I'm an INFJ and this is so accurate man! I get obsessed on one thing for some time and there is only that one thing in my mind, reality doesn't exist :D What I noticed is that when someone wants something from me or I just have to do something else when I'm "in trance" then I get angry and it drains my energy because it's hard for me to switch to other things.

As an INTJ, my Ni feels like a black hole, that just sucks in information and data, with no regards to whether the required information is needed or not. It also takes a huge amount of mental energy to arrange the info in itself, so that it can be extracted in future for other applications.

    Batman: obssessed with saving Gotham

Sherlock Holmes BBC: obssessed with being the best of all detectives

Speaking of Sasuke I see many people type him as a ISFP because of the how emotional unstable he got to avenge his clan, I personally type him as a INTJ Because of he uses logical steps to reach his intuition perception.

@@lightninghood7876 I agree with you 100%. Seriously I don't see how Sasuke could be an ISFP. He is extremely logical, goal oriented, focused, cold, harsh and brutal. People easily mistype him to ISFP because they think he have strong Se but everytime he gets stressed he becomes reckless, impulsive and thrill-seeking just like an INTJ does.

Real talk here in Ni obsessions. My struggle is the obsessions are usually personal endeavors not professional ones that have larger long-term payoffs. If I do stumble on a professional obsession it is a race to make progress before a distraction pulls me away or the obstacles of the workplace kill the drive.

INTJ artist here. I use this hyper focus ability to quickly learn new art programs, from teaching myself animation in Adobe After Effects to learning 3D design in Cinema 4D. Some people think I have a "genius" ability, but it's just this ability to become obsessed with something if it'll help me achieve my ultimate goals as an artist. When I'm studying Native American history for my artworks, I also use this ability to absorb lots of information and find ways to connect it all as a visual piece of work. It only rarely comes out in my "just for fun" hobbies, like with tennis and having to learn everything about racquets, strings, tension etc before buying one to occasionally play lol

I agree with you as an INFJ. The obsession is real in to connecting the dots as much as I can. Although sometimes it's no pure logical but it's also connected to the felling state. Even though sometimes I am aware about the logical side the felling state says you need to combine it or is not going to work.

Definitely agree with this, I’m an infj I’ve always become obsessed and then worked on it obsessively until I’ve “mastered” it. I don’t jump around though the way I imagine Ne doms do, I would have ONE interest for x amount of years before I suddenly with no warning feel “done” with it. And then I may never do that interest again.. there is definitely a feeling of emptiness in between these obsessions also.

This was a really great topic. MBTI is one of my obsessions that seems to yield years worth of depth for exploration. It also allows for a certain modularity that is very Ni friendly. For example, you can shirk your Se responsibilities as they manifest in more specific personality traits and instead abstract them into the MBTI functions which are (Ni) placeholders for actual sensory information.
I also notice that I will listen to a single musical artist for months until I feel that I have fully wrapped my mind around their genre/style.

This video is just echoing what I hear in my head from the things I care about that I've been neglecting. It's haunting. Great video. I should sleep so I can actually create stuff this weekend.
Also, that Ni-Ti learning for the sake of understanding/enjoying the process is something I resonate with but is very limited when chronic depression with bouts of destructive Se grip as an escape is factored in.

Very well explained! As an INFJ, when I have a thought or an idea in my head I will research all I can about it. I have instances where I have not slept for nearly 72 hours because I’m so interested in what I’m discovering about a subject. The longest I have gone without sleep is 4 1/2 days, and I woke up at my computer without realizing I was asleep lol. After that nap I went back to the research, and to me that is fun. Learning is fun for me. The way you describe it is spot on. Thank you for this video and explanation 😊

Wish i had more control over my Ni. Or should i say Ne better. I always stray away from main topic and end up with 4 or 5 somewhat unrelated things at the end of the day. Broadens my understanding of the main thing sure but its time consuming and unnecessary most of the time. But then there are moments when months or even years pass since i even dropped that specific interest and things start clicking in my mind how everything is related and patterns begin to emerge. Those moments are better than drugs for sure.

I agree with everything said. I'd just like to point out that INFJs are a bit slower than INTJs when learning (or obsessing over) new subjects not because "they want to appreciate the Ti aspect of the subject they are approaching/learning" but instead because they have to have complete understanding of one thing before moving on to the next thing. Logic can't be outsourced by an INFJ because of blindspot Te, so whereas thinkers might prefer either Ti or Te, INFJ has no choice but to use Ti. The wording "they want to appreciate the Ti aspect" makes it sound like the INFJ has a choice...

