Ferocious. Seems like the only counters are to either preemptively destroy the launch site, or somehow know in advance when someone's going to launch these and fly a fighter/gunship out to intercept it in transit.
Looks like stone physics got reworked, a quick test shows dropping stones no longer bugged and deals damage as expected. Next up: Boulderstorm Missile (Stones) & Firestorm Missile (Large Warheads)
For the sake of epic-ness and satisfying of all your destructive appetite, im going to build a ludicrously oversized version of this in a few days time.
Lol true I remember playing that game with my friends and than some KI was like "strategic launch detected" and then we all realized no one has build defense missiles and we were like "Oh fuck which one of us will get hit by that thing"
Just a little suggestion, I think that it would be more effective and more devastating if you put small ship warheads on the tips of the "Iron Spikes" If you do make a Mark 2 version of this please make another video.
+Supertech64 Placing warheads would cause defence turrets to shoot at them unfortunately, and likely provide little if any improvement on damage. Might even reduce it. The easily affordable payload is one of the advantages of this thing anyway.
warheads would ruin it? the rods would hit the target, explode and shoot the road back causing minimal damage....meanwhile by themselves they can penetrate quite a few layers of heavy armour
could you make a program for the turret to make the target glass and cockpit blocks via camera identifying the color and moving the current to destroy the block?
I think one good missile that acts like a precision flak can clear up the cluster. It'll be a fun project to test a flak missile with these rods. Also, I think a good aerial recon network can prevent attack like these. It's so fun to imagine!
+Alysius Wee How did you actually guide it? I thought up something similar using spherical trigonometry to plot the course, but can't for the life of me understand how to guide it with PID lol
+Brian Wilson The missile tries to maintain a fixed distance to the center of the planet. It gets that center of planet using natural gravity vectors from 2 different location to calculate intersection. On each point of the "route's circle", the missile will aim at target for yaw and perpendicular to the natural gravity for pitch, using Vector3D.Reject(). Any deviation from cruising height we just offset the pitch. The PID is just for aiming the missile towards the crafted vector above, using gyroscopes. I find it easiest to use and implement, so this is it.
Okay try this out; Have smaller iron rods, and have a rod explosive rod explosive placement. Plus instead of a perfect square, have a star arrangement with small points
My question is can i find the script used for guiding it over the target and for aligning it perpendicular to the target along the gravitation vector? I have been trying to make something of the sort for an orbital drop cannon.
+joule400 Big difference. Must have at least 16 heavy armor in front or rod will just bounce off. True even if u have a rod of same mass (like 100 light armor), it will still bounce off. Physics engine behaviour
And now we just need a laser designator to have a practical means of obtaining the co-ordinates for all these awesome super weapons I'm seeing lately. ^_^; Best method I can think of currently is to tunnel under a base using a hand-drill with your broadcasting off. Though that would be tricky unless there's at least some kind of signal to try and get underneath.
Not Sure How Accurate You Would Have To Be; But Probably Atomized Or Shredded Since It Seems More Like An Intercontinental Ballistic Missile; It Seems Better Suited For Stationary Targets Or Bases, So Im Not Sure But Yeah Probably Shredded To Nothing
Doubtful, as too fast velocities can cause blocks to simply glitch through objects. I've experienced that when crashing a large ship with unlocked speed into a planet, it basically went almost completly through the surface.
Got inspiration after seeing wastedspace use long heavy armor rods for his bomber. Was testing out stones, but the last time i tried, if dropped from 2km it does much more damage, but released from exploded container from the same height it just bounce off.... dunno wats up with that.
+Mining Drones Plus its prettymuch impossible to stop damage from coming in anyway. Warheads could blow up and be made useless if a turret shot it.. but what kind of defense system could hope to stop 20+ rods from impacting the base? Even if they break a block the chunks will still keep falling down.
getting recommended old space engineers vids is a trip in time
Space Engineers looks so much better nowadays
Ferocious. Seems like the only counters are to either preemptively destroy the launch site, or somehow know in advance when someone's going to launch these and fly a fighter/gunship out to intercept it in transit.
This has to be one of the most advanced and deadliest weapon systems ever created in SE.
Great work!

Does it come in red?
Thanks for the workshop link, I've been trying to get my own missile to work for ages, this gave me a lot of insight.
I see you have ... drastically upgraded your original concept design... good job. im thoughly impressed
For the sake of epic-ness and satisfying of all your destructive appetite, im going to build a ludicrously oversized version of this in a few days time.
Very nice scripting and love the separation on the rods. great job!
Made me think of Supreme Commander. "Strategic Launch detected"
Lol true I remember playing that game with my friends and than some KI was like "strategic launch detected" and then we all realized no one has build defense missiles and we were like "Oh fuck which one of us will get hit by that thing"
Love that game
That's brilliant. Imagine shooting 10 of those at 10 second intervals, terrifying.
I was thinking this would be terrifying as a cheap and rapidly deployed missile.

