- Why are eulogies only for the dying? In this funny, touching talk, Andrea Driessen argues that writing your loved ones a “grace note” - a kind of living eulogy - is a potent tool for connection now that also lessens the pain of grief and regret later. Everyone wants to matter, and Andrea’s wish is that we share what matters most with our loved ones while they’re still alive to hear it.

Andrea is a meeting designer, author, and hospice volunteer. As founder and Chief Boredom Buster at Seattle-based No More Boring Meetings, she teams with companies, nonprofits, and trade associations to secure top-tier speakers, entertainers, and thought leaders, to create fresh meeting formats.
Andrea found her heart’s work at Providence Hospice of Seattle, where she has been volunteering since 2016. Through her interactions with people who are dying-and their loved ones who are living-she has developed a compelling, actionable practice for easing grief and boosting happiness.
She is the author of the international award-winning book, The Non-Obvious Guide to Event Planning: For Kick-Ass Gatherings that Inspire People. A regular contributor to The Meeting Professional magazine, she has also been a Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) “Best-in-Class” speaker.

Honestly, I think we need this. I dont think there is anybody on this planet who doesn't need to hear positive things about themselves more often while they're alive. Way more often. So often it's embarrassing. Can you imagine a world full of people who feel good about themselves? And what a different world that would be?

Excellent Video! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Schallingora Publicity Extracting Scheme (do a search on google)? It is a great one of a kind product for learniing amazing eulogy speeches minus the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy after a lifetime of fighting got cool results with it.
My father is elderly and almost bed ridden in a retirement home. He is still lucid at times but there is no denying it, he is dying and his time is getting closer. Thank you for the gift of your insight. My dad will get a 'grace note" from me before he dies. If I work fast enough. I'm doing it today. Thank you.

YES!!!! This is exactly what I wondered when my mom passed. We need to recognize our loved ones while they are alive!! My mom is would have LOVED her eulogy and I’m often sad she didn’t get to hear it. Thank you!

This Ted Talk reminds me of my mindset after I read the book Tuesday's With Morrie
Morrie held his funeral while he was alive because he wanted to hear the words people had to say about him.
Sadly, my family thought I was crazy I brought this up about having my funeral while I'm still alive..
So I celebrate on my own.
It's nice to embrace death.
And as Prince once said,
"I never celebrate my birthday as people usually do. People celebrate it as another year of life, but I see it as a year closer to death and that makes me happy."
I did this with both of my parents throughout the years before they died. I always wrote letters to them of this nature and no matter what we had been through in life, they knew I loved and appreciated them both. It's something I'm so glad that I did because I had a bond with both my mom and dad that absolutely no one could try and take away from us.
Excellent speech by Andrea! Well Done. For what its worth I think she displays great leadership qualities! This really got my mental wheels turning thinking about the people in my life that deserve a living Eulogy!

Writing as a person who composed a prayer both for, and from my Mum in her last days. Now, having just watched this video, I can only wholeheartedly agree with Andrea. I was also proud to be a friend and pen pal of Leo.
Society in general don’t have heart and compassion, never hold hands, say I love you, they will lose at the end

What is a living eulogy? A living eulogy marks our appreciation or gratitude for someone who has powerful and positively contributed to the quality of our lives. As its title implies, its a form of tribute speech celebrating a living person.