As an intj , I think my ni obsession is more into psychology and typology , i sometimes even binge watch psychology series and never realize how much time have gone doing it , I can go for hours continually studying psychology and I never feel time , it’s not only this tho I find myself binge watching a lot of content that interests me which comes also to workout and nutritions within the food , since I knew I’m more of the type that is prone to neglect self care and may not focus on the sensory world I started building up habits and watching content about it .

INFJ here. A few things that I wanted to comment on after watching your video:
-I think that one of the things that spurs on the obsessiveness is that although I am learning many concrete things within my obsession of the moment, what I am *really* going after is something nebulous and abstract beyond the concrete, and as you can’t immediately grasp it, it’s incredibly tantalizing.
-I think one of the reasons why Ni types follow unusual learning structures is that because they are going after *their* personal insight from intuition, it sometimes feels like you need to take your own path to get there. I love understanding human beings through studying history, but I am less interested in the what than the why. So in order to better understand the mind behind the actions within a certain period, I started by studying separately each aspect of daily life within a period to get a better feel for what it was like to live within their skin on a daily basis. Once I completed this it was amazing how much richer and nuanced my understanding of what led into significant events became. Actually, this leads into my final thought . . .
-Even if you initially obsessively study one thing at a time, very often the connections between them do very definitely appear at a later time, especially if there is any common thread that might possibly yield that at a later point. In fact, often it feels like Ni is nudging me towards studying these ancillary obsessions, as in the beginning I honestly don’t have a genuine understanding of the connections, or even have enough of an understanding to make the correct choices in how to go about studying them, and in what order. I think it’s particularly addictive when they genuinely gel later on that leads to the obsessiveness becoming a genuine habit. I love the quote passed down from my maternal grandfather who was a prolific orthopedic surgeon, professor and inventor; “the goal of learning is to need fewer and fewer trees to hang your knowledge from.”

Aha! So helpful in understanding my film community ☺ I've been so surprised as a writer to discover almost every director I know is an introvert-- the opposite of my expectations. Obviously many writers are, but since directors must work with a large team of people, this was a surprise. But of course they're Nis! A film requires years (sometimes 2, sometimes 10) of obsessive, single-minded focus to complete. Writer/producers like myself can bounce between many projects in the same time it takes them to get through one. Unwittingly as an ENFP, I've stumbled into my perfect role in the career field; there are so many of us doing the same. And we love our INTJ and INFJ (and doubtless other Ni) directors 💜😏 who are willing to be alone in a cutting room for months after the shoot (the part they hate and we love).

I'm pretty sure I'm an Ne type, but I still think I can have super intense and laser focused interests. Even though they're super laser focused and intense, I notice they can be very different to each other and often super random. I don't tend to feel a need to mix them together and I like to preserve them as they are. Another thing I notice is that they often don't do a great job of integrating with the rest of my life. I guess I'd be more "successful" if they did, but I have this strong resistance.
If you look at the big picture of my life, my interests do seem very random and impulsive. A lot of time it can also be hard to know the timeframe. A lot of my "impulsive interests" have been around for over a decade. I think it's often harder to find "the story" behind Ne-led interests, so they seem more impulsive to other people. They often are, but I think functions like Si can help ground the obsessions.
I engage in my interests to sort of lose myself and become one with the interest. At the same time I don't like it when other people make my intense interests part of my whole personality. They're often random and make no sense for who I supposedly am as a person. I find my interests often involve learning for the sake of learning or creating for the sake of creating. So they're not the most goal oriented.

    Yes this is absolutely true!
I’m an INFJ and I do this all the time.
It’s especially weird when the new obsession begins right before I have a work project or something because I just can’t get myself out of it!
Like I had this huge research to write and I had 4 weeks to do it, I spent more than 3 weeks lost in fantasy land cause I just created a new story and it was so good! I wrote the paper in 4 days. Of course the whole period I was stressing out but I just couldn’t stop! Even when I turned music on to distract myself, I ended up creating music videos related to the story instead lol.
I know a lot will say this is procrastination and they relate. But I honestly was afraid of myself because I was just too focused on my story and I couldn’t and didn’t want to leave it even when I had a huge responsibility and the guilt was too bad, my brain was just so excited and it wouldn’t do anything but focus on the story I wanted to write!

