    I personally would have replaced the chip. I understand tight deadlines and he needed it back the next day - and he would have, without sound (just as he brought it to you). I'd have then said once the part arrives, bring it back for a proper repair. However - I was impressed by your repair! No need to mess the customer about any further and the results are the same! yes the resistors were in series

    • @Armagedon698
      @Armagedon698 22 дні тому +4

      What do you mean by "R2 is also bigger"? The measured resistance of R2 is 9.1 kOhm, which matches the recommended value given in the datasheet. It is a voltage divider and the ratio R1/R2 determines the output voltage of this power supply via FB (feedback) pin. Given that R2 is fixed (9.1K), the bigger the R1 the bigger the output voltage.

    • @orion310591RS
      @orion310591RS 22 дні тому +16

      @@Armagedon698 He means that in voltage divider, ratio is important, and he is saying that Sorin is supposed to remove both resistors from circuit and measure them, Sorin was confused after measuring only first one out of circuit.
      What is confusing Sorin here, is that he forgot that he has one probe on ground, and he is not measuring resistance of that resistor only, he is measuring resistance of that resistor plus whole laptop in parallel to that resistor.
      At 18:25 you can see that he measures something at 5.6K Ohms, we dont know what is real R2 value since its never measured out of circuit.
      Sometimes Sorin is so dodgy or lazy it backfires on him, but its his way of fixing stuff. Desoldering both resistors and measuring out of circuit would give him proper ratio in 2 minutes.

    The pin 5 (FB) of power PWM chip APW7301 perhaps should have 1.25V to stop generate pulses. A quick look in the datasheet should confirm what voltage assigned to the pin. Then provide a voltage 5V on output of the coil and check what voltage will be on pin 5. Now you have sufficient information to calculate what supposedly should be the output voltage to supply to audio amplifier.
    5V taken from other chip might be insufficient to provide enouth power to amplifier and perhaps strains other power supply chip.
    But as a quick fix it is a reasonable solution.

  • @vincentvanveen6601

      @adyady5239 22 дні тому +6

      Yes! Even anything you got like 7805 a117 anything but to take from the audio ic power supply... The above does work OK up to the point you will put up too much volume and the amplifier will draw in amps not miliamps and will drop the voltage on the audio ic enough to crash it and disappear from the system until next reboot 😅

    Hello Soren and channel. To fully evaluate this fault, the altered power input, it is very helpful to simply set about designing a board region.
    Several very robust programs support the activity as board component within design layout, the activity to design and fixture chips, capacitors, resistors, mosfet, diodes, ect. Within the program, effortless placement is moved, altered, as to achieve a nice package with the normal end goal set as sales. My task was to effect a car windshield with dim out to the dreadful blue -white halogen intensity as blinding as hours of operator darkness.
    The understanding 1st gen trial, leads to 2nd gen, 3rd gen. Directly relates to various print reads to the modern , mother board complexity. Some models, such as several dell monitor, suffered a central power solder fracture after months of end use.
    Re solder, repaired the fault for a refreshed service time. And I think the interested channel will at once, think of other examples. A common fault to model. Fundamentally, the customer to repair wants a rugged, long service to needed device. And advances a device to request for repair. How the electrons flow is not of interest or comprehend.
    Enter practical, restored to working. Sound is on. Everything works.
    Low cost, expected robust operation for a long life.
    Next example? The modern car parked outside, with a list of electronic modules doomed to fail. Water, vibration, hot cold cycle?
    Get ready to pay for expert service. Will you truly care about 11 volt to 14 volt duty? Drive on. Calibrate wire. Everything is fine because "we have picture". M.

    I think that when the resistor is bad, it increases its resistance, probably that's why you found that resistance, there is a voltage divider if any of the resistors are changed the output voltage is different, remove the resistors from the board and measure and calculate using the formula: VOUT= VIN(R2/(R1 + R2)

Remember that the audio IC must use much less power than the audio amplifier, so most likely the audio IC 5V supply is going to be mad hot while in operation and may die sooner than expected.

    And if client wants better quality, he should suggests a USB sound card (or better yet, BT speakers). Or client could call "in a week" and find out if the part has arrived.
    Remember, the "bottom line" depends on many situations, and here the critical parameter was: have a computer tomorrow, and only then an additional one: have sound would be nice.
    The client received: a diagnosis and a temporary solution.

    IF... you are sure the 5V you are stealing it from is not a "balanced" circuit that drawing from it could crash that and can of worms..., then maybe a little voltage reg tapped from 19V would be the safest and it can safely draw what ever the volume is. I have tons of 5,9 ect v regs for this purpose, not just laptops. So useful when you want to get power to something controlled but NOT sure if the tap is safe to do so. Sorin is VERY experienced and wouldnt do this or show you unless it was safe. The guy knows his stuff when other shops are clueless. He makes stuff work!!!

    Given the time constraints, this is the only possible solution. The thing is whether such solution is viable as a long term fix? Cannot it just ruin the other healthy part the PC? That is probably the question Mr. Soren needs to confirm to his viewers.

    Servus ! Eu i-aș fi recomandat, pentru rapiditate maximă, o placă de sunet USB și boxe externe.
