video mentioned it! I already added it to my TBR!

If you like emotional books, I would highly recommend reading any book on the 52 Hertz whale.
Ohhh I've never heard of that subject - had to look it up! Looks intriguing, thx for the rec!!

Yes! History + adventure is always a great combo. I'd love cave diving recs! I don't think I've read anything on that subject...
Into the Planet by Jill Heinerth (?) is a fantastic cave diving book. She gets trapped in an iceberg at one point. It’s wild!
oh I've definitely seen this cover before!!