This was very interesting. It can be frustrating to feel unable to burn off mental energy... Ultimately I hope to use everything I learn (obsess over) in my overall perception of life, within work, and in relationships. I remix, create, and fashion ideas based off of my surroundings and known information, but I find that I go into very sporadic bursts lf session about a singular thing, only to drop ot a couple of months down the line for a new thing. Obsession is not the same in term of sensory and intuitive. Sensors seem to live off their 5 senses and instinct so it’s really hard to access something deeper in them unless they practice their spirituality daily basis. Their obsession leads them to addiction physically and psychologically. Wayne dyer, who reached Ni hidden at his unconscious mind looks like ESFP ; he is an exceptional case among sensors. I think that his career itself helps him navigate his inner world daily basis so he finally reached his Ni that’s almost impossible. However, I never have seen any Ni in intuitive types fall into addiction even though it causes the tendency of perfectionism and bad habits without recognition. Ni in intuitive types seems to be in tune with their depth of inside ( mind and soul).
Our environment doesn’t help sensors navigate their inside since they are comfortable with 5 senses and instinct ignited enviroment.
Conceptual meaning could be changed in intuitive or sensory.
Words need to evaluate itself depending on
    That’s my point :)
Ps; humans are an instrument to perceive through 5 senses and intellect from instinct to intuition
    I want to say
Intuitive especially in INxx types process 5 senses beneath at subconscious state in term of Si or unconscious state simultaneously in the mind and soul at conscious state and vice versa for sensors.
It may be an indicator of a variety of stages of human evolution itself???
Technology seems to take away what true humans mean.
We’r like cyborg since we perceive through the screen or programmed from massive external stimuli. Now it’s almost impossible to get away.😑
    I guess
    I don’t know any more....

Religion or culture actually confined human nature or instinct to be under control. It can seen in lots of cultures and religions worldwide ( philosophers and religion leaders were respected and people followed them) Learning about the world history is super important in order to understand better. Capitalism and materialism or business let people free for marketing. Abram Lincoln repealed the slavery system in order to increase human consumption abilities for business rather than humanity purpose. His intention might have both but humans are always so good at abuse. Humans are extremely destructive unbelievably :((((((
Sensory is admired and intuitive is ridiculed; it should be opposite for better humanity but……….

I would like to ask fellow Ni-doms something:
If, after diving into something obsessively and taking in as much new information as you can and your brain becomes overloaded and even starts malfunctioning but you still can't find an answer to your question, do you take a break then? do you stop researching and let your Ni deal with the information you took in whether consciously or subconsciously, knowing and hoping that you'll have an epiphany eventually?

    • @Alex-up9dj

INTJ here. It's really easy for me to become obsessed with something, especially if it blows my mind. Generally I'll try to take as much information in as possible in the shortest amount of time to get to a conclusion or an answer as quickly as I can. I'll keep digging in until I reach answer, it is really hard for me to let go. I spent my entire winter break obsessing over chess after I watched The Queen's gambit. I was never really interested in the game before until I watched this show. I would play chess days and nights, first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. I would watch videos, read books, practice for hours and learn strategies. I would even bring a little chess board with me when I was out with friends, just in case someone would want to play, or just to play by myself when nobody would be focused on me. It took one of my friend to tell me how improper it was for me to actually realize that it wasn't something healthy.
As for research, if I can't find an answer no matter how deeply I research, I will momentarily stop researching for a little while; generally after realizing that I forgot to eat, drink and that I basically stayed in bed in my pajama the entire day, doing nothing else but researching. I will let Ni work in the background a little bit to put two and two together.
Generally, the obsession tends to fade away after several days or weeks, even if I still haven't reached a valid conclusion. I never really let it go but I learn to live with the current uncertainty. Some things can't be rushed because of how complex they are and if it takes time to obtain a valid answer then so be it (as much as I hate it). Ni is constantly processing things in the background, and it might just take one missing piece to complete the puzzle. So as for myself, the epiphany might sometimes be something I have to rely on if I can't dedicate more time or energy to research.