+corgidog quirke shoot the rods backwards*
+Jimmy CC I did meet to throw the idea in about the protection thanks
Or you could just put warheads inside the base :p
If you build mutiple of these platforms and missiles, this would be a terrifying weapon to use against your enemies on any planet.
Really sick dude. Maybe put warheads partially up the rails? That way as they penetrate theirs an explosion as the rail travels down?
Truly scary weapon are you sure you don't work for Lockheed skunkworks or DARPA ?
could you make a program for the turret to make the target glass and cockpit blocks via camera identifying the color and moving the current to destroy the block?
That is SO awesome! Good work!

Idea: replace rods with storage containers, replace warhead with grinder(s). Dump in all 1.5M tons of stone you're stuck with. Make it their problem?
A variant called Boulderstorm does this. Its half way built
weapon of mass destruction!! very nice
That is beautiful
a diabolical weapon indeed.
Love it, you should show a five round attack patterne on the easy start base
Now to await when you or someone else makes a large ship variation of this....
This is amazing.
This is fantastic! Ty
This is terrifying.
And that kids is, why you always build underground.
I would've called it the iron maiden missile, due to it piercing enemy bases (if you don't know what an iron maiden is, google it, it makes sense)
does it make big difference if those rods are light/heavy armor?
+joule400 Heavy would probably do more damage. That said, it's also... heavier.
could it be so effective that it would make sense to put extra resouces tough? you know cost/effectiveness ratio
+joule400 Big difference. Must have at least 16 heavy armor in front or rod will just bounce off. True even if u have a rod of same mass (like 100 light armor), it will still bounce off. Physics engine behaviour
Talk about rod's from god's
no? that's a very different idea
Thats what i was thinking
epic missile tech
i would not use this on anything i hoped to salvage afterword. there is just nothing left after one or two shots.
Strange recommendation yt, but I'll take it
Wish I could find a tutorial on replaceable weapons like this
Very good idea!!! Wow! This is amazing! :)

there is a laser designator in one of his other videos
Dam good spread
now you can just use autopilot for cruise missiles
back then we thought this was devastating,
we were innocent, unknowing of the thing we would all one day fear...
clang.
I have issues making a 9x9 platform, and u can do this!!
its kinda like the rods of god...
god, imagine a small ship getting hit by one of these
Whut small ship
its like a notably oversized arrow going through an apple

may i ask is the projector vanilla or modded
The US had a similar project in mind, but instead of a missile deploying the rods it would be a satellite. They called it the Rods of God lol
I must say. wow!
Press Tab to hide your HUD.
a couple of them could destroy a whole base :D
well played sir :)
Everything is perfect aside from that it needs a better payload.
0:59 good timing lol
HOLY SHIT I WANT SPACE ENGINEERS
Double Fire... one after the other... first one cracks, second one kills
Thats evil. But now i want to see a large ship filled with explosives ... camoflauged as a Metal Planet thingy (Only small one)
+Komentator7090 just build the Star Wars Death Star lol thats more evil!
Sternenruferin Patchouli Sure ... i may just need a automated system (Currently building a Flying City Set)
put warhead
use uranium rods inside then its a nuclear weapon :)
Would make much more sense with unlocked max speed.
Doubtful, as too fast velocities can cause blocks to simply glitch through objects.
I've experienced that when crashing a large ship with unlocked speed into a planet, it basically went almost completly through the surface.
I would launch a shit ton one after another
"It's ODIN! IT'S ODIN!"
Make a misle that you can remotely control
Heh, did not think, simple iron rods do these damage =)
Got inspiration after seeing wastedspace use long heavy armor rods for his bomber. Was testing out stones, but the last time i tried, if dropped from 2km it does much more damage, but released from exploded container from the same height it just bounce off.... dunno wats up with that.

+Twadfire Turrets don't even target those objects usually, only if the owner specifically changed their targeting rules.
I feel like 4 fully charged batteries is over kill
4 batteries will hold the thrusters just right when high in the air, unfortunately. any reduction will cause missile not able to maintain height
makes sense
This is evil, i don't approve this Sir :)
not some thing i want aiming at me but than again who does lol :)
ICKM
Honestly not that good.
This is a very ancient build, in the stone age of PB and way before the physics update.
Don't you mean space engineers? Whats PB?