@@tavrine9729 I can relate so much to this dream. I consider eating and sleeping as a waste of time. I hate cooking with all my might, so I try to make it as efficient and quick as possible while still getting all the nutrients I need. So I always end up making very simple meals. I couldn't care any less what it looks like, as long as it is rich in nutrients and doesn't taste too bad. As for sleep, my sleep schedule can hardly be called a schedule anymore. I hate the idea of having to sleep so I generally decide to go to bed only when I can't take it anymore. I'm aware this can be very detrimental so I've been trying to regulate it a bit better.
I'm French, no one around me spoke english either. I mostly learned by myself, mainly by reading so I understand your struggle. What I did to reach fluency was to talk to myself and write comments on what I was reading. It could be a personal opinion, what I found interesting, my thoughts on some concepts etc... but everything in my target language. Those techniques were very useful to make it easier to think in the language. The most important thing is to feel comfortable using the language, whether you make mistakes or not doesn't really matter at the beginning. You'll slowly but surely learn to correct yourself as you expose yourself to the correct patterns. Now I'm aware not everybody reads, but I consider reading a fairly cheap and effective way to entertain yourself and learn new things while progressing in your target language. I did the same for Spanish, and I'm currently using this method for Italian and Korean as well.
Now of course living abroad would be the most effective thing to do, but in the case it is not currently possible, there are still ways you can improve :). I'm currently living abroad for my studies, but I don't know how to talk to people and I hate small talk. So ironically, I used my method more. If none of this is helpful, then the internet is still this marvelous tool to talk to people from all around the globe ;)

Hey there, check my video "Should we view Personality Typology as a Science"
I cover my perspectives there. Essentially though, I don't believe they are "real", I believe what Jung was doing was drawing a map over cognition to help us better explore it as opposed to strictly defining the cognition in and of itself. This would be a difference of perspective in terms of the school of psychology. Much of psychodyanmic psychology is focused on depth of mind and non-concrete variables. For example,in psychology Erik Eriksons psychosocial stages aren't a "fact" or "science" but they are a helpful general trend noticed cross culture.
Modern psychology attempts to be a hard science and I personally don't like this approach except in the field of statistical analysis.
To give an example, Big 5 is scientific but it isn't very useful for the average person. It's useful for researchers and maybe clinicians, but it doesn't really "propose" anything, it just measures.

This video is the seal on your self-mistype, you are talking about not just Ni but Ti as well. I think you are _NiTi INFJ_ and you are deluding yourself and misguiding your viewers by not reconsidering your type.
Perhaps it's humiliating and you'd probably lose a portion of your viewers, but in the eyes of many others you'd come out as honest and confident instead. Not to mention all the other big names in YT typology who are mistyped epicly.

    • @AsuraPsych

While I don't follow subtype theory ( I have a video on the topic) I would far more relate to something akin to an NiFi INTJ. I can't say anyone whos known me for a decent amount of time could say they see Ti or Fe in me, and I dont see those functions in myself at all.
I think subtype theory is flawed either way and is the reason half the community thinks Jung is an NiTi INFJ despite that he had incredibly detailed Ti and no traces of top two Fe in his stack. It leads to an ignorance of important aspects of a type that are generally very present in the personality.
I'm open to the idea of being an INFJ, but most people say ENTJ because they see too much Te in my videos lol. I think its neither but if someone could show me convincing evidence besides "He talks about this stuff which is what x function usually likes/does" I would be interested in seeing it. To me, the "title" of INTJ doesn't mean a ton and I think it would be interesting to be mistyped. I just haven't seen a real case for it.

@@AsuraPsych You have every right to demand proof for such claims except that, as a fellow Ni-dom, I don't master those all that well (at all), which includes giving precise examples for what I mean to convey. If you will, there are general trends that, for starters, pretty much exclude Te-doms and -auxes from in-depth, longterm typology, imo. The only Te-users who get so invested and interested in typology are NFPs, as far as my observations go (and some of them mistype as INFJs, ironically).
Another thing is visual reading, which you obviously don't specialise in, which indicates you are using Ti, most of the time (to the point of Ti-dom or -aux seeming like a valid option). Similarly, your way of interacting with the viewers and your guests/live chat pals is Fe. I have a number of Te-doms in the immediate and extended family and they do _not_ interact the careful, modest and other-oriented way you do (even if your Fe is less developed than your Ti).
Subtypes are not a theory for me, I started out observing them irl, in real people around me, first, then putting the patterns together in theory. You don't have to believe any theory, just observe real people like Jung did.
Carl Jung seems like an Ti and Si user, perhaps NTP, but that's an impression so far, not sth I looked too deeply into.

    • @AsuraPsych
      @AsuraPsych  3 роки тому +1

@@timefortee I would actually ascribe vultology/visual reading to SeTi as it is an attempt to systematize and understand what Ni intuitively does. I very much visually read people, I just don't consider it enough evidence on its own to come to a definitive conclusion. I don't specialize in visual typing as a model of interpretation because from a scientific perspective its very hard to validate and I think it stems far more from the intuitive understanding.
I think its interesting you said that "If you will, there are general trends that, for starters, pretty much exclude Te-doms and -auxes from in-depth, longterm typology, imo." - This is something I tend to agree with. The reason I made my channel is because channels like Michael Pierce were too long form and in depth and I wanted to convey ideas to people as quickly as simply as possible. You'll notice that until recently, for a few years, all of my content was under 10-15 minutes.
One thing to remember is that INFJs tend to struggle to articulate ideas in the T realm without extreme consideration which leads to the long form explanations - there is a respect for the Ti. This is why they are great at the NiFe passing of wisdom by word of mouth and are far more comfortable in emotional social expression in doing so. When it comes to ideas though, they struggle the same as STPs, because both Ni and Ti together leads to a complex and highly subjective understanding of complex topics - just as NTJs tend to struggle with emotional or value based expressions for the same reason.
I would agree with the Te dom thing, I have a few ENTJs in my family - I don't relate to them in terms of direct force to the same degree, but I absolutely put forth that force when I need to. I am careful and others focused in communication but it was a skill I learned through my psych degree and multiple classes on interpersonal communication skills. I would disagree on my communication style being Fe oriented. When I am others focused its usually purpose or goal driven. Either that or its a 1 to 1 connection and in such cases I don't want others to see that communication style.

@@AsuraPsych Aren't you contradicting yourself by saying that visual typing is both a Se/Ti approach AND hard to prove scientifically since it's based on intuition? I personally agree more with the latter, at least in my case as a NiFe. But since it is, as you stated, so far pretty near to unprovable by objective means it relies on the person doing the typing as to what exactly they are able to detect, and then put a (either partially or totally correct or incorrect) Ti label on. All in all, it depends on the skills and competence (incl. the lack of ego-involvement) of the person doing the typing. I wish there was a perfectly "clean", clear, precise and highly reliable method to do so, but right now we gotta do what we can with the tools that we do have.
You are doing Fe without even realising it just by referencing "other people" and their opinions of your usage of Te, actual Te users don't give people that much credit unless it's about sth they want to get, make or accomplish.
Your ability to remain levelheaded and civil without jumping into aggressive mode with biting remarks as high Te-users tend to do, as well as a respectful back and forth while giving at least seeming consideration to the other's pov to test the logic of their arguments in a detached way is also Ti, not Te.
And lastly, you have the energy or aura of someone full of Ti. OK I'm done rambling. If one day you realise you mistyped yourself, at least you cannot say nobody pointed to it before.
P.S.: I think Michael Pierce, Scott Morgan, Harry the Cognitive guy, Pucokie, Binyamin mic person and Ren Contini (said so himself) are NiTi as well. It appears that, among the INFJ, it is the NiTi who specialise in typology on YT or elsewhere on the internet, especially logically deconstructing the model and building their Ti theories into it.
NTPs are the only other types I have been able to detect who do that with typology, and they are extremely prolific (most of online typology people seem to be ENTPs) LOL
(NFPs do not seem to do that even though they seem to be the third most represented category. Confirming it is the combo Ti + iNtuition that propels the deep theorising).

    • @AsuraPsych

@@timefortee What I mean by the Se/Ti is that Ni doms, especially NTJs, dont tend to need/want a categorized system for vultology whereas with Se/Ti they can point to a chart or reference and say "this is the data so therefor x function/type."
Vultology is much like the Objective personality system, an ST approach, in that it works through concrete variables to come to a conclusion. The intuitive type just says/thinks "This is likely based on what I am perceiving" and feels no need to reference the hard data. The theory drives the result as opposed to the data fed into the theory.
Se/Ti is trying to turn the intuition into something it can agree with/understand essentially. This of course doesn't mean only Se/Ti people are interested in vultology, I just think these are the most common functions associated with it.
Te references others just as much as Fe. The difference is they externally reference information as opposed to values or social guidelines. Watch my interview with Madshot the ENTJ - ENTJs reference others a lot because Te is comparative in nature.
As I spoke about in my livestream today there is a huge misconception in that many think INTJs are just socially introverted ENTJs - essentially T doms, they over value the T. The patience of Ni and perception is also just as present in the INTJ as the INFJ. An INTJ and an INFJ are more similar than different according to Jung, and I agree.
I won't push any further since iI don't want to argue after you've said you are done, and I will note your opinion, but I do disagree based on my understandings of the functions.
